I have only heard his name in reference to PG on this message board. I do not ever remember him touring in the states. (He might have changed his name to something more exotic AKA Engelbert Gordon or Washtub Smith or something)
It has been my experience, that many a fine blues player ends up having another life when the Blues booms ebb and flow. There was never, until recently much of a financial inducement to the professional persuit of this (at least in the states)

Does anyone have any recent info on him? I am curious and hope to listen to his stuff now that Blue Horizon continues to re release it's catalogue

Gordons album on Blue Horizon is really great, and I'm glad it is finally being reissued. And with a lot of bonus tracks too!

Gordon later played on Kevin Coyne's album Marjorie Razorblade in 1973.

I have now said this on three consecutive posts

thank you. monkeydevil and norton.

I will have to obtain more music

I notice blues in a bottle, goodnight irene, and police dog blues, two of my favorites that I try to cover now and again

I always like to hear these through different interpretations

Got my copy of this today and originally got excited about a previously unreleased track on it called "When you got a good friend" since the liner notes list this track as being recorded at the same session Mick, John & Peter were at to record with Gordon (at which they recorded the 3 tracks they were on that were released on "Long Overdue") but on listening to this new previously unreleased track (WYGAGF), it sounds like it's just Gordon on guitar & vocals and Derek Hall on piano on that track, so this isn't really an unearthed PG/MF/JM track (in case anyone was going to buy it for that reason, thought I'd say this here to save you the money). I'm still happy I have this though to get the 3 LO tracks on CD anyways. :)

GORDON SMITH is the REAL DEAL.

Described by John Peel as " The foremost white Blues guitarist in the world ", Gordon is also one of the country's greatest Blues vocalists.

His 1968 debut album 'Long Overdue' was produced by Mike Vernon for the legendary Blue Horizon label, and featured members of Fleetwood Mac, including Peter Green. For years this album has been a collector's classic, but it is now due to be re-released by Mike Vernon along with other vintage Blue Horizon recordings.

During the 70's,Gordon was a member of 'The Kevin Coyne Band’ with whom he recorded several albums for Virgin,as well as a couple of his own for the Italian label Appaloosa, and in the 90's a solo country Blues album 'Out of the Bottleneck'.

Gordon is now back with these brand-new recordings made for Note Records, on which he is accompanied by some of London's finest Blues musicians. These tracks reflect his passion for both country and electric traditions, and really are 'Essential' for all lovers of quality Blues.
