I now have to wade through a 20 page thread just to discuss politics with my peers on this board.
We don't restrict other threads on the Chit Chat forum. If I don't want to read a thread, I do not click on it. I understand you are trying to appease some people here but a single thread dedicated to this topic on a board with such politically minded members ain't gonna cut it.
For those off you that don't think the upcoming US election doesn't apply to you, you're wrong. What is happening in the US right now will have a global effect both economically and socially on the majority of those living in civilized countries. And yes, I know where New Zealand is Kiwi.
For those of you who want to continue to live in denial I say this: DON'T BE TOO LAZY TO SCROLL. It's not so hard. :wavey:
My main problem with being restricted to one thread is that all of the arguments can get mixed up. It is nice to have the debates separated so they don't run together/get forgotten. When I don't want to read threads about those losers in Fleetwood Mac, I just don't click on them.

I really didn't understand it either..With perhaps the most historical election in American history less than a month away and financial crisis all over the world one thread seems way too constricted.

I'm sorry... It was me who suggested a politics forums. I didn't intend for all discussions to be restricted to one thread

I absolutely agree. Especially about the losers in FM part.
Seriously, if the intention was to stifle the discussion, it worked for me. It's nearly impossible to have specific discussions about specific topics. The muddle is overwhelming and the conversation much less interesting as a result.

A forumis a good idea. A thread---not so much.

Just look at how the NZ dollar has gone down! I have a ticker on my desktop. Within just a few days the American dollar went from $1.50 to $1.67 in Kiwi money.

Comments that the One Post solution is making political conversation unmanageable are well taken. We are unsticking the "All Political Posts" post, but will not be creating a separate forum for Politics.
Create your new and separate political topics, as you like.
Please title all political threads as such so that they can be easily avoided by those who are not interested.

Which is unfortunate because I was the one who mentioned about people in the US not knowing where New Zealand was and I'm an Aussie. Please don't associate us with the sheep lovers :D Oh and it was a comment made in fun too!
Its not that the US election doesn't affect those of us in other countries, its just that we don't really give a f*ck. Sure Palin might bomb Russia and Obama might be a terrorist but the truth of the matter is that I can't change it and I will deal with what comes.
I don't think a single person who made a comment about the political forums wanted one single thread. My personal suggestion was for a music forum, a social forum (ie Chit Chat) and a News and Current Events forum. Like I have said before this place has been like this for a long time, and isn't going to change.
The whole concept of shoving everything that isn't Fleetwood Mac into one forum with 300,000+ posts does seem to lack logic though.

This makes sense. We can talk about politics in separate threads, but this is, after all, a forum devoted to "losers" in FM, not about the losers in the US Government.
BTW, what is "New Zealand"?

I was fine with having one thread for conversation pertaining to one topic- the United States Presidential Election. And that's all it is- one topic. Another forum I frequent has a Obama/McCain thread (started in June) that's at about 7500 posts now. Its very handy to have it all in one thread. Carrying multiple conversations in one thread isn't *that* hard, either- that's what hyperlinks & quote boxes are for.
Most forums I've seen/participated in have a single general "Off Topic" folder- yes, with hundreds of thousands of posts. The vBulletin format (which The Ledge uses) has a powerful and effective search function to peruse the archives. However, dozens of threads pertaining to the same exact subject overwhelm the conversation and make the forums anything BUT accessible and user-friendly.

What the heck do they need all those sheep for? :)
Anyway, Moderators, thank you for hearing the feedback. I understand that so many threads could get overwhelming to people who are absolutely not interested. Maybe we who are interested can try to be judicious about starting new threads. You know, a lot of the articles/thoughts/events that we want to share could logically fit into one that is pre-existing.

Pip, I am with you on that one, I think a politics forum would be the way to go. What we have now has turned into a beast.
