Every day I'm overwhelmed by people sending "a little piece of green," or kidnap requests, or a vampire is biting you or "join my cause." I get about 30 of these a day. It's possible to block all of this stuff, but then you just come off as a too-cool-for-school sourpuss.
I did join the Stevie Nicks is My Fairy Godmother, but all the Stevie/FM groups are essentially The Ledge with training wheels. There's no incentive to check out what's happening with the group or conversation., etc. Most of the posts are "I love Stevie! And so does my m0m! Stand Back rocks! Do you love Stevie as much as ME? I bet you don't!!!!!!!! LOL

You know, I joined Facebook a couple months ago. The purpose was to try and track down old friends, classmates, etc. and I was amazed how many people I was able to get in touch with! Some of these people I hadn't seen or talked to in over 30 years. Scattered out all over the place. It was interesting to see what they looked like, how they were doing - all that stuff.

But I noticed an interesting thing- once you've made contact and caught up on bio's, there's really no purpose to communicate anymore. The curiosity is satisfied, so everyone just kind of goes away. The memories that were shared in the past are just that - past memories. Other than that there is nothing in common. Kind of sad actually.

Weird note- Dan Fogelberg's "auld ang syne (sp)" is playing on the radio right. Too much:shocked:

Yes! I just deleted all of the application stuff off my facebook page. Was over hatching eggs, virtual pets and getting plants or fish sent to me!

I don't even really communicate with any of the "friends" I have on there except occasionally the people who are really friends in real life. I only really use facebook to post in groups etc. (oh yeah and to stalk people :laugh:)

Interestingly, I have not had this experience at all. I have been exchanging lengthy e-mails with some very old friends and making plans to get together. Now, whether or not this will actually HAPPEN is another story, I know. I was just found by an old middle school friend today- she is an Ob/Gyn who is married to a neurosurgeon- whoa!

But it is fun to reconnect with some old friends, though I have to say there were some startling reconnections when I first signed on, and indeed, after the curiosity is abated it sort of slips away. Other reconnections seem to be lasting. So, it's a mixed bag.

Yes, exactly. I lived in one area of New York until 8th grade, then moved to another area for JR/SR high school. So, not only am I reconnecting with HS people, but elementary school people as well. SO weird. To see the faces, in some cases 30 years later, is startling.

I can sympathize with your friend. I added a few coworkers that are OK but I'm afraid that others might want to add me. I don't want to add them. I don't want them to know my business especially if there is something about work i'd like to rant about. I could block them but what if they end up finding out? More drama I don't need.
I wouldn't delete my account but still it was nice just having my Internet buddies and real "friends" on FB. Now I get nervous when I see any requests hoping it's not one of them.

I also remind friends, when taking trips, vacations, etc, best to discuss AFTER the fact rather than give a play-by-play of when leaving, how long gone, etc... people set themselves up for crimes daily.

I did this myself the other day. Mostly cause I keep getting these weird link msgs from people I don't really know, and it seems to be my FB Stevie community. I tried to send a link to all to let them know. Thankfully (so far) received no hate mail....but the day is young. lol. I did this myself the other day. Mostly cause I keep getting these weird link msgs from people I don't really know, and it seems to be my FB Stevie community. I tried to send a link to all to let them know. Thankfully (so far) received no hate mail....but the day is young. lol. SO much has changed here on Ledge, so some people have friended me that I knew on the Ledge when I was posting somewhat regularly, but they friend me, and I'm like "who?!" I feel aweful. What a crappy pal to have on FB. lol Still, anyone else getting weird link/virus issues in July????

Funny that you say that cause I got a virus on my computer the night of Aug. 4th while on the ledge when we were all on getting setlist updates!

I actually deleted a bunch of people today, too. For one, it became really difficult to keep track of people's real names versus their Ledge names, so I just wanted to simplify my Facebook page.

Yep I know how you feel, I'm about to delete pretty much everyone off my facebook page unless I actually know them in real life. That might not leave me with many :lol:

This is like Twitter. Everyone is so concerned with having multiple followers. Me, IDGAF. I only accept followers if I approve of their outgoing tweets. Some looney bins have tried but I rejected their requests to follow me.
