Last night on TV we saw a mention of Stevie and Edge of Seventeen. Later before bed my wife goes "I've still got that song by that STUPID woman in my head"
So, innocently I ask "Which woman"
"You know which one"
"Oh you mean Stevie"
"Yes you know I mean Stevie"
My wife has suffered for the past 10 years with my Fleetwood Mac/Stevie addiction. When I first met her she actually liked a couple of FM songs, but now she hates them all. I dragged her along to both the FM and Stevie concert. She sat there hoping that Stevie would fall off the stage while twirling...
She does admit though that she hates Christine more than Stevie. Sadly she has come to hate most of my music Rod Stewart, Bonnie Tyler, Bob Dylan (she refused to go to his concert), etc.
So, anyone else got a partner who passionately hates Stevie/FM?
Oh and as a side note, when we met I told her that I if we had a daughter we had to call her Rhiannon. Well, ten years later (no kids yet) we are thinking of having a baby and now I am fighting to have Rhiannon as a middle name... :distress:
Wow, it sounds like your wife really doesn't like Stevie. Well, back in the 70s, I didn't really like her either or her music. She's a little different though now then back then. I don't really think my husband hates her, but I think he still thinks she's like she was back then. He does go with me to her shows & once to see Fleetwood Mac, but he says stuff like she's sleeping with all the men in Fleetwood Mac, & the members of her band like Waddy. Well, she did have that kind of reputation back then, but she's totally not like that now, I'm sure. I just saw the thread about Stevie's underwear on E-Bay, & that's funny because my husband thinks she doesn't ever wear any underwear on stage. My husband does like Fleetwood Mac's, Lindsey's (solo) & Stevie's (solo) music.

For a while, my Brazilian boyfriend loved to challenge me at every opportunity when it came to Stevie. He just doesn't get her music, or why I find everything surrounding her so damn funny. And he thinks I spend way too much on this message board. Now, he won't speak of her in English. Every complaint of "here we go again" is whispered under his breath in Portuguese. He's even drawn moustaches and beards on pictures of her.

ah yes thats something else my wife always says...about how many men Stevie has slept with...I think she says it jokingly but I can't be sure
My husband is joking, well, I think he is anyway. But really it's none of my business who Stevie slepts with or hasn't slept with. All this history she has though, that the band has is intriguing to me. Their obvious chemistry together (& music) when I saw them on TV in The Dance is what finally drew me in.

All of my boyfriends have just been rather indifferent towards her. None hated her, but none were nuts about her either. Although one did own Red Rocks, and knew it inside and out. It was he and an old high school buddy's 'obliteration tape.' They always put it on when they were in the mood to get really f!cked up, I guess Stevie guided the way for them in her coked out stupor LOL. Come to think of it, he may have owned a Mac album or two as well. He was more a fan of Christine though. I drug yet another boyfriend to go see Stevie in 2005. I think he actually really had fun. But again... none of them were fans by any means. I think they just thought she was OK because her music meant so much to me.

My husband like Stevie. He said there is something about her. He doesn't go
to all of the Stevie concerts with me, but he gone to two and one with Fleetwood
Mac. I am bringing him with me next year to see Fleetwood Mac

Nice Jill!! That's awesome! My boyfriend John, I met on the "Stevie Nicks Chain" - so that's sorta a "given" that he knows Stevie comes along with the package here too, and knowing he's into her as well, boy does that help! LOL.. He also loves the Mac too, so I think we are SOOOO lucky in that aspect.. I dunno what I'd do if my significant other didn't like Stevie.. I guess I would just be listening in the car and going to her shows by myself.. or with my buds, instead of him.. ? LOL

A couple of boyfriends ago named Carlos said it would be ok with him if I played my new rock CD and so I put on Crystal Visions. When it was over he said all the songs sounded the same. He had never heard of Stevie Nicks before. I always date Hispanic men and none of them had ever heard of FM or Stevie.

hahahaha....awesome.
My wife doesn't dislike Fleetwood Mac, but doesn't really like them either. I think she likes the Lindsey Buckingham stuff more than the Stevie Mac tunes.
My previous "long term relationship" was with a girl named Stephanie. She detested Stevie Nicks. Just to rub her wrong I'd call her Stevie sometimes. I've learned in recent years that most all of her friends now call her "Stevie." =)

Aw, jeez. :-( What's the reasoning behind hating her so much? Do you think she's maybe jealous? Zee wimmins, they can be zee crazy.
I have an ex that didn't care for her at all and would sometimes crack sarcastic jokes, but nothing so bad as what you are dealing with. I'm sorry she is like that to you. I feel like the music we love is a fundamental part of our personalities, so when you go after what someone likes, it's basically a way of saying that you think they're inferior somehow for liking something you don't.
My boyfriend is probably what you'd call neutral about Stevie & the Mac, but he humors me because he knows how much I love it all. He was going to take me to see Stevie in Ontario over the summer, but we ended up scrapping that to see Leonard Cohen instead - I'd already seen Stevie twice this year, and the Cohen show was a once in a lifetime chance that we couldn't pass up. We also ended up seeing Morris Day and the Time the night before the Cohen show, which was a total blast.
While being neutral on Stevie, however, he is a major Waddy fan (partly due to being a major Warren Zevon fan), so I can sometimes get away with rambling about Stevie by mentioning Waddy a few times.
To show my appreciation for his tolerance and patience in the face of my rabid fan-geekery, I made it my mission to snag one of Waddy's picks for him at the last Stevie show I went to, which he was really pleased with.

Sad to see that your wife doesn't like your passion or is respecting it. This would make it much easier.
My boyfriend did know that I'm a Stevie fan and never ever said something against this. I think it's because he's a Bob Dylan fan and understands having this passionate for an artist. Honestly it took my two or three years *lol* 'til I "fell" in love with Bob. I never gave a dime on him because I never REALLY listened to his lyrics and read his work. Then we went to a concert and I just was VERY impressed. I love his new song "Dreamin' of you". Few months ago I've restarted collecting stuff on Sharon Tate. I've collected Sharon Tate before Stevie but stopped doing this for years. Now I'm collecting again and what did my boyfriend? He just smiled!

wow i would love to see what you have in regards to sharon~ i was 1 yr & 4 days old when the murders occured & have virtually been raised knowing the story~ she is one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen~ did you see the show recently where her sister opened her closet?, i would love to have clothes like that!!~

I guess I should consider myself a little bit lucky in the sense that my husband doesn't hate Stevie or anything like that, but thinks her music is just "okay". He does humor me by helping me get set up with a bit torrent client so I can download torrents, he helps me record stuff onto our DVR and transfer to computer, and stuff like that.
He also got a BN album from E-Bay and stuff like that too for me.
I also have dragged him to many Stevie and FM concerts. Although, this past June I gave him a rest and went to Atlantic City with a friend of mine that was totally blown away by Stevie's performance on 6/20 of this year. It was so very nice to know that Stevie can have that affect on someone. My friend was almost speechless after the concert and had a huge smile on her face and all she could say was "AWESOME". She was amazed at how much of her personality and humor came out during the concert.
I would say my husband is tolerant of my fandom because he knows how much Stevie's music means to me and he wants to see me happy. He even asks me from time to time if there is anything new or exciting on the message boards.

I have dragged my partner to about 10 stevie shows and 3 FM shows. He is really great about it. In the beginning he bought sevferal CDS so that he could get to know their songs before we went to a concert. He also sees how much I love her and them and so he encourages me and sees my joy and gets joy in seeing my joy.
One time we were at the Edge walk and as she was approaching he started yelling to her " Stevie, Stevie, STEVIE" until she looked at him then HE pointed to me and said " they love you" she looked at me and smiled and said oh ok thank you then reached down to shake my hand.
I know, awwwwwwwww!

Hi Jill,
no, I haven't seen the show where Debra Tate has opened Sharon's closet but did see a short YouTube Video of it. I don't have any videos on Sharon but like to watch the YouTube videos here and then. I'm mostly collecting photos and articles on Sharon and have a pretty nice collection with rare original clippings from 1965 'til today. It's sad that the most people do remind her as a victim of Charles Manson. Unbelievable what she might have been going through to safe her baby and her life but lost the fight. Sharon was a very talented actress and indeed a very beautiful woman. The most people are not seeing this side of her.

My boyfriend doesn't really care enough about Stevie to hate/love her. Just like I don't care enough about Radiohead or Bloc Party.
I turned him onto Fleetwood Mac, and I know that if they get back out on the road again next year he'll come with me, but if it was just Stevie - I'm on my own.

My husband is ok with Stevie. He has come with me to FM and Stevie concerts. He just says he gets tired of hearing them all the time. But it works both ways.He is into country music now. It's ok but I am sooo sick of Sugarland ;).We did name our daughter Rhiannon though.I had told him when I found out I was pregnant if it was a girl that was gonna be her name. I researched the meaning and read the Mabinogion. He liked it also but I had a boy first. My kids names are Jude ( after Saint Jude not the Beatles song) and Rhiannon. My daughter just had a little boy 3 months ago, you would think she would name him something non traditional.Nope his name is James lol.

When my partner and I first met, he had the Tango and a two-fer of FM(white)/Rumours - both on Cassette...Tango he had never flipped over, and so only knew the first side...other than the obvious hits, that was the extent of his knowledge ... He didn't hate or dislike Stevie, but didn't know much...In no time at all, however I got him into her...not like me (or most of us here) but he knows every song, most of the demos...her back up work ... He gets excited when she tours, we've gone to a couple of Night Of A Thousand Stevie's together ... He's totally on board. That makes it a hell of a lot easier, I must say, because we live together now, and it would be a shame if he lived in a shrine to someone he hated hee hee hee...
On a side note...to the person who first started this thread (I'm sorry...i just read through the whole thing, and I forget your name) anyway, Bonnie Tyler is another of my favorites and (I just (2 weeks ago) got the chance to finally see her live after 30 years of fandom!) Anyway, after the show she came out and I was able to meet here ... totally awesome...

Now I'm green with envy. I absolutely adore Bonnie (which is probably weird for a 34 year old guy). Her voice is amazing! My favourite female vocalists are Stevie, Bonnie and Janis Joplin - must be something about the husky vocals? :D
Sadly I doubt I'd ever get the chance to see her live - big acts don't always make it down-under... I can't see Bonnie making down here these days.

Thanks for the forgiveness! :wavey: Well, apparently, Bonnie hadn't done a full show in NYC since 1979 or something? So it was kind of a big deal...I had seen her once before (I think it was in '06) but it was a Jim Steinman show and Bonnie came out as a special guest and did one song (TEOTH, duh!) Her voice is everything you'd imagine live, she just opens her mouth and that rasp comes out - it's truly effortless ... anyway, don't give up, I've a feeling these shows are because she is putting out a new CD next year and perhaps it's going to get a worldwide release for a change..who knows? Maybe she'll come to you next! BTW, love Janis, too...Bonnie did Turtle Blues and it was amazing (she also did 'To Love Someone', which is sort of a Janis cover, too) And she is sweet as can be, too...when i spoke with her, we laughed and she signed my It's A Heartache album cover, took pictures, and just spent as much time as I (and every one else waiting to talk with her) wanted...

Sharon Tate??? Do you actually mean the actress who was murdered by Manson's freaks? I'm very curious to know what it is that you collect from her?? "It's too late to fall in love with Sharon Tate," (the only lyrics I remember from a song named "All The People I Know Have Died!"

My partner can't stand Landslide, nor most of her commercially released stuff-Quite frankly-I spent about 30 years drawn to Stevie for that material. However, through these websites, I was introduced to her demos and unreleased material as well as kick ass bootlegs. I am getting into her music all over again-like its brand new. I very rarely listen to released stuff-I much prefer my new found demos-my girlfriend can tolerate a certain amount, but I won't push it-I commute-I use that to have my "STEVIE MOMENTS".
