LOS ANGELES, Dec 03, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Legendary supergroup Fleetwood Mac will be embarking on their first concert tour in five years on March 1st at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena and will include all the Mac's many greatest hits from over the course of one of rock's most enduring and influential bands of our time.
"We love our band and think the title of the tour "UNLEASHED" perfectly describes how we all feel when we get on stage together -- especially in 2009. We're so happy to get back out on the road, perform everyone's favorite songs and see our fans," said the band in a joint statement.
Tickets for the Live Nation produced tour go on sale to the public on December 15th at http://www.LiveNation.com and ticketmaster.com. American Express Cardmembers will have early access to tickets beginning December 8th at 10am local time through December 14th at 10pm local time at http://www.ticketmaster.com, excluding Uncasville, Ottawa and Montreal. American Express presale tickets for the Albany, NY show are available at http://www.tickets.com
The first 16 dates of the historic "UNLEASHED" tour will include stops in New York, Boston, Washington and Montreal, it was confirmed today by Live Nation, the tour's national promoter (tour dates listed below). Fleetwood Mac, the multi-Grammy (R) award winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will continue the "UNLEASHED" tour throughout the Spring and Summer. Additional dates to be announced shortly.
In other great Fleetwood Mac news, the iconographic 'RUMOURS' CD (certified Diamond (R) signifying sales of over 10 million units by the RIAA) is scheduled to be re-released as part of a special CD/DVD boxed set on Reprise Records in conjunction with the tour dates. The boxed set will include previously unreleased tracks recorded during the making of 'RUMOURS' as well as a DVD component with never before seen footage of the band.
I Love All Access to provide a variety of VIP packages for the tour including premium seats.

What else is there as far as unreleased tracks? I don't want another version of Mick The Screecher. I'd rather have some Mirage outtakes. As for the DVD portion, I'm expecting a nice upgrade of a lot of the stuff that's already floating around out there in the trade community.

I Love All Access to provide a variety of VIP packages for the tour including premium seats.

Thanks goodness they've decided not to fiddle with the fukcing fan club for this again and have put in in the hands of the experienced. It's going to be expensive though.

Announcing Fleetwood Mac
Wednesday, Dec 3, 2008 11:45AM

We knew a big tour announcement was coming but we didn't know what it was until now. Ready? Fleetwood Mac.

The supergroup has reunited - again - and is launching its tour at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena March 1. The tour coincides with a new greatest hits compilation called Unleashed that contains never before seen footage and previously unreleased tracks.

"We love our band and think the title of the tour, 'Unleashed,' perfectly describes how we all feel when we get on stage together, especially in 2009," the band said in a joint statement. ""We're so happy to get back out on the road, perform everyone's favorite songs and see our fans."

The statement does not list the members, but it's assumed Fleetwood Mac is certainly the famed roll call of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Christine McVie left the group in 1997 and her name isn't mentioned in the release.

Tickets for the Live Nation-produced tour go on sale Dec. 15. Dates include Chicago, Detroit, Washington D.C., Boston, New York, Montreal and Toronto. The jaunt is so far booked through March 26.

3 dates in the New York metro and none in Philadelphia?

Its just the first batch of dates. Philly will probably be in early April after they come back down from Canada (three concerts in three days? that very well might be a typo) and work their way back west again.

I'm going to chime in with the LOL's over the "Unleashed" tour name. Pretty lame and uninspired.

MacMan

none in Philadelphia?

Yet.

This is all pretty exciting... Man, I was just getting into the downtime with nobody on tour...

Yes, it's close Gerald, but hopefully it goes all through Summer... I wanna see at least one of the shows - I'm hopeing they add Vancouver.

You can't call your new tour "Unleashed" and then reissue Rumours for the
30th time in the very same press release. These people are psychotic.

Unleashed implies you are breaking out with renewed vigor and intention. Nothing's holding you back. Quite frankly, they should have called it Leashed. Heeled. Tranquilized.

But yeah, I'll be picking up tickets. No doubt about that.:blob2:

Hmm good point. I'm just not very turned on by the idea of traveling to see a band that plays the same setlist every night. But I guess it'll eventually happen here. It's too big of a market to ignore.

No kidding. According to the Washington DC Ticketmaster listing, the official name of the tour is "Fleetwood Mac Unleashed: Hits Tour 2009"

I went to 7 shows in 03-04- only one for me this time around. With the ILAA VIP packages, its going to be impossible to get a decent seat for under $500. Say what you want about the fan club, but at least they offered premium tickets (including front row center- I still can't believe that they did that) to fans for what amounted to a ~$50 surcharge.

Hits tour. That's revolting:distress:.

Unleashed from the nursing home, but returning there very shortly.

Oh, well. No matter what, I cannot deny that I am excited to see them again. I wuv them. I am willing to pay for the VIP package if I can get good tickets without a lot of hassle. I am excited. Quite truthfully, March is a little soon for me, but I'll take what I can get!:]

Those tour dates are retarded. I hope they're adding more. I wish concert promoters/whatever would realize that PEOPLE LIVE IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN CANADA. Not everyone in this f'ing country lives in Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa. I can't afford to fly out to Ontario just to see a concert, and I'm sure others are just the same way.

Yeah, I know more are going to be released, but it would be nice if they could play in Saskatoon/Regina SK or Calgary/Edmonton AB. tbh, I think quite a few people would take up the chance to see FM, especially if it's a "hits" tour.

While that might technically be the case, practically speaking, its not- especially when you consider that the first 30 rows (or at least 10-15% of the house) are going to be $250-$500+ with the VIP packages.

I'm sure I'll hit a show or 2 when they come to Texas, but that's it. Unless the set list includes every Stevie song from Tusk, "Green Manalishi" (complete with Stevie's wailing), at least two songs from B/N and 5 more never-before-played songs from Tusk.

Ooh I cant wait, I live so close to Mellon Arena I can see it from my deck! I wouldnt bother with the VIP stuff to get good seats just wait until 1-2 weeks before the show and then you will find them on ticketmaster. I got 7th row last time fleetwood mac came here and then when my hubby and I went to Toronto to see them I got 2nd row from TM 2 days before the show. I do this for every single show I go to and never got further back than about 10-15 rows at the most.

are we positive that the first show is in pittsburgh? i continue to regret not flying around for the first shows for SYW and i don't intend to miss this one, even if it is a greatest hits tour. and any excuse to get back to my hometown is a good one.

The Starlake! (Okay, they renamed it to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pavilion, but I refuse to call it that - it's the STARLAKE.) I love the Starlake, have seen so many great shows there. The CIVIC (quit renaming things, Pittsburgh, pfft, Mellon) Arena/Igloo is a great venue, too, though - I saw my very first concert there back in high school.

So I will totally be there in Pittsburgh, and will likely hit the Toronto show, too. Yay! Anyone want to carpool? ;)

Those prices are not out of line with the market. However, the market likely will be worse by next March. Concerts are things that can get cut. They likely may have to cut those top level ones to $125 or less. But, correct me if I am wrong, but they are cheaper than the highest priced ones on the SYW tour, which I think were $180 to $200.

the prices would be around the usual amount (I didn't look up the prices online) and at this juncture I havent decided if I want to see FM again...I wouldnt mind seeing my fellow Ledgies though (As I have done in the past in Dallas and OKC), but it will be weird doing the concert tripping without Debbie being at my side :( as many a Ledgie had met her in the past.

On the good side, Tulsa has the BOK Arena and OKC's Ford Center makes for a double show jaunt if I get back into the groove of things

Gonna need to get my ass in gear to prepare for the bootlegs that will appear from this tour...but this time I have newer equipment so this could be very fun.

I'm excited about this, just to have the chance to see the band. Not sure what my plan of action should be though. I really like Mohegan Sun as a venue, so even though it's not my neighborhood show (MSG), I'm thinking that will be my priority and I can decide later if I want to add MSG on. After seeing Lindsey this fall and being SO close he was sweating on me at one point, nothing's really going to compare anyway. Very excited to see the band, don't get me wrong, but the urge to go multiple times even with them hitting up quite a few venues in my area isn't all there. Yet, anyway.

ticket prices are on Ticketmaster. They are around US $47.50 to $149.50, depending on the date.

Too little too late. They should have gone out last year. Instead of going out with a bang these guys will end their touring days with an embarrassing whimper. They're not going to fill arenas at those prices. Not this spring. Not in this economy. Not with nothing new to offer. Rumours rehash #44 ? Only die hards will pay to see these old war horses beating that dead horse. :sorry:

Those tour dates are retarded. I hope they're adding more. I wish concert promoters/whatever would realize that PEOPLE LIVE IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN CANADA. Not everyone in this f'ing country lives in Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa. I can't afford to fly out to Ontario just to see a concert, and I'm sure others are just the same way.

Who knew?

From Billboard:

<i>"Lindsey Buckingham on the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour, which kicks off Mar. 1 in Pittsburgh: "If I knew what to expect, I would tell you. It's been a little convoluted emotionally. We have some work to do." Only 16 dates have been announced so far, but Buckingham said there would be about 40 in the U.S. As to who might put out a Fleetwood Mac album after the tour, Buckingham said nothing was set in stone, but that "we have a strong relationship with Warner Bros."</i>

This is awseome news. I'm glad the tour is starting in March. The fact that its starting sooner means it will end sooner and in theory means they'll start working on a new album sooner.

I will without question be at the Rochester show, but am also considering maybe trying to be at opening night for the first time in my life and finding a way to be in Pittsburgh.

It's weird my excitment level for this tour has increased a 100 percent with the announcment of the dates.

Re-releasing something we've bought at least three times over is so over doing it. I am just not a happy camper at the moment as this was not a good time for these tickets to go on sale....right before Christmas, come on, the unfairness of it all. I might not be doing any shows this time around :(

Unless they radically change their set list (and their 10 support players) and surprise us with new songs, cover songs and album tracks never performed before, naming the tour UNLEASHED is so dubious and senseless. Who the hell thought that was the best name?? I suspect not any band member, but one of their great (not-so) marketing/PR people.

FLEETWOOD MAC The Redundant Tour...because we are too lazy to release anything truely new and it's so much easier to make money by just re-unleashing the same thing we've been living off for 30 thirty years.

Well, first I was excited and went into Tour Overdrive mode, plotting my traveling arrangements.
But, the timing does suck. First, I've been ultra-careful this year with Christmas, planning everything so I would have enough money in a MONTH or so to do FM without too much of a burden on the credit cards. That plan flew out the window.
Then, touring in the Northeast during the tail end of the winter-beginning of the spring means bad weather is still a huge possibility. So, I hardly want to buy tickets to somewhere four hours away and then hit a blizzard in one city or another.
And, of course, the whole Rumours thing puts me to sleep. As will the promotion of it, I'm sure. Yada, yada...we can ALL tell these stories in our sleep by now.
So, this morning, I'm definitely having mixed feelings about it. I'm in NY, and will do the two NY dates but doubt I'll do Boston or Washington, DC, which I probably would have done in a second in the LATE spring or summer.
Will it sell for the casual, nostalgic-hungry fan? Probably more, sad to say, than new stuff would.

I doubt it will be 'rare footage' that noone has not been able to obtain via trades/eBay/torrents/etc.

In the very recent past, I've seen major artists obtain 'rare footage' from hardcore fans to release upon a DVD - and even then the footage is NOT cleaned up and processed for final release...Looks just like a bad VHS to DVD transfer, 'Warts and all'.

So on that front, I am NOT getting my hopes up at all, I will await to after the re-re-re-re-re-release of "Rumours" to hear reviews of this footage before I think about a purchase.

If I recall, they only offered 2 pairs in the front row per show. Soooo many people go screwed by the fanclub - I know everyone can't get front row, but to pay extra for that package & end up with 8th or 9th row, then find TM seats in the 2nd or 3rd row later? F that.

Anyway, it's high time they released "Rumours" again. They ought to be ashamed of themselves, waiting four whole years.

Ba-da-bump, ching!

And it looks like my prediction came true. Seems that the top ticket will be $150 or less, not that that's exactly "Free" but they're smart enough not to charge totally outrageous prices like THe Eagles, Stones ETC.

I still think it's pretty damn outrageous. Am I supposed to be thankful that the prices didn't go up too much from 5 years ago? Well I'm not.

Well, the dates are interfering with the Britney tour.:D

Of course they would start in Pittsburgh, since I've moved from there. I'll probably see them at MSG and maybe Jersey.....since I do live in NYC now. woot.

You whore! Since when?!

^The more I visit this site, the more I miss the memories I've made with Ledgies. It all seems so long ago....

Will 2009 be the Ledgie Reunion Tour?

Only if you wear the pink hoodie.

Where were they $200 for SYW? Top price I recall was $150 for the A.C. show - were NYC or LA higher?

Too little too late. They should have gone out last year. Instead of going out with a bang these guys will end their touring days with an embarrassing whimper. They're not going to fill arenas at those prices. Not this spring. Not in this economy. Not with nothing new to offer. Rumours rehash #44 ? Don't apologize. You're not alone in thinking that way. They ****ed up by dragging the SYW tour on waaaaaaayyyy too long & not being able to pull together an anniversary tour in '07 because it would have been too soon. HUGE opportunity that was missed, IMO.

Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!! Can't wait. I bet Stevie does Sisters. : - ) It will be interesting to see what they consider to be hits besides the obvious. I mean can they do an entire 2 hour show with "hits" only? (excluding Chris songs)

If she does SOTM, I will go to a show for sure. If not, I will have to think about it. Seriously. This from the girl that made it to 5 shows for SYW, and 4 Stevie shows in '05 including Vegas. I just can't do it anymore - I don't have the desire, or the time, or the money. They need to make it worth my while, and I've been disappointed too many times not to be gunshy this time around.

According to most of the press articles, that is what they are releasing.

I have a feeling that this release is going to be much more than just a Rumours re-issue. Everyone said that Stevie's Crystal Visions DVD was going to be footage that was already circulating, but in fact, it wasn't, and everyone was very pleased with it. So i'm not going to be too excited or too disappointed until more details are released.

I havn't posted on the ledge in years...probably almost a decade. I signed up for the ledge since I became a fan in middle school right after the dance tour - sometime in 1998. I've been lurking ever since though, so I havn't missed a beat.

I just thought i'd chime in on this. I saw two shows on the SYW tour (buffalo and cleveland) and I caught lindsey in the fall at the HOB in Cleveland as well.

I think they are over the hill NUTS to think they are going to sell enough tickets in the upper price bracket to make this tour even remotely profitable. Not in this economy, no way. Especially in some of the markets they are playing. NYC metro and surrounding areas, sure those will probably be ok. But Rochester...Detroit....Albany....Pittsburgh!? They had trouble moving the 125.00 seats in buffalo four years ago.....now 150.00 in ra ra rochester? Dream on. I don't know - but i'm predicting some major back peddling. Plus who are they kidding - EVERY tour is a hits tour, sure they sprinkled in 3-5 new songs but then they cut them out within the first month of the tour. Sara and Beautiful Child don't count - the lightbulb in their heads to cover those should of gone off freakin decades ago..those should remain staples.

I know im totally preaching to the choir here and im definitely not suprised by this, I just though it would really be more efficient to lower the prices across the board so they can actually sell out these dates or at least get 95% capacity crowds.

I'm just amazed they all probably sat at a meeting and looked at each other and thought that many people were going to fork over 150.00 for a ticket, nevermind the lucritive all access deal for a 500.00 totebag and a laminated fake backstage pass look-alike? It's horse dong. I wonder if the band even knows themselves how much tickets are for this tour. Do they even know!?

I hope to see them on this tour...and I did pay for good seats in 04....but im going to have to be in the cheaper seats this time....and im not bitter about that and thats not why I've said what i've said. I just think they are crazy.

Well, since my copies are copies of copies, I guess even having that crisp and clear would be something to cheer about.

But since Crystal Visions was mentioned, I have to say if FM put their videos on DVD like Stevie did that would be worth the price of the CD/DVD and the concert, all by itself. And if they added audio commentary to their videos like Stevie did, as funny as they can be, that would be priceless.

trust me on that I spent a few days (A few years back) transferring VHS tapes to DVD for a well-like "Ledgie", his collection of footage was the BEST footage I have seen in all the years of trading for FM material.

If the footage that is to be released is similar to that I transferred I think most will be very happy with the results.

You totally nailed my thoughts here too. I was so excited at the thought of getting to see them again, I was planning a NYC trip in March anyway. Being able to combine a Mac show with my Manhattan trip is a dream come true. All that excitement totally melted into anger once I read the ticket price range though. It's beyond absurd, especially in this economy, and with no new material to tour behind. These guys must have the same damn idiot PR people as the big 3 automakers. Ditto what BigAl84 said.

Who knows what the economic health of the country will be in March/April? Will people still be paying off their credit cards from Christmas?

I work in a town of about 50,000. I get about 5-6 people a day dropping off resumes seeking a job because they've been laid off. The local task force solitics food dontations because the shelves are dangerously low.

But what do I know? I thought people would stay home on Black Friday....and instead it was the same shark feeding frenzy. Maybe a Mac tour will have the same response....

I'm going to disagree here a bit.

Granted, I don't want to pay those prices either. But, it's not an outrageous rate for big-named acts, even in this economy. And, die-hard fans like us want the new stuff. I don't think most casual fans do. They do want Rumours on perpetual repeat. It's what made them fans, and what keeps them fans and allows them to remember their glory days. I really think that's absolutely true, so I don't even think the marketing is all that bad. It's a bit nauseating, to me, because I could totally do without even one song from Rumours, but not to the general public.

And I did a little trek through ticketmaster out of curiosity:

The Eagles are charging $185 as their top price (multiple venues). I think I actually paid $195 when they hit NY last year.

I just went over and did a search for the Mellon arena in Pittsburgh.
Britney Spears (yikes!) is charging $125 for her top ticket in the "regular" arena but is offering packages up to $600!

Neil Diamond--Worcester, MA--$120.

Neil Young-Auburn, MI-$178

Go to any Broadway play in NY and you pay $125 and up per ticket.

Yeah, there are a few acts (Metallica) who charge about $89 for the top ticket but they are pretty rare.

It's not right. Prices are awful, but I actually really didn't expect it to be any cheaper. It's the going rate and the Mac are in this for the money. They aren't even pretending to be in it for much else this time (well, not yet, anyway). I think they'll get it. If not, the 16 shows may be a wake up call, or a "put the old girl down" call. What I am pretty sure of is that it's a "trial balloon" and what happens during these shows will determine the course of the rest of the tour (if there even is one).

Yeah, there are a few acts (Metallica) who charge about $89 for the top ticket but they are pretty rare.

Metallica is that for the buck one gets multiple acts (Currently Lamb of God and The Sword) and Metallica for about 2 hours, and of course you get the audio version of the show you attended from the code you are presented when one purchases a ticket for the current tour (via <a href="http://www.livemetallica.com/default.aspx">LiveMetallica.com</a> )

The current Metallica is doing very well, even with the current economical issues at hand. Maybe Mick & company could learn a thing or two from 'em (How about a "liveFleetwoodMac.com"????)

I feel a large scale tour will flop, especially in certain larger cities where the Mac have played in the recent past, due saturation of the market. If they were to play places they had rarely played in the past they may be somewhat successful (OKC 2003 outdrew Dallas 2003...More vocal and APPRECIATIVE crowd and a better ticket-turnout) with a lower ticket price and a few support acts.

'Wingin' it' (No support acts) on their own doesnt look healthy nor intelligent at this time, and if the online reports of the setlist show the usual 'suspects' (ie - "Dreams" & "Rhiannon") then I am sure most will say "forgettaboutit" and stay home and download bootleg copies instead.

Yes, exactly. The shows that were announced (with just a few exceptions) are all in pretty large markets in regions where they are somewhat more popular than most others. They are testing this price point in these reliable markets to gauge what to do in the future. If several of these shows tank, I don't think it will be the end of the tour (too many lucrative California dates left), but there will be a need for an adjustment to their g'tee, which will be reflected in the ticket prices.

But, yeah, some of these markets... I don't know. I'd be shocked if Rochester can do 10K paid (on a Monday night- yeesh), especially if 40% of the house are $130 tickets.

I would much rather see FM in OKC than Dallas. I'm remembering seeing Keith there with you and Debbie, Brian. The crowd was so intense and amazing. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. We might come on up and see ya again. :)

Oh and I'm in the Pfftt Crowd that's not happy about ANY of this really. Bad timing, I would rather see Lindsey solo, no new music for the tour and I'm planning another trip to London next year, so....yeah. Pfftt. I might see them once in OKC or Dallas if that doesn't work out. We'll see.

Yes. They started with one, and added the other after the first show was 90%+ sold out after the first day of public on-sale. Look for the same thing to happen this time, unless the first show tanks so bad they won't be able to justify it (something I highly doubt will happen).

Yes, it would be nice- but, speaking from experience, its usually death for a promoter to put a major event (let alone an entire tour) on sale shortly after the holidays, as everyone's too mindful about how much money they spent to even think about spending more.

Plus, this way, Fleetwood Mac has an extra month to collect interest on the money they'll be holding ;)

The ticket brokers already have a ton of Mac tickets up for sale.
Stubhub is selling front row and close seats for outrageous prices which is funny to me when you can get these seats just by being patient using ticketmaster.

Good points. Let us keep our fingers crossed. Still I do feel a bit let down by the fact that they are not rereleasing Mirage and Tango. Surely they are aware of the many problems with Mirage?

Who knows... but it just occurred to me that maybe the Rumours with extra tracks is really just a repackage of the 2004 release, the one with the extras already, except this one will include a DVD... I mean the 2004 double disc release wasn't a massive seller so it's pretty much unknown to the general population.

I have lost track of all the reissues of Rumours and all their greatest hits rehashed stuff. I bought the box set way back in 96 when it came out and paid a lot for it and am still very happy with that set. I have not bought any of their subsequent "greatist hits" stuff.

I have this maniacle obsession with them not reworking Mirage. I feel like it is a slap in the fans face. I mean they are suppose to be this band who demands only the best yet they released that badly recorded work. Go figure.

I think all the first presales are American Express presales.
You MUST pay with an Amex card.

The password can be found on the net usually a day or so before the presale.

Holy crap. I was going to go to Mohegan Sun instead of MSG, but maybe not! Granted, I did just pay $90 to sit in the second to last row there for New Kids on the Block...

Is it awful of me constantly be thinking how I was five feet from Lindsey for almost a third of the price this fall? Cuz I am.

The boxed set will include previously unreleased tracks recorded during the making of 'RUMOURS' as well as a DVD component with never before seen footage of the band.

Rumours is my favorite album but, PLEASE! no more Rumours re-editions! How many bonus tracks, unreleased songs, etc.. they have from that year?? Fleetwood Mac is not only Rumours. Is Tango, Mirage, Tusk, not to mention the pre and post lineups!

The DVD sounds interesting, but I hope is not the same material from Two sticks and a drum, and the Making of Rumours dvd.. I would like more a complete anthology dvd of the band

I don't think Mirage was poorly recorded at all. I had it on cassette tape back in the day as well as vinyl and it sounded great. For whatever reason, the transfer to CD did not turn out so well. That's why it's such a crime for it to be overlooked in all this repackaging/remastering stuff.

No doubt ..Mirage on vinyl souunds as good as any other Rumours era Fleetwood Mac album .The CD is in desperate need of remastering ..ditto for Bella Donna ..these were both number one albums! So not sure what is up with that.

"Unleashed?" How about "Beat a Dead Horse" tour?

Same crappy set list, same crappy venues and cities, same outrageous prices. I doubt in this economy that many of the top priced tickets will move. I do think if the $50.00 range tickets are not that bad that they will go rather quickly. I do have a friend that wants to see a show but she just doesn’t have the $ for the top tickets. I think that many people are in the same boat.
I still can’t figure out why there isn’t a Providence date. Not just for Fleetwood Mac but for other bands like Motley Crue who seem to overlook this market.

I will trying for the $125 ticket i would love the $200 ticket but its not in my budget and I am sure the vip tickets from all access are going to be in the $400-$600 range and that does not include a meet and greet with all access they would state it in the packages that if it was a meet and greet and no meet greet a dinner and drinks pre show party that is close its going to get you think they are going to be at the dinner. I do have to say really bad timing for the tickets to go on sale but i will do my best to get a ticket to the show if i have to go to new york or boston because its cheaper will do boston and NYC are not that long of ride for me so no problem there. just hope they dont sell out right away just so i can save up on some extra cash to go to this last tour of theres. just hope stevie will do another solo tour before she throws in her shawl.

They really need to do remastered releases of Mirage, TITN, and BTM. I don't get why they don't. Lesser known bands who have way lower sales figures do it all the time - rerelease their entire body of work remastered. I do not have a clue why Mac doesn't do the same, and don't get me started on La Nicks.

I think much of this has to do with the promoters. For some reason, only certain bands come through Buffalo - Stevie never comes here solo for example, but she always goes to Pittburgh & Cleveland. I am a bit perplexed by the Mac Rochester date, but no Buffalo. Mac has hit Buffalo every single tour since 1977 (maybe not Mirage? I'd have to look it up.) Maybe cuz it's in March & hockey's still going on? I dunno.

And the more I think about it, the more I think Mac is fooling themselves. They filled arenas in '97 because there was SO much excitement that those 5 members were touring together for the first time in 15 years. They did pretty well in '03/'04 because there was new material for people to want to hear, and because they hit many markets that were missed in '97. What is there for casual fans to get excited about this time?

David
12-05-2008, 11:28 AM
I think they are over the hill NUTS to think they are going to sell enough tickets in the upper price bracket to make this tour even remotely profitable. Not in this economy, no way. Hello, Al! I remember you! Remember those great circus pics you took & shared with us? Anyway, there's something else building & building in the economic markets these days that is new to the recent scene: Consumers are often irresponsible & spend money they don't have by putting their purchases on credit & then paying down that credit in the up & up (or the Never-Never). But worldwide credit markets are shrunken & banks & credit card issuers aren't extending the credit limits with abandon, to put it mildly. I don't know how the entertainment industry in general will fare throughout '09, but I can't help thinking that it will hurt -- just like every other industry. Fans Joe & Jane may want to see Fleetwood Mac for a few nights (for $130 a pop), but they may not be able to squeeze such a purchase onto their already grossly overleveraged credit card balances. Open your credit card statements, folks, & read the fine print. Your limit may have been lowered.

I don't get it either. Springsteen played Rochester and Buffalo this year so maybe a Buffalo date will get added later but I doubt it. Springsteen can draw more fans than the Mac at this point and could get away with the two shows. Stevie I believe played in Buffalo in 1983. I believe the Mac has missed Buffalo a few times since '77 - they played Tusk here in 1980, and if I'm not mistaken, didn't come back until The Dance (and then of course for Say You Will). The Mirage Tour didn't come this way and I'm fairly certain the Rick and Billy years didn't come here either. Maybe during the Time era they got here somewhere but I can't recall.

I'm definitley annoyed about no Buffalo show. When they played in '97 they were the fastest selling event in the Arena's history (okay, so it was barely open a year at that point but still....) and I believe they had a sell out here in '03. Oh well, I am planning on show #1 in Pittsburgh instead.

Edit - can't be because of hockey. I've been to concerts at the arena in March (in fact I saw Springsteen there last March). Must be a stupid promoter leaving B-lo off the MacMap.

Totally agreed. They are their own worst enemies with so many decisions over the years. Songs like "If You Were My Love" or "Smile at You", which seem to be beloved by fans in demo form, are shelved permanently or show up many years too late in unrecognizable form. There's a lot of others too, those are just the first two Stevie tunes that come to mind.

As far as a live band, the Mac, from what I've read in other band's discussion boards, are very well respected. I think a lot of people have always been pleasantly surprised that a pop/rock band, with such produced and polished studio work, can put on such a loud, rocking, raw performance. But then again, to the fans who see the band on every tour (or multiple times on each tour), they really don't try to offer anything new or push themselves too much. And it's not age either, they've been doing this for years.

When it comes to the setlist, really, has Fleetwood Mac in the 75-90,97-present form really ever changed things up? A few new songs here and there and the random "lost track" (Beautiful Child, Silver Springs, revised versions of SYLM and Big Love, etc). It's frustrating because with some imagination and risk, I tend to think the Mac could put on an even better show than they already do (and let's face it, they do put on a great show). For some reason it took about 20 years to bring Sara back to life because it was hard to recreate live? Oh come on - you could do it from 79-82 with five people on stage and you mean to tell me that you couldn't put something together with the entourage that has taken the stage over since 87? Lindsey has slowly brought some more Tusk songs into the set, but there's more - where is The Ledge, WMYTYTO, That's All for Everyone, etc?

We should take bets on what the first song will be in Pittsburgh. Seriously, as awesome as it is to hear The Chain, I might just have to scream at someone if they open with that song yet one more time!

Okay - rant over. I'm a fan of this band and I will see them next year...I just think they are not maximizing their potential by exploring the excellent back catalog that they have at their fingerprints.

I completely agree with you. I think that while they do an amazing show, we expect (rightly) better from them. Instead of doing just an all hits concert (which they can do with their library), they could do a concert with the songs that really are dying to be done live (songs like Book of Love, WMYTYTO, The Ledge, I Don't Wanna Know and more). I would love it if they'd open with something other than the Chain, like Monday Morning. That mix and the new songs would completely change what it means to be a re-united Mac tour.

And while we're talking about demos, we are still waiting for My Little Demon and Given Thing to be released. [By the way, does anyone have demo 1 of Given Thing?]

Wow. That's a tough call.
They didn't sell out at all the last time they were there. It was a decent crowd, I guess, but not a sell-out.
But, when I went to the Eagles in May (I think?)--and I do believe they had 3 nights at the Garden, it was PACKED. So, maybe they are thinking they could do the same with the Mac. I mean, they haven't been around as a group for five years, so...maybe?
And, again, the casual fan would probably love to hear the hits.

The Eagles didn't sell out one night at the Garden last May, but each night was packed.

I'm thinking both nights will be packed. There's been quite a bit of promotion over here already.

Where would they play in AC? Boardwalk Hall?

Yup. That's where they played their first AC concert during SYW. The second one was in this outdoor venue the Borgata used to have (they don't have it anymore). And I don't remember the second place being very big, anyway.

Boardwalk Hall is nice and large.

I actually don't love MSG. Never really have, even though I've been there lots of times.

I don't really like MSG either. I much prefer Mohegan Sun and wish the pricing wasn't so much higher than MSG, but whatever. I think I'll plan on advance tickets for Mohegan Sun and see what pops up closer to the date for MSG. Boardwalk Hall is sweet, too.

They could easily do a "hits" (I really HATE that word being used for the tour) oriented show and still get in some bits of different eras and some Buckingham Nicks stuff....if you assume they do about 24 songs again...

Tusk
Dreams
Oh Well (never understood dropping this in '97)
Seven Wonders
What Makes You Think You're The One
Gold Dust Woman
Angel
Book of Love
Tango in the Night
Frozen Love
Crystal
Gypsy
Oh Daddy (Stevie on lead vocals)
Save Me a Place
Landslide
Rhiannon
Blue Letter
Hold Me (Lindsey on lead vocals)
I'm So Afraid
Everybody Finds Out
Go Your Own Way
The Chain (encore)
Sisters of the Moon (encore)
Say Goodbye (encore)

...and you could do this much easier and get even more in if there were say five slots in a set that were rotated each night. Rhiannon or Gold Dust Woman, I'm So Afraid or Come or Tango in the Night...Monday Morning or Second Hand News, and so on.

You forgot Sara. Not doing Sara would be a crime. They will have it in the set I guarantee it.

But every version of Sara after Tusk tour has been an embarrassment including and especially the solo versions. So not performing it live was one of their better decisions. I can understand her not wanting to perform it because her voice is not at all suited to the song any longer and they were not able to arrange the song differently to suit her current voice.

When they showed the Tusk version on screen while she performed it on the SYW tour only served as a reminder of how bad the current version is.

Well I guess I can't argue with you on that. Although I do think the 2004 version was decent. I had someone tell me online many years ago that the 82 and Tusk versions were essentially the same (same arrangement, etc). I couldn't help but completely disagree with that. The 79-80 versions were fantastic but something bad happened to Sara in two short years. The Mirage Tour versions stunk. And yes, the solo versions of Sara were even worse (although I would have to say I hate the solo Gypsy's from I think 1983 even more).

Agree on Gypsy. Though I think she pulled it off on the Mirage tour after a very shacky start to the song.

Maybe if she did it with just a piano?

MSG-4/1--
Seems to be a thing of the past.
I hit the link on ticketmaster, and I got the message "this event is no longer in our database."
Then I refreshed the list of all FM concerts, and 4/1 disappeared.

I guess it was early April Fool's after all. Or someone looked at the last attendance records.

Sadly, Fleetwood Mac have turned into The Eagles.

At least The Eagles had something to tour behind to charge those outrageous prices--a new double album! Fleetwood Mac is charging top dollar for rehash.

-They must have all taken a loss in the stock market and are hoping WE didn't. They need to rewatch their own DVD about why their fans wouldn't buy a "double album." Stevie explained it well, as I remember. They must have forgotten if we couldn't afford a lousy $30.00 double CD (that lasts forever), we might not be able to cover a $900 ticket for 2 hours of entertainment.

-It wouldn't seem SO outrageous if they had at least worked together and made an album. Do SOMETHING to earn the extra cash flow. You want the big bucks just because your name is "Fleetwood Mac?" Get a grip. Fame and fortune came a little too fast in the mid 70's. Most people work a lifetime for what this band wasted in a year, in a month, in a day!

-Stevie was just out on the road in June/July and Lindsey in October. Why would anyone want to pay $900 to see the same two people 'up close and personal' after seeing them less than a year ago? So we can hear Landslide, Dreams and Standback with the FM rhythm section? Seats to Lindsey's FRONT ROW seats were $50-$60 in some veneues, and he totally vamped up his set list and performed off the cuff, taking audience requests at times. Why so much for Stevie and Lindsey together? (Perhaps the extra $800 is for Mick & John. MUST BE! ;) What kind of overhead do those two guys have, anyway???)

-My ticket buying is going to depend on the first show. After I hear what the set list is, I'll decide whether this edition of Fleetwood Mac is worth my money.

Stevie played solo in Buffalo for WH, RAL & TOSOTM tours - nothing since. Mac played here for every tour from White Album through Tusk. I don't believe they came for Mirage, but that was such a short tour they seem to have missed a lot of major cities. Nothing for TITN, but for Time they did play Darien Lake. Obviously The Dance was HUGE here (you're right, it was a fast sellout - less than an hour if I recall.) No way was SYW a sellout though. It was pretty full, but not sold out.

Buffalo's a pretty small market, so I think they figure they'll cover us with Rochester & Toronto. Still, we're bigger (and better  ) than Rochester, so it does seem odd. Maybe it's cheaper to play BLue Cross arena? is that possible? I don't know much about this type of thing. Plus, I never understood why all the big names ALWAYS play Cleveland & Pittsburgh but not here, since we're all pretty similar demographically.

I guess I could maybe see the $795 price tag if you were guaranteed a seat in the first 3 rows and if it included a meet and greet. Like, maybe they attended the pre-show dinner and drink party. As it stands? No thanks. I'll play the TM game and at least know where I'm sitting when I shell out my money instead of waiting to be surprised when I show up.

Dream Theater did a tour package (Which they still do each and every tour and the price NEVER jumps above $200 per ticket) which I thought the best example of HOW a band shows their respect to their fans and their fans hard-earned $$$'s:

For about $175 a fan was guaranteed a ticket within the first 3 rows of their specific show, a limited edition holigraphic autographed ticket-stub, a limited edition lanyard to hold the ticket stub, a limited edition compact disc of unreleased material, a pre-show tour of the backstage area, a pre-show dinner with the COMPLETE band (Not the crew members but the band members themselves), attendance to the combination pre-show soundcheck & Q&A where fans could ask any question they wanted to have answered, and finally a 'One-on-one meet and greet' with the COMPLETE band and photo's/autographs with EACH band member INDIVIDUALLY.

Think FM would be capable of doing the same for around $200? If ya do I have some land on the Louisiana coastline that has NEVER been damaged by ANY hurricane I would like to sell to you!!!!

This is a bad sign for the tour. If the diehard fans here are showing restraint, how full are these big arenas going to be?

I didn't buy anything pre-sale because I didn't see anything worthy of the cost. I do plan to see two or three shows, but I'll be waiting to see what comes up and although I'd LOVE to go for a five- or four-star package, at those prices there's just no way. Gotta keep my place to live in these 20-degree temperatures.

You've heard "Rumours". Now it's confirmed that '70s superband Fleetwood Mac is touring for the first time in five years and is coming to Scotiabank Place on March 23, 2009.

And rumoured to joining Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham on their 16-date North American tour will be Grammy-Award-winning rocker Sheryl Crow.

Fleetwood Mac first hit the charts in 1969 as a British blues band with Bob Welsh but it wasn't until they recorded "Rumours" in 1977 that they became one of the top-selling bands of all time, selling more than 30 million units of "Rumours" alone.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. with doors at 7 p.m.

Fleetwood Mac tickets are $49.50-$149.50 plus service charges, on sale Monday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Scotiabank Place box-office, The Sens Store, Sports Experts, charge by phone at 613-599-FANS (3267) or online at www.capitaltickets.ca

Just saw on the iloveallaccess site that with the 5 star package you can get to meet mick fleetwood. I think thats cool that he is doing that but I would really like to meet everybody not just him. Its too bad the entire band cant be involved in some way. It says the price is 695-820 for the 5 star so I guess if you buy the package to meet Mick you have to pay the 820? Thats ridiculous. Who has that kind of cash? Not me

i hear ya on that and I think pretty much everyone else that is a die hard fan is feeling this way i would be surprised to see sell out shows at these prices at the mohegan sun show that package is $995 with out mick fleetwood meet and greet and a whopping $1120 with a meet and greet with mick fleetwood i guess they haven't watched the news about that we are going into a depression not a recession.and its 4 star package is $395 people that get that package will feel ripped off i will tell ya at those prices they will not be happy if they get that package at that price and not get front row seats if i got 5th row at those prices i would be pissed. I do want to go to this show but its just fleetwood mac on auto pilot for another tour to cash in i do think they will surprised on this tour about the low sales the casual fan will not drop that money if they die hard fans are not willing to do so. Stevie Nicks has been on auto solo pilot since 2005 just singing the hits and her shows were worth it not too expensive and I did enjoy the shows as i always do but they do need to do new material we know stevie is afraid of doing new material especially in concert. if its the hits she needs to bring out sisters of the moon, fireflys, and farmers daughter to name a few.

I for one am stoked for the tour... but only beacuse they are finally playing the Capital of Canada Ottawa. Hopefully Sevenwonders and Sara will make the cut as I have not heard them live before.

In terms of whether or not they will sell out. I think the shows in Canada are safe because they have never played Ottawa before and they last played MTL in 87. The US shows will be tougher to sell beacuse of the prices and the economy. One thing that has me curious is what happens if the I Love All Access tickets don't sell out or sell at all for a specific show? Will the tickets revert back to general sale at TM. Also does I Love All Access have holds on all the best seats in the house?

Reading the posts about Europe made me think of other destinations.

I don't know the cost of touring and the various transactions and contracts involved for overseas tours, but I have always wondered why they don't go back to Japan, since they did it in their hey day. I think that they have fans there, regardless of the language barrier. Plus, in Japan they aren't facing the economic problems that are crippling the US and the UK.

I always hear about American stars who go to Japan and make millions doing commercials there (that they would never make here, for fear of hurting their star credibility), so it seems that there's a demand for Western entertainment. If it's money they want, it doesn't seem to me they are doing everything necessary to sop up all the available dollars -- or yen. At least I don't think they did for the SYW tour. This one might be different.

This is an article complaining about the Ticketmaster surcharge.

http://www.examiner.com/x-1348-Twin-Cities-Performance-Art-Examiner~y2008m12d23-Ticketmasters-cost-of-convenience

While many ticketing services charge such extra fees, no organization is as large as Ticketmaster or as notorious for markup costs. Take, for example, the recently announced Fleetwood Mac show at the Excel Energy Center scheduled for March 3rd. Mid-level tickets have a face value of $77.50. Not a cheap seat to begin with, but you'll be paying even more if purchasing through Ticketmaster. Convenience fees for that $77.50 ticket run $10.80, adding 14% to the original cost.

From what I can recall from my vinyl copy of "Fleetwood Mac Live," where all of the dates/attendance of the Tusk tour are listed, they played very tiny theatres/arenas in Japan- like in the 2500-3500 seat range. I'm not sure if this is because they weren't popular enough to play sports arenas and stadiums, or whether they just liked playing to tiny packed venues (which certainly does not seem to be the case anymore!). If it is the former rather than the latter, my guess is that they just didn't find it justifiable monetarily to make the trek over there with all of their equipment and entourage for Mask and SYW.

High-priced summer tours

In fact, this could pretty much be any year. But a Britney Spears tour, a new U2 album and the return of No Doubt means that for those who want to see live music, 2009 isn’t going to be easy on the wallet. Looks like Fleetwood Mac may be the odd band out in this.

I was wondering why they haven't announced any dates in the southeast. This is any area that have had highly attended Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, etc. concerts. The closest they are playing so far is Washington D.C. I will be so upset if they don't come this way on this tour. Anyone have any info about this. Are they going to announce more dates?

Fleetwood Mac's tour:

I've read on The Chain that the shows on sale aren't selling.

What do you think this means for the tour? Is there a possibility they'd cancel it? Somebody said they should just play theaters, but I don't see the Fleetwood Mac goliathon doing that. Their whole shebang is geared to the arena or the amphitheater -- the massive venue with 10,000 or 15,000 people & dozens of crew putting up tons of stage gear. It's an enormous undertaking, & I don't see how it would be modified to "work" in a theater. It would be like trying to get the square peg into the triangular hole.

They're rehearsing now, aren't they? Do you think they're worried about the patchy sales?

When tickets for the Ottawa Show went on sale I was in line at 5:30 in the morning thinking there would be a long lineup. I was the only one till about 8:00 then another man was there, By the time they were on sale there were about 5-10 people. Even being first in line I only got 23 rows back in section C. Then late last week I pulled up Section B row 9.it makes me wonder how many tickets are sold or not?

This could turn out to be a costly tour for them if dates don't sell very well.

Their show is not nearly the grand production of bands like the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, KISS, etc. All FM uses are some pretty lights and a couple big screens. It could easily be scaled down to smaller venues. Whether or not their egos could be scaled down is another matter.

Bob Dylan & Cheap Trick played it in the late 1970s (both had live albums taped there).

Maybe Japan had laws at the time that required rock concerts to be held only in mid-size theaters like Budokan instead of the larger sports arenas that were the major venues in the United States back then. Then again, maybe Japan (at the time) didn't even have any indoor sports arenas. They were built in the U.S. primarily to house basketball & ice hockey games, neither of which was big in Japan.

As did Eric Clapton (his Just One Night live album is from Budokan in 1979)...and Clapton plays multiple nights there every time he tours Japan (as he will be doing next month...7 nights at Budokan; February 15, 18, 19, 24, 25, 27, & 28).

They have a new "Super Arena" in Saitama, Japan...Clapton & Jeff Beck are playing a double bill there this coming February 21st & 22nd.

Medium to large theaters would have stages big enough for FM and all their backup people. Consider all the work/performers/set design and set changes, etc. that goes into a touring Broadway play. Logistics are not the issue here, people.

They played the Chumash casino twice during the SYW tour and it had the size and aura of a high school gymnasium. It was not the Borgata or the MGM by any stretch.

They were cramped on stage. In fact, you could hardly even see the petite Jana lodged against one of the large speakers on the stage. Giggling, Sharon had to pick her up when it got to the introductions.

The sound was awful. Lindsey was very unhappy the first night -- I'm assuming because of the sound problems. But they suffered through it for the money. Doing theaters would be a step up from that.

They played the amphitheater a year into the tour, and a year after they played the local arena. That's the difference. They play the amphitheater when they can only hope to sell 6-8 thousand seats as opposed to 13-16 thousand at the arena.

He was pissy & threw a hissy fit because the audience wasn't into the show. Well, Lindsey, what did you expect when the band was offered $1M for two shows to open a casino on an Indian Reservation?

By that time, the SYW was on its last gasp anyways. It was all about making up the money they lost by canceling those handful of shed dates (Tinley Park, the other one, etc.)

He was pissy & threw a hissy fit because the audience wasn't into the show.

Well, he didn't do any of that onstage. He just left abruptly after the bow and didn't linger as he did for the other shows. Actually, although there were people walking in and out of the concert between visits to the slots, I remember the audience being very much into GYOW because they were so close to the floor that Lindsey couldn't lean over the edge of the stage. He just walked into the audience and let them play his guitar, standing toe to toe with the fans and the audience loved that. But they weren't a "rock" audience. They were casual gamblers, people on walkers!

They were glad to participate in the guitar strumming, but not screaming and jumping up and down. Actually, the people in charge of the venue weren't letting people approach the stage and Stevie was whispering to Mick and Lindsey. After she did they said something about wishing people would be allowed to stand.

The second night, he was in a great mood and the sound seemed to have been overhauled. In fact, the second night I was thankful that I got to see them in such a small place, because it was so intimate. But I guess that was because the sound was better. The first night it was like listening to them through a faulty school PA system. They were introduced by Dick Clark and I really thought they had sunk to their lowest level.

But I have to point out, when Mick toured with his Blues Band last fall, they were playing all small venues, and he was doing low-key meet & greet most nights, presumably for free. The tour couldn't have been about money, as they probably didn't expect to make much from it. I really had the idea Mick put the tour together just because he still loves playing the original Mac music.

Well, see, this is what I don't understand.
At all.
He does the small venue thing for the love of music, and--presumably--anyone who bothers coming is considered a true fan of Mick Fleetwood's and is given the chance to meet him for free.

I can understand that with the MACHINE (trademark: Lindsey), there is more opportunity to make money. And FM is not the only people to take advantage of this but why charge EXTRA above All Access to meet him? Why not say, hey--these fine men and women are wonderful enough to spend so much money on a package, so I'll just pop in and greet them all as they do their little backstage tours? It would be nice, unexpected, and leave even those that don't have the money or inclination to do this with a much better taste in their mouths instead of feeling like he's trying to make money out of his most ardent fans. Being that they are willing to shell out big bucks for FM, and bigger bucks for the backstage tour, surely he can pad his own pockets with EVEN bigger bucks.

It's not nice.

And I have met him! For free! It wasn't such a big deal.

There aren't that many markets to be hit on this leg of the tour between Vancouver and Sacramento. Seattle & Portland, that's it.

Its not all that much of a trek between the two cities. If it was Sacramento and then, say, Calgary two days later, that would be a little bizarre.
