From the Nick Fix: "Patty Loveless recorded Nicks' Fleetwood Mac song "Silver Springs" for a new CD to raise money for the Imus Ranch, a working New Mexico cattle ranch founded by radio personality Don Imus"

I love Stevie and I would love to buy this song, but I would never give a dime to Imus!

It seems the world forgot pretty quick about his aweful comments about the girls basketball team. It's well known he is a bigot and has made other racial comments before this. It is also been discussed publically that this 'charity' ranch is questionable, providing Imus with a great place to live for free with the kids providing free labor to run the ranch. Not saying this is true at all, but I've heard it debated.

I hate for Stevie to be associated with this, and for this man's name to be on her website!

Should I just get over it? lol

I understand where you are coming from. I belive some good will come from it though.

I bet Stevie approved without knowing or was convinced by someone that it would be ok.

GET OVER IT. And get over yourself, for that matter.

The Imus Ranch has provided incredible experiences for an untold number of terminally ill children for about ten years now. If you can't put soapbox politics aside for one moment and freakin' download the song (99 cents off of iTunes/Amazon) with the thought of benefiting a child less fortunate than you, then what does that say?

Ok I wasn't even certain where the $ was going since I try to tune out all things Imus as he can't seem to open his mouth without inserting foot but if it is going to the terminally ill kids I'll buy the CD.

By the way, for those who can manage to be unhindered by soundbites and blessed with an open mind, this is an excellent CD- check it out!

a veritable all-star lineup (including former FM'er Bekka Bramlett!)

Bekka Bramlett is a star..!?

She's actually the weak link on the CD ;)

Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, Willie Nelson, Little Richard, Vince Gill are the main names.

I think it's great to question things. I also think that not so good people do good things for tax purposes, etc., so even though Imus is an a**ho*e bigot, the money is probably well spent for the children who will benefit from it.

.

Hmm...you can tell this is the Stevie forum can't you. Bekka couldn't be the weak link on anything... ;)

I have to say I have only downloaded the Bekka song off this album, and its great - very Bekka. So either the rest of the album is better than anything ever released before, or like I said, you can tell this is the Stevie forum.

Oh yes I know, I should take my Bekka appreciation to the post-rumours forum....

Assuming that the appropriate royalties were paid, I doubt Stevie had any say in the matter.

I guess I am just uneducated regarding Ms. Bramlett .:shrug:Aside from participating in the only Fleetwood Mac studio album to fail to make the Billboard 200 in 40 years what exactly has she done? The allmusic guide does not show much of anything.

I have to agree. I think Imus is a tool, but it's not like HE'S getting the money.

OMG, BEKKA! :D I totally have to buy that. I listened to Silver Springs last night, and I was very unimpressed. FM does it better!

What do they do with the cattle? I mean, how does a cattle ranch benefit ill children?

And, Luke- dont be hasty, you can never be sure where the money goes unless you're Imuses accountant. Different people do 'charity' for millions of reasons. Billion-dollar pharmaceutical companies 'help' third world countries- for tax reasons- and what Africa gets, is useless drugs past expiration date. Dont jump on the over-eager bandwagon only because it says it helps sick kids.

Thanks for the feedback, not so sure why this bothered me so much. I think the song Silver Springs made a lot of us Stevie fans in the first place and we hold a special place for it. To have it associated with bigotry in anyway just doesn't sit well with me, and then to see this man's name on Stevie's web site makes my stomach turn!

I appreciate the critism, exp Lukes. I agree supporting a charity is cool, but I can't bring myself to donate to this. I just donated $25 to the North Shore Animal League instead. Under organization I put "White Winged Dove Inc" lol.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

You mean besides the Bekka and Billy album and the Bekka solo album? :D

Sadly she's under-rated - used as a backing singer or on a duet when a powerful female voice is needed.

Oh well...

Really? I always thought that the artist had to give permission first.

Oh well as long as those poor kids benefit.

Well in this case Barbara Nicks owns the song so she normally would get the royalties if they don't all go to the charity.

You don't have to give permission. If it's used in a different art form, then you do, but if you're just recording the song, just pay BMI or Ascap and sing what you want.

Which is why there are some awful covers of songs out there!

Actually Bruce Springsteen did say that if anyone covered one of his songs on American Idol (etc) he would sue them. One of the contestants on our Australian Idol did a Springsteen song, so we shall wait and see if they get sued (would imagine that Bruce couldn't do anything about it).

Imas when making racial slurs

That was over a year ago...it was stupid, and he paid the price. I agree with Luke, get over it. It's Imas' charity, and the money goes to terminally ill children who need it, so unless it's satan himself running the charity, i don't see why you have such a problem with it.
