I went last night and was somewhat underwhelmed.
The ticket said 8 p.m.; she came on at 9:20 p.m. There was no opening act, but a DJ (a terrible one) was playing beforehand.
During her show there were too many mash-ups and unfamiliar arrangements that took the fun out of her hit songs. Some sounded rushed or resisted the original melodies. She also scolded the audience at one point for not singing along, even though it was during a section of the show where she performed three songs from her new album (none of the singles).
High points: rock version of Borderline, She's Not Me, Like Prayer and a surprisingly well-sung You Must Love Me.
I saw Alison Moyet last week at a gorgeous theater. Amazing voice.
Tonight, Lindsey.
