Ok, I don't like to b* and complain, but I will NOT be happy if they try replacing Chris on this tour... I don't want to hear Sheryl, Miley, or anyone else try to cover this Warrior Queen of music!!! I am not having it. I said to my friend, "I will tell Mick, when I meet him, 'Iwant my money back...' I will not pay nearly 2,000 bucks to hear someone try to do her music. Lindsey? Fine. Stevie? Maybe, but NO ONE ELSE! I would rather her John McVie do songbird than hear an outsider do any of Christine's songs." I mean that. If I had my choice and they were FORCING me to hear someone do her songs I would nominate one woman: Sharon Celani. This woman knows the music, IS VERY CAPABLE, and is the closest thing they have to someone deserving the chance to do it... That is only my opinion...

I couldn't agree more with you. I think Lori Perry would be a good option too. But nobody else.
ohhh Christine, we miss you so much. I miss her not only as herself, but also as the buffer between lindsey and stevie.

Could not agree more. Somehow Christine just brought a mellow, detached loveliness which cancelled out all the angst and self-involvement of those two.

As for her songs on this tour: if it's not SN or LB singing them, I should imagine a lot of people will be rather peeved. It's not fair to ask people to pay all that money to hear a backing singer - however loyal, however talented - to sing one of those classics herself.

I hope. Everyone, HOPE WITH ME, lol.... Seriously, someone said that Miley Cyrus was replacing her and it just set me off, not matter how ridiculous the rumor was. I was like, NO WAY!!! I don't know if it's just a mood I am in, but I would seriously ask for my money back. No way would I even begin to play with that.

Oh- and Lori would be cool too. I agree, no one wants to hear the back up singer, but if they put Sharon Celani out front with LB on WORLD TURNING (add some maracas) the crowd would go nuts!!! Stevie would lose it! They would rock it.

I have already read in one or two interviews a few months back that they would be showcasing the backup singers (Sharon and Jana...dont think Lori) in some of the songs so they could get some of the harmonies back... They ARENT replacing anyone!

I agree she is irreplaceable and I'll be upset and dissapointed if I see a new lead singer. But, why r we still talking about this? I thought that rumour was denied and discarded. I Didn't hear again about the band considering another girl in the band.

Hey! What a good idea. I would *love* to hear John McVie sing "Songbird." He'd probably give it an earnest, gritty, Willy Nelson-style delivery ... not the overly smooth delivery, with all the edges gone, that all the ladies mentioned in this thread would probably use.

It would be an entirely different song, and you know what? It might be really good.

At least it would show the band were thinking "outside the box"!

Unfortunately it's true. At least as of right now. But they are Fleetwood Mac, so things could change in an instant. BTW, if you'd have heard the recording of Miley doing "SONGBIRD" I bet you (and everyone else) would change your mind. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like her kiddie music. Stay tuned, I heard there is an update on the Fleetwood Mac/Cyrus tour.

I agree that NOBODY can replace her, not vocally nor with the class and tact she brought.

the expression ~dont know what you got till it's gone~ fits so well here. She stayed out of the limelight and seemed "wishy washy" yet she was a very key element to the Mac. I miss her very much!

I can't believe Lindsey agrees to go with Cyrus
For me this is pain!!
I have enough with listening my 13 year old sister play Hannah Montana and Hillary Duff (we have a musical battle here at home...I play FM and she plays that kind of music...so in the corridor both sounds mix...it's war!!!!).
I don't want my dear music get perverted!!!! Ohh Stevie, oohh Lindsey!!! please don't!!!!
Christine you see!!! you must come back!!! if she lived near me I would go to her town and put placards on the walls saying: chris we love you!! please come back!!! :D

I agree with ya 100% i do think fleetwood mac should not perform christine mcvies songs either unless she is in the band stevie and lindsey should just do there own songs and leave at that. i do wish she would rejoin again it was so glad to got to see them all on the dance tour that was priceless had front row seats right in front of christine mcvie on opening night in hartford it was awesome:blob2::blob1::wavey::nod:

If there has to be a replacement, better it's someone who is a name artist in their own right and has their own style. Imagine Annie Lennox standing in, that would be fantastic. Sheryl Crow? Not bad, and clearly SC would be up for it. No name backing singer? Even if they do, technically, a better job, not so good.

They can sing whatever Christine songs they like - except Songbird. If they attempted to do that the pain would be unimaginable and (not that it would matter a jot to them) I certainly wouldn't be paying out my hard earned cash.

Second, you cannot replace Christine. It can't be done, ever. And the thought of Sheryl Crowe even attempting to fill her boots made me twinge a few months ago when I found out. But I'm sure I would have ahd the same reaction with anyone that was suggested.

As much as Christine is actually probably my favourite member of the band (or was, as it were.), Stevie and Lindsey have plenty to keep us entertained with!!!!

Well, Annie is a respected artist and has her own identity. So I couldn't see her "filling in" for someone. But I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying that playing with FM would be "slumming it".

How about Carole King join Fleetwood Mac? She ain't doing much, right?

She plays piano in a McVieish way (check out her lightweight blues intro to "Smackwater Jack")
She sings in a McVieish way (reedy alto with minimal ornamentation)
She writes classic pop songs
She has a legacy & an audience
She has the critical stature to play with the Mac (nobody would say she doesn't measure up)
She's about their age.

True, she isn't a cutting-edge, push-the-envelope, "relevant" rock artiste, but then neither are they. Would she be compatible with Buckingham's more avant-garde leanings in the studio? Maybe not, but no less so than Nicks herself is.

Imagine a tour -- imagine a stage -- with Nicks & King harmonizing on a Buckingham song (or Buckingham & King harmonizing on a Nicks song).

I saw Lennox with Sting. She opened, but then he came out and did a song in her set and she returned at the end of his (much like Stevie and Don did). It was really spectacular and I think she and Lindsey could kill together. But she and Stevie would also be great on Here Comes the Rain Again. I'd love the pairing. But I don't think it would be good for her to play an entire set of songs with them. Actually, I could have taken Sheryl doing her own set and then joining FM for a song or two. I just didn't want her sitting in on all the songs. Michele

Good call. I've had that thought once or twice, but she's got such a laundry list of classics that I'd almost hate to see it happen. I really don't want to deal with that "I didn't pay $20 to see Fleetwood Mac play somebody else's songs" logic again, like when Dave Mason was in the band. (I had fun, and thought the songs fit in well, but it was annoying to hear those drunk idiots bitch about it nonetheless.) Still, Mick and John would totally kick ass on on I Feel The Earth Move.

I think CK would be a great choice. But I'd want to check out her recent writing (if any). CK had some classics in the 70s, and "It's too late" and "I feel the earth move" would fit right in. But I think it would be a mistake to include someone whose writing is past its best. Not that I'm saying that CK is, just that I don't know.

If CMcV is to be replaced, then I think it would be better done by releasing an album with new songs first, so that the new artist isn't just filling in, but has some FM songs of her own. And the CMcV songs to be performed could be spread around the singing members, so that the new members isn't "just" a replacement.

The more I think about it, I really wouldn't want CK to join Fleetwood Mac altogether, just co-headline a tour with the band, like the Billy Joel-Elton John tours. CK wouldn't become a member of the band, per se.

I think it would be odd to have a singer so established and iconic in her own right as Carole King join a band like Fleetwood Mac. I think if they do try and replace Christine it would be better to be get someone less well known, as they have in the past, whose sound can be adapted to the band rather than vice versa.

I think if they do try and replace Christine it would be better to be get someone less well known, as they have in the past, whose sound can be adapted to the band rather than vice versa.I agree with that in principle, but I feel that it would have been important -- that whole idea of molding a newer talent -- twenty or so years ago, not now. The band seems to me today to be more suitable for more of a melding of the talents of yesteryear. I don't see them providing anything more in the way of that alchemy with which they used to make stars out of struggling nobodys. It just doesn't seem to me like the kind of band they are anymore. I see them now as gathering older legacies & creating mature (I hate that word), craft-based performances (& perhaps studio music) that appeal to the various categories of baby boomers.

I don't think the band's sound is as overpowering as it used to be, as filled with idiosyncratic & immediately identifiable personality. You used to be able to recognize the Mac from just a bar or two. Now you can't necessarily identify a Mac "sound" from several bars. That's why I see someone like Carole King fitting in a lot more seamlessly than she would have been able to, say, twenty years ago (for "Tango," for example).

I'm not interested in hearing anyone sing Christine's songs except for Christine. I like that they gave her a nod with Don't Stop on the Say You Will tour. That was palatable for the fact that Lindsey sings half of it.

Stevie and Lindsey have a vast catalog of songs they could unleash.

They didn't feel the need to replace Christine on the last tour. Why is this tour any different?

Because if they are promoting this as the "greatest hits" tour, they need someone to sing a few of Christine's songs, because you can't have FM's greatest hits without Chris's songs.

And "Unleashed: The Greatest Hits, Except the Ones that Christine Did (and the ones that Peter did, but we don't have to mention those)" won't fit on the ticket.

Supposedly, they're doing "Oh Well" this tour. But, if this is really their "swan song" tour, I think they should be mandated to play at least one song by every songwriter who has been in the band (even if it involves having other ex-members make cameo appearances...like Rick Vito & Billy Burnette to do more Peter Green & Jeremy Spencer tunes, (in addition to their own) if they don't get Peter & Jeremy themselves to make an appearance or 20). It won't kill Bucking-shorts to do ONE friggin Bob Welch song a night (Hypnotized) the nights that Bob himself can't make it. And, they set a precedence between 1975-77 doing a few Danny Kirwan songs (Station Man, Sunny Side Of Heaven, Tell Me All The Things You Do), so we KNOW they know the songs.

I like the idea of a "retrospective" tour. How about if they do one song from each Fleetwood Mac album? The Penguin Discography says they have 26 "official" albums (some of which are compilations). One song from each of those would make a good length for a show and would allow them to effortlessly pick songs from each songwriter the band has had. (Except they can skip the Daves, Walker and Mason).

I think this would be a heck of a lot more interesting than the warmed-over Lindsey and Stevie stuff they're actually gonna do. It might actually inspire me to buy a ticket to the show!

Etta James

I'm pretty sure a lot of people would object to her inclusion, but in addition to At Last, she could also perform her other hit I'd Rather Go Blind in a pre-recorded video duet with Christine Perfect. So, we'd be killing 2 birds with one stone.

Etta James is a silly inclusion. She neither knows nor cares who Buckingham & Nicks are. Besides, I think she's in a wheelchair (when I saw her at the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1998, she was). I betcha she's not exactly up for a 120-stop world tour.

Steve, you are being goofy!

Several Macsters could perform the show in a wheelchair.

You know, Regis and Kelly had her on the show once to sing at a wedding not too long ago. I don't think she was in a wheelchair then. Plus, she's been in the press recently, insulted that she wasn't asked to sing at the inauguration. So, I'm pretty sure she'd feel like not being asked to perform with FM was a slap in the face.

Why they don't ask Etta to join is a mystery to us all!

Nina Simone can still sing better than Lindsey and Stevie...

I miss Christine too but I do think they could get someone who could perform her songs and come off as credible.

My thought (and vote if I were to be given one, which I know is never going to happen) is that they could ask Lola Thomas, who fronted John's "Gotta Band" a few years back. She's got an outstanding voice, bluesy, a slight touch raspy and very sexy, she's good looking and has worked with John before. They could throw in a song or two by her or just have her do Christine's stuff with FM.

I honestly don't like the idea of getting the long-time back up singers to do some of this material. It's not a Stevie solo tour. It's a FM tour. They can sing all they like when on tour with her. Other than that they can do what they're hired for and sing back up. Full Stop.

If this really is the "final chapter" for FM in the B/N era, or for FM period, then they should do a representative sampling of the band's songs from the Peter Green era on through to "Say You Will". It's only fair. If you are really going to "Unleash" this band on their "last hurrah", then they should "unleash" some of the songs that are part of the FM legend, and (sorry to burst any bubbles here) those don't all come from the B/N era of the band, and include just a couple more than "Oh Well".

No offense meant or intended, but there seems to be a need for a reality check here. Christine is not coming back to the band, her hits should be done, especially if this is the last tour, either Lindsey or Stevie or another artist (not a backup singer) should do those songs, and they should do a couple of songs at least that come from eras other than Buckingham/Nicks. Maybe I'm biased, overly opinionated, or who knows what, but that's what I think, for what it's worth.

Or "Sands of Time."

In a "perfect" world, (my dream), Mick would extend the offer to all FM members. All would accept, and perform in the spirit of what the Mac once meant to them. It would be dedicated "with love and respect to the memory of Judy Wong", with the final show in San Francisco. Dave Walker could even open with "How ya doin' San Francisco?". The guitar 'duels' between Green, Spencer, Kirwan, Welch, Weston, Buckingham, Mason, Burnette, and Vito would be killer. After the last cheers fade away, and the band is backstage, Christine walks out. She sits down at the piano. As the last "like never before" ends "Songbird", Mick hugs Bob Welch, and Linds & Stevie share a farewell kiss. What do you think, Ledgies? The ultimate final concert? I know, I know. But, what dreams:nod:! Best always, Madelow.

This is not even close to a perfect world. I remember Chili posting something like this a few years ago, part of a dream team. Mick wouldn't want to share the profits, Christine isn't coming back, it would take a lot of work, money (to even get them all together for just practice) and co-operation to get them all together.

I don't believe that just stocking a stage with a ****load of musicians will necessarily result in a great concert. I tend not to really like those "all-star jams" anyway. Sometimes it works & sometimes it's just a lot of traffic onstage.

I agree... I like to hear each individual onstage. Otherwise, why are they up there?

My dream show is

Christine, Lindsey, Mick, John
or
Christine, Bob, Mick, John

My dream show would be mostly Christine and Stevie (in that order!), with Lindsey doing a few of his songs here and there.... (And of course Mick and John too!) Is that asking too much.... ;)

Sigh.... I'm sorry to say I'm not planning on seeing any of the "Unleashed" shows. Fleetwood Mac just is not Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie. And they're definitely not worth paying the big $$, anyway. Just my opinion....

It would be cool to see Stevie and Christine as a duo... piano and acoustic guitar and percussion...

But that's not a "duo." Maybe it's a vocal duo, but there are two other musicians on stage playing the guitar and the percussion ... or are you just hiring nameless session musicians who won't even be in the light?

MY dream show would be Christine and Bob. Just the two of them on stage. Acoustic. Piano and guitar. It would work ... plenty of rockers perform just by themselves with guitar and call it "acoustic rock." (Roger McGuinn, Graham Parker, Steve Forbert for example.)

As for the big extravaganza with the entire band, it simply wouldn't work to have a zillion guitarists on stage together. But if they took turns, that would work. Mick and John are on stage for the entire concert, of course. Peter and Jeremy come out and do three songs. Then Jeremy sits down and Peter and Danny do two numbers. Then Jeremy comes back and he and Danny do two numbers. Then Jeremy leaves and Chris and Bob come on stage. Danny, Chris and Bob together do three songs. Danny leaves, Bob Weston comes on, that team does three numbers. (I guess you have to let Dave Walker come and do one song ... ugh.) Then Dave and the Bobs go off and on come Lindsey and Stevie. With Chris they get to do six songs. Then a revolving door effect takes place where Lindsey, Stevie and Chris all leave for a song or two and then come back, while Rick, Billy, Bekka and Dave Mason each get to do one song each. (Did I miss anybody? LOL)

Then the whole gang comes on stage together for the grand encore, consisting of two songs, "Oh Well" and "The Chain."

That reminds me of a concert I hypothesised about 12-15 years ago (back when Christine was still a member, and the Peter Green Splinter Group was still an active entity)

Only You Know & I Know

(joined by Rick Vito, Bob WESTON, & Lindsey)
All Along The Watchtower

(EVERYBODY comes out on the stage...Christine starts playing the piano with a waltz beat...)

All Over Again

(a special arrangement...with a chorus of background vocals that seem to go on forever...."Doooo It, Allll Ovvvvvver Again" building in intensity, sutble yet intricate guitar-army bits by Lindsey, the two Bobs, Rick, Peter, Nigel, Dave Mason, & slide parts by Jeremy, Danny & Billy strum Everly Bros type jumbo acoustic guitars...the crescendo ends suddenly, with Christine playing solo and singing, 'I'd do it all over again'...then launching all by herself into..)

Songbird

(while all the folks on stage sway, arms around each other, the crowd as a whole whip out their Bic Lighters and sway with the band)

(at song's end, not a dry eye in the house, either in the seats or on stage....group bows & waves, Stevie, Bekka & Chris collect bouquets & stuffed animals from the front of the stage, the guys shake hands and wave...takes about 15 minutes for everyone to leave the stage. Houselights go up, original recording of Oh Well, Part 2 blasts over PA...the crowd buzzes as they leave the venue in an orderly fashion)

I love this idea, except for the Bob Brunning review and book idea. The man is pathetic as a writer!! I read his book, and it was like reading "War and Peace" backward in the original Russian!!! It was just dreadful! I think the man is a leach! He played on what, one? FM album at the very beginning and did a few gigs until John got his act together and joined up? Brunning's been trying to make money off FM ever since. It's sad in my opinion.
