Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham wants to play a song for President George W Bush called 'Treason'

Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham is offering to play a song for outgoing US President George W Bush "about selfishness and greed".

The Democrat supporter has already played for one President, when the group performed at Bill Clinton's inauguration ball in January 1993.

Their song, "Don't Stop", had been used as a campaign theme by President Clinton.

But he was pithy about performing for the current Republican incumbent of the White House.

He said he would be willing to play a song for President George W Bush and has already got one written: "It's called Treason and it's all about selfishness and greed."

However, he said he is hopeful the group will be asked back to play for Barack Obama when he celebrates his arrival at the White House in January.

"I would be delighted if we could do that again," Buckingham told the Daily Telegraph's Mandrake. He concedes, however, that Bruce Springsteen is in a better position "especially as I see Bruce has already got himself the Superbowl slot".

Treason is on his solo album "Gift of Screws," which was released in October.

Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967. Buckingham was a 25-year-old Californian singer-songwriter in 1974 when English drummer Mick Fleetwood recruited him and Buckingham's then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks to what would become the definitive line-up of Fleetwood Mac.

The group is now talking about a tour next year: "We're talking about having rehearsals in January for a tour, which should start in March.

"But we're going to be sensible about it. There's going to be time off for family and for Stevie Nicks' voice.

"Hopefully the tour will spark us to make a record," Buckingham added.

"I love being in that band. We have such great chemistry. It's nice that I can go back with them after I have the opportunity to make my solo albums. I'm in a great position. I have my solo career, Fleetwood Mac and most of all, my family."

He sure had some harsh words for W, but time off for Stevie's voice? Does she lose hers often? I don't know, but if she doesn't, those sound like fighting words to me. I would love to see him preform a solo song (even if it is only Treason) in a large setting.

^^^ Treason would be a perfectly appropriate song for Bush's exit.Even though Barack would have been in middle school and high school at the zenith of Fleetwood Mac's popularity I don't see him asking them to perform at the inaugeration.Maybe Babs Striesand and almost certainly the Boss though.

Barack is older than me and I'd ask FM to perform at my inauguration.

I don't think he meant anything about the comment on Stevie's voice.
During SYW, she had some voice issues. Too many sheds, too little time off between appearances. There were three or four dates cancelled along the way (one of which I was halfway out the door for;-)

So, if they take things slowly and sensibly--booking only 2-3 concerts a week, instead of 4-5, that would be far better for all of them.

The Bruce stuff was interesting. I totally think the Mac should have been on top of that Superbowl slot. It can really help boost a band's/performer's exposure. And I would love it if they played Barack's coronation, but I don't think that's likely -- given he's distancing himself from the Clinton legacy. ahem. But, riddle me this, macmenandwomen, what Fleetwood Mac song would be most appropriate for the Obama inauguration!? "Don't Stop" is disqualified.

My vote, in all earnestness, would be "The Chain"... but "Tusk" would be genius..... oooh oooh or "Illume"!

How about Little Lies?

...

HA!

Umm...I think Peacekeeper is still relevant to what's going on in the world today.

Well, I guess Chain could work, if you use the "keep us together" as a request that all the people of the United States stay together and work together.

But I think he'd want something with themes of "Hope" or "Change" in the lyrics. Maybe "Winds of Change."

True. He's 47 and I'm 44 and I remember that era perfectly. FM was everywhere. I'm sure Barack knows Fleetwood Mac.

Well I think the song is about reconciliation. Actually, the offer is a beautiful one on Lindsey's part. I think.

Maybe, but I thought the man himself said it was about Selfishness and Greed. At least, that's how he means to present it to the biggest idiot of the modern times.

It's all about cycles. Moreover, it's organic.

The Treason and Obama stuff is really interesting. But my heart jumps for joy at this part. :blob2:

And there's that part about a new album AFTER the tour again...

When I first heard Treason, I was wondering if LB was making a political statement.
