Not sure how old this is...
Thin, wispy, female vocals = limp cover version of Christine's Think About Me.

I have heard a couple of their albums (a friend of mine is a big fan of theirs) and I didn't know the Decemberists had a female vocalist. Does she also play the keyboards, and if so, do you know her name? She might be following in Christine's footsteps, and if so, maybe she's paying tribute to Chris with this cover.
I think this version is pretty good. Of course the unknown vocalist's singing is nowhere near as good as Christine's, but at least she doesn't try to prettify the song excessively, and she doesn't get too ambitious with the vocal. Whoever the singer is, I think she knows her limitations.

I met their drummer, John Moen, back in late June. He's in Robert Pollard's new band, Boston Spaceships, and came out to Dayton for this annual GbV/Robert Pollard fan festival. He was a really cool guy. I'll have to tell him I heard this when I see him later this week.

Great Portland band. Jenny Conlee, the keyboardist, has a weekly gig playing the theater organ at this great bar/restaurant by my house (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=119) I was there for dinner one night a few months ago, and she played "You Make Loving Fun" on the organ as one of her songs- during her break, I chatted with her for a few minutes about her song choice, and the group's cover of "Think About Me". They are all big fans of FM.

Thanks for the info. I had only heard MP3s of the songs from two of their albums. Without reading any liner notes I had no idea they even had a woman in the band. I liked what I heard of their music, but now I'm especially interested. I wonder if she'll get more lead vocals on later recordings. Her singing very well might improve with practice and gaining confidence.
It is gratifying to see this young, "cool" band admit they enjoy FM's music, especially that they enjoy Christine's songs.

wow...I had no idea that the Decemberists were such fans of the group. I live in Portland, OR but don't really follow local bands. However it's always nice to hear about a local artist/band that hits it big nationally. Everclear and Meredith Brooks come to mind (I'm a big fan of Meredith - that "Bitch"!)
Coincidentially, my local coffee shop just had a solo show with one of the founding members of The Decemberists! I attended it and was surprised to see that he was someone I see there all the time. He did a guitar acoustic set, and he had a great voice.
I asked someone what part he plays in the band and laughed when I was told he plays the drums!! So the story goes...he made the decision to leave the band just as they were getting big. Apparently he wasn't too keen on the impending pressures and travel that come with signing with a big label.
Wait, a band with a member named John, a talented guitarist, a female keyboardist/ singer? And they're being talked about on the Ledge? That's a first.

Tusk has become a hit amongst the hipster crowd. Which is funny as hell to me...

I'll say this: I betcha John Moen was an upgrade. Having seen four Boston Spaceships shows, the dude is a total badass. He may actually be my new favorite drummer.
