A Fleetwood Mac DVD without "Oh Well" (by ANY incarnation) when one is available is SHAMEFUL, simply SHAMEFUL.

:distress:

Songbird: Japan concert  (whatever)

Perhaps we could swap "Albatross" for "Oh Well" if Option 2 wins... or add "Oh Well" to Option1 if it wins.

(I still want to know though... is "Oh Well" not on the DVD version of 'The Early Years'? Because it's most certainly on my VHS copy, and as much as I love the song and Peter Green, why double-up on something from a previous lineup, that's already available?)

All in all, it looks like this poll showed how similar, yet utterly disimilar, so many fans' tastes are.
Who felt that no collection would be complete without "Songbird"... who felt that we've seen and heard it enough.
Who felt that a compilation without "Oh Well" would be sacrilegious... and who felt that the collection should focus solely on the years following 1975.

And yet, there were so many others songs that we ALL said must be included, and were pretty much "no-brainers."

Guess we're as diverse as the various Mac members themselves.

Johnny Stew,

I agree with ChiliD, to have a Mac compilation without "Oh Well" would not be a good thing, even if we have to replace, as Greeny put it "Albert Ross" it would be better than not having it at all.

Just think what a powerful opening the DVD would have with Peter Green and Danny Kirwan firing out the riffs of "Oh Well" and with Peter grinning to himself in confidence, instead of a rather slow start with Albatross. (?)

'Songbird' from the Mirage Concert if we have to choose. Chris and Lindsey are just so sweet on that version.

About 'Oh Well', if there are so many people that want it...can we just ask Ken if it could fit it on wich ever option wins? If it can, great! I mean it couldn't hurt to ask right? Maybe he could fit all the songs in the option that wins, plus 'Oh Well'.

I'd certainly be all for replacing the redundant (for this comp anyways) "Albatross" with "Oh well" (or adding it to the other list if that one wins) but I think these ARE the FINAL lists ("Songbird" seems to be the only area up for possible debate) as they seem to want to get a list sent off to Ken without further delay so I guess "Oh well" is not to be.

There is "A" version of "Oh well" on the "Early years" release (VHS & DVD) but it is NOT the version that certainly appears to be on the "video comp reel" as this is listed next to actual "live" performances that were performed on a British TV show that did appear on the "Early years" disc (such as "Like crying" & "Linda") but if you haven't seen it, it's a great live version of the song, parts of it have appeared on some of those British FM documentaries such as "The Story of FM" & "FM at 21" and this (I thought) would have been a great addition to the release as this version doesn't appear on the "Early years" video comp for some bizarre reason. The version that IS on there is interesting "video wise", but, admittedly, not "audio wise" as they seem to be lip synching to the audio live track of the song that appeared on the Boston Tea Party tapes and as there doesn't seem to be any film footage existing of those shows, I doubt that the video portion of that was from the Tea Party but it would be interesting to find out where it is from someday though if nothing else. however, much inferior choice on the part of the compiler of that release. Anyways, hope this clears up the "Oh well" situation.

Ahh, ok... like I said, I have the Early Years on VHS, and I know "Oh Well" is on there (have watched it many times!), and even though I havent purchased a DVD copy yet, I know it's on the cover as being included... so i was curious as to whether or not it really was.

Thanks for clearing it up, John!

IMO putting Albatross on a video is like watching paint dry. Oh Well would be more visually AND aurally interesting.

Songbird from Japan...
I know I'll be promptly shot down with the following little beef but...do you we really need 4 from Rosebud? Wouldn't another Midnight Special serve as well or perhaps (more logical) give the Tango live show a little representation?

Really there's not a whole lot of difference between the two. Maybe Ken COULD squeeze all the songs from both options onto the DVD. I like that idea!

I do agree that "Oh Well" should be included. It's a classic and would be a great way to start the DVD.

I'd have to go with the Japan clip of "Songbird"...just please get that song on there!!

Wasn't there some concern from Ken Caillat about getting the footage from the Mirage Concert since HBO owned the rights to it?
That could shake up the lineup a little bit since both options have at least three songs from it.

Whichever list prevails today will be our "wishlist"; It is not set in stone. It is entirely possible that some of this material is not going to be available to us. If that's the case, we'll probably have some other quick votes on replacements or maybe leave it up to Ken to find replacements for a certain bandmember or a certain era since he may have a better idea about what he can get licensing rights for.

But as for this wishlist, today is the last day to vote on this. We've been working on ideas for the DVD for almost a month and I think we could probably vote for another month and still all want to tweak and change things. Hehe. But we just can't as Marty and Ken need to move forward with this.

We can make the executive decision to replace Albatross with Oh Well, but I don't want to do that if it will upset people who voted for that option specifically because it does have Albatross. The majority speaking up now seem to want Oh Well. Should we make that substitution if that list wins?

BTW, if this vote is another tie, I'm flipping a coin! ;)

For option 2, 'The Chain' and 'Sisters of The Moon' could be swapped for the same songs but from the 'Tusk Documentary'. Or even take 'The Chain' from Japan, if it comes to this.

I still think that it couldn't hurt to ask Ken if 'Oh Well' could fit on whatever option wins. It's not a bad question to ask. If Option 2 wins...'Oh Well, could start it off followed by 'Albatross'. I think 'Albatross' is a good song and it has John in it! ;)

Johnny S,

Yes, there IS a version of "Oh Well" on the "Early Years" compilation. From what I've been led to understand is that the one on the "video comp" reel is one that has only seen light of day in the US as a 30 second clip in the Disney Documentary. Might even be a third completely different version.

I'm not really complaining that it HAS to be a version of "Oh Well" by the Peter Green era band, could be by either Lindsey or Billy & Rick (and please if there IS a God, someday some Bob Welch footage will surface!)

I'm just thinking that if the BAND THEMSELVES felt the song was important enough to keep in their set from 1969-1995, it should be on the DVD in SOME form. :)

Actually, what would be really cool, to me anyway, would be to have versions of "Oh Well" by as many incarnations as possible spread out throughout the DVD, but that's another time, another place. :blob2:

I vote for Songbird from Japan.

And I too wish "Oh well" could be added to the list. Albatross is great number too, but I think "Oh well" should be the opening number. Well I know this is not set in stone and just a wishlist.

I do agree that there might be too many performances from Rosebud. But that's ok (though i wish the whole thing could be released in its full length).

I still picked option 2 because i like the rest of it better. so replacing albatross would be very cool.

The Penguin has been down for a while. But it's up now. The vote is over. We have a winner.

OPTION 2

In the straw vote on the version of Songbird to be included -- it looks like the Japan performance takes the day.

We'll see what we can do about the Oh Well situation.

Thank you everybody for voting (and voting and voting and voting and voting...)! ;)

But I have to say:

I would have gone with Option 2, so I'm glad it won.

I too would have chosen Japan Songbird.

I also would prefer Oh Well to Albatross.

And hey, if there's a little room left, couldn't you PLEASE throw on that cool live version of Over My Head??? Hehehe, I just DON'T know when to quit, huh? ;)

Well, I unfortunately missed the voting as well!!! I go and miss 3 days on The Ledge and what a 3 days it is!!!!!!!!

Well, I too, like Lori, would have gone for Option 2.....so.....good good, I'm pleased.

Probably would have gone with Japan Songbird.

And definitely think Oh Well should be added....if it can't be added, then replace Albatross with it.

Live version of Over My Head??? Hmmm.......Lori, keep on going!!! Don't quit now!!!!!!!

Just curious why even include any footage from The Dance when it is already available on DVD and VHS and there seems to be no danger of these songs becoming lost without ever being recorded to DVD.. I'd much rather have a couple more rare video songs included.

Hi Angelo...

Early on in the discussions, it became apparent that many people were most interested in an overview of Fleetwood Mac's career, from 1975 onward.
So, even though The Dance is readily available on DVD and VHS, a few performances from the concert were included because this was a major moment in the band's career.

:)

Well I can certainly understand it if The Dance clips are part of an overview spanning Fleetwood Mac's career... I missed a lot of the discussion here the past couple of weeks due to time contraints and health problems.. so I missed the post about wanting to include the overview...

I had no idea there was voting going on...sadly I was not able to participate in the voting... But I think there are a lot of great clips here.. and yes I would have voted for #2 as well. You all did a good job compiling a winning list.
