If you are a Elvis Presley fan, or just a music fan in general (why else would you be here?), you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of the newly remastered Elvis CD "That's The Way It Is". It's a two disc set and includes many previously unreleased alternate takes. The sound is really unbelievable compared to the previously released versions of this album. I would say even better sound than the original vinyl release from 1970.

If you're only familiar with his biggest hits, especially the ones from the 50's this album might be a shock to your system. It was a mature Presley coming off the success of the '68 Comeback Special and back on tour that you'll find on this CD. He was in top form during this time of his life.

ELVIS "THAT'S THE WAY IT IS" CD (FTD LABEL 2008) 2 CD Set.

Interesting to see this on this board.
I'm interested in this, but how does it compare to the 3-cd set that was released a few years ago?
These sound improvements have been done to most Elvis records since the early 90's,most important to me was 50's box set, some of my vinyls had simply horrible sound.
That's the way it is sounds fine,no doubt it can be improved.
What i really want now is -69 sessions on 5.1 sound.
They were atleast partly recorded in isolation,so it may be possible.

On how does it compare with the Elvis That's The Way It Is 3-CD set that was mastered by Dennis Ferrante, the sound is much better in my opinion on the new FTD Label set. I believe the new set was mastered by Jean-Marc Juilland. Who knows what they had to work with, but Jean-Marc's work has paid off. Every song sounds better. More detail from Elvis voice to the instruments used, some of which I hadn't noticed as much in the other versions of this CD/Album.

It would be hard to choose between the two because of the different track list. The concert on the 3-CD set you mentioned (disc 2) is worth the price alone on that set. But I certainly would pick the new set for the sound quality. And the new set has a great booklet included with some of the best photos of Elvis I've seen. So both are very much worth having.

I also want the '69 sessions in the best possible sound. Some of which the FTD/BMG Label have already released. Over the past few years there's been a big improvement in the sound quality of many of Elvis' CD's. You've just got buy the right ones!

Thanks for this!
It's an easy choice for me,this new set.
Main reason why i didn't buy the 3-cd set was the inclusion of the live cd.
I try to avoid his live records,of the 5 released during his life,
i listen to 1 somewhat often,2 sometimes and 2 practically never.
Those 5 are quite enough for me.

The alternate takes that FTD have been releasing during the last years
are also something that i tread carefully.
It's a never ending sea if you get caught there and those versions are largely so similar to released versions,i find them mostly useless.
Many times he got the song in first take,so the rest are just his desire to go over the song again, not to find new angles to them.

Rehearsal versions are more tempting.

You're welcome. Let me know what you think of it when you get the time.

I'm curious, do you own any other Elvis FTD Label CD's?

Don't hold your breath,i'm very slow at buying new releases.
Might take anything from few months to years.

I have two
Jungle room sessions (bought at Graceland )
Viva Las Vegas 7" sleeve Soundtrack, didn't really need it,just had to buy it.
Thinking next one i'm going to buy is Memphis sessions
