Hey guys. I was a ledge addict. Now recovered after a 12 step program called "College and the career". Well I am going to see Fleetwood Mac in Chicago and was wondering what ever happened to the cyber friends I made on here 10+ years ago when I first got the internet. There was a group of "kids" around my age that I am looking to reconnect with.We posted all the time and spent HOURS in the Talk to Me Chat Room. Oh, how I loved the "lag test" messages when it crapped out. 1997 seems like yesterday, but technology has come SO far. The "ledge wars" of 2000 also kind of turned me off to the site, the "Black Ledge" and the name calling got out of hand. I noticed I am a "jr ledgie" on here. Too bad they can not retroactively count all the postings i made in those years. I would totally be addict level. Even after 8 years off!

1. Scott Boucher : The only other "boy" my age on here at that point. A year or two behing me in high school. We had a lot in common. should be about mid-twenties now, lived in New Hampshire or Vermont, chatted in the old OLD PERL Talk To Me Chat Room till midnight. ON SCHOOL NIGHTS! lol

2. Erica P Muzryn? : Also from the chat. I think her screen name on Erica17 or Seventeen at times. Lived near me in Connecticut, I think in Nagatuck or Saugatuck? Went with me to opening night of the Enchanted tour, FRONT ROW CENTER!. We saw Stevie's boobs during Edge of 17! Left after high school and went into the armed forces, Navy? Have not heard from her since.

3. "Pearl" : Friend of Erica. also used to chat in the TTMCR

4. Rhiannon78: Or possibly "Sarah78" I cant remember. Ok there are prolly 100 Rhiannons on here these days, but she was one of the first and I am pretty sure about the "78". Always had the biggest collection of ancient by todays standards Real Audio bootlegs and videos. I THINK she also is the one that gave me a copy of TRIAD, which I in turn passed on to another ledgie.

And last but not least.

5. "LauraTN" : Lived in TN, met another ledgie and moved to a dairy cow farm with him, got married to him in the smokie mountains. Named several heifers after Stevie songs. awww!!

Long ago and long forgotten by most.

Nice to see you back here! :wavey:

OMG what were the ledge wars about? or best not brought up...?

Prolly not important, BUT it taught me a valuable lesson about not taking anything on the Internet seriously at all and learning to just, CHILLAX, click EXIT and do something actually important whenever someone started posting negative stuff or sending me mean email. Something that might even apply today since it looks like Johnny Stew is still having problems with that. Anyhow I guess you can say I "Got a life" and gave up on the internet at that point and started making real friends since my other "LEdge friends" moved on as well and I was growing up from a teenager to a college kid and then out of college and into other things. Plus I started competativly rowing and didnt have time to spend 4 hours a night chatting about what color clothes make Stevie look the thinnest and if Lindsey or Tom Petty or Don were the love of her life or what the meaning of Sara is. That kept me up MANY a late night debating with other ledgies. LOL!!!!

If i recall, someone created a clone of the ledge, christened it the Black Ledge, and a dozen or so people proceeded to talk about other ledgies and the owners of this website and post what might be considered hersery about Stevie by some of your standards. Somehow the link to the site got out there and became public knowledge and it hurt a lot of innocent people's feelings. People started posting responses on this ledge and flame wars commenced. There were attacks from both sides. Suicide bombers, kamikaze attacks, death threats, you name it. At one point the real Ledge was taken down totally while things cooled off. Both sides were to blame I think. Just a lot of hurt feelings and pettiness. This was right before the new format of the site and updated web boards where people could be better tracked and IP addresses blocked and so forth. I think I posted like 10 times after that and then decided I was in a different place in my life and moved on. I made some great friends on here though. Got me thru my early days on the internet and protected me from cyberstalkers and perverts. Of course I dont think cyberpredation had been invented in 97. I think To Catch a Predator didn't start up till mid 2000's. Anyhow, all you might learn something from this, maybe not. Just dont take things on here personal. Its not worth losing sleep over and you dont have to read anything people post. Its not real life. Its just for fun. So go out there, meet real people, make friends on here on the side, and talk about Fleetwood Mac when you have time and be nice.

Hi, Anthony!

I miss LauraTN.

Hmm. your name looks familiar. I might remember you too.

Laura and I used to trade bootlegs, ON TAPE. OMG. How 90's! I think I still have them somewhere in a box in my basement. Long ago downloaded in MP3 form. Laura was so nice. I hope she had lots of babies and lived happily ever after with her cows. She is the only person I could say "don't have a cow" and really mean it! I think I also bought her a copy of Buckingham Nicks at a record store though she had already got one by the time I found it. SO I kept it!

I'm Villavic, the peruvian ledgie. I'm still here since the early days of the Penguin.

Yes I miss some old ledgies, including BN who I was lucky to meet in San Francisco 1998 (he gave me a nice tour in Sausalito and we took pictures of the Record Plant, where Rumours was recorded)

And I miss the old Ledgie appereance, where all replies appeared in one (long)page. That made possible to start some games like singing and continue postign the lyrics. Unfortunately the ledgies population was too big for that software, the server collapsed several times. The current one is stronger, but some games are still forbidden

I was a lurker during that era, but didn't actually join up with the Ledge until 2001 at "Johnny Stew"s urging (because of stuff like the Black Ledge incident, I really didn't care to add my commentary amidst all the petty infighting lol). I guess everyone does eventually get lives and move away from their online ones (I know I certainly have). I do miss the knowledge and insight of many of the older Ledgies though. Things which were utterly commonplace knowledge about the band in that group of people are mysteries to this latest crop of folks. For instance I can explain until I'm blue in the face that the "Thrown Down Single Version" was actually not a single version at all, not a Fleetwood Mac song at all, but one of Stevie's pre Trouble In Shangri La noodlings. This latest crop of people seem to be fans since Say You Will... I've been a fan since before the Time album... so they've got NO idea what I'm talking about when I bring up stuff pre 2003 lol. But I'm sure somebody like ChiliD could say the same thing about me. I guess "it reinforces my faith in cycles."

I was here in 2000 and even seem remember you from reading, Anthony. You won't remember me, because I just couldn't log into the Ledge then with my computer, who was an Ancient Queen then like I'm today, as a fran since 1979.

I was here as well, but I don't expect anyone to really remember me. I don't often post on any boards. My name was "X" back then (how original). Then, somebody else stole that name and I became "First X". How funny, good old late 90s!

The last time I heard from Laura, she had one child. A baby boy, if I recall. Cute as a button. But, she could have a whole clan by now. This was about five years ago, I think.
Whatever she's doing, I bet she's sending BIG ASS hugs and kisses!

For the record, I was on here in that era, too. About 59 times a day, on average. I've slowed down a lot!
And I have about a carton of those tapes, too. Ledgies were extraordinarily generous, I have to say. And, then you sort of received these lovely things and passed them on. Those were the days. But, stuff happens and all that. Welcome back, Anthony.

OMFG!!!! Big ass hugs and kisses! I remember that! It was the signature on all her emails and what she said when she said goodbye. Awww. Sniff.

I remember you too BN. assuming you are the same BN from way back when.

Also, I think I was AnthonyCT waaaaay back in 97. I moved to MI in 98

Well, I wasn't a member back in 'those' days....didn't join til '05 ....just wanted to say your stories are interesting. I was on the 'Net' starting around '01....but so much has changed in all of that time hasn't it. I've been a fan since like '88 of Stevie/Fmac...so I recall the tale end of 'Rumours' fanzines and the '90's version called Silver Springs...Belle Fluer/Mirror, Mirror...etc. There were so many fanzines in the 80-90's sometimes I miss that time. When my fandom was 'new' and fresh and I didn't know all that I know or probably 'more' than I care to know now. So I'm a fan of way before the SYW era....times have changed & the fandom isn't there much anymore. Tickets are outragous now. Even though I've went to see Stevie solo since '94/98/01/05/07/08....I don't think so anymore & Mac '90/97/03....I guess the live thrill for me is kinda gone. The same setlist bothers me alot. I know to some it isn't a big deal but when you paying alot of $$ for tickets and you don't get something special in the music....its just not there for me......it seems they (the artist) is only going through the motions and not cause they really want to. Its sad. As much as the Net has helped us in many many was.....I do agree that meeting people in a safe place....instead of just online.....its more personable. It can be fun but Stevie/Mac isn't everything really. Enjoy it but have other interests too. Life goes on......changes happen to us all.....I miss alot of my 'old' pen pal days too. Cheryl/Rose/Tammy/others I'm sure ....I still have all of my cassette tape of demos/interviews as well.....It was so awesome to recieve them to. I still miss those snail mail days. So I know you don't know me from that time.....sounds like I missed a good time too. Well up to the bad part anyway....sounds like another 'board' I know of that had a 'bad' time as well.....Anyway, life goes on and ya its not worth taking all of this too seriously really......life is too short for us all......Enjoy yourself and make the most of it ok......hope you don't mind my imput.....Thanks......:wavey::D

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

La La La La La La
La La La La La La
La La La La La La La La La La

Then, the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If, by chance, I'd see you in the tavern,
We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Hi all- Hi Anthony!

Hi also old Ledgies I remember- Villavic, ChiliD, Livia and David :-) (hope I didn't forget anyone)

I was an original Ledgie from back then too. I even moderated the Lyric Interp board which is now gone (boy did I have a LOT of time on my hands back then!). I remember it was so fun- I too loved how the posts were back then were you could see everything. I remember staying up all night and laughing at some of the things we would post and we would all post like crazy within seconds of things posted until the list would run off the page. We had a HUGE list of why Lindsey was hot....I had a copy of it for years and would post it every now and then and we'd all post things like crazy all day and night. (I am shocked I never got in trouble at work...)

ChiliD was my first Ledgie "friend" who taught me about the band- esp the old FM and answered a lot of my questions in the beginning.

I remember LauraTN as well and Rhiannon- I also have a ton of those audio tapes- does anyone have the old Ledgie tape we made? I can't think of the name of it but we all choose songs and then I made the master and sent it around and all that? I bet I have it somewhere. I should find it and see what it was called. I can't even listen to audio tapes anymore- nothing to listen to them on, sad huh?

I wonder where a lot of the old people went - Ava, Janet (I think she's still around a little?) Phil. I still talk to Justine by email sometimes. Am forgetting a lot of people am sure.

Yes, the Black Ledge was the time when I didn't post anymore. It just wasn't fun at that point but it's all behind us. Weird this was 11 years ago and here we are with another tour.

I don't post much anymore, just don't have time but I do check in usually when something "new" is going on - tour, CD, etc. I still love FM and always will but just have more going on in my life- but it was a fun time for sure!

Nice to see you Anthony and the other old Ledgies-
Lauren

Yeah I think my company could track me so I got more careful. Hope you like your new company - and congrats on getting an FM ticket this tour!

The tape was Crystal Visions, I believe.
Travis and George put it all together and even had lovely cover art for it.
It was on blue tape, which makes it easier to find in that box o'tapes.

Yes! I had totally forgotten about that. I know I have that cassette somewhere! Travis still posts from time to time- I wonder where George is.

The Ledge unequivocally meant a great deal to me back then. To think about when I first started posting (fall '97) and where I am now, and who I had met on the board along the way... I know I come across as jaded and crotchety in some posts, but I wouldn't be here if Fleetwood Mac didn't mean a great deal to me- even if its not quite on the same exact level as back then. Where DID the time go?

(PS- last I heard, LauraTN was living somewhere in the Dakotas. and thanks, AnthonyMI, for starting this thread!)

Ledgacy.
Yes! I think you did it before I came on the board, Lauren. When it was just one board. I came in early '98, I believe. Anyway, you sent me a copy after it had already been distributed. I think, anyway. I mean, I know I have it, but the timeline may be off.

I think that was the first time I heard some of those songs, actually. That's how much of a newbie I was. And, now, I literally have hundreds of recordings and many I haven't listened to at all (shame on me!)

I actually met very nice people here. Literally and cyber-ly.

100% ditto. I'm forever indebted to blackcat (who may still be around here somewhere :) ), Torri (who I noticed here very recently), and others too numerous to mention (but all worthy of appreciation).

You wouldn't remember me - I didn't join 'til 2001. However, I'd lurked since 1999. I didn't join because I was intimidated by the seemingly vast knowledge of Ledgies, and was afraid of embarrassing myself by my ignorance. I was also nervous about the old tree-structure... it was hard to follow. Some interesting fanfic, though.

My, how things have changed!

I was around back then, used to post mainly on alt.music.fleetwoodmac (or whatever it was called) but lurked around on here. Can't remember what my screen name was might have actually been chriski or chriskisn or something? Don't think I really posted much though as I spent more time in the newsgroup.

I used to do a site called The Great Fleetwood Mac Links Page, and still remember that Stevie Nicks ate baby seals (given that I started that rumour with fake trolling - ah those were the days).

Then I met my girlfriend (now my wife) and she wouldn't have stayed my girlfriend for long if I didn't get off the computer. Only came back to the FM community last year after so long away.

I remember something about eating seals. Actually, what I think about now whenever someone talks about breast implants is the story about how Stevie keeps her old boobs in her freezer next to her frozen peas. MAHAHAHA. That story used to entertain us for hours!

Ah, I remembered his name. It was Jim.

Long before the LauraTN/Jim romance, my beautiful wife Susan & I met here (well, on the old format) Ledge...in fact, Marty & Lis used our penguin wedding invitation as the backdrop for the old Penguin opening page.

also anyone know what happened to Vianna? Sadly, she passed last summer...OMG- I had no idea...that's so sad. Oh, crap, that IS really sad. I remember sending Vianna a copy of Mick's The Visitor on cassette cuz she didn't have a CD player yet.

And, Barbara H, too...we used to debate the merits of Eric Clapton's Pilgrim album.

And, btw...hi, Lauren!! Long time no hear from!!

Also what about Gareth & his wife (forgot her name), plus the Denisons, plus Phil & Stephanie. They got married?

No, Phil & Stephanie broke up long ago. Phil's moved on met a wonderful lady and got married just about a year ago.

Gareth just kind of fell off the map...he was one of the dreaded "Black Ledge"-ers (as was/am I and a few others still around here)...wasn't that the BL people were evil, just a different clique than others; nobody really took the "high road", everybody just stopped getting along...(all over that Vox Magazine article about Stevie and the 4 abortions)...we've all grown up since then. No sense in dredging up past indescretions and opening old, long-healed wounds. As Paul McCartney said a while back, "Let there be Peace In The Neighborhood".

OH...and what about the crew who all piled in my old Dodge Caravan to see Stevie on her Enchanted tour at the old Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre? (Rhapsody? SilverSpgs? I know Kathy from Hawaii has posted on the rare occason) Most of those folks have seemed to have vanished off Fleetwood Mac cyberspace, as well.

Nobody except David and Tiffany (EnchantedSLN...whatever happened to her...she was great) would know who I am...but i've been a lurker since right after the dance tour and right before the enchanted tour.

I can remember the old old ledge and I remember all the chaos that broke out with the black ledge etc etc. I was in 7th grade!!!!

I started checking these boards right before the enchanted box set/tour launched. I originally posted on alt.musis.fleetwood mac when it was easy to access on AOL before I even had found the ledge. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing daves posts on alt.music.fleetwood mac quite a while before I found the ledge.

Speaking of people....does anyone know what happened to Michelle Bidwell who lived around/near syracuse new york. I traded cassettes with her for a long time, she was a great trader friend to have. I have no idea whatever happened to her.

I also remember...somebody...somewhere...used to send me like a mailing every month with all sorts of stevie and fleetwood mac collectables. Thats all they sold and it was old school style xerox list of stuff. I think I remember the name...Barbara...Brian....Ben?? It's been sooo long. Somone told me it was a little tiny business in a strip mall or something somewhere. wow those were the days.

There was also a website that used to put out a stevie calendar and they also had a ton of promo photos etc for sale. I think they used to post here from time to time and update everyone on new stock etc. The last I remember hearing from them was around 2001 because I think they had some of those promo lyric books with the parchment paper cover. I actually got one of those for free by e-mailing some promo guy at warner brothers. Fat chance in heck that would happen now.

once upon a time the Penguin, Cyberpenguin as it was called, had a bootleg trading post. They took it down when they tried to become the official FM site I think. I think I bought one from there just so I could hear some old rumours era songs. This was all at the dawn of the modern internet and MP3s were around, but so were 56k modems, realistically 28.8k, and nobody had the connection to download a 4MB song.

Is that website even up anymore? I believe they were a husband and wife team who started photographing the grateful dead and then did a ton of stevie shows and maybe a few mac shows in 03. if this was 1997 I would be on my Apple Macintosh 6500/250 praying for a solid 28K connection, LONG DISTANCE, just so I could spend 4 hours talking to Scott, Erica, Pearl and LauraTN about things like...

1. Stevies fake boobs she keeps in the freezer next to her peas and their many practical uses. OMG. When she bumps her head she grabs one of them and uses them as an ice pack. Uses them as a stress ball when Lindsey pissed her off on the Dance tour. etc.
2. HOw Stevie should get back together with Lindsey and that it was not too late biologically to have kids at 48, and take fertility drugs or invetro so she can have children.
3. Talk about Christine had a secret love child with Dennis Wilson and hid the pregnacy under her clothes during the Tusk tour and how one of us might be the baby, given up for adoption and we have untapped musical talent being the offspring and heir to the Beachboy and fleetwood mac empire.
4. Discuss how lindsey sounds better when he is not mumbling lyrics
5. Beeotch bout how Stevie can sing the high parts but wimps out!
6. Discuss how stevie should TOTALLY wear Red, Pink, and white more often and ditch the black all the time.
7. SHoulder pads. DITCH THEM.
8. Wondering if the Dance was lip synced.
9. Talk about what version of Rhiannon or any other FM song is the "definitive" version.

Wow. I am SO glad I got a life! hahahahahaha

Usenet was SO spammy though. Even by 1997 it was loaded with way too much crap to be any use. Plus at that time, before hotmail, gmail and other web based email programs, you had to share ONE POP email address with everyone in your household. So that kept me from having and sharing the family email address and posting on USenet. My mom would have KILLED me for discussing and receiving the volume of Fleetwood mac stuff I tended to discuss.

I also remember Maureen Loftus(sp?) and James from Yonkers NY (can't remember the last name) who I believe had the master tapes for the nashville 77 and "day on the green '77" (actually kansas city right?) soundboard tapes and released them on CD (25.00 or 35.00 for their CDR with artwork at the time)

I just remember maureen had this huge as list and charged like 15.00, if not more for a 2 CASSETTE recording!!! lol. She would post these huge press release type posts on usernet advertising the upcoming release of Nashville 77, Baton Rouge 78, and the Mirage outtakes. All of which always had pristine crystal clear sound...Ha Ha HA.

Maureen and James always seemed to work together but I don't remember if they were related. I would imagine they made a good chunk of change off of that circle of fans for a few years. They were a little shady.

Plus to add to the "mystique" of bootleg fandom...there were rumours that complete unheard soundboard tapes for more tusk and rumours shows existed in their hands, including those that were hauled off to australia by some guy who refused to share them (dave you would know his name)...
I suppose we will never know exactly what they actually had but never shared. I think a lot of it was BS...but I think the australia source was legit. David would know the full scoop and its probably already been hashed over a million times by now.

I still wonder what in the heck happened to them...they both vanished sometime around 2001 or after.

I think the last time I ever saw any evidence of them dates back to early 2001 before TISL was finished or released, around the time of the dallas austin sessions. One of them bragged to me about having the complete album in their hands as an early release and hinted to all these BS track titles.

I know alot of you know who Frank Harding is. He's the Australia guy youre talking about. Well, in the late 90's he lived here in the Minneapolis area for about 4 years. My friend and I got to know him through an an in goldmine and we became fairly good friends. One day when I went over Frank's and he gave my 2 big boxes of tapes. THey were a mix of a bunch of stuff, but what he told me was that there were a bunch of Fleetwood Mac soundboards that Mick had given him from his personal collection. Frank asked if I would mind organizing the tapes. I said sure. He told me I was welcome to make copies of anything I wanted as long as Promised not to sell them for at least 2 years, which I kept. So I made my copies, gave the organized boxes back to Frank, who then eventually provided them to Maureen. But I was the first to have them before enyone else.

Not true at all. Some newsgroups have died, but many have not. Many text and binary newsgroups still flourish. And I think the coolness factor with Usenet is stronger than it has ever been, because access is a little more complex than it used to be when AOL actually had a newsgroups portal.

Hey Regina!

Yes, Lori is from Pittsburgh. I'm from NY (loved the less than 24 hours I stayed in Pittsburgh, though. I thought it was a really nice city).

I had never seen a full Stevie concert and swore to myself that when the TISL tour started, if it was anywhere on the East Coast, I was going.
And 11 hours on a train...and poof! I was there! (And my backside still remembers how painful that was).

Lori and her husband volunteered to drive me from my hotel to the venue after I told them I was taking a cab. Since it was 45 minutes, I think, to the venue (I assume everything is about five minutes away since I don't drive), I was very grateful, to say the least. And she was a lovely, lovely lady. VERY sweet, down to earth and funny. She and her husband threw a tailgating party and opened it up to all Ledgies in the area. Josh was 16, at the time, I believe and his whole family came. Laurarox, Tori, Keith and a couple of other people I'm blanking on at the moment. And we were all in the parking lot when Stevie started her rehearsal and heard the strains of Planets of the Universe before anyone else. We screamed. Not very restrained of us, but...normal, under the circumstances (and, hey, NEW material!)

It was great, but on the way back, when I was supposed to meet them by the concession stand, I realized there were about 6 of them, so I headed toward the parking lot to find them and promptly got lost--for probably close to an hour. I was convinced they would have left without me, but they found me, eventually. The big, bad NYer was scared to death, though! I'm navigationally challenged. Right now, I'd buy a GPS for myself and strap it to some extremity;-)

haha wow David....yeh I remember ALL of those names?

Whatever happened to rox?Rox just disappeared ... I hope it wasn't those horrific kidnappers in Mexico.

May I just say, Al, how great it is to have you around again? Remember those wonderful, amusing photos you took of all the elephants when your family took you to the circus? I'll always remember those elephants.

I got so many enchanted tour tapes from them because they were some of the first to have almost all of them on tape. Plus you could just send them cassettes and dub them for you....they were kind of like a factory!

The one who posted as "barbara"? (from the Boston area, IIRC?)

Hi Luke and everyone,

I'm the barbara from Boston you're thinking of and, happy to say, I'm very much alive. Barbara H, I think, was from Texas. So sad to hear about her...Vianna, too.

I still lurk a bit, but posting has dwindled to almost never. It's been loads of fun reading about all the old Ledgies!

Hey David
I was thinking....I remembered his name last night but now I cannot remember but what happened to the longtime fan who posted on the usernet newsgroups who collected opera gloves? Remember him? I know he was around for a very very long time, even before my heyday on the newsgroups which really wasn't all that long. I know you knew him pretty well too!

thank you, i'll do something special this & each june 19

i recall many Ledgies…apologies to those overlooked, you’re not forgotten, my recall ability is poor:

anthony – when i had a flashback lurk this morning, there he was, the michigan man, first & foremost

barbara h – i would habitually would look for her posts…such a breath of fresh air…such a sad loss

barb – a wonderful pal, most folks wouldn’t tolerate me for an entire decade – integrity personified

bn – my partner in crime and wit for many years, lost touch, I trust and truly hope he is very well

chili – legendary

david – was always comforted that there were others who had a plain, common member name like mine

hayley – quite a head (red) on those shoulders, took time to get on her good side & hope i’ve remained so

james kirk – fellow canuck who first exposed me to a very clear LP> cassette recording of buck/nicks A+

john b – aka, joe – showed me the ropes, do’s & donts of the net…more dont’s than do’s were retained

johnny stew – always the voice of reason

julie k – truly kind brit/scot gal who is hopefully just too busy with work, fun and theatre to keep in touch

karen/kathy – kind, very kind

keith – wonderful chap, you could look hi & lo and wouldn’t find a mean spirited word in any of his posts

kispirit – had the great fortune of colliding back in early days of the ledge, the slimmest mother on earth

lauren – i don’t think there is a more dedicated & knowledgeable Lindsey fan…lyric interp extraordinaire

les – must have authored a book or encyclopedia by now, what a mind and way with words

luke – always interesting posts, a survivor

marty – thx, a lot of work put into this, what that man endured as moderator…oh, thanks to lis also

patti – a true delight, i would bet she is making somebody giggle this very moment

phil – many laughs exchanged and everyone seemed to enjoy his clever FM music medley quizzes

regina – i remember her arrival on the scene and the constant clarification of how to pronounce her name ;)

sarah – common name but I’m referring to one of the younger members at the time, a very intriguing mind

shane – another survivor and valued member – is any of that late 90’s stuff archived? (polls, pics, etc?)

stephanie – an appreciator of music, diverse taste, big bodean fan, stunning, heart always pumping to the beat

villavic – man of the world. always loved your photos and reading bn and villavic banter over the years

Vianna – my 1st internet acquaintance some dozen yrs ago – when I e-mailed that first time I was nervous, she responded with nothing less than kindness and generosity, her smiling photo is now, truly, a treasure

V was a dedicated teacher for decades, she loved the beach boys, loved to share good music, loved cats

i wasn’t sure if her e-mail was “vcatlvr27” because there were 26 others who had a similar addy, or because she had cared for 27 cats…back in 2000 i was down in NH and thought of detouring to VA and taking her by surprise…regretfully, i never followed that idea through…may peace be with you, V…eternal hugs, jim

this is on a side note....from things way back in the day
I also remember Maureen Loftus(sp?) and James from Yonkers NY (can't remember the last name) who I believe had the master tapes for the nashville 77 and "day on the green '77" (actually kansas city right?) soundboard tapes and released them on CD (25.00 or 35.00 for their CDR with artwork at the time)

Hello everyone. I am back now, and also have been on the boards since the mid 90s!

BOY have the times changed! Anywho I remember that sh*tasss James from Yonkers. What a slimy sleezeball. He posted all over, I think those aol boards too always selling anything and everything. I remember he was front row for Stevie's Jones Beach Enchanted 98 show. He was lucky enough that Stevie's what bass player I think, randomly asked him his name and he had Landslide dedicated. He started bragging about it on the boards, then everyone complained "If Stevie only knew what you really did with her music".

I am glad the times have changed, and he no longer has outlets to make money off of bootlegs. He never got a dime from me!

All of you young kids lol are lucky today. You turn your computer on and waaa laaa within a second you have every Stevie/Fmac video or anything they ever did all over youtube. We did not have any of that in the 90s. The only thing we kind of did have on the net was a website called TheQueenOfRock.com or something. They had most of the Stevie basic MTV videos up. But with slow connection speeds, there was no high speed internet back then, it could take an hour or more to download one video to watch.

I remember even before the internet. The only way to get rare videos, was to order bootleg catalogs from the back of the classified section in Rolling Stone Magazine, or go to some trade show. I went on a huge video store search all around town and found copies of the Mirage and Tusk shows. After renting them, I could not make copies with my vcr's because the tapes had some magentic strip or some crap that kept making the new copies dark. So I begged and begged the video store manager and they sold me the videos. This was before ebay, and the tapes had been out of print since the 80s. I felt like I had a goldmine in my hands at the time :).

As it has been stated already, there were no instant demo mp3's you just click and throw into your Ipod back then, like there is now. In the old days, you made friends on the net and set up snail mail trades. I would go buy blank cassette tapes, and use my old boom box to make copies of shows/demos and mail them out lol. Then, within a week I would go to the damn mailbox everyday with my hopes UP! Finally the day comes where you get that package in the mail and you get all excited with the treasures you would get!

I also enjoyed the excitement you got when you emailed Ginny Karmano before she went crazy. For those of you who do not know her she answered all of Stevie's fan mail in the 80s. By the mid 90s she had a website and you could email her Stevie questions. Sometimes, she would get back to you. I will never forgot the excitement that overtook my body when I would get a Stevie reply from her! I felt like an insider lol, at such a young age.

I remember the queen of rock site! That was the best site for video and interview clips in the pre-youtube, pre-high speed internet days! I think that site has been closed since 2000 or maybe 2001. It actually had some cool clips that are a little bit harder to find on youtube...especially the australian radio program that played the tusk album and interviewed the band the whole time as well.

I remember, I was all of 13 or 14 and my parents had a 28kb dial up modem. It would take forever for that five minute video or audio clip to buffer on realplayer! Ahh those were the days!!!!!

It's kind of sad, the amount of big resourceful sites that have gone by the wayside. Sararhiannon.com had the largest photo archive and I don't believe anyone else has had the same archive to this day. Today you would be forever tracking down half the photos she had on that site, not to mention the massive trade list and demo lyrics. Since most of the trading sites kind of went away with the onset of high speed, it's hard to grasp a sense of what has been taped and what hasn't or what's available and what's not! Especially with the newer fleetwood mac tours etc.

Tracy at Burnish.net is sadly missed as well!! Add stevienicks-info on the list too!

not that many of us traders still around, with the increase in torrent sharing trading tapes/cd's has become less popular than it once was.

I've tried to keep track on what has been in circulation the past few tours (ie - Stevie & Linds' solo tours and the SYW tour 2003-2004), but it does get time consuming after awhile - but I will be at it again come March.

RIP Vianna, you are truly missed! I remember PM conversations with her when Debbie was battling cancer in late 2003/early 2004 - Her words of wisdom helped me out during that time.

I actually met very nice people here. Literally and cyber-ly.

Hey Regina! I remember you from years ago (probably 10 years or so now, as I joined during The Dance, senior year of high school). You traded (actually 2 for 1) with me for stuff back then. I can't remember what it was, maybe some old cassettes of Stevie/Jim Ladd interviews? Perhaps even some videos. I wish I could remember what they were exactly but after a decade stuff like that seems to slip from memory! Some of the videos I aqcuired back then were the Tusk Doc, Mirage Tour, and Disney's Going Home. I'm pretty sure I got those from Marty and Liz themselves back when they used to have the trade page with tons of videos and cassettes that you could buy. That was really nice, but it seems like a lot of people got upset over it (bootlegging) and Marty decided to do away with it. Between you and Marty/Liz, that's how my collection of rarities got started. So thanks!

I love seeing the names of the old ledgies and reminiscing on the days of the "Old Ledge." I never posted much back then (and still really don't) so most people have no idea who I am, but either way it's always fun to talk albout the past!

what a memory you have! wow, I remember so many more of these people now that you posted them and you described everyone so well! thanks James :-)

my pleasure, it was therapeutic actually...i felt like we 'fogies' were briefly reunited at a funeral home and chatting about old friends...when i got news of V's passing it hit me with a reality that was somehow tangiable for the first time since getting online with dialup on AOL canada, eons ago...it made me realize all those former chats and exchanges were with real people, friends, not just digital connections, these were people, not just 1's and 0's...

...hey, good to 'see' you around, Lauren (your pic at your website is gone, actually the whole darned thing is gone!)...now my hesitant question (and i sure hope all worked out fine and healthy!) = you mentioned being pregnant in 08, do you have a wee one now and if so, that brings some wonderful JOY to this thread ie. V and barbara so sadly pass on, but we possibly have a new life aboard, a dear mini-Ledgie???)

btw, Nancy, if you are the former member i'm recalling it's great to see your name, always so kind...i believe i had your name confused with the Karen(s) i listed above...i've no idea why i always confuse those names, same goes for Bills and Mikes...i certainly didnt recognize your new login name...this place has the zaniest and most perplexing member names:p

and i also remember Justine, absolutely...i see one can sift through a member list which would help with total recall but that's a lot of clicking and there are now tons of members, wow...congrats to phil on the neps and i read that stephanie (ok, i just edited my post as this new member name may be a newer person but the congrats still apply!) had a child:] i tired to click on a photo but it was a stale link, i'm certain the wee he/she is a prize with beaming eyes and constantly smothered with lips!:xoxo:

i also recall an pretty early pal called Angie (something like akfunky49 aol from FL), she was a dear and a true blast

ok, this is what i dropped by to ponder out loud - where i've gone to school they quite often would name academic rewards (or for just being a wonderful, congenial student) for long serving teachers who had passed...i do know where V taught and might follow that up...luke, by chance did you live near her/her school? if something like that was done that would make me feel, well hard to articulate but let's say pretty much the opposite of last week, it would be truly uplifting:angel:

i am sorry for the loss of a loved one 'estrangedlife', and hope johnny stew's loved ones and he are managing and recovering

david, well that is just absolutely great to hear! my bro and other will also love this update...btw, my address has not changed...bn moved then new job, then had ISP trouble and must have changed addy's cos i got bounce backs years ago ...can one find email addy's here for members?

i didnt mean to be such a windbag but there was more than a few times this week (quite odd times, actually) i recalled some Ledge thread/e-mail/even snail mail exchanges that gave me a bursting inner smile:nod:

sincere wellness to all, and i must say, thank YOU(s) - jim

ps) i am glad youtube wasn't around back then for many of us may not have become friends, even briefly....we'd also not had the joy of receiving and opening highly anticipated video packages... and of course the burden of having to buy all those darn bubble envelopes and rolls of stamps, lol...sorry for the steady dose of typos and dropped prepositions, somethings never change:rolleyes:

hi paulo, indeed i remember you (and may have confused you with villavic)...i just realized i've confused old names vs. new member logins...i don't believe old member names were rolled over when the Ledge took on a new face...there are so many others who were around long ( a year anyhow) before me and they would be the best ones to put up some sort or recall checklist...i'm sure i've overlooked many and some likely fairly obvious, lke yourself:)

cheers, jim ( i think that's the former login i'd used, or perhaps something like nixlover;))

I had a dial-up computer and answering those 40 question polls took me hours because AOL would knock me off right in the middle of it. It became a personal challenge to see if I could get through those things, no matter how many attempts I had to make. And it never helped that I was (yeah, like that's in the past tense) such a windbag, either.

I've only lurked here for a few years, and I'm sure it's similar now and connections are made, but a few of us really did become very good friends and have remained that way for years. So, it's nice that this place brought all of us together.

And sharing that stuff--scratchy old recordings on audio tapes, and looking at them as if they were gifts from heaven--those WERE the days!

Hey, Brad! I remember Marty and Lis' list, too. I was unemployed at the time and money was SO tight. I had just put in my first order and had a whole other one waiting...and the list went poof! I was so disappointed. But, that's what started the trading thing. So many people were so incredibly generous, it's amazing.

(and, James--it is, indeed Ruh-GEE-Nah;-)

btw, Nancy, if you are the former member i'm recalling it's great to see your name, always so kind...i believe i had your name confused with the Karen(s) i listed above...i've no idea why i always confuse those names, same goes for Bills and Mikes...i certainly didnt recognize your new login name...this place has the zaniest and most perplexing member names:p

James, I didn't post back then, just lurked, so don't worry - you didn't call me by the wrong name. Although incidentally I do get called "Karen" a lot! That's my sister's name.

You sound kinda paranoid.

Michele let me know about this thread several days ago, and I had intended to reply sooner. Thanks for asking about me, Nancy. :xoxo:

my pleasure, it was therapeutic actually...i felt like we 'fogies' were briefly reunited at a funeral home and chatting about old friends...when i got news of V's passing it hit me with a reality that was somehow tangiable for the first time since getting online with dialup on AOL canada, eons ago...it made me realize all those former chats and exchanges were with real people, friends, not just digital connections, these were people, not just 1's and 0's...

...hey, good to 'see' you around, Lauren (your pic at your website is gone, actually the whole darned thing is gone!)...now my hesitant question (and i sure hope all worked out fine and healthy!) = you mentioned being pregnant in 08, do you have a wee one now and if so, that brings some wonderful JOY to this thread ie. V and barbara so sadly pass on, but we possibly have a new life aboard, a dear mini-Ledgie???)

I know, we "fogies" right? or like John McVie said of FM- we all end up in the old folks home- Sunrise Home or something right? I am still very saddened about V and just had no idea.....

My website is still up as far as I know? The LB one right? I checked it last week although I never have time to update it and should just take it down. I was pregnant in 05 (did I post the wrong year? I remember having Stevie Nicks tickets to Red Rocks and had to sell them that night- it was 105 degrees on the rocks and I couldn't sit out there being pregnant, was so upset!) Anyway, I have a three year old little boy whose a total joy-and a handful- LOL! Hey, I am trying to get him to like Lindsey and FM. So far he just tells me to turn off GYOW when I play it- "lower mommy"! But he loves to dance and does love music.

I believe she used "Vianna." Another wonderful person who died some years back was Barbara H.

I wonder what ever happened to Char (Charlotte), Lindsey fan extraordinaire.

Wow! I was just reading all these posts -- I used to post (on and off) to the Ledge back in the late 90s or so, back when I was in college and I had a lot of time and money to spend on FM bootlegs and stuff.... I doubt anyone remembers me; I didn't get to go to any of the FM concerts, but I did see Stevie a few times....

I remember Vianna; she traded some Christine McVie videos with me back in the 90s -- sorry to hear about her.... And I remember a Laura from California (not sure if she's the same one everyone's talking about) who used to trade all kinds of videos and tapes with me. There were a lot of people I can't recall offhand who were nice enough to trade stuff with me.... :-) (Unfortunately, the trading had to stop when my parents found out about all the packages I was getting in the mail and how much money I was spending on this stuff -- my dad thought I was going to get arrested and all that....)

But anyway, I do post occasionally on the Christine McVie board, and I do a lot of lurking..... And I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who traded with me and kept me in the loop.....

Andrea :)

if this was 1997 I would be on my Apple Macintosh 6500/250 praying for a solid 28K connection, LONG DISTANCE, just so I could spend 4 hours talking to Scott, Erica, Pearl and LauraTN about things like...

1. Stevies fake boobs she keeps in the freezer next to her peas and their many practical uses. OMG. When she bumps her head she grabs one of them and uses them as an ice pack. Uses them as a stress ball when Lindsey pissed her off on the Dance tour. etc.

i remember this from the talk to me chat room back in the day.

i feel like i've seen LauraTN (BIG ASS HUGS & KISSES) on a post here and there within the last year or two.. and i think she has some lindsey videos she's made up on youtube.

i was around back then, and i do have the box of cassettes and vhs bootlegs to prove it. ;) i'm really sorry to hear about vianna.

Wow, I remember I joined back in '98 and even back then, I felt like I had joined a little late, (I think my screen name was Alexa, since there was already an Ali) but everyone seemed to have connected over The Dance tour and unfortunately I missed out on that. Everything was so exciting back then (to me). I remember when I ordered a couple videos from the trading post and was so excited when I was able to watch them, even the ones that you could hardly see the picture, the quality was so bad. Everyone was so nice and always willing to help and I was able to build my collection up to mass amounts (all in a box in a closet today). Thanks to those many ledgies who helped me out....Luke, Hayley, blackcat, calamity, Lauren..(who, btw, I loved her website, The Man and His Music!). I still remember when Janet posted that Lindsey had a son with Kristen (based on an article found in the paper about the Lindsey complaining about the nosie at the hospital or something) Everyone was in an uproar over that because nobody even knew he had a girlfriend.

One thing I do miss about the old Ledge was the relationships and friendships people formed over the band. Maybe I just don't visit as much today, but it seems like people connected more back then. I guess it could have been because of the newness aspect of it all.

I wish I could say that I loved the band as much as I did back then, but life got in the way....I was a young college student back then, carefree, with no worries. Now I have a real life. lol. The memories have been fun! What ever happened to Rhapsody, blackcat, calamity? I remember those three always getting in little fights, usually with Rhapsody instigating..

yes, dear calamity, blackcat...the list goes on and on...and add my best to johnnystew wishes:)

oh, that blackledge recap was startling stuff to read (although it definitely rang a bell), but all pretty confusing...but i guess even families and workplaces end up having black ledges....btw, michele, here seems wonderful:)

totally great (and funny) stuff, Lauren!:)
in a nutshell, I'm up to my eyeballs with a dear and curious little fella about your sons age....there's some other odds and ends but nothing else really ranks...junior taught me more about myself in 4 years than I ever learned in 4 decades....I don't plan on adding another one (or eight, lol)

I'm heading down for a little USA visit next week but far from your neck of the woods or it could be a play date, lol

this thread is packed with highs and lows...very FM-like:nod:

thanks for asking, Lauren and all the very best... jim

I was just a lurker back then but do recognize a lot of the names. Didnt actually join and regularly participate till TISL. Time constraints & life seem to have always kept me from participating enough to actually build friendships with people on here although I always recognize so many names that I feel a sense of camaraderie with everyone although it seems more sparse & negative recently, which I try to just roll by.
Anyways, it's fun that you've resurrected several of these old threads AnthonyMI-they're a lot of fun to read. Hope you find some of your old pals!

Same here. I started visiting in '99 and I lurked for two years! It's kind of weird to remember a time when I found the Ledge intimidating. In 1999, I was just a member of Stevie / Lindsey groups where we talked about the two of them and shared fanfic about the band (judge me if you like - we had a lot of fun.) I used my 10 megs of AOL space to start a site called "Turning the Pages" which became BuckinghamNicks.net.

Holy crap, my site is almost 20 years old.

That can't be right....

Threads like this can make you a bit sad, because you think about how at the time, you shared so much with these people and now, you don't even know if most of them are dead or alive. Such is life, especially in the internet age when we're all so far flung, but it does make one's heart hurt a little. Or, at least, it makes my heart hurt a little.

I very much miss the old newsgroups of usenet. There were some great people and interesting discussions on those newsgroups (not just the FM one). And they weren't cluttered up by useless graphics and avatars.

When I saw Peter Green in concert in 2000 and posted a review of the show on the FM newsgroup, someone on the group sent me an audience recording of the show. Was that person any of you? I'd like to say thank you.

I arrived in 2001 apparently. I thought it was 2000 but when I click my profile it says 2001. I was also dragged here by David after getting to know him on the old alt.music.fleetwood mac Usenet thing for a few years :D

I'm the one who famously likes cokey Stevie better than pokey Stevie. I also like round wooden tambourines, real flowers instead of beads on the mic stand, actual platform boots, and when Stevie used to bellow her vocals like a crazed banshee. She was always at her best when one foot was in the rock n roll grave, so RAL forever for me.

My name isn't Pete, it was the name of my longtime companion/partner. After we broke up and I met someone else, I felt weird about using the name Pete so I went on a wild deleting spree here, trying to remove as many posts as I could. That's why my posting history is light for someone who has been here a decent amount of years. I got bored of trying to delete them, and post only rarely. I don't know anyone here now anyway.

There was also another type of Black Ledge (under a different name but with better colors) that existed for a few months, I was part of that and then I don't remember but it was gone after about a year. Bunch of rascals they were.

Hello!

I used to post a little bit around here a while back. Some of you older members might remember me. I'm Jennifer and I lived in Kentucky. I was a massive FM/SN fan virtually all my life. Around 2004/2005 I started drifting away to other artists and when I listened to FM or Stevie it was the older recordings.

I was really heavy into trading for a while and met so many wonderful folks through that. I remember Brian J. (one of my very favorites), Sara M. (who owned the awesome sararhiannon.com), Tiffany (BlueWhiteFire) and Neil (FM UK). I also did A LOT of trading with Paolo (got some super rare--for the time--concerts on cassette from Paolo!). I also have a great fondness in my heart for Mathew G. (he's on the board but I truly can't remember his screen name). I remember him being such a wonderfully nice and down to earth guy. It was always a pleasure talking with him on the boards or in an email.

One of my hobbies was also briefly maintaining a web site, The Three Birds of Rhiannon. I LOVED going through all the 'old school' demo and outtake CD's and gathering together all the different versions of the songs and making list after list. It was an old Geocities site (if anyone here still remembers that!) I had always wanted to put the site back online in a blog or something. In 2012 I had a house fire and lost all my data files and boots, and with it, my ability to put the site back together. I went through the Internet trying to find all the old demo sets but all the old school sets seem to have disappeared in favor of master reel compilations. :( I also went through the Internet Archive hoping to find old pages but didn't find as much as I hoped. I posted some concerts a few years back here on the boards.

I met the person I love more than anything in this world on the Ledge: my dearest friend, Adam. He and I used to talk on AIM every night for hours (he lives in Canada and I'm in the US). His friendship and support got me through some of the hardest and worst times in my life. I probably would have given up a long time ago were it not for him. No matter what my situation, I would move heaven and earth to get to him if he needed me. We don't get to talk that much anymore since both of our lives have changed so drastically. I have to say that if it wasn't for the Ledge I never would have had him in my life. And my life was so much better just because he was, and is, in it.

Since my days of being a poster here I've moved from Kentucky to North Carolina. I've gotten married and am the step mother to two children, a 13 year old boy and a 15 year old girl. I lost my mother on August 5, 2015. Lost my car in an accident the following April, had 3 surgeries, had both legs burned and grafted, lost all my savings, my house in Kentucky was burglarized and virtually destroyed and lived through a horrible cycle of domestic violence (all coming from a 13 year old kid). Life has been HARD; almost unbearable since July 2015 but I've managed. Every day I want to run home to Kentucky but that isn't really an option anymore. I got back into FM/SN music and that's kept my spirits up more than I ever thought it would. It's an ugly story but I'm a survivor.

I still lurk on the boards when I can. It's nice to see the old names I remember from the good old days. You know you're old when you start using that phrase!

Rewind back to 1977 at the Philly Spectrum and it goes really waaaay back. 41 years of her Stevieness.

I was around in about '96 for a couple of years, made all those Buckingham Nicks tapes for anyone who wanted them, that was a fun time. Met a lot of great people.

After the board crash I got caught up in life and didn't rejoin until sometime time in the early 2000's but I found that once the Ledge was broken up into sub forums there seem to be a lot more contention between different fans so I backed off a bit.

I still pop up every now and then to see what is new or if I hear something fun about the band.

I actually met some people from the board in real life and continue to have friendships with them. So I will always be thankful to the Ledge for that :)

I loved trading with you and the others you mentioned (Sara M./Neil/Tiffany/Paolo). Been battling health issues (Surgery related) so I don't trade anymore, just want to get healthy and stay healthy...May get back into trading again someday.

Those were the days. I remember spending most my allowance and meager sub minimum wage internship high school paycheck on very very low quality 100th generation hissy tapes of crackly warbled demos and outtakes back when the the Penquin actually was in the business of illegal trading. It was around the early 2000s when MP3 Became popular and they shut that down in a vain attempt to legitimize the site and bid to become the official site of the band like the Nicksfix (R.I.P.) did.

I started reading The Ledge in 1997; can't remember when I joined.

I have been around since at least 97-98, when I first got a computer and was going crazy with all of these FM sites. Back when the Nicks Fix was a fan site lol too!:blob1:

I'm pretty sure the cool people
didn't join here until 2008.

Except for me and Rusty.

So true.

I can't think about Fleetwood Mac without
thinking about Rusty.

Same is true for Stevie and Barry.

Me! I was MaryLiz back then too. Became *obsessed* with the band when The Dance came out. I was in college, so had plenty of free time between classes to chat with others on the original board. I remember trading bootlegs and videos with torrey, Keith and blackcat among others. I may have received one of those Buckingham Nicks tapes from James Kirk. :)

Graduated college and my time to devote to following the band waned, though I rejoined around the time of the Say You Will Tour.

I've popped in here occasionally looking for news on MusiCares (once I found out Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas were performing) and to see if/when tour dates were announced.

Today's Lindsey news brought me here to see what on earth is going on.

Hi AnthonyMI!

Old-school Ledgie here:-)

I was on in 1996, when it was just one lonnnnnnng thread with subheaders, and remember when the Adelsons split it into separate boards for Stevie, Lindsey, etc. It was pretty huge when that happened.

Ah yes, the ‘Ledge Wars’....remember ‘The Knight’?

It really is criminal how little I post here, but work takes up a good deal of time.

I still run into Regina, BlackCat and Farrah at shows from time to time...

Love,
Gypsy

I joined in 1998 and joined this "Ledge" in 2000. What great times, I still remember getting my first VHS from the Adelsons of very old FM material that was very very grainy. Lol. But very cool stuff. Through the years, I collected boxes and boxes of VHS, DVDs, CDs etc through trading and met alot of very nice people. I ended up giving away half of my stuff because I had nowhere to put it all!
