I decided, once I figured out how, to post this question: What should I say to Mick Fleetwood once I meet him? All suggestions welcome. I am so psyched!!! It was a bit of money, but I hope it will be worth it!

I don't know, but you'll have a few chances to get it right, right? :]

Well, I want to say something... I don't want to look like a goober, lol. I am a relatively small person. Just standing next to him makes me think I will go stupid because tall people intimidate me, to a degree.

Be prepared for a huge man. He is like 6'5 and must weigh about 220. He is a BIG man. I am 6'2 and he was much taller than me. I was a couple feet from him once in Boston as he was coming off an airplane. I was so intimidated by his size and my fandom that I kinda froze.

To answer your question though I always think that a hello nice to meet you and thank you for all the great music over the years is the best easiest comment to make.

I am gonna have to agree... I have this idea of him, because of videos and pictures, that he is like a REGAL-Lunatic... IN A LEGENGARDY sort of way, lol. I thought that I would make note that their work has always been a part of my life. Thank him for the opportunity and wish the best for the band on their travels. (Our show is the 3rd, or 4th stop.) What do ya think?

Well you could be like the Queen of England (to Eric Clapton I think?)

"So what do you do?"

"I'm a musician"

"Have you been doing that for long?"

kennation

It is funny that you said that. Recently, I watched a documentary on her and there was a segment where they discussed her, "conversation routine." It was hilarious, "And what do you do? How long have you been doing that? Has it turned out the way you thought that it would?" I thought I would pull somehting along those lines, but he would be like, "And you call your self a fan? You know nothing about me." lol

Ironically, I found the documentary VERY interesting! Initially, I thought that it was going to bore me to tears.

My first thought was "how can we convince Christine to rejoin the band?", but since this is more impossible than the ABBA reunion.. a more realistic question could be...

Can you convince your partners to play songs never played live before? (Tango in the night, Storms, etc..)

and of course ask for a picture with him!! I like Mick in spite of all that stuff I have read about him ($)

See, I haven't read anything about Mick, as it relates to his greed... or even his general vibe. If you know of some reading material I would find interesting... i would appreciate you sending it on to me.

I will definitely get a pic! Beyond that, I am good with our Pre-show DRINKS! lol

Okay don't everyone yell at me...... I'm a little lost........ Mick said he would do meet and greets for the ILAA packages??? Figures!! I've done the fan club thing for 1 FM show and ILAA for the Stevie and Don show...... both were front row seats which was very cool. I got ripped off and never received my signed tourbook I was suppose to get through the fan club deal. Other than that they were kind of cool but nothing spectacular other than being in front row :) For the FM one we got to go on a backstage tour but didn't see anyone in the band. Got to see the outside of the tour buses, got to see Micks vest up close and Stevies mic........ got to see a bunch of their tour cases--Lindseys had about 20 white shirts in it...... Stevie's wasn't open......... for the Stevie/Don deal we got dinner and they raffled off a bunch of stuff. I won the signed Tambourine so that was DEFINITELY worth it!! Ummmm...... as everyone knows the special goody for the Stevie show was the pen set and candles........ Don's drummer came out and said hi and signed autographs for people which was kind of cool but I didn't know him from Joe!! LOL!! Got the lanyard tour pass thingys for both and a special tee shirt for the FM one...... I think that is about it. They were both fun and I got to meet some nice people--would I do it again?? Yeah probably if I had the money this time around--am I going to do it this time--nope!! Definitely can't afford it :( So it freakin' figures there may be a meet and greet this time!! UGH!

As for taking pictures--if you are going to the Auburn Hills show good luck.... they are kind of strict there. It isn't impossible but they do check for them and yell at you if they see you..... I got escorted out at a Guns N Roses show for trying to take pics there and had to check my camera in and couldn't get it back until after the show. But maybe that is because of the group......... I did get some pics during FM's SYW tour there but also did get yelled at when I got caught. I'm thinking you should be good for the backstage stuff though. Anyways--have a great time and we all want to hear full reports back!! I will be at the show just not doing a package deal. Just for comparison........ I met Tesla for $250 in October.... that included soundcheck--autographs--pics with the whole group and being able to hang out a little with the band........ got a decent tote bag with their newest DVD and their last 2 CDs and a photo for them to autograph which is cool because since they autograph it right in front of you you know they are real. Their show was general admission so the VIP people got to enter the venue first and be in the front--and they totally allow cameras and could care less if their fans take pics and record so I also got a bunch of pics that night......so if anyone from the FM front is reading this--for the money they are charging you would think you would get a little more........

Ok, I totally agree with what you are saying. I think that if you pay HUGE money let us say like, "$1,800+" you should get a little something extra. Honestly, I would never have gotten to experience all of the mac greatness that I have if it were not for my beau. I grew up in a REALLY small town in SE KY and spent all my time listening to FM thinking: There IS more to life. I CAN BE MORE. I know how sad that may sound to you all, but it was all I had to get me through all the prejudice and violence I had to face. So I met this wonderful person who has helped me build my hopes and dreams and my dreams included: BEING REALLY CLOSE AT A FM CONCERT. MEETING STEVIE, which I have, and MEETING MICK. I get to do that now.

Do you think that this show may face problems because of weather? I heard that weather in MICHIGAN in MARCH is horrible. I fear that my dreams may NOT come true because of weather, yuck.

P.S.
IF any of you know anyone at iloveallaccess.com tell them that your friend, Kenny is really wanting to be front row. Just once.

Well, I'm glad he had a lot of shirts. That takes a load off my mind. It would have been nice if you could have seen Stevie's opened.

Thanks for telling us what you got. I think they might sell more packages if they assured people they would get a front row seat like you did.

That is not always the case. I got tickets from Tom Petty's fan club and only got 10th row off to the side. People ended up getting the first 5 center rows the day of the show. I am sorry but if I ever fork over big bucks I better know where I am going to be seated.

Honestly, I ADORE JOHN! I find him to be sooo fascinating. He maintains through all the media drama and he keeps it real. Now, I heard he was tough when he was younger, but I would say most of us were too. YES!!! I would love to meet Johna nd compare my penguin tatt to his. I actually drew mine and signed, "MAC" at the bottom and it looks fantastic. I think he would REALLY dig it! So... yeah. John is the definition of cool bass-player!!!

It's kind of freakish to expect people to pony up hundreds of dollars to be met & greeted -- considering they already had the opportunity to be met & greeted by you at dozens of Costcos a few years ago ... for absolutely free.

Mick loves money. Unfortuantely he doesn't seem to be too good at actually keeping any of it as he seems to burn through it at alarming rates. I wouldn't pay extra just to meet him, although I would consider it if LB or SN or even JM was a part of this promo too. But not just to meet Mick. Frankly, I'm just not that impressed with him.

Well, especially when the original ticket is $800-1000. I wonder if you can trade. Like if you give up the laminated pass, do you get to meet Mick for free? I think that would be an even exchange!

To be honest, I love the idea (no matter what the cost) to have the laminet, and pre-show party, and hassle-free entrance into the show. That level of exclusivity costs money. A meet and greet shouldn't be an additional charge. I agree with that, but that is the price I have paid because it is what I wanted. If I were picky I would say I want a meet and greet with a backstage tour, and etc., but that is not what is promised. I am ok with that. I do think it's a little sad that no one else will do the meet and greet with him, but again... I paid the price for what I got and I am (hopefully) going to have a WONDERFUL time.

No it doesn't, they just choose to charge. Hell, I met Mick in 1992, Bekka in 1992 and 1995, and Peter Green in 1998. DavidMn probably hasn't paid any extra to meet Lindsey, and Lindsey now has a nickname for him!

I think a meet and greet with all of the members of the band should be included for the price they are charging. I couldn't care less about all of the bs they are including in their packages. The most important thing to me is my seat. Maybe if I was guaranteed first three rows and a m&g and autograph from all members, I'd consider it. Or, for instance, if the band was attending the pre-show party.

I find it insulting that the package details were listed and then they added the $125 option of meeting Mick. Couldn't FM give up a few minutes to meet with fans that are paying that amount of money to see them? Is Mick including a one hour drum lesson for that $125?

I also find it ridiculous that the best they can guarantee is a seat in the first ten rows.

It is insulting. You shell out all of that money for a VIP package and instead of sending you a grand and gracious THANK YOU, they send an email askiing you if you wouldn't like to spend more for a meet and greet. It's basically an acknowledgment that they recognize a sucker when they meet one (or get their credit card number) and just want to see how much more they can swindle them for.

But hey, maybe Mick will be different than he was at Costco and you don't have to think of brilliant wine questions to ask him. So, that's probably worth $125.00.

You just have to be in the right place a the right time, With Lindsey it was MUCH easier since he was on his solo tours and there wasnt that "FLeetwood Mac" machine to worry about. I.E everybody elses security. Alot of times I would just wait outside the venue for Lindsey to show up and occasionally(but not often) I would go to the hotel lobby for a chat as well. Mick I met 2 times once in Minneapolis at the hotel in 1997 and once outside the hotel in Cleveland in 2003. One of the reasons its much harder with Fleetwood Mac to meet them is that, for example, in cities such as Rochester and Albany they almost certainly would not be staying in those cities. THey will surely be in NYC and fly to each of those shows.

I'm normally just a lurker round these parts but I feel the need to say something...
The amount of Mick Fleetwood bashing here leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. If it wasn't for the man that's so easy for you to hate do you think there would even be a tour? He and John are the heart and soul of this band and this is coming from a shipper who adores Stevie and Lindsey :) I think its awesome that he's doing this meet and greet. The others aren't, maybe they don't want to bother with it, I don't know and I'm not going to analyze or judge them for it. I don't feel like anyone in this band owes me anything. But Mick at least wants to interact with the fans. And yeah the price stinks, but lets face the facts... you aren't paying $200 extra just to meet Mick, you're also supposed to get better seats than the cheaper package plus the other perks. And btw, on these ILAA packages.. That's how much other bands/acts charge for the same damn thing. Its not Mick's so called greed coming into play. I guarantee that he didn't come up with the price himself.
I can't afford to do the Meet and Greet but I'm not complaining. And I'm very excited for those of you that are. Mick is a great guy, met him in 1990 and he was nothing but generous and considerate :)

The extra money is not for the seats. It is just to meet Mick. You aren't supposed to get any better seats for the extra money. I already had a 5 Star VIP package and then they sent an email about Mick. No better seat accompanies the Mick greeting.

the ILAA website is very misleading! I didn't realize that the meet and greet price was in addition to the 5 star package. I still stand by what I said in defense of Mick though. I personally think the prices for the packages are ridiculous but its still on par with what most big name acts charge for the same thing.
And I think those of you who get to meet him will be glad you did. I got a long conversation and drawing from him when I met him. And I approached him leaving an interview. He certainly didn't have to talk to me, let alone spend all that time with me.

I was talking about when I met him in 1990. My point was that he was beyond cool when I met him randomly so I would assume those that pay to meet him will be very happy with the experience.

I would hope that if you pay the extra $200 you are guaranteed to meet him?! I didn't get the email cause I'm not doing the package.

Eesh.

How to explain this without sounding snarkier than I already have?

These All Access things seem to put a price on fandom. The True Fans buy the packages. And, yeah, they probably do, if they can afford that much in one shot. But, to me--that's the horrid part of it. Because the true fans should have access to these seats through a genuine fanclub situation where only a nominal (if any) fee is charged. They are the ones who supported the band from the start. Who buy every stinking version of Dreams and Go Your Own Way and You Make Loving Fun FM has ever put out. And in multiple copies.

So, knowing how devoted their fans are--FM (and I'm not at all sure it's ALL of FM and would almost bet it's not)--decides to stick it to them (to use a nice, vulgar term) by charging them MORE than they do the general public? And, then, after they do this and get a few people to pay these outrageous prices, they can't just have Mick make a nice, surprise visit during this pre-show extravaganza (stale sandwiches and root beer, probably), just to say hi and thank you? He has to make MORE money on the appearance? What kind of a thank you is that?

I hate that idea. Stevie has done meet and greets--but she's done it for charity. That's a whole other ballgame. This money is going to one charity--FM's pockets, and Mick is making sure his are extra padded. And, hence, my dislike for Mr. Fleetwood's current behavior.

Exactly.

When I met various members of Guided by Voices in 2007, it was at an all-day party at a private picnic ground here in Dayton. Keep in mind GbV broke up in 2004, and Bob Pollard quit touring extensively a few months earlier. So, this was a big deal. It was $40, which included food and unlimited booze (and that's a lot of booze with that crowd). It would be akin to a Fleetwood Mac fest with most of the attendees coming from the Ledge. There was a cover band made up of guys from the board, but GbV snuck in a brief unofficial reunion. It was a big day in my life, and I've made a lot of new friends that day, including a few guys from GbV. I guess that's why this thing Mick is doing seems so tacky to me.

One of the bands I follow closely do meet and greets prior to every show, and have been doing so for years. They randomly choose 6-10 fan club members and notify them by email about two weeks before the show that they have won the meet and greet. It's totally free. I was chosen fairly recently, and the M&G included at least five minutes of just mingling with the band, they signed an item of our choice and then we got a group photo with them. We also got early entry to the venue (it was GA) so that we were able to choose the spot of our choice before the house opened. Granted, this isn't a band that's been around for as long as FM, and doesn't have the fame level, but they do have a very dedicated and present fanbase and the way they do M&Gs really shows that they appreciate that. For me, it sets a high standard for how these type of things go.

That's too cool  I have bought the packages before but definitely can't afford it this time around.... and the prices have doubled from last time.....

Once again--I paid $250 to meet Tesla...... which included soundcheck, goody bag, autographs, pictures, hang time, first entrance into venue (GA) so we could be up front, and they allow pictures and recording of their shows..... they even have a photo gallery on their official website for you to post your photos to...... and they actually take the time to greet you and talk with you--not just here snap a picture you're done.....

I would love more than anything to do the package deal this time but I have to agree the price is way too steep this time..... now if you got to meet the whole band I would rethink it........ not that I wouldn't want to meet Mick but it just seems like too much........ and I guess since I've already done it twice (minus meeting Mick) and was in front row then I'm okay not to be in the front this time....

For those that did purchase the package I hope you have a GREAT time and lots of fun :D I can't wait to hear all about it.........:blob2:

Okay... It seems like we have a generalized idea of what needs to be said to mick. I think I will walk right up and say, "The fans, in large, are unhappy with these repackages, and revisits... We need a documentary boxed set, and we need new material. Thanks for this costly opportunity and I would appreciate it if you all really rocked out 'cause we are all wondering what our money is going to give us tonight." How does that sound, friends?

He probably won't like that.

I wouldn't be rude or use a nasty tone. I think for nearly a thousand bucks I should get a moment to give some profitable, and maybe useful info. From the way it sounds, Mick likes profit and this would help. Mainly, I want him to know that I support the Mac, but that the Mac should also support us.

Honestly, I think the most important thing is recommending a direction for a new album. I might say: "Hey, babe, loved your work on that Dido track. Eno and the Mac would make a great sound, don't you think?" *nudge nudge* or "Hey, babe, did you hear that playwright Ben Kessler said that 'Timbaland is the one producer to emerge since Rumours who is as attentive and sensitive to drum-sound as you are'?" *hint hint*

I just want to thank him for all the great jams and encourage some items that will recharge the fans. Honestly, I can't wait just to throw an idea or two in his direction as it relates to new albums or documentaries/concerts that need to be revisited.

Given the terrible work that Timbaland has done with another rock artist recently, Chris Cornell, I think I would cry, literally weep tears, if I heard he was working with the Mac.

I am certain that he meant that to be ironic.

I think most important thing to say is that the entire band needs to fly to England and have a sit down with Christine, drag her out of her house, and tell her she's gonna have to be on the road for 3 months and then make one final album with them.

That's a really good idea. I agree.

Given the terrible work that Timbaland has done with another rock artist recently, Chris Cornell, I think I would cry, literally weep tears, if I heard he was working with the Mac.

I didn't like that either and I hated the Duran Duran song too and the Madonna song was putrid, so I'm not saying he's always great -- but then again those are all sucky artists to begin with -- but Timbaland's own Shock Value album was magnificent and its excursions into rock tell me: he's gotta work with the Mac! (I would continue to praise Timba through his work on the JT album FutureSex/LoveSounds and Aaliyah and Missy's Under Construction -- four of the decade's verys best albums -- and countless tracks for other artists). I think Ben Kessler's thoughts were seriously felt and expressed and, for me, insightful. Maybe Mick would feel the same, maybe not. Whatever your feelings, no reason to weep. I wouldn't even weep if Sheryl Crow were producing. . .

:)

I am certain that he meant that to be ironic.

Assuming that this comment was referring to my desire to have Timba produce the next Mac album, allow me to be clear: I was not being ironic. Next time, feel free to ask if I'm being ironic or not.

Another producer I would LOOOOVE them to work with is Rhett Davies, whose Dylanesque album with Bryan Ferry is, to my ears, the best-produced album of the decade (though not EVEN my favorite Ferry album). And i'm not being ironic in suggesting that.

ETA: OMG I totally forgot the most obvious recommendation: hey mick, maybe u can get christine back by having her nephew, Dan Perfect, produce with Ken Caillat!! They did a fine job on In The Meantime.

Actually, I'd like to hear them work with Rob Schnapf. His work on GbV's Isolation Drills (http://www.amazon.com/Isolation-Drills-Guided-Voices/dp/B00005ABFM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1230000303&sr=8-1) was amazing. It was just a great big sounding album rock album. Check out Fair Touching, Chasing Heather Crazy, Twilight Campfire, and Glad Girls.

Dan proved himself a wondrous songwriter on two songs (Calumny and Northern Star) and he produced those very nicely, but I thought his overall production led a lot to be desired. Bad Journey still makes me cringe. I don't want him anywhere near the Mac -- or Aunt Christine, for that matter. But Ken Caillat, yes indeed!
