A Stephen Stills fan compares Stills to Lindsey:
http://blogs.poughkeepsiejournal.com/sonicstorm/2011/10/06/phone-tag-with-stephen-stills/
I tend to compare him to Lindsey Buckingham in the sense that they are two musicians who know exactly what they want every instrument to sound like, and will even play it themselves if necessary. They both have an amazing ability to mix beauty and harmony with intensity and drama. They also come from band situations whose soap opera-like tabloid fodder sometimes outshines the music unfortunately.

Aliens Ate His Buick: Though he's mostly known for a ubiquitous 80s pop hit that helped to get him labeled as a 'one hit wonder', Thomas Dolby is something of an unsung genius of the New Wave era -- more in common with Frank Zappa's and Lindsey Buckingham's solo work than Rick Astley. Tonight, Dolby invades the Triple Door, where he will host a small lecture, play music from his new album, A Map of the Floating City, and more than a few of his early hits. You know, like the one about the beautiful Miss Sakamoto whose science is blinding; yeah, that one.

Pinflap releases ''Carry On'' ready for Valentines Day
Dallas, Texas (MMD Newswire) February 8, 2012 -- Simply Music Management is thrilled to announce the release of Pinflap's (Gregory Wooldridge) second album "Carry On", available worldwide from Feb 9 ready for Valentine's Day.
Carry On by Pinflap features 16 original songs plus two bonus tracks. Carry On takes us on an emotional journey with lyrics that touch the heart of all who have experienced life's highs and lows. Never before released songs 'She's a Dream' and 'One in a Million' make a perfect Valentine's Day gift. "Carry On is a compilation of songs written over the last year about life's journey", said Pinflap,"I was inspired by internationally acclaimed John Mayer to complete the album".
Pinflap music appeals to all generations and with a growing fan base crossing several continents Pinflap new CD will be sold worldwide from all major e-retailers and CD Baby.
Pinflap (Gregory Wooldridge) has been writing music for about 28 years. At the age of 21, he brought a used acoustic guitar and taught himself how to play. Three months later he was in a band and went on to perform as part of renowned Cadillac Cowboys. More recently Pinflap has been carving out a successful international solo career as a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist.
In an industry often permeated with mixers and voice synthesizers it is refreshing to hear the raw talent of a singer/songwriter acoustic guitarist who sounds as good live as he does on his newly released album.
Pinflap credits Lindsey Buckingham, James Taylor and Ian Anderson, and more recently John Mayer as musicians who inspired his career. One amazing fact about Pinflap is that he never uses a pick similar to Lindsay Buckingham acoustic rhythm. His unique style is hauntingly beautiful and simplistic but yet it is complex if not impossible to emulate.
Simply Music management, based in Australia, Texas USA and London UK has released 'Carry On' for worldwide distribution.

RxGibbs
Ron Gibbs is a nostalgic futurist who makes ambient dub in the style of the Orb or Aphex Twin
Paul Lester
guardian.co.uk, Monday 27 February 2012 09.59 EST
Slow, drifiting technoscapes … RxGibbs
Hometown: Michigan.
The lineup: Ron Gibbs (music, production).
The background: There are probably better genres of music to enjoy right now than ambient dub as the weather improves and thoughts drift (a key word here) towards summer, but we can't think of any. Michigan producer Ron Gibbs, who operates as RxGibbs, is a nostalgic futurist, his electronic reveries made using modern technology and evoking memories of the/his past. It recalls that style of music popular in critical circles 20 years ago (and not from Seattle or "Madchester") – the slow, drifting (told you) technoscapes of Seefeel, and those artists involved in the early UK dance scene who had mental or musical links with shoegazing and/or 70s psychedelia and prog, such as the Orb. Says Gibbs: "I've always drawn inspiration from bands like Seefeel, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Andrew Weatherall's projects, the Orb and such. These were the bands that blew my mind way back in high school." One of his tracks, High Moon, from the Disclosure EP, sounds like something Weatherall might have recorded for Primal Scream circa Screamadelica. That album is another touchstone for Gibbs, although he's more into the sonics of the era than the messianic posturing. He thinks early Verve produced "some of the most beautiful music ever" and digs the musicianship of guitarist Nick McCabe and bassist Simon Jones, but believes Richard Ashcroft "is the one that ruined them in the end".
There are also probably better labels for Gibbs to release his music on right now than Cascine, but we can't think of any. Cascine is the New York-London label whose acts, such as Chad Valley, Selebrities and Jensen Sportag, we've been saying appreciative things about recently. They don't have a label sound as such – although Factory meets early Warp isn't far off – but they do have a label "feel": it's the sheen that celebrates itself. And they have managed, with their stylish sleeve designs, to convey that feel even in this no-product, digital-only age.
Cascine's signature look and sound are instantly recognisable in RxGibbs's latest EP, Futures. It's his third, as far as we can tell, and first for Cascine, preceded as it was by the Disclosure and Bleu Celeste EPs. We tried listening to the latter pair on his Bandcamp, but that site appears to be experiencing problems, so we downloaded them instead. There is a marked progression from his early work to Futures, even if it's of the slow-evolving kind. If anything, his music has become poppier, less chillout than chillwave. Sometimes, this poppiness is subtle: the title cut and Lumiere are like backing tracks for fully fledged songs, while Proxy has the melancholy motion of New Order's best wan disco. It goes on and on, yet you still feel sad when it stops. Silver starts off dreamy then speeds up to become the Fleetwood Mac-in-space we were expecting from Chad Valley's side project Jonquil. The final track, Split Infinity, is in the same vein: electronic MOR, a blur or blend of Selected Ambient Works and Tusk. If Aphex Twin and Lindsey Buckingham ever did a mashup for Cascine, here's some idea of the result.
The buzz: "Luscious, heavenly ambience".
The truth: Time once again for Cascine to be heard.
Most likely to: Have an ever growing pulsating brain.
Least likely to: Become addicted to cocaine.
What to buy: The Futures EP is available now on Cascine – digital release only.
File next to: The Orb, Seefeel, Washed Out, Andrew Weatherall.

The Norton Report picked 10 songs for this week in a "New Music for Old People" column. Lindsey was mentioned.
2. "Rolene" — Moon Martin (3:05)
This is an obscurity by one of the great unknown power pop geniuses who somehow avoided stardom. He wrote classics such as “Cadillac Walk,” “Bad Case of Loving You,” “Victim of Romance,” and “Paid the Price.” Even those covers by Mink DeVille, Robert Palmer, Michelle Phillips, and Nick Lowe did not uncover his shroud of secrecy. This is MY favorite Moon track from the mid-'70s and I’m sure Lindsay Buckingham was a Moon fan based on this track alone.

Rocco DeLuca – Drugs ‘n Hymns (2012)
Posted by Nick DeRiso
To be so organic, so uninhibited and free — during the song “Amen,” Rocco DeLuca actually turns from the microphone, filling the room around him with a howling lament — Drugs ‘n Hymns is often grounded by the familiar.
That gives this record both its magic, and its heft.
DeLuca, who’s been leading a blues rock-informed outfit called the Burden for the last few years, unplugs for this idiosyncratic solo excursion, due on March 6 from 429 Records. That brings him nose to nose with his finely drawn characters’ highs and lows, the moments when something life altering is understood for the first time.
Still, as distinctive as Drugs ‘n Hymns can sometimes be, with its echoing Dobro amidst spacious settings, DeLuca is clearly aware of the long path that brought him to this place. You hear bits and pieces of his musical influences, and these strands serve as buttresses when DeLuca starts playing fast and loose with song structures.
Tracks like “My My” and “Snake Oil Salesman” boast the same kind of barely controlled anger found on fellow Californian Lindsey Buckingham’s 1970s-era acoustic sides, right down to the banjo-inspired guitar signatures. The instrumental “Sibylle,” with its solemnly looped rhythm backing, resonates like the best atmospheric rock of Daniel Lanois. The trippy “The Stride Like Gods,” later in the album, takes this concept to its apocalyptic endgame, stirring in backwards snippets of music that sweep from one end of the audio spectrum to the other, all over an ominously rumbling backbeat, until the song eventually dissolves into a wordless hum. “Gorky,” the final instrumental on Drugs ‘n’ Hymns, sounds like a far-off moan, barely heard but distinctly felt.

Top Ten Reasons We Can't Get Enough National Lampoon's Vacation - AMC Blog - AMC
John Hughes's genius and Lindsay Buckingham's snappy, toe-tapping tune are just a couple of the reasons to love this comedy classic.
Top Ten Reasons We Can't Get Enough National Lampoon's Vacation
Few comedies have enjoyed the legacy that National Lampoon's Vacation has. It was one of the highest grossing comedies of all time when released in 1983 and it has kicked off one of the most successful franchises in movie history. So what makes the story of the Griswold family so great? Here are ten reasons we can't get enough National Lampoon's Vacation.
10. Sightseeing Made Easy
Much of the movie is filmed on location. With shots of sites like the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and the St. Louis Arch, watching Vacation is like taking a road trip without having to pay for gas -- or ride in a Truckster.
9. A 15-Year-Old Jane Krakowski
As cousin Vicki, Krakowski makes her movie debut by defending her French-kissing prowess: "But Daddy says I'm the best at it." Even as a teen, the future 30 Rock star has the earnest delivery of the absurd that is her trademark.
8. Misery Loves Company
Your troubles will never be as bad as the Griswolds. You've probably dealt with nutty relatives, but hopefully you never had to tie a dead one to the roof rack. And have you ever left a dog leashed to the bumper and driven away? Well, at least you're not alone.
8. Christie Brinkley vs. Beverly D'Angelo
In this corner, the hottest supermodel of the '80s. In the other, one of the greatest MILFs of all time. Both of them have a thing for Clark W. Griswold. How did a "genius with food additives" get so lucky? Who cares. These lovely ladies provide Vacation with spice.
6. The Rollercoaster Ride
The excitement. The fear. The nausea. Director Harold Ramis captured the many realities of a great amusement park ride by having the actors ride this repeatedly to get the right shot. The result is priceless.
5. John Hughes' Imaginative Genius
Leave it to John Hughes to take a childhood experience and turn it into a work of comedic gold. Hughes's screenplay is based on an unfortunate family trip he took to Disneyland as a boy. (Who hasn't had to sit next to an elderly relative that smells like mothballs?)
4. Last Minute Intro of John Candy
The original ending (Clark kidnaps Mr. Walley) didn't go over with test-audiences, so director Harold Ramis called on former SCTV castmate John Candy to shoot a last-minute alternative. His hilarious turn as a Walley World security kicked off Candy's big-screen career.
3. "Holiday Ro-o-o-o-o-o-o-o- o-oad"
Lindsay Buckingham, the guitarist from Fleetwood Mac, recorded "Holiday Road" -- now synonymous with the Vacation franchise -- with a chorus so upbeat it can instantly turn a frown upside down.
2. "This Is a Quest For Fun!"
After innumerable disasters, Ellen, Rusty, and Audrey want go home. But Clark's not having it! What follows is the most hilarious pep-talk ever: "This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun... We're all gonna have so much f**king fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles." He's right.
1. Quintessential Chevy Chase
Few actors can pull off what Chase does. His performance is simultaneously heartfelt and hysterical. A nostalgic tear in his eye while having a man-to-man talk with Rusty can quickly disappear with impeccable comedic timing. Chase's Clark may be a buffoon, but he's also the lovable lug we'd gladly follow anywhere -- and have been doing so for over 30 years ago.
Can't Get Enough National Lampoon's Vacation starts on Mon. Mar. 5 at 8/7c.

What Would Lindsey Buckingham Do? [I like the title of this Austinist interview!]
Excerpt from Interview with Katy Goodman:
http://austinist.com/2012/03/15/la_sera_interview.php
Was there anything you were listening to when you were writing this last album in particular?
Fleetwood Mack. We were listening to Fleetwood Mack a lot you know when we were recording, like when we would try to find a good guitar tone. It would kind of be like, what would Lindsey Buckingham do? We would use a lot of guitar tones that were pretty influenced by Fleetwood Mac.
Masterpieces made of other people's songs
http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/blogs/blog-on-the-tracks/6597011/Masterpieces-made-of-other-peoples-songs
The best - sustained - case of playing dress-up with someone else's songs that I've ever heard, an album I regularly return to, is She Loves You by The Twilight Singers. Have you heard it? It's the third album by Twilight Singers, a group that started as a side-project for Greg Dulli (of Afghan Whigs).
...........
The absolute standouts, for me, are the version of Bjork's Hyperballad (especially given the original is an amazing piece, one of Bjork's best songs) and the cover of Lindsey Buckingham's What Makes You Think You're the One. On Tusk it might just be another song, one you either love or loathe (or are unaware of/indifferent to). But here Dulli gives it a push in the right direction toward accessibility - really giving the lyric a chance to shine in all its pathetic self-absorption.

But fun. somehow stumbled upon numero uno. The bestselling song of 2012 is upbeat and uplifting. Singer Nate Ruess does Lindsey Buckingham impersonating Freddie Mercury. The main instrument here is his theatrical voice.

text referring to LB:
Q: In your session work (most notably with Sting), I appreciate that fact that the your guitar parts always seem to compliment the lyric or verse. Although sometimes quite subtle, the method in which your voicings weave in and out of the songs remind me quite a lot of Lindsey Buckingham. Does your feel that your classical reference point has contributed to your ability to express or restrain your session guitar work (as you always seem to 'play for the song')? - from Chad
A: Thanks for this. Lindsay Buckingham is one of the most creative song accompanists on guitar. His parts always sound perfect to me. I am flattered you should put me in the same paragraph as him. Yes I do in some way model my approach on his, but there are also many others. Classical playing has been of some help, mainly with technique which I sometimes use on electric and visa versa. But my main instrument is musicianship. I like to be true to the song and complement it as much as it deserves, if not more. Having some classical background and listening to people like Lindsay Buckingham helps make this possible.

Quote from Lindsey in article about Ken's book.
http://www.wmmr.com/music/news/story.aspx?ID=1704047
Lindsey Buckingham recalls that overcoming the drama surrounding the band's inter-personal relationships during the making of Rumours was a huge part of the album's success: "The best thing probably was, in some odd way, the fact that we rose above all of that and were almost able to tap into the heroic aspects of ourselves in order to do what needed to be done. Because, we'd had already had one successful album, and once Rumours became as successful as it obviously was going to become, we just realized that we just had to push through no matter what and that was what people responded to."

Compares Lindsey's look to Daniel Hindman:
Seattle Weekly, May 18, 2012 by Erin Thompson
http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2012/05/which_nw_musician_is_lindsey_b.php
Yesterday I blogged about one show I was looking forward to this weekend--Pure Bathing Culture at Neumos tonight with Deep Sea Diver and Ravenna Woods. In this week's Short List, my Editor's Pick of the week is a different show though--Lindsey Buckingham at the Neptune tomorrow night. Today Pure Bathing Culture tweeted a photo of that Short List page, stating, "Seattle Weekly. Stoked to be sharing the page with Lindsey! Danny beside himself." In looking at the page, I came to the startling realization that Lindsey and PBC's Daniel Hindman look scarily similar.
I mean present-day Lindsey Buckingham. When Buckingham was Hindman's age he looked like this:
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn2/michelej1/Lindsey%20Buckingham/danielhindman-thumb-535x364.jpg
So I guess what I'm saying is, young Daniel Hindman looks like old Lindsey Buckingham, and that is cool. And a Short List coincidence. I wasn't the first to notice this. A commenter on PBC's Instagram wrote: "The men are sort of rockin the same hairdo, too." Good on you, Daniel.

...Speak For Me: Mayer's sonic tour of California turns towards Lindsey Buckingham here, with a rolling guitar figure and a gentle but lively mood. Mayer seems a little down on his colleagues here ("The music on my radio ain't supposed to make me feel alone") and yearns for someone who can "play a song that I can sing" and "make me feel as I am free." ...

http://www.contactmusic.com/news/john-mayer-album-indebted-to-the-70s-but-is-it-any-good_1331534
John Mayer 's new album 'Born and Raised' is indebted to the late 1960s and early '70s, to the extent that the cover art even looks like a facsimile of SMALL FACES' 1968 album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. Mayer's fifth studio album is the first that he will be unable to support with a live tour, as he is currently suffering from a throat condition that forced him to cancel his planned live shows. In the absence of a tour, Mayer will no doubt be hoping that reviews of the album will be positive ones.
Billboard note how much tracks like 'Queen of California' owe their influence to the likes of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, with a nod to Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham in 'Speak For Me.' To hammer the point home, the title track features backing vocals from David Crosby and Graham Nash. Their track-by track rundown offers more in the way of description than opinion, though, leaving the reader to seek out the tracks themselves. More telling is the review from New York Daily Times, which concludes that it's Mayer's "lack of vulnerability and risk that most distances this album from its intended goal", adding, "Instead of being more frank and raw, its more meandering and numb than ever."
Huffington Post are kinder, describing 'Born and Raised' as "a phenomenal record", and continuing, "John Mayer has crafted an album not only meeting the towering expectations of loyal Mayer fans but far surpassing them." There's no hiding Mayer's intention to create an homage to days gone by; he seems to have divided opinion with his fifth studio album though and only time will tell whether or not it will suffer with a lack of live appearances from the popular singer.

Cory Branan has cited varied influences for "Mutt." They include Mellencamp and Springsteen. ITunes appears to have pegged them as the dominant ones. The album is auto categorized in the rock genre. But his self-produced debut with Bloodshot is a melting pot of varying inspirations, from Americana to folk. Some are subtly hidden, perhaps even to Branan himself. His finesse picking on the gorgeous opener The Corner is reminiscent of Lindsey Buckingham. The fundamental sound is a punk /southern rock vibe in the same vein as Paul Westerberg.

Probably has some connection to Vivendi Universal. When they start dropping names like that it's to drum up public interest, not just some nice retro gesture.
I think there's something cooking in the business realm with this Vivendi company being the largest entertainment conglomerate and the ties with Interscope, Live Nation, Irving Azoff and most recently - Tom Whalley.

Question of the Day: Which Frontman Should Go Solo Next?
BY CHRIS COPLAN ON MAY 25TH, 2012 IN NEWS, QUESTION OF THE DAY
Today, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James announced plans to release his debut solo album. When said LP drops sometime early next year, James will join an illustrious list of well-known frontmen, from Peter Gabriel to Rod Stewart, who have made a go of it on their own. Some have had success as their own creative entities (Phil Collins, Lindsey Buckingham), while others have proven that going solo isn’t always the best approach (see: Chris Cornell’s Scream).
Which prominent rock/pop frontman would you like to see drop a proper solo record? Maybe someone like The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, The National’s Matt Berninger, or Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl? Is there ever an instance where a frontman shouldn’t go it alone? Or, are these albums a “requirement” for all truly successful frontmen?

I agree, and hope it continues. I often wonder how LB status as a solo artist has not (yet??) reached household-name, James Taylor-type level. Is it the hook-laden albums, heartfelt poetic lyrics, meticulous integration of voice and guitar??? Or maybe the A+ live perfs that always blow ppl away??? Jeez, this has got to be just an epic promo fail, no? Along with more esoteric pieces, every album has some radio-friendly songs that I can't believe were not huge hits. Prob has a lot to do w the music biz these days, which is too bad... BTW this is a great thread- it's hard to know where to turn to find new music and these posts have some cool stuff to check out!! thx.

Lehigh Valley, August 5, 2012
http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/musikfest/index.ssf/2012/08/musikfest_tribute_bands_offer_next-best-thing_for_fans.html
Scott McDonald, of New Jersey-based Tusk, says he knew at an early age that he wanted to play the music of Fleetwood Mac. He says he was inspired by guitarist Lindsey Buckingham after hearing the band's landmark 1977 album "Rumours" on the family turntable.
"I pretty much clicked with Lindsey Buckingham, his voice and his playing," McDonald says.
McDonald says Fleetwood Mac's less frequent touring schedule, often done in between its members' various solo projects, have not kept fans from coming to see the band. He describes Tusk show as more "theatrical."
"We've got all the hits and we'll throw in two three (lesser-known) songs," McDonald says. "That also gives us the freedom to stretch a little bit and that helps us not get overly redundant."

Hi Mike The way I practice guitar, for better or worse is that I choose an artist to emulate/rip off for a couple of months. I learn a few songs of that guitarist and then try to incorporate into my own playing. My wife loves LIndsey and so I bought your DVD. If you were going to tackle the whole DVD, in what order would you learn the songs. Met the dude a couple of weekes ago. Phenomenal player but his hands were bloody at end of performance, and he is an unusual player due to his stylistic eccentricities. Thanks in advance. Always learn a ton from watching you play.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2012
Forehead of the Week: Lindsey Buckingham
Totally True Confession: When I was too young to account for the lustful stirrings in my juvenile loins, I thought Lindsey Buckingham was a really sexy guy.
I didn’t know WHY I liked looking at him. In truth, he kind of scared me a little. His voice was bothersome, and the songs I knew were gloomy and troubling, but for whatever reason, the young Lindsey Buckingham, like the young David Bowie, just did it for me. Maybe I was into real skinny, moody looking dudes with prominent bulges at one point. Who knows.
Anyway, my good friend Anna Dynamite and I were talking about something or other recently, and Lindsey Buckingham came up in conversation, like he does. Anna presented the music video for “Holiday Road”, which is a song I have some familiarity with. “This is the saddest video of all time,” said Anna.
“The saddest part is that Clark is going to forget the chainsaw to cut down that giant Christmas tree,” said I, once again displaying my famously accurate memory of films.
“No,” said Anna. “The saddest part is when he forgets to untie the dog from that bumper.”
“Or when his wife stops shaving,” I replied. “Lindsey Buckingham scares the **** out of me. Always has.”
“I have a crush on him. He was wearing guyliner before anyone else. Hipster!”
And then Anna displayed a picture of Buckingham as he appears today, approximately 25 years after the last picture I saw of him was taken, and I was floored.
[good looking pic of LB from SYW era]
“Holy ****, look at that fu*king forehead,” I said. “He’s so intense and stare-y, like he has never had a lighthearted moment.”
Anna: “FACT. Lindsey Buckingham is a No Fun Zone.”
BIOU: “FACT. Lindsey Buckingham gives himself papercuts on purpose.”
Anna: “FACT. Lindsey Buckingham has never smiled. Ever.”
BIOU: “FACT. Lindsey Buckingham had a good day once. He went home and slammed his testicles in a drawer until the happy memories faded.”
As I come to the end of this post, I’m starting to realize that these FACT MARATHONS do not reflect well on Anna and me as members of the global human community or whatever, but that’s okay, because it’s a little known FACT that Anna and I are horrible people and that’s why hordes of classic rock dudes are lining up to beat the **** out of us.
Congratulations, Lindsey, you’re the forehead of the week. Go out there and punish yourself in whatever way seems best to you.

Next Movie, by Brian Enk, October 23, 2012
http://www.nextmovie.com/blog/new-movie-trailers/safe-haven-trailer/
"Open up ... everything's waiting for you!"
Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel fall in love to a Fleetwood Mac cover in the trailer for "Safe Haven," the latest screen adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks romance novel.
If you saw "The Notebook" (and we know you did) or "The Lucky One" (you probably didn't), you know the drill: A cautious courtship leads to passionate embraces before some element of danger — usually one that comes from a secret one of the characters is harboring — comes to light in time for the third act.
More specifically in the case of "Safe Haven," we get Katie (Hough), a woman who moves to a small North Carolina town in an effort to escape something (or someone) from her past. At first, she just wants to lay low as a mysterious recluse, but what young lady could ever help falling in love with a local guy who once helped save Chicago from Decepticon forces (Duhamel)? Shots of them going on romantic rowboat trips and looking hot in their bathing suits ensue.
Nicholas Sparks, you definitely know how to push all the right buttons. Push the one below to watch the trailer for "Safe Haven," which opens Feb. 8, 2013.

http://londonist.com/2012/11/club-watch-tusk-wax-records-hysteria.php
Thanks to Lindsey Buckingham, a mention of the world “Tusk” evokes images of bed-hopping, extended solos and bacchanalian excess. Fear not though elephants – your days of rock mockery are at an end. Whether or not the figures behind London’s Tusk Wax records are big Fleetwood fans or simply enjoy large mammals, they’re doing great things for turning “long in the tooth” into a term of endearment.

The dressing room at Bucked Up Super Saloon in Kernersville would seem an unlikely site for the high drama in the cosmic cycle of life and death to play out.
But it’s not as though the venue is off the map.
“Lindsey Buckingham slept on this couch,” Five L’s guitar player James Hilton jokes, alluding to the rock mojo in the place, as the band assembles in the dressing room. And, indeed, the Fleetwood Mac member did play a concert here in 2012.

This is a little audio snippet from a radio show in the UK. Earlier the disc jockeys were asked to play Frozen Love and they did not know the song and did not know Lindsey's name. They knew Stevie Nicks and Buckingham and had to scramble to think of Lindsey's first name. So, then a listener wrote them and asked them how they could not know the name of a "musical genius" like Lindsey.

What about favourite players? Who are your guys?
I definitely look up to John Mayer. I’ve been on a John Mayer run for the last few months, actually. I like his finger technique. Jack White, Matt Bellamy from Muse, Tom Morello of course. And oddly enough, Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac.
Oh totally! I was listening to his solo album Out of the Cradle recently, and I read that on the tour for that album he had something like four other guitarists on stage, in order to play all the overdubs live.
Yep! I love it! My dad introduced me to him when I was younger. And Jack White, I have a similar style of making an instrument out of anything I can build. Y’know, I get my influences from nerding out my guitar and building things here and there from Tom Morello and Matt Bellamy. Putting pedals and whatever I can into the body of my guitar to take the weight off my feet. Those are my main guys.

Before launching into a fiery cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” during her set Saturday at Somerset Amphitheater, Brandi Carlile coolly mentioned that she’d met Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham a week earlier. Apparently, she wasn’t so nonchalant, however, about running into Saturday’s headliners, the Avett Brothers, backstage before taking the stage. “I said, ‘We must read a lot of the same books,’ ” Carlile goofily recalled. And then she got all geeked out: “I’ve been obsessing over your lyrics for the past year.” Wonder if this means she’ll be covering “Kick Drum Heart” or some other Avetts tune next week.

Perhaps most importantly, the program's location gives them a chance to play for more than just their fellow students – one reason that many pop program students opted for USC over specialized schools such as Boston's Berklee College of Music.

there's an old thread somewhere in this forum, and there was a recording of most of that session. just do a search. maybe Lindsey at USC or something like that.
it was in jan or feb 2012, his guitars were still in the container being shipped back from the ill-fated UK/Ire tour... i think he played Big Love and another song and there was something controversial at the time that he said, i think it was about june 2012 being to late to make up the UK solo tour.

Rock Stars Who Were Born Rich by Michael Gallucci, Ultimate Classic Rock

Lindsey Buckingham
Before he hooked up with Stevie Nicks in Los Angeles for a singer-songwriter duo that would eventually transform Fleetwood Mac from lumbering British blues band into world-dominating rock stars, Lindsey Buckingham spent his time in a California suburb. His dad owned a successful coffee plant. Young Lindsey, along with his two older brothers, spent a good deal of his free time swimming competitively. In high school, he became a star water-polo player, which says all you need to know about his pre-Mac finances.

[Ha. The comment is funny and fair enough, but why do people always assume that Lindsey is confused about his solo record sales? I mean, maybe he was in the eighties, but surely he hasn't been in the last 20 years]
Excerpt from a review of Sam Phillips
http://thecommonills.blogspot.com/2013/08/kats-korner-sam-phillips-finally-comes.html
That's Sam Phillips oft repeated chorus to "When I'm Alone." It's cloying and really requires a ukulele. In fact, you can easily imagine Lindsey Buckingham both writing and recording the song (convinced he'd 'connected) but he'd probably record the uklele with an echo chamber and then play the recording backwards while multi-tracking his chipmunk vocals and then, finally, be perplexed that he'd yet again made a solo recording that failed to sell.

Robby: I found myself, on the last record, doing a good chunk of finger-picking on electric guitar.
Frank: Lindsey Buckingham style.
Robby: Yeah, which I found, in the studio, was something I needed to work on as far as dynamics go. I wasn’t really thinking about, how, when you’re finger-picking, this finger you’re hitting harder than this other finger. I found myself enjoying a lot of the finger-picking stuff, and I’m actually writing a bunch of stuff that is centered around that technique.

A TUNE A DAY (May 12, 2013)
http://atuneadayblogdotcom.wordpress.com/2013/05/12/lindsey-buckingham-stephanie-1973/
"On the plane over to San Francisco on Saturday (I’m over for a week on a business trip), I had the chance to watch the new documentary Sound City, about the Sound City recording studios in Los Angeles. The film was made by drummer Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and is excellent throughout. But one part was particularly interesting for me. It focused on the recording of Buckingham Nicks, the album that led to Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining Fleetwood Mac in the 1970s, starting with Fleetwood Mac (1975) and then Rumours (1977). It’s a great record and like a blueprint for the subsequent Fleetwood Mac releases, though little heard today because for some reason it never made it onto CD. I have an old vinyl copy but can’t play it any more.
A standout track for me is the instrumental “Stephanie”, composed and played by Buckingham – whose distinctive guitar style pervades all the tracks. Buckingham uses his thumb to pick out the bass and lower parts (like the left hand for a pianist) while using the rest of his fingers for patterns, arpeggios and the melody on the upper strings in a highly independent way. And to make this work more effectively he also changes the typical guitar tuning – something he apparently tried to keep secret in his early days so that other guitarists wouldn’t copy him. It sounds so full it’s hard to believe there’s just one player or no overdubs – except for the electric guitar melodies on the record, but these aren’t really needed, this is essentially a solo piece.
“Stephanie” reminds me of the folk-influenced finger-picking guitar style Paul McCartney used on “Blackbird” taken up a few notches, and it’s evident again on the Rumours track “Never Going Back Again”. Although the original is still hard to find, Buckingham has been playing the piece live recently and there are performances available on YouTube. But if you are interested in how it is played, take a look at this fascinating tutorial by Sara Carter. The prospect of a cover version on YouTube is typically something to avoid at all costs, but not in this case – she absolutely nails it here."
I'd never heard that before. When did Lindsey say that?

Listening to Now: Fleetwood Mac - "Never Going Back Again"
By Richard K. Barry
This is one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs. "Never Going Back Again" was the third track on the first side of the legendary Rumours album, which was released in 1977. Maybe I like it so much because Lindsey Buckingham's guitar part is such a blast to play.
I have no idea about the origins of this clip, but it's clearly more recent. Love it.

[From an article about concert speeches. Hey Lindsey's comments don't make Timothy Schmit's any less annoying!]:
http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/16111151-richie-furay-rocks-the-bears-den-in-a-family-affair
‘In a time when it’s all so confusing / We can win and it feels like losing’: but I doubt whether Timothy Schmit ever feels like losing
It’s hard to believe some people find Timothy B. Schmit’s ‘rambling’ at his solo gigs annoying. I read a pretty negative review of one of his live shows on the Poconut[1] forum website but can’t find it again now.
If you want to hear someone really ramble, go see Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey Buckingham should by rights be togged up in a gilet and walking boots, with his trousers tucked securely into some sensible socks and a laminated map nestled next to the pac-a-mac in his pocket.
Lindsey has a tendency to deliver self-aggrandising mini-lectures between numbers, which only really serve to prove that he has not let anything go or matured significantly over the years. Stevie Nicks was only once guilty of an overlong song introduction but at least it had a point. Other than to prove that she’d been right along, which was the gist of all of her bandmate’s diatribes. Honestly, why is he trying to justify Tusk now? As Don Henley might advise: ‘Get over it.’
But you put up with it for the music. They tell their stories better in song and, apart from the odd self-indulgence, the shows are amazing.

[Article on Haim, excerpt] Drowned in Sound
http://www.drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4147286-memory-as-sound--haim-the-1975-and-the-electricity-of-influence?ticker
Haim have often been compared to Fleetwood Mac, but they bring to mind a very specific embodiment of the band. 1987’s Tango in the Night, maybe the Mac’s most finely produced record, is so bright and glowing that even the lesser songs give off a kind of incandescence. Each instrument gently descends into view, but with a virtual depth and glimmer that lend them the qualities of tropical weather. Lindsey Buckingham never played his guitar so elusively again, particularly on “Everywhere” where it settles like percussion around John McVie’s bassline. It's as if Christine McVie’s keyboards get caught in the sweetness of its rotation.

There was more to 2013 than its last forty-six days; there was a time when we were three instead of two. Like lightning bugs, the memories flash. Ken tapping his feet at a Fleetwood Mac concert this May, marveling at the genius of Lindsey Buckingham, wondering what Lindsey must be on and if he could get his hands on some of it. My fiftieth birthday and the wood floors I’d wanted for two decades in this little house finally installed. Expense be damned, I wanted it to feel like a California beach-house underfoot. 2.Haim, ‘Days Are Gone.'
Sure, I hope Haim and Lindsey Buckingham surprise everyone and decide to tour together in 2014, but the mastery of “Days Are Gone” goes far beyond just good taste in classic California pop-rock. Este, Danielle and Alana Haim built a swooning album of tough and sweet earworm songs (“The Wire,” “Falling,” “Honey & I”) and display melodic acuity that feels supernaturally assured for a debut.

And it could also press "Play" on a new wave of evolution in streaming music. The new service from Beats Electronics, the company best known for its Beats By Dr. Dre headphones, becomes available Jan. 21 ($10 monthly fee).
But I've had a chance to test-drive the still-in-beta testing mode service over the last few days – a full-fledged review will come closer to launch – and have to admit that I am smitten.

Upon opening the app the first time, Beats Music asked for three favorite genres – choices include Pop, Rock, Country, Hip-hop, Blues – and three artists that you like or love – Rolling Stones, Alan Jackson, fun, for example – to provide some input for its music presentation algorithm.
Its resulting elegantly-designed entry screens on my IPhone 5s offered multiple opportunities for music discovery. Underneath the opening "Just For You" page. I find a Foo Fighters family tree playlist – complete with text introduction – and clickable albums such as General Public's All the Rage and Minus the Bear's Menos El Oso.

Ten Silly Predictions by Chris Gray of the Houston Press
http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2014/01/10_silly_predictions_for_sunda.php
We're going to get a really, really, really hard-rocking version of a hit from Rumours.
This week the Grammys announced that QOTSA -- who will be in Houston exactly two weeks after the show, February 9 at Bayou Music Center -- and Nine Inch Nails will make their Grammy performing debuts, closing the broadcast alongside Dave Grohl (who is on every year) and Lindsey Buckingham. So in our minds the only question is whether they lead into the local news with "Go Your Own Way" or "The Chain." We'd actually take both.

What do you have planned for the rest of the month?
This week, I’ve put a band together and we’re going to perform the Buckingham Nicks record, which is one of my favorite records and a big undertaking because Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar playing is so insane. The week after that I’m going to have my band The Flat Five [a vocal-centric covers quintet that includes celebrated alt-country siren Kelly Hogan, Scott Ligon and Casey McDonough of the new NRBQ, and drummer Alex Hall who’s toured with Chuck Berry and Wanda Jackson] who usually play once or twice a year. The last week is a band called Precious Blood, which is myself and Danny Black, who I played with in The Blacks about 15 years ago, and his brother Kevin McDonough. That’s just a really super sexy blues kind of thing.

8. Lindsey Buckingham – This Nearly Was Mine (instrumental)
I get impatient with a lot of Lindsey’s solo work lately, all breathy vocals and superfast virtuoso picking. It’s fine, but it gets pretty samey, especially compared with the record I see as his masterpiece, 1992′s Out Of The Cradle. That collection had some of his picking and sing-talking, but it also had fantastic pop songs like “Countdown” and “Don’t Look Down”, lovely ballads like “Surrender The Rain” and “All My Sorrows”, and beautiful instrumental passages like this one. I got the mp3 album from Amazon, burned it to CD last year, and spent some time reacquainting myself with it. “This Nearly Was Mine” is actually a Rodgers & Hammerstein tune, from South Pacific — it was a favorite of Lindsey’s dad, so it got included here as a kind of tribute. Lindsey’s treatment of it is uncharacteristically gentle — even his softest songs tend to have an aggressive edge to them, but not here. (Though the only link I can find is to a live version where he can’t help himself from slipping into virtuoso mode at one point.) He brings out the poignancy of the melody so much that I had to look up the lyrics, and having done so I decided to quote them for the title of this collection, promises of paradise kept, broken, and found at last.

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/63517/americans-season-one-the/
That the show nails the emotional aspect of its stories should not suggest that The Americans skimps on genre thrills. The pilot episode immediately kicks off with a dose of sex and violence, as Elizabeth (in the first of many wigs we will see our spies sporting) seduces and then appears to go down on a potential source. Moments later, Philip is chasing a target down dark alleyways, culminating in a vicious hand-to-hand fight, scored to Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" (an oddly appropriate choice, since Rhys frequently seems to have been styled to play up his resemblance to early-'80s Lindsay Buckingham). Soon, Philip and Elizabeth are storing a defector in the trunk of their car, in their sedate suburban garage, while their kids Paige (Holly Taylor) and Henry (Keidrich Sellati) obliviously eat corn flakes a few hundred feet away.

10. The War on Drugs: I arrived at this band via Kurt Vile. I'm sure many did. I particularly loved 2011's Slave Ambient. It took me a while to get my head around it. And I like that. As I finish writing this post up for today I'm listening again to the band's new one, Lost In The Dream. I'll have a review for you next week. It's both a continuation of the group's sound - hints of that languid, loping, liquid guitar sound, as on Slave Ambient, as Vile is still pursing in his own way too - and a strange, wonderful re-imagination of aspects of the 1980s. I'm certain this will not sell it for you, but several of the songs on the new album feel like they could be album tracks from Lindsey Buckingham's early solo records or the Fleetwood Mac of the 1980s. More than one song has the feel of Don Henley's Boys of Summer. I shouldn't like that. But I do. I really do. Have a listen to An Ocean In Between The Waves. Amazing. I'm hooked! It's taken me back to a band I already loved but at the same time it feels like something altogether different, a totally new sound with just hints and traces of the band's early ideas and Vile's too.

As a result, we've enjoyed trips to Atlanta to see the likes of Todd Rundgren performing with Hall and Oates. There was the memorable Steely Dan concert, as well as a nearly 70-year-old Paul Simon looking and sounding as good as when he was originally lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy. And what a great show in Spartanburg when we saw Lindsey Buckingham in a phenomenal solo show with what seemed like no fewer than 20 guitars.
Maybe we'll get that chance again. We hope so. If nothing else, perhaps they'll return for the Grape Stomp in November.

Lindsey Buckingham – Big Love (live)
Posted on March 30, 2014 by Vanessa
Live version released on The Dance in 1997. Originally released on Tango in the Night in 1987.
One of my all-time biggest pet peeves is when someone gets credit for something that they didn’t do – which is why I refuse to call Big Love a Fleetwood Mac song. I just can’t do it. I don’t know how much creative control Lindsey Buckingham had over the version of this song that appears on Tango in the Night, but I can’t imagine he would take a song that is so incredible on guitar, and clutter it up with synthesizers.
The live version is, in my opinion, the way Buckingham always intended the song to be – stripped down to it’s purest form, devoid of any unnecessary clutter.

[SHN included in 9 excellent songs with wordless hooks]
Music Times, April 1, 2014
http://www.musictimes.com/articles/5186/20140401/9-excellent-songs-with-wordless-hooks-kanye-west-the-smiths-and-more.htm
1. Simon & Garfunkel - "The Boxer" (1970)
If you've written a song with as many words as "The Boxer", you've earned the right to throw a couple of "lie la lie's" in there. Although the melody in the verses is beautifully written, it is very dense, so these poppy choruses are quite welcome.
2. Fleetwood Mac - "Second Hand News" (1977)
The people who prefer Fleetwood Mac's rock era to its pop era are either rockist elitists or in denial, because all Lindsey Buckingham needed for a catchy chorus was the word "bow" and a three-note melody.
3. Misfits - "Some Kinda Hate" (1978)
As great a songwriter as Glenn Danzig is, he's not really one for lyricism. The chorus to this early Misfits classic is simply "woooooah" with a few throwaway phrases in between ("and it's a woah... I said woah...baby it's a woah...").
4. The Smiths - "The Headmaster Ritual" (1985)
For some reason Morrissey loves yodeling, even though he's not that great at it, but he uses the technique to great effect in the chorus to the opening track from Meat is Murder.
5. Pavement - "Cut Your Hair" (1994)
The chorus to Pavement's only hit song consisted of guitarist Scott Kannberg (aka Spiral Stairs) singing a quirky falsetto melody that was clearly out of his range. Maybe if he did that more often, they would have had more hits.
6. The Promise Ring - "Why Did We Ever Meet?" (1997)
The Promise Ring is no stranger to making no damn sense whatsoever (what exactly does "Delaware are you aware of air supply" mean?), so whenever they choose to break out the "ba-bas" and "doo-doos", it's pretty much the only thing that does make sense.
7. Joanna Newsom - "Peach, Plum, Pear" (2004)
Joanna Newsom is famous for writing songs that are 12 minutes long because they have so many verses, but the poppiest moment in any song she's ever written is the wordless chorus to this track off her debut album. It might have ended up being a hit if she hadn't played it on a harpsichord, but probably not.
8. Devendra Banhart - "Santa Maria da Feira" (2005)
Being of Venezuelan descent, Devendra Banhart occasionally likes to sing in Spanish, but even though he has two languages to choose from when writing lyrics, he still chose "la-di-da" for the chorus to this South American-style folk song.
9. Kanye West - "Black Skinhead" (2013)
"Black Skinhead" proved to be one of Kanye's most lyrically provocative songs in years (just look at that title) but the part of the song that gets stuck in everyone's head is that heavily distorted opening hook.

Village Voice by Luke Winkie, April 3, 2014

Strengths and weak points are practically interchangeable when we're talking about music -- nobody measures a band's vertical. You won't ever be faulted for simply talking about how a song makes you feel. It's always important to remember that somebody hates Fleetwood Mac for the exact same reasons you love them. Go to a metal show and tell someone you find Lindsey Buckingham's nylon-string guitar to be a "tremendous strength," see what happens.

The Americana/blues musician’s most recent LP is 2012’s What the Hell Is Goin’ On?, a collection of covers including Buddy Miller’s “Shelter Me Lord,” Allen Toussaint’s “Wrong Number” and Lindsey Buckingham’s “Don’t Let Me Down Again.”

here is LB-mentioning excerpt (wonder if it was Turner?):
Q. What did you want “Storyline” to capture that wasn’t as obvious on the first record?
A. I think I was looking for “Storyline” to get a bit more personal, more heart and soul. I wanted to go back in time to give it more depth. I wanted it to feel like it could have been an older record. One of the rules was no electronic drum sounds. Everything you hear is created from actual instruments. There’s a lot of tributes to the bluegrass I like — the mandolin, the three-part harmonies — and there’s a lot of guitar player references too. While making this record I really studied Lindsey Buckingham. In fact, during the process, I ordered a new guitar because it’s the one he plays.

From The Grateful Web: Dream Academy Collection
Real Gone Music July 29, 2014 Release: Dream Academy Collection
Submitted by JP Cutler Media Fri, 06/20/2014 - 1:13pm
http://www.gratefulweb.com/articles/real-gone-music-july-29-2014-release-dream-academy-collection#sthash.MkdLHiO4.dpuf
With their varied instrumentation, intimate song stylings, and poetic, allusive lyrics, The Dream Academy always stood apart from their '80s British rock brethren; that they dedicated their hit song, "Life in a Northern Town," to Nick Drake and minimalist composer Steve Reich spoke volumes as to the reach of their intellectual and artistic ambition. Indeed, though they were together for only three albums and a handful of singles, Nick Laird-Clowes, Kate St. John and Gilbert Gabriel left behind a body of work as captivating as that of any of their contemporaries, their solid songwriting, unusual arrangements and innovative production touches (thanks in part to co-producer David Gilmour of Pink Floyd) only sounding better with age. Now, Real Gone Music and Nick Laird-Clowes have joined forces to release the definitive Dream Academy collection, a 2-CD, 24-track set entitled The Morning Lasted All Day -- A Retrospective. Due out July 29, the release not only features such hits as "Life in a Northern Town" and "The Love Parade" and key album tracks, but also is chock-full of unreleased tracks, rare nuggets and even a new track, "Sunrising."
"I wanted this to be a definitive 'best of' that would also include a few key unreleased rarities for the people who really know our work," says Laird-Clowes. "I'm thrilled that I found some tracks that I think sit easily beside our best work so that any listener could enjoy the collection as a seamless whole." Indeed, The Morning Lasted All Day features such gems as the unreleased songs "Living in a War" (with David Gilmour on guitar), "The Chosen Few" (with Gilmour playing electric and slide guitar) and "The Last Day of the War" (a lost track recorded right after "Life in a Northern Town"); the unreleased and much requested instrumental of "Power to Believe" from the John Hughes-directed film Trains, Planes & Automobiles, co-produced by Hugh Padgham; the rare B-side "Girl in a Million," and the long-lost 12-inch side "The Demonstration."
What's more, careful listeners will also hear musical contributions from The Smiths' Johnny Marr, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, Polystyrene of X-Ray Spex and Eagles songwriter J.D. Souther, all of whose contributions are meticulously noted in Laird-Clowes' liner notes, which offer a look inside the artistic inspiration and recording process for each song as well as the stories behind the band's origins and three albums. Remastered and sequenced by Laird-Clowes, and sporting photos taken from the band's personal archive as well as from a lost session by the legendary Arthur Elgort, The Morning Lasted All Day just may be the best double-album released this year, new or old. - See more at: http://www.gratefulweb.com/articles/real-gone-music-july-29-2014-release-dream-academy-collection#sthash.MkdLHiO4.dpuf

The I-Loved-The-'80s, Just-Can't-Remember-Them-Much Summer Concert Guide
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wendi-aarons/80s-music-_b_5374751.html
Huffington Post, Posted: 06/02/2014 7:55 am EDT by Wendi Aarons and Nancy Davis Kho
Fleetwood Mac: Why is this the most expensive concert of the entire summer? Baby, I don't wanna know-oh. But we're guessing there's some kind of hazard pay involved to lure five musicians with a history of infighting back to the same stage. Will there be any songs that WON'T lead to sing-alongs and interpretive Stevie-ish dancing by audience members? Oh, God, no. This audience will even lose their s*** over "Tusk." Therefore, dress yourself in your gypsy-thrift-shop finest for maximum twirling. Or, if you're a man, pull your black leather blazer out of the attic and join Lindsey Buckingham in looking like a 65-year-old Narc.

I heard you got props from Paul McCartney backstage after the Grammy Invisible performance?
I saw him walking past and I wasn’t going to stop him. There were so many people around. I wanted to say something but I was like, ‘There was so much going on... If there’s another time, good Lord willing, I’ll be able to say hello.’ Sure enough, as soon as I made that decision, he made his way towards me. And he looked at me twice, sort of a double take kind of thing, walked over to me, and shook my hand, complimented the performance, complimented the song, and yeah just said a lot of really cool things. And ironically, I was standing outside of Lindsey Buckingham’s dressing room so I could say hello to him. So that was pretty friggin’ cool.

Didn't he put that album together mostly by himself? Yeah, Dave Fridmann mixed it, I believe. It definitely has that work of a crazy loner genius. There are lots of modern bands that I think are awesome, like MGMT. But most of our influences are pretty old. Most of the time we’re looking to classic rock. I’m actually shocked: when I look back at our entire career and I try and think of the most major influences on us, I really think they are ELO, Wings, and Lindsey Buckingham.
“Champions of Red Wine,” made me feel like I was listening to an updated version of [Fleetwood Mac's] Mirage. Oh, really? That’s good. That’s a huge compliment.

"Go Your Own Way" is Fleetwood Mac's most enduring song. It's not as rowdy as some of the other tracks on this list, but its cheery sound and Lindsey Buckingham's voice will keep you singing along if you start to fade.

What struck me about ‘The Dirty Truth’ is how the songwriting is the star and all your guitar playing serves the songs.
It's certainly been a conscious effort on my part to improve the songwriting and I think that comes from Dave Stewart. When I was signed to him I'd been singing a little bit but mostly just playing a lot of solos. He said to me: ‘You can play the best guitar solo in the world, but if it's not in a good song no one's ever going to hear it.’
He got me listening to guys like Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac - amazing guitar on Big Love and his solo live on Oh Well is probably one of the best versions I've ever heard. But they are encased in fantastic songs and they only add to the songs. I love a big guitar solo but sometimes you just don't need it, particularly for an album which is kind of like a snapshot.

'80s Halloween costume idea: Go as Lindsey Buckingham's hair
Kevin Wuench Friday, October 3, 2014 8:45am
With his work with Fleetwood Mac and his solo material, Buckingham built an impressive ‘80s resume, but not all of his singles were smashes as Slow Dancing only reached No. 106 on the charts in 1984. The video features Buckingham dancing with his ghost girl and staying in time despite his Eraserhead hair.
Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac have just started their comeback tour that includes the surprise return of Christine McVie and will conclude their North American tour on Dec. 20 at the former Tampa Bay Times Forum. http://www.lindseybuckingham.com/

Free has a really southern rock, almost country vibe too.
With that one we were listening to Fleetwood Mac's World Turning and Lindsey Buckingham's riff. I was like: “Man, that's wicked.” So we were sitting in our rehearsal room and I had the 12 string out and was trying to play this World Turning riff. I think I must have done something different and Jack said “play that again”, picked up his bass and started chugging it out, and that's how Freedom came about. It's got a bit of a Skynyrd feel to it.

So it goes without saying that I have a few suggestions for band choices for Spring Fling this year. These picks are staying within the realm of possibility. For the sake of venting though, anything involving Dave Grohl is more than welcome or even better, a supergroup lead by Freddie Mercury with Clapton and Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and John Bonham on drums (that last one might end up being a little overshadowed with the with news that someone at PSU figured out how to break the mortal coil, though).

The New Trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road Is Like Burning Man Gone Wrong
By Nate Jones
As Lindsey Buckingham never said, "It's a long way down Fury Road." The new Mad Max reboot has been described as "practically a feature-length chase scene," and that's certainly the case for the film's newest trailer, which is basically 100 percent crazy guys driving crazy convoys around a crazy desert. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron are the main actors, but we can all agree that the real star is whoever was in charge of making all those cars explode.

Anti Music 12/30/14

I'm a big Lindsey Buckingham fan, and fingerpicky, gangly Buckingham guitar bits have ended up in all my songs since about forever. I had been playing the front end of the chorus on guitar for a while before any other part of the song was written. It was nice to play; the energy of it was sweet but kind beat up and sad.
Originally, the tempo was twice as fast and I cut the track live with a band at this faster tempo. I experimented and brought it way back and found the pace there. It felt more stumbling to me, like the person in the tune and better matched the anger of the verses. It was less sun - more grease and dirt. Also, it fattened up Peter Kaufmann's drums.

It's just a little manic! I remember watching it live on TV. The announcers were so excited in anticipation for Lindsey to perform the song - expecting to hear the happy and warm vibes of the sing-along song. Then Lindsey comes out with a barely recognizable version, full of angst and intensity. When it was over, the announcers were visibly in shock and somewhat speechless. All they could say was something like "Well that was different." It was very funny!

Yes. I was baiting Chili and waiting for him to come back and denounce Lindsey's rendering, but he must not have seen my comment.
On Lindsey's Under the Skin tour, at the beginning of the tour, he'd come out and play Not Too Late very softly, a gentle opening of the evening. But by the end of the tour, he was screaming, yelping the verses. He just couldn't keep it in.

[LB supporting responsible gun legislation]
by Anita Busch February 24, 2015 5:18pm Deadline
http://deadline.com/2015/02/judd-apatow-gun-violence-prevention-1201380816/
Writer-director Judd Apatow is headlining a benefit tonight at Largo in Los Angeles for The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “Responsible gun laws are essential. It’s shocking that even after all the mass shootings that have happened that there isn’t more being done to make our country safer,” Apatow told Deadline. “I think they are a great force for good on that issue. And there’s so much good to be done. Most Americans can agree with what needs to be done, but the gun lobby is so strong and so influential with these politicians that nothing gets done. I’m not sure what it will take. But it’s an important battle not to give up on.”
Apatow said that he has been doing shows at Largo almost every other week for charity so he picks charities that he cares about. How did he get involved with doing a benefit for Brady? “Adam McKay did an event with them last year and talked to me about their work,” he said.
Apatow is the latest in a long list of celebs who have offered their assistance in gun violence prevention through various organizations including Mom’s Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety. Families of mass shootings often speak about the hope one day for all of these various groups to join together to unite into one powerful force.
The show, which starts tonight at 8:30 PM (with doors opening at 7 PM) is called “An Evening with Judd Apatow and Friends.” Who are those friends? Norm MacDonald, John Doe, Natasha Leggero and Andy Kinzler. There are still a few tickets available, Apatow said.
Others who have stood up and lent their celebrity to responsible gun legislation issue include this past weekend’s Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore (Still Alice) and Oscar-nominated Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher) whose brother was murdered. Those who have come forward specifically to help with benefits for the Brady Center include Garry Shandling, Adam Sandler, Lindsey Buckingham, Ryan Adams, David Spade and Jackson Browne to name a few.

6:07 Hello, Lindsey Buckingham! In 1985, Fleetwood Mac was on hiatus (between 1982's Mirage and 1987's Tango in the Night); Buckingham had put out the modestly successful Go Insane solo album in 1984. He was one of the first artists to commit to show up, being a client of Kragen, but was consigned to the chorus. Buckingham says that one of his most enduring memories of the day was running into Michael Jackson in the bathroom: "It kind of freaked him out! He was quite nervous, just to be startled by someone walking in, and I just nodded my head."

That doesn't mean The Ting Tings aren't trying, she says. She and DeMartino already are writing the next disc. She says their new obsession is Fleetwood Mac, and they're deciding on a new locale to record.
"It'd be amazing to kind of stalk someone like Lindsey Buckingham," she says. "We've never worked with anybody in the studio before apart from Andy, and we had such an amazing time in the studio, I think we're quite open to doing more collaboration."

“Rosie” sounds nice, until you realize it sounds like that particular bunny-eared cartoon character is now dueting with Kenny Loggins. Lee’s vocals, well-done as they are, do have a bit of a Loggins-like quality, which is not really anyone’s fault, but it’s hard to shake this feeling, at times. (There’s also a bit of Lindsey Buckingham in there, too, which is more desirable.)

In fact, most of the songs have been plucked straight out of the Watkins Family Hour regular repertoire, capturing a snapshot of what that little Los Angeles club might have sounded like on any given month.
It comes across loud and clear on "Steal Your Heart Away," which features Sara's crisp vocals on the 2003 Fleetwood Mac track and chugs along with slinky steel guitar and her signature lyrical fiddle. (Listen to the track below.) It's more a roadmap of what to expect live than a definitive version — playfully loose thanks to recording the Watkins Family Hour live in-studio in only three days.
Listen to "Steal Your Heart Away," below, which is now also available on iTunes. Watkins Family Hour will be released July 24th on Family Hour Records via Thirty Tigers.

Guitar: This is Captain America, looking on disapprovingly at Iron Man’s actions in a way not all that dissimilar from the relationship Russell and Jeff of Stillwater had in Almost Famous. The two of them would have more than a couple dust-ups in dressing rooms about onstage antics and who really is the face of the band. Cap wouldn’t be a flashy guitarist along the lines of Eddie Van Halen or Pete Townshend. He’d be more of a Lindsey Buckingham, technically sound, but not someone who’d adorn the walls of teenagers. He’d also be the first one to release a solo album, acoustic songs meant to show off his softer side. It would not be successful.

The DIY Designer: "Go Your Own Way" dresser
ByJenna LaFevor- Published on May 2, 2015 Nooga

Music is one of my most favorite things in the entire world. And I’m not picky. You could easily find Conway Twitty, Nelly and Aerosmith on any given playlist of mine.
One of my favorite things to do is to work music into my décor. You can spot lyrics as wall décor around my whole house, as well as album covers. My latest music-inspired piece was this "Go Your Own Way" dresser.
Not including drying time, it took about 30 minutes to add a little Fleetwood Mac to this piece.
Here's what you'll need:
•FrogTape, 0.94-inch width
•White paint (or another color of your choice for the arrows and wording)
•Paintbrush
•Ruler
•Utility knife or craft knife
•Letter stencils
•Sponge pouncer
Step one
Before starting, give your surface a quick cleaning to remove any dirt or dust. Apply FrogTape to your surface wherever you would like your arrows, as shown below.
I didn't worry about measuring exactly with these arrows. I just eyeballed it.
Step two
Using a ruler and a craft knife or utility knife, straighten up the points of the arrows. After you trim up your edges, run a credit card along the edges of the tape to make sure it is fully adhered to the surface.
Step three
Paint inside the FrogTape. My arrows took about three light coats of paint to get even. After the final coat, immediately remove the FrogTape.
Step four
Place the letter stencils wherever you would like them. Use a sponge pouncer to paint within the stencils. Let it all dry.
I had a little open space beside this dresser, so I opted to style it up with my grandmother's guitar and a few records.
Anyplace you could add some easy painted arrows?
More furniture makeovers are here.

He came up to me and said ‘Hi.’ He was gorgeous and charming. He picked up that I was a homeless runaway and was really sympathetic. I thought, ‘Gosh, somebody finally understands and cares.’”

Lindsey Graham Tweeted "Sorry, Lindsay Lohan" About His Newfound Fame & It Was Pretty Much The Best
On Monday, Lindsey Graham thrust himself into the national spotlight when he announced his candidacy for the Republican primary, and now all kinds of delicious details about the South Carolina senator are coming out of the woodwork. Besides the fact that he’s the only bachelor running for president, it’s recently come to light that Graham’s Twitter game is strong. Earlier this month, before he had announced his candidacy, Lindsey Graham compared himself to Lindsay Lohan on Twitter. Unbeknownst to all of us, he had straight-up slayed the platform and we’ve all been tossing empty words into a cyberspace pit since then because nothing else will matter ever again after that Lohan comparison.
It all started with a BuzzFeed article. On May 18, BuzzFeed posted a quiz titled “Who Is Lindsey Graham?” One might expect it to be a straightforward profile of the senator, but the subtitle read “I’m asking you. Do you know?” Pegged to his presumed presidential bid, the quiz then asked readers to select who Lindsey Graham was out of four choices: a picture of singer Lindsey Buckingham, a picture of graham crackers, a picture of Lindsay Lohan, and finally, a picture of the real Lindsey Graham.

If Lindsey Buckingham had written “Less Than Zero,” instead of Elvis Costello, the result might have sounded very much like “Mrs. Peel,” from the Cretones’ Thin Red Line album. Released on Planet Records in the spring of 1980, this was the debut from a band of seasoned L.A. musicians clearly in love with the new wave sounds coming out of Great Britain.

When I spoke to Ricky, he told me that Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is one of his biggest influences. Looking at the list above, you can hear elements of all of them in their music. Ricky plays mostly notation on his guitar and it is very reminiscent of songs like "Reptile" by the Church, and anything off "Pygmalion" by Slowdive.

Musically, the band run through these mostly slow to midtempo songs in their familiarly tasteful, SoCal alt-country way. Goldsmith is a guitarist worth listening too, mixing the bright tonality of Lindsey Buckingham and the flinty probing of Neil Young in equal measure. The Hammond organ swells add the right measure of backporch comfort.

Bleachers opened with pop rock made for stadiums. It’s a shame radio doesn’t push stadium anthems today. Frontman Jack Antonoff had the right idea with a Fleetwood Mac cover, but he doesn’t have the pipes for “Go Your Own Way.” Stick to the originals, they’re good. Not Fleetwood Mac good, but what is? Oh, yeah, Billy Joel.

You were listening to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” prior to recording. What made you gravitate to that song?
I always really liked Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks in particular. I have a penchant for their drama. I live in a band that is also my family. Things can get really strange and I love that about bands. I met [Fleetwood Mac’s] Lindsey Buckingham backstage at a Dave Matthews concert and he was so cool and so inspired. I went back to the dressing room and put my headphones on and started listening to “The Chain.” I realized, “We need to cover this song and it represents our band in a way that I can’t really explain.” It was fertile ground for something that happened on The Firewatcher’s Daughter.

While it is always interesting to see Harry Styles hang out with Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones or Niall Horan rubbing elbows with Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac — some One Direction fans are downright shocking because they appear to be mismatched with your typical 1D fan.
For example, One Direction fans recently learned that they were adored by Johnny Rotten. Ask any punk kid if they love One Direction — and they will likely say a firm “no.” Alternatively, they should consider that one of their punk forefathers thinks they are truly something special.

My dad was a certain kind of guy. He was a Vietnam vet, smart as hell with no formal education. He drank himself to death and had a good time doing it. He always told me that Television was the best band he’d seen live, and that he’d fallen in love with my mom, who died when I was four years old, on their first date, when she fell asleep during an Elvis Costello concert. He took road trips to Civil War battlefields. He was a heavy hitter on the Journal’s softball team. He was Irish American and hated, in roughly descending order, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and Morrissey. He blasted solo Lindsey Buckingham from his JBL speakers.

One of LeBlanc’s musical heroes is Lindsey Buckingham, who plays with Fleetwood Mac and also has a solo career. She loves his fingerpicking. And she admires the way he offers passionate performances for such songs as Big Love. That’s what LeBlanc aspires to, as well. “You know when someone’s completely sincere and completely 110 per cent into it,” she said. “I like someone who has their heart out and is completely transparent.” - See more at: http://www.timescolonist.com/entertainment/music/lisa-leblanc-mixes-sounds-to-create-folk-trash-1.2048669#sthash.pWo90Y2U.dpuf

Christie Brinkley Gets Back on Lindsey Buckingham’s ‘Holiday Road’ in New Commercial
By Dave Swanson September 23, 2015 8:37 AM
<iframe width="630" height="354" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2_uFOezHyO4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
A new ad for the Infiniti QX60 is in full flashback mode, paying tribute to the classic 1983 film, National Lampoon’s Vacation in both sound and vision. The commercial, which you can watch above, uses Lindsey Buckingham‘s ”Holiday Road.”
Of all the scenes in the film, one that has stuck in the mass psyche is where Chevy Chase, as Clark Griswold, and family are heading down the highway as he spots a beautiful blonde (Christie Brinkley) in a red Ferrari convertible The two flirt with each other while driving, and then hi-jinks ensue.
In this new ad, that scene is re-enacted, this time with Ethan Embry, who played Clark’s son, Rusty in the third installment of the Vacation franchise, 1997′s Vegas Vacation, as the husband and father. Here he laughs with and smiles with the blonde in the red convertible, when suddenly he is interrupted by his wife, now played by Brinkley. She calls him on it, saying, “Honey, a blonde in a convertible? Seriously?”
Meanwhile, we hear the familiar ring of “Holiday Road,” a song written and performed by Fleetwood Mac‘s Buckingham in the original film. The song made a small dent back in 1983, hitting No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100, but has become an iconic traveling song in the years since. Though it was used again in the Vacation sequels, including the 2015 update of the film, the one used in this ad is not Buckingham. It’s a fairly faithful take on the pop classic, but to be honest, it hasn’t been revealed who is singing this version.

But the real showstopper was Chittester’s rendition of Lindsey Buckingham’s (Fleetwood Mac) “Big Love,” which allowed her to stretch both her voice and her fingers. She also bounded across the altar, hefting her Takamine skyward, digits dancing across the strings beneath her capo.

THE GO-BETWEENS BEFORE HOLLYWOOD ROUGH TRADE 1983
After a clutch of cult singles and a good, if rather awkward, debut album (1981’s Send Me A Lullaby), Robert Forster, Grant McLennan and drummer Lindy Morrison fetch up in London and sign to Rough Trade. Soon, they are dispatched to Eastbourne, where Forster and McLennan’s timeless songcraft is uncovered by their first proper producer.
We had to make a classic. Our first album was not a classic album, and you don’t know how many chances you’re going to get. We’d never really worked with a producer, and we talked with Geoff Travis about our fantasy candidates, people like Lindsey Buckingham and Robbie Robertson. But John Brand walked into our rehearsal room, taped us, then walked back the next day with the songs written out and with arrangement ideas; no one had ever done that with our music.
John had been working for Virgin with groups like Magazine and XTC, and realised everything we were doing was in fours and eights, it was all classic. That’s what Grant and I had been brought up on: Neil Diamond writing for the Monkees, the first Blondie Album, David Bowie, Creedence. We knew how songs were constructed.
And so Grant and I had the songs, most of them written in London and then recorded in Eastbourne. The studio was called ICC, a very good Christian studio that no longer exists; 24-track, two-inch tape. I don’t know how John found it. The album he did before Before Hollywood was High Land, Hard Rain, Aztec Camera walked out the door and we walked in, and John made two classics.
It was the album we always thought we could make, and a very big sonic jump from Send Me A Lullaby. I don’t know if we made a jump like that in the rest of our career, except maybe to 16 Lovers Lane.

^ - The Go-Betweens with their inner-band relationships, breakups and turning those into songs curiously mirror Fleetwood Mac. In a more just world, 16 Lovers Lane would have sold at least a decent fraction of what Rumours did, instead of the even lesser numbers it managed.
Them being fans of Lindsey's production isn't surprising, as they also used layered, trebly sounds.

When Springsteen contacted Lofgren about the tour, Lofgren put his own solo tour — including a scheduled Dallas stop — on hold to rejoin the E Streeters. It’s an example of what Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham calls “The Big Machine and The Small Machine” — being part of a massively popular act, but also trying to maintain an identity as a solo artist.

First guitars and onstage mishaps
5. Is there an aspect of guitar playing that you'd like to be better at?
"I'd like to improve my fingerpicking techniques. Recently, I've been taking inspiration from Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham (particularly from his songs Never Going Back and the acoustic version of Big Love). I'm inspired by how he plays three different guitar parts on one guitar - it's genius. I'm definitely improving, but there's still a long way to go."

“My tune ‘Ouray’ is, in fact, the first instrumental acoustic guitar piece that I wrote,” McKee tells Acoustic Guitar. “It was inspired by a trip to a small village in Colorado called Ouray many years ago. Technically speaking, this tune is heavily influenced by the playing of Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac. In fact, I borrowed the tuning ‘CGDGBE’ from him — he used it on his tune ‘Never Going Back Again’ from the Rumors album.”

[interview with Bleached]
DL: When I listen to the record, I think it almost sounds like an almost punk version of Fleetwood Mac. Is that off-the-wall?
Jennifer: No, not at all.
Jessica: I feel like that's totally dead-on.
Jennifer: The first time I ever heard Fleetwood Mac, I was going through my parents' records, and I was like older, and I had just gotten out of high school, and I was like, "I want to try listening to this band Fleetwood Mac. I feel like I want to know what they’re about." And then I listened to "Tusk," and I was like, "Oh my God, this is so punk!" I felt like it was this secret punk record that I had just discovered.
Jessica: [Laughs]
Jennifer: And when I did some reading about it, I learned that Lindsey Buckingham was inspired by the whole post-punk scene in England, so I was like, "OK, that makes sense." I don't know -- I think coming from loving punk so much, and finding Fleetwood Mac, and the harmonies and the melodies and the guitar sounds and the synths -- it all just blew me away. I never thought I would like music like that. I thought I was punk for life [laughs].
DL: Well, the record has been really well-received. Have you seen any bad press on the band? Do you bother reading that stuff?
Jennifer: I don't really read our reviews that often. But, really, the only negative thing I'll see is someone being really mean in a comment or something.
DL: Oh, yeah, comment sections are the garbage cans of the world.

[Guy Names BBQ After Lindsey]

Barbecue that rocks: After 20 years of traveling with rock bands, barbecue expert Mark Brown settles down in Columbia
The Buckingham Smokehouse Bar-B-Q logo is inspired by Lindsey Buckingham’s 1993 solo tour. Buckingham is a member of Fleetwood Mac.
Although his rock ’n’ roll days are over, Brown’s restaurant sports mementos from his past. The name Buckingham comes from Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham; the logo of the cowboy riding the pig is an image from Buckingham’s 1993 tour. Brown calls his horseradish coleslaw the “Barry White” coleslaw because he once paid a Cincinnati barbecue cook $100 and two Barry White stage passes in exchange for the recipe. Brown also sells Show-Me Liquid Smoke, something he used to tote during his tour days, along with other local and regional spice rubs and barbecue sauces.

Electronic R&B Artist Jessy Lanza Wants to Make You Dance
http://www.villagevoice.com/music/electronic-randb-artist-jessy-lanza-wants-to-make-you-dance-8678284
'I was really focused on this idea that I wanted to make a record that was at least a lot poppier than the first one," says Jessy Lanza. The genre-blurring singer and producer is referring to her debut album, Pull My Hair Back, which was nominated for the 2014 Canadian Polaris prize — a big deal in Canada, where I'm from. I've managed to catch her on the phone at the beginning of her European tour to promote her new album, Oh No, freshly out from U.K. dance label Hyperdub. She's a long way from her home in Hamilton, Ontario, getting ready to play the second of back-to-back sold-out shows in London before she hits New York in July.
"It takes a lot of concentration and energy to deliver a whole set of slow burners," she says, referring to the minimalist, atmospheric tracks that made up most of her first album, which featured sultry rhythms and basslines layered under sparse vocals that owed a debt to Nineties r&b. "It takes a lot of energy to do fast songs too, but usually those songs get the audience going as well, so you can kind of feed off that."
She answers my questions cheerfully, but occasionally I can hear Lanza stifle a yawn, the fatigue from a busy few months catching up with her. She already toured Europe earlier this spring, opening for Junior Boys; Lanza frequently works closely with the electropop duo's Jeremy Greenspan, with whom she co-wrote and produced both her albums. (Lanza credits him with penning Oh No's title track. "I actually have no idea what that song's about," she says with a laugh. Greenspan, for his part, tells the Voice that the songs he writes for her "can go in different directions depending on Jessy's ideas or enthusiasm.")
Oh No is filled with nods to different genres and influences. It's the type of album that could soundtrack both a trendy gallery opening and a rooftop party, one that rewards careful listening but doesn't require it. Sure, it has a few slower jams — the mellow "I Talk BB" sounds like it could have been written for Pull My Hair Back — but Lanza mostly shows she's ready to let loose. In "VV Violence" (the "VV" stands for "very very"), she breaks out of her trademark high, breathy vocal register to open with the bratty chant, "Yeah, I say it to your face, but it doesn't mean a thing, no!" before rolling into an infectious, make-your-foot-tap drumbeat.
"Her sound has grown, evolved, and maybe sounds a bit more confident than the first album," says Kode9 (né Steve Goodman), the London-based DJ and owner of Hyperdub. "She shares elements with Prince, Eighties boogie, freestyle, Patrice Rushen, and r&b vocalists, in particular Aaliyah."
Lanza's electronic influences, it might be argued, come — at least indirectly — from her father, who ran a speaker rental business that served as a de facto crash course in electronic music production. (He and her mother were also both musicians, mostly playing in cover bands.) "[My father] bought synthesizers and drum machines," she says. "That sort of stuff was always around my house, but I didn't really take an interest in actually learning how to use it until, like, seven or eight years ago."
Instead, she first went on to study classical and jazz piano. But Lanza kept an open mind when approaching different genres. An uncle who lived in Japan introduced her to 1980s-era Japanese pop; she credits the Tokyo-based electro group Yellow Magic Orchestra as being a major influence on Oh No, and lately she has become obsessed with the legendary and prolific Akiko Yano's frenetic 1981 album, Tadaima. She also admits to listening to a lot of AM radio in Hamilton, which keeps 1970s acts like James Taylor and Steely Dan in heavy rotation. "I'm a big sucker for solo Lindsey Buckingham records," Lanza says. "Maybe that's not surprising, though."
Hamilton, a sleepy industrial city with a burgeoning arts scene located just southeast of Toronto, ended up being hospitable to her experimental urges. It's where she met Greenspan, as well as composer Dan Snaith, who performs under the stage name Caribou. "Jessy has a unique combination of skills as an artist," Snaith tells the Voice via email. She knows a ton about recorded music and has a "traditional harmonic and melodic" songwriting instinct, he says. "Crucially, though, she can take all that knowledge and distill it with her own sensibility to make something unique."
That's evident on the new record, which regularly approaches familiar pop territory only to make a sharp turn with a sudden vocal squeak or an uncanny rhythm pattern. It was while touring with Caribou that Lanza was inspired to venture into more dance-friendly pop. "Just seeing people respond to [Caribou] every night, there was an amount of energy that, when playing myself, I don't think I quite experienced," she says. "I absorbed that in some way, just this envy of wanting to be the one to make people really lose their minds."
Though Lanza still has a summer of touring ahead, Oh No has already proven itself to be another critical hit, an amalgam of niche international and anachronistic influences seamlessly blended into ten relatively accessible tracks. Canada has already excitedly laid claim to her artistry (as we do), but now she's primed to take over the rest of the world. As for how successfully it holds up as a dance record? That's for the audience to decide.

Thirty years ago, to the casual observer, his debut album’s cover gave little hint of the popular image seared in the mind when it comes to Lyle Lovett.
Photographed in profile, there was no sign of the wry crooked grin or wiry, gravity-defying hair reaching for the ceiling.
Instead, as if on good behavior, he maybe favored a poor man’s Lindsey Buckingham.

[excerpt from an interview with Hamilton Leithauser and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij
Do you think being that adaptable to your surroundings allows you to get that much more done?
Rostam: Yeah, I think so. For me, recording music is a part of most days in my life. I find some way to record something, whether it's in my living room with my iPhone or in my studio cutting vocals or going to a studio and recording drums. It's some part of my life. I think that's true of a lot of young people that have used computers to make music. I read an interview with Flume where he wrote a lot of music on his laptop while riding on trains in Europe.
Yeah, I can't see some of the old-timers like George Martin trying to use an iPhone on a train as a way of producing music.
Rostam: Yes, except there are all of those stories about Lindsey Buckingham making most of Tusk in his house all alone. It sounds radically different from song to song, and there are myths that some of them are all Lindsey—he played all of the instruments and recorded it all by himself at his house. It's in the tradition of that.

“The guitar player we have is absolutely amazing. He has everything down pat, what Lindsey Buckingham does,” Pesavento said. “What a lot of people don’t know is that Lindsey brings about 14 guitars with him to every show. Basically he uses seven guitars throughout his show all tuned differently for the specific songs that he has and obviously a backup for each one. Our guitar player will have six different guitars onstage and they’re all tuned identically to Lindsey’s.”

Yes. If it's a whole book, I would get a kick out of their animal adventures.
Poor Lindsey, with nothing to do he has been at home, doing laundry, trying to get the whites whiter and amusing himself.

Because youtube has been bombarding me with LB clips lately, I was watching one in which he talks about his kids and touring, how he talks to them every day when he's on the road, sometimes twice a day. And he said if he felt his being gone was impacting them negatively in any way then he would stop doing it (the big tours) and find other ways to work. And seeing previously that clip of him with his son when they get hit on by TMZ, he seems like he has genuinely mellowed in his personal life. (I don't doubt he can still be quite terse and harsh in the studio, but that's work). Though change comes from within, clearly he has also changed because of his relationship and children. So while one may or may not find her appealing or ever want to be friends with her, he loves her and has been with her like 17 or 18 years now. She clearly brought something good to the equation.

Whilst there's no doubt many/most/all of his early songs would have been about Stevie do we know that he's actually suggested his material over the last 20 years has been about her also? I'd be more inclined to think any occasional reference he's made to all be part of the shtick.

Well, you see I do have some doubt that LB's 3 EP songs are specifically about Stevie. Though he may have intimated at the time they were about her, really I suspect that's just to fit the Lindsey/Stevie narrative for the benefit of the band. Actually (and I'm not exactly a Lindsey Buckingham expert) I reckon the lyrics to those songs are really quite generic and could apply to anyone and no-one. Though Sad Angel in particular is deemed to sound 'Fleetwood Maccy' the words to the song itself are quite in keeping with solo songs. You could probably pick a random selection of LB songs from the past 20 years and justify why the lyrics to all of them are about SN- that doesn't mean they really are about her, no matter what people may think.
Christine openly admits she never really writes songs about anyone in particular- she just writes generic love songs. I suspect that's the case these days with Lindsey- he's been doing it so long he doesn't need a muse or spark of inspiration to come up with ideas. If at any time he needs them to be about SN then he can twist the words to suit the agenda.

I remember reading some articles in which Lindsey did say that the EP songs are written for and/or about Stevie, but they're also written so that they could appeal to her, here are some I just found:
Stevie Nicks arrived at the sessions towards the end, and Buckingham presented her with "Sad Angel." "I wrote that song for Stevie," he says. "She always had to fight for everything. She was coming off a solo album and was in the process of reintegrating herself mentally in the band, and we're all warriors with a sword in one sort or another. She and I have known each other since high school. So I just wrote, 'Sad Angel have you come to fight the war/We fall to earth together, the crowd calling out for more.'"
Like many of the group's greatest songs, "Sad Angel" reflects on Lindsey and Stevie's complex relationship. "All these years later, we are still writing songs that are dialogues for each other," he says. "That was part of the appeal of Rumours, and of the group in general . . . Of all the things we cut, 'Sad Angel' was, for lack of a better term, the most Fleetwood Mac-y. It was really kind of the best stuff that we have done in a while." [...] The show wraps with "Say Goodbye," the only song of the night drawn from the group's 2003 LP Say You Will. "As I said, Stevie and I have probably more of a connection now than we have in years," says Buckingham. "You can feel it. It's tangible on stage. In many ways, that song is the embodiment of that. When you look at 'Without You,' it's Stevie writing a song about me when everything was before us and all those illusions were intact. 'Say Goodbye' was written 10 years ago, when most of our experience together was behind us. Part of those illusions had fallen away."
Much of their story may be behind them, but Lindsey and Stevie are still taking the stage together night after night and collaborating on new material. "It was difficult for years to get complete closure," Buckingham says. "There was never any time to not be together. It was kind of like picking the scab off an open wound again and again. That's part of the legacy of the band. But 'Say Goodbye' is a very sweet song, and it's about her: 'Once you said goodbye to me/Now I say goodbye to you.' It took a long time. All those illusions have fallen away, but that doesn't mean that there isn't resolve and hope and belief in the future in a different context. That's really what the song is about, and we end the set with just the two of us singing that song."

“Extended Play,” a four-song EP with your first new music in 10 years, came out on April 30 and landed in iTunes top 10. How gratifying was it that people were so eager to hear new music?
I haven”t paid too much attention to how things are going with it because, really, Mick [Fleetwood] and John [McVie] and I got together last year and we cut a bunch of tracks and then Stevie came to the table later. Even early on, Mick and John and I felt that the songs that we were doing were some of the best stuff we”d done in quite a while.
I am also happy with what it represents with the subject matter. The dialogues to Stevie that are, miraculously, still going on back and forth between Stevie and myself after all these years, I find that to be quite touching and somewhat surprising- something that neither one of us would have predicted years and years ago that we”d still somehow be driving each other”s motivation from a distance, and so I”m very happy with the way the EP turned out and it”s great to be doing some new things on stage.
You wrote one of the new songs, “Sad Angel,” for Stevie. What was her reaction when she first heard it?
I was not there, but I believe she latched onto it immediately. [When] that song was written, I was trying to reach out to her a little bit… she had a very good experience making her solo album [2011″s “In Your Dreams”] and it took her awhile to kind of sort of ease into the mentality of being in Fleetwood Mac again this time… That was a song to help lure her in a little bit, not that there was an agenda to do that, but it just seemed appropriate to what was going on at the time… “Hello Sad Angel, have you come to fight the war” and “Here we are, we fall to earth together/the crowd calling out for more.” It”s really sort of sweet that all of this is still taking place.
With piano ballad “It Takes Time,” you”re pleading for patience to someone who wants to heal you. What’s that about?
I guess the reflection is that I”m actually looking at some of the actions that I”ve taken over the years and maybe judging them more objectively and maybe getting to a point in one”s life where you can look back and say, “Hmmm, maybe I could have done that differently” and acknowledging that much of the motivation that has driven certain creative actions and certain decisions has come from that dialogue that seems to have unfolded in slow motion over a period of many years. We are still somehow on a road of evolvement.
Is that one about Stevie?
I would think so.
It”s not the only relationship you”ve had, so I wasn”t sure.
But, you know, you can slip into these roles and it”s not that the feelings that you have aren”t… it doesn”t mean they are any less authentic. But at this point, to some degree, what Stevie and I have, we”ve played these characters for so long, you know, and it doesn”t threaten anything having to do with my home life, my wife completely understands the dynamic of it. There”s a certain aspect of professionalism to it.
Do you feel that in some way now it”s part of your role to keep playing into this mythology?
Well, it”s a mixed bag. There is the mythology and there is, you could call it, a role, but you know that doesn”t mean we haven”t lived it. If you backtrack all the way back to “Rumours,” when all of this mythology rose up, if you look at the appeal of that album, it went beyond the music. It was, whether people could identify it or not, this idea that under less than ideal circumstances, in fact, under quite emotionally challenging and painful circumstances, that we were able to somehow summon up the strength to rise above that and to sort of follow through on what we needed to do fulfill our destiny, if you want to call it that. And so the subtext of “Rumours” becomes not the soap opera part so much as that it was an act of will and that has continued. Where reality stops and where the role begins, it”s a little fuzzy in there, you know.
[...]
“Extended Play” also features “Miss Fantasy,” a new track with very classic Fleetwood Mac harmonies. How did that come about? ??
That was sort of in a moment when I”d had some interaction with Stevie where I felt like I was tapping into the whole lexicon of memories and of emotional connections going all the way back to before she and I were a couple. She was really much caught up in the world of her solo effort. It was right at the end of that and I felt like it was hard to kind of find her in all of that or that perhaps more accurately, it was harder for her to find me, and the person that she knew and trusted and so you know, “Miss Fantasy,” it may be “you don”t remember me/but I remember you” and that”s really what that”s about.

Well, we'll never quite know but I'm personally not convinced. Not only Lindsey but also Mick said those songs where about the two of them. Of course Mick's opinion could also fit into the "for the benefit of the band" category, but I can't distrust everybody.
Lindsey called Stevie "Sad Angel" during the MSG 2013 show. That's why I think that song is about her.

Have not seen her Twitter account. As a licensed business, she can hire a registered Archtitect for any projects that may involve structural or building code issues. However, the individual Architect must be registered with the state.
Not sure of the purpose of these posts. I had only one interaction with Kristen. Before a concert in Milwaukee, she was visiting with a friend (might be from the area). My daughter asked her to go backstage and get Lindsey to sign a photo, and she obliged and seemed very pleasant.
For what it is worth, the Stevie bashing on the Rumours board is in poor taste (and I am not a Stevie fan).

Probably both are over-sensitive - including myself. I usually just wait for Elle to respond to any potentially disparaging LB comments (not that yours were, I likely just mis-interpreted some comments as "wife hate" - criticism comes with the territory as an artist or public figure, but comments about family members crosses the line in my opinion).

i think Lindsey's lyrics got immensely better in the 90s, at the time he was writing GOS1 songs. much stronger lyrics, with layers of meanings in many of his songs since then.
there was a story that at the time of Rumours he'd write a sentence on the piece of paper, tear the paper in individual words, and give each word to someone to make a new sentence around it, and then he'd use those sentences for his verses.
Hey, I like the EP! :)

:woohoo::wavey: me too, i like his 3 songs on the EP. but only 2 were really finished, ITT was thrown in haphazardly. that's why i think it's good that SN didn't in the end agree to the FM album - because it would be haphazardly put together, like SYW and EP were. i think (i hope!) that BuckVie album will actually be cohesive, something we didn't get from not-quite-successfully-compromising Buck Nicks combo in the last few decades.

I don't think she's a designer with a particularly large amount of clients, probably because it doesn't seem like she had much of a 'design education'. It seems like they buy houses, she decorates them, and then they sell them. Like how a rich person becomes a designer basically.

Because KB was a photographer originally when she met LB, is that correct? Has any of her photography portfolio ever come to light....I'd like to see it.
I find her interior design work a bit intense though and I feel if I sat in one of her designed living rooms I'd get a headache straight away with so much contrasting colour and texture going on.....
