start on Wednesday, what are your predictions?

National League (Best of 5)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Cubs beat the Dodgers 3-1
Phillies sweep the Brewers 3-0

American League (Best of 5)

Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (aka the CALIFORNIA Angels)
Chicago White Sux/Minnesota Twins* vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Red Sox beat the Angels 3-1

*Depending on who wins the AL Central (I'm pulling for the Tigers tomorrow to BEAT the Sux and shut 'em out of the playoffs)

Tampa sweeps the Sux 3-0 (Ozzie Guillen spontaneously combusts as the last out is made...No need to 'fire' him now)
Tampa beats the Twins 3-2

NLCS (Best of 7)
Cubs beat the Phillies 4-2

ALCS (Best of 7)
Red Sox beat the Rays 4-3

World Series (Best of 7)
Cubs beat the Red Sox 4-1 (The 'curse' and the Red Sox 'dynasty' both END!)

but I love my Cubs.

I think the Phillies have the best offense right now that could carry them to the World Series, but I worry about their pitching.

Hey, At least the Mets didnt make it (Collapse #2 for the second year in a row) thanks to the mighty Marlins!!!

That's the White Sox. Thanks. No need for poor sportsmanship.

^^^Cubs diehards cant be sporty to that other team across town...Nor do they care for us either, which is fine (Rather lose a World Series fair and square to a better team instead of THROW one, Right 'Shoeless Joe'? :D )

I have ZERO respect for a team whose fans run onto the field and attack an opposing teams first base coach, I'd rather cheer for the CLASS-ACT Cards (A great rival) than the team that plays in the (Appropriate named) "The Cell" (Wow, what irony that their uniforms are Prisoner faves Black & White)

And once more, for the baseball purists...
Comiskey Park=Home of Disco Demolition Night
Late 70's/Early 80's White Sux uniforms = Pajamas or Softball uniforms...I still cant tell
Ken "the CROCK" Harrelson = The WORST TV announcer in MLB - Under his GMing stint in 86 fired Tony LaRussa, who was hired by the A's and led Oakland to 3 AL pennants (When the CROCK took over I QUIT being a Sox fan and because a SUX hater..."And he can shove that up his BOARD, YES!")

Perhaps you should relax. I don't hate the Cubs, in fact I even live on the North Side. I also have friends who are Cubs fans and can resort to discussing the game rather than name calling. I've been to many Cubs and Sox games, bad behavior is not limited to Sox fans. It's fans like you who are just plain mean-spirited that ruin the experience for everyone.

The fact that your are judging a whole group of people based on what sports team they root for seems a little sad.

estranged4life
09-28-2008, 11:07 PM
^^^
I am relaxed, I just like to rib the SUX fans the same way they rib us "Lovable Losers" :D (Similar to the way Yankees and Mets fans rip one another - Not mean spirited as much as showing true blue loyalty)

I live in Oklahoma, and when the SUX played a pre-season game here this spring (At the Bricktown Ballpark) they were BOOED out of the stadium - You think I tough on 'em, you aint seen nothing then (OKC is currently a Texas Rangers city due to the affiliation with the Oklahoma Redhawks, formerly a Cleveland Indians affiliate...We know HOW much those Southsiders LOVE the Injuns)

Hey, Look at it this way, If the SUX had to play the Braves (TBS=The Braves Suck) in the World Series, I cheer for the SUX because at LEAST they dont self-proclaim themselves as "America's Team" (Which I say is the Yankees)

If the Braves are "America's Team", I'd cheer for whoever ISNT...I'd say the Expos, but they no longer exist in Montreal since becoming the Nats of D.C.

Erin
09-29-2008, 01:26 PM
Progress, I guess. Of course I'm sitting here watching WGN on rain delay waiting for the game to start.

I actually think America's team is the Cubs. I think the Yankees lost their good will a while back.

I actually think America's team is the Cubs. I think the Yankees lost their good will a while back.

the Cubs are America's team, even though I am a fan I will admit that...currently I would say "America's Team" would be the Red Sox. Sure isnt the Braves...With the new contract between MLB & TBS the Braves lost that outlet

The Yankees lost it in my eyes by firing/releasing Joe Torre (Yanks loss was the Dodgers again) - leave it to Steinbrenner to fire/release/whatever a class act manager who WON the whole time with the Yanks. But that's alright, been a Dodger's fan for years.

I would cheer for the White SOX only if they had to play the Braves or even worse, the Reds in a World Series.

Good luck with the game today...if the rain lets up.

I think a Phillies vs. Dodgers NLCS will favor the Phillies offense & pitching.

Atleast Phillies would have home field advantage. We played terrible in LA this year.Dodgers swept us in LA and we swept them in Philly

Well, FLOP-tober is over for the Cubs yet again...Big shock, huh? Can't blame Uncle Lou for this collapse, No offense equals another #$%^&* year about hearing about "The Curse"

Tell ya what, The Dodgers looked impressive to say the least...Whoever plays 'em in the NLCS BETTER have a plan to stop that team. Betcha the Yanks fans WISHED Joe Torre was still in NYC, LOL!!!!

I would like to see a Dodgers/Red Sox World Series...Betcha the Red Sox fans would just so enjoy seeing Manny beatin' 'em.

that only applied to the Rockies in last years World Series sweep at the hand of the Red Sox...

But I guess it applies to the FLOP-tober collapse of the Cubs...and possibly the Angels (Who haven't beat the Red Sox in 11 straight games of the playoffs dating back to 1986) starting in about 10 minutes.

Congrats to the White Sox, at least they are making a series of it against the Rays.

I'm a TRUE Cubs fan...I will stick with my team THROUGHOUT it all, and if it takes another 100 years to win the World Series, so be it...

At least I can PROUDLY predict the Cubs will win the World Series before I EVER TRUST anyone in WASHINGTON D.C.

What a weekend here in Chitown. I still don't get how they lost both games at home, too much hype too early, I guess. I'm actually hoping this will eliminate some of the fairweather Cubs fans for you true fans. Those that go to games to look cool at Wrigley, and don't appear to actually know anything about baseball. They drive me nuts on the L on game days.

White Sox game starts at 4:07 today, where's Steve Perry? ;) "Don't stop believing":blob1:

I'm prediticting an American League World Series win, no matter which teams ends up going.

fairweather fans, or even worse "bandwagon jumpers". I guarantee HAD the Cubs won the World Series there would be So Many fans coming out to say "I'm a Cubs fan"...Yeah, sure ya are.

I have been bleeding Cub blue since my hometown Muskogee, OK added WGN to the cable TV package WAY BACK in 1982.

There sure have been alot of 'fairweather' fans at the games at the Cell and in Tampa, since during regular the season games I saw more empty seats than fans at games for both team. But I will give 'em both the benefit of the doubt since no one, I repeat, NO ONE was ever worse than the Atlanta Braves fans at showing up at the last minute ONLY if their team made the playoffs...Otherwise the Braves fans at Turner Field were disguised as empty seats

I have to say great pitching teams have, and WILL FOREVER MORE, beat great hitting teams...I say the National League has that advantage this year (ie Dodgers starting pitching staff). Should be a fun World Series this year (Still NONE will top the 2001 Yanks vs. D-Backs Series, the best one in my opinion).

For the record, I hate the DH!!! If a pitcher drills an opposing player in the AL, he wont have to suffer a payback...Crapola!! Make him hit and drill him back!!!

The White Sox are joining the Cubs for "Tee Time" in the morning (About 7:30am CST :D ) somewhere in Chicago.

Well, on the one hand I was dissapointed to see the Twins lose the playoff game to the White SOx, but very pleased to see them get eliminated by the Rays. And my Red Sox finished off the Angels last night. Thanks in no slamm part to the missed squeeze bunt by the Angels in the top of the ninth. BRING ON THE RAYS!

10-07-2008, 01:18 PM
It'll be a Dodgers/Red Sox World Series. Dodgers win in 6.

Manny gets back at the Red Sox, Torre thumbs his nose at the Yankees.

Oh...and the "Red Sox did not finish off the Angels"...the Angels finished THEMSELVES off. 100 wins and they STILL get beat by a wild card team and f-up my dream of an all SoCal World Series.

The Los Angeles Asswipes of Anaheim. At the Major League level of play, you don't hang your baserunner out to dry on a suicide squeeze. Aybar should be sent back to PeeWee League to have a refresher course in baseball fundamentals. Or better yet...traded to the Mariners.

the relig-a-tarded are paranoid of the word "Devil". I already heard they are campaigning to have the word devil removed from "Deviled Ham" and "Deviled Eggs".

Anyway all is quiet in Chicago, and the only thing left to say is Go Bears!

Ya left out "Go Blackhawks", who are SO going to get slaughtered at Wrigley this coming winter, when they play my beloved (And current NHL Champs) Red Wings in the annual "NHL Classic" game.

the Dodgers/Red Sox Series myself...have to root for the Dodgers (NO frikkin' DH in the NL). I see the Dodgers shocking the world as they did 20 years ago when they destroyed the A's (Two words that haunt the A's fans, Kirk Gibson!!! - The last great SoCal World Series).

I grew up in a household that rooted for one of two National League teams during the 70's, either you liked the Reds or ya liked the Dodgers, I'm sure as hell NOT a Reds fan (My Mom was...So much that when I picked the A's to beat her Reds in the 1990 World Series, and the Reds swept the A's in 4 games, My Mom called me on the phone long distance as soon as the last out was made and said only one sentence to me then hung up on my ass, "Your team sucked!")

Manny already SLAMMED the Red Sox immediately after the Dodgers win over my Cubs, When asked what he had to say to the Red Sox fans if his Dodgers were to face 'em in the Series - Manny looked in the camera, took a second for his answer, laughed directly at the camera and said sarcastically "Nothing" :D

That "suicide squeeze" was hilarious...It made the Angels look bad when it blew up in their face, I died laughing when Mike Scioscia flew out of the dugout to dispute the call (Which was correct and replay showed the out was made BEFORE the ball was dropped from the glove). Definitely the "suicide" part was the only part of "suicide squeeze" that worked.

The GREAT thing about a Rays/Red Sox playoffs...Watched a baseball game and HOCKEY fight broke out!!!

Look, this whole thread is pointless. We all know that the Pirates are gonna win the whole thing, so why even bother talking about these lesser teams?

I see American League East in a 'familar' scenario:

The New York Yankees are the Republicans (the 'so-called' "Evil Empire")
The Boston Red Sox are the Democrats (the 'so called' "Nation"...ppppphhh!!!)
The Tampa Bay Rays are the Independents

Neither the Yanks or Red Sox want another team (Or in politics another PARTY with ideas) to upset their balance of power on the AL East (Or the USA in the political sense), because once another team can successfully do so, it's adios to the 2 super-powers...and back to the basement with 'em.

I'm cheering for the Rays...I like the underdog!!!

Go Rays!!!

Deja-vu all over again...Rays 2 BoSox 0 top of the first!!!

Update: The BoSox won...Gotta give 'em credit, but going back to Tampa is going to be interesting to say the least (I was hoping Tampa won for 2 reasons, #1 No more ANNOYING ads for penis enlargement pills and #2, and far worse, NO MORE ads for "Frank 'SUCKS' TV")

I certainly wasn't among those people. I was scared about Manny and the Dodgers after what they did to the Cubs. I watched the ALCS with "pick your poison" in mind. The Phillies haven't been home in four games, it should be interesting how loud Citizens Bank Park gets. Compared to the two Metrodome World Series', Tropicana doesn't come off as loud.

You know, I totally blew that one. The Pirates actually won in both '71 and '79. Jesus that was the mother of all brain farts.....

Yep, it was the '70 series the O's beat the Reds. So the O's went to the WS in '69, '70, and '71.

Compared to the two Metrodome World Series', I remember being at all of the games in the 1991 world series agasint the Braves here in Minnesota. I seriously think my ears are still ringing from that one. Its funny, people ask what it was like being at game 7, where Jack Morris won 1-0 in 10 innings, you just had to be there to see how incredible that series actually was. I remember in 1987 against the Cardinals, I stood in line for 20 hours for tickets to all 4 games, but they sold out 3 people before I got to the front of the line!

The ump tonight is absolutely terrible

That J-Roll scrape of his uniform is not a hit batter?? I agree. This isn't new. The AL strike zone moves with the game. There are probably 2 NL umpires that do this, compared to 5-10 AL umps. I wasn't even a fan of either team watching an Orioles game this season. AL umps made up a new strike zones when needed. After game two Thursday, pitches at the ankles are now strikes. That's until Jamie Moyer is the pitcher:distress:

Just as an aside, I remember back in 1987, Jamie Moyer was pitching for the Cubs against the Phillies in Philly and he lost a no-hitter with either 1 or 2 outs in the 9th when Lance Parrish(post-tigers) singled up the middle.

I do think umps have AL and NL strike zones. I mostly watch NL games (Phillies), but when I tune into an AL game I think the home plate umpires are from Mars. The strike zone is completely different. I've seen pitches that are thrown mid stomach in the AL called as strikes where in the NL it would never happen. So I think umpires change their approach per league.

You know how NBA refs work during home games in the playoffs. The away team usually gets fouled to death. Last night's game with Jamie Moyer is a great example. In two games on the road in Milwaukee and L.A., Moyer wasn't getting any close pitches as strikes. Last night's game in Philly, all the calls went in his favor. For a pitcher like Moyer, or Glavine, or Maddox, they rely on a bigger strike zone.

As for Lance Parrish, he ranks as one of the worst free agent signings in Phillie history. It was obvious that he was only after the money. This is a warning to any team wanting to sign Manny Ramirez. He put more effort in performing the last three months than he ever did in Cleveland and Boston combined.

I'm trying hard to enjoy the World Series under the current circumstances in my life, but I feel guilty...But Debbie wanted the Rays to win, and I am rooting for 'em.

I remember game six, 1980. I was nine years old, in the fourth grade. I'd been a Phillies/baseball fan for about a year. I was SENT TO BED before the winning strikeout by Tug McGraw on Willie Wilson. I was then awakened to be told of the win. I'm too superstitious to predict today's outcome (later tonight), but at least I won't have to be awakened to see the final result.

I'm not ready to count the Rays out just yet, but really they look like a younger team thats run out of gas. Their 2-3-4 hitters last night were 0-15. That aint gonna get it done.

theyre 3 and 4 hitters are like a combined -30 and 18 strikes or something like that this series

Is Bud Selig really aware what's going on? He seems like he's on the verge of dementia.

By MLB rules, a game is official by the middle of the 5th inning. Yet the game continues until the middle of the sixth. This means when the game resumes, the Rays will play defense in perfect conditions for the bottom of the sixth while the Phillies had to struggle in mud puddles during the top of the inning. There were at least three pitches that Hamels put in the dirt because he lost his footing. If Selig suspends this game after the fifth inning, no harm, no foul. Yet he didn't, and he should've let the Phillies have their bottom of the sixth.

I hope this has no decided outcome to the series, but if it does pretty soon I'm going to have to be sent to a padded room.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Bud's explanation that "three" weather services didn't call this to happen is a bunch of BS! That's why he wouldn't name the three, because he was lying. Two local meteorologists at 6PM knew this game wouldn't be finished. But because MLB is a slave to the FOX network, and they have to compete against Monday Night Football, the game goes on.

Now for tonight Bud's given himself an out for canceling again if it's too windy. Yet I think it has more to do with the new episode of "House M.D." at 8pm.

Yes it is. I'm 37 so I remember 1980, but I don't think you can really appreciate it when you're nine years old. You think these championships are going to happen all the time. At least now I've experienced what I wish I could've felt after Super Bowl thirty-nine. The Eagles had dominated Philadelphia sports for about twenty years and yet the red headed step-children of the city are the ones who win it all.

There's a local sports radio personality who has made a living slamming the 'cheapness' of the Phillies organization while his nose has been firmly planted inside the rear end of Andy Reid and the Eagles. I'm going to listen to his radio show this afternoon with glee as he gets a good reaming.

46 hours of angst are finally over.

but I love my Cubs.

I think the Phillies have the best offense right now that could carry them to the World Series, but I worry about their pitching.

Hey, At least the Mets didnt make it (Collapse #2 for the second year in a row) thanks to the mighty Marlins!!!

Hey, not to worry about the Phillies pitching because THEY ARE THE BEST BASEBALL TEAM AROUND!! :blob1::blob2:

CONGRATS TO OUR PHILLIES, WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!!! NOW PARTY ON PHILLIES' FANS!! It took 28 years, but so worth the wait!

HEY GUYS! Anyone going to the celebrations @ the fields tomorrow??
We got seats in club 23 row 8 at the Linc! We were tempted to buy some on ebay for Citizens Bank Park, but I think we just need to be happy that we actually got ANYTHING! They went so quickly!

I was saving some fireworks for a "rainy day" so of course we set those puppies off last night in the middle of the street! I still can't believe it!
