Does anyone know anything about Lindsey's pick? I got one in Portland the other night, I believe he just used one on Treason, but it has NIN on one side and a no pick sign on the back- but I wondered why he'd have nine inch nails on it? Some connection I know someone will know- Any info would be fun- Thanks:confused:thumbsup:

NIN? Odd. Maybe some of the guys on his road crew supplied them...they probably tour for other bands. Interesting...

2 years ago, my daughter had gotten a NIN pick from one of the shows, I didn't think it was one of Lindseys though, but I also got one, it had Neals sig on it, I forgot what was on the other side, so idk????

Yup, that's what he had for the last tour as well (he threw it to me after playing Under the Skin). I was so excited to have gotten the pic I didn't notice the NIN until I was at home.
I keep trying to call into Rockline and emailed his Q&A about it, but have never been able to get through or get an answer.
I thought it was pretty cool because I'm a fan of Trent Reznor as well (just saw NIN in concert, good times indeed).

Yeah...one of the crew guys was out with NIN at one point and had a bunch with him...and Lindsey got hold of one and likes it because it is thin. So he uses them.

Yeah, last tour they were also Nine Inch Nail pics. I got one at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Might have gotten a discount on them.

I got one at the Borgata last year and it was a NIN one as well...same as described...( he actually tried to toss one and someone else got it so he came right over to the end of the stage to hand another to me)
Someone's theory was that Ray Lindsey is a tech for NIN and had them as extras becuase they werent happy with them or something... I dont know how accurate that is though

Hm- You must be talking about last year? I was at the GOS show, he just threw one down on the stage, nothing out to the audience. I am curious if the no pick sign is just something Lindsey added or what?Is it on the NIN ones they used?

no I was front row he played under the skin and threw it. it was before you snuck to second row.

Yes, even though he uses a pick several times throughout the show, he consistently throws it after UTS.
He kills me, because in talking about the "whore" part in Bel Air Rain he still had to mention that FM tried to make him use a pick in 1975. If Mick and John had taken him in a back room and molested him, it could not have scarred him more than them asking him to use a pick did.

Ah! That's awesome! What a fun time huh? I don't think I was very "sneaky" haha- but I couldn't let the opportunity to go to waste. I wonder and wonder why the second row was empty? Any theories? I was hoping the USC marching band was gonna show! haha:blob2:

Apparently, most of the first three rows were sold to ticket brokers who simply cut their losses rather than sell them for below face value. I sat on the aisle in row... G? I forget.
Glad you had fun!

Apparently, most of the first three rows were sold to ticket brokersWhy would so many brokers (also known as "businessmen") buy Lindsey Buckingham concert tickets? Isn't that like buying face-value shares in GM?
Sorry, this is off topic but Wild Heart, I love your signature!
Well, last night at the Cleveland show I found one of Lindsey's plectrums on the ground. After nearly exploding from excitement, I examined it. on the back it says L. B. then beneath that T. I. I have no idea what this means. Does anyone know why this one is different or an idea of what L.B.T.I. could mean?

Don't know if anyone asked at meet and greet - but you can?! :D Your line of thinking about the band members and what they have is good direction to take.
It is not really directly related to the guitar and 'i' is a letter, not a number. So not Turner 1, or thumb and index.

well, it's like "Buckingham Records" - just hard facts. i like "Mind Kit Records" much better.
if it would be named after whatever the latest album is he'd have to incorporate anew every time he tours/issues an album. not practical i'd imagine.

Nah - the cost is zilch and selling 'em at the merch table would offset any you'd give away. It would be good promotion in my retail opinion to get new picks. But, he probably would sell more if he actually did use a pick! LOL.
On the current design, I really think his signature on the back would be really cool and make more sense. Not that it matters...

Oh! I think that's just a goofy thing they came up with - which was why I thought it was weird. The "touring company" is contracted out. Bus drivers, truck drivers, roadies all work for companies that LB pays, not "Lindsey Buckingham Touring Incorporated." Even the band members are basically independent contractors when you get down to it. They usually have to pay them a retainer to put them on hold for the next tour. For instance, Jana was not hired to go out on Stevie's IYD tour, but she is on retainer for the next Mac tour...

you might be right. what you describe is what i always just assumed it would be done (not that i ever thought about it much!), but after i saw what LBTI is supposed to stand for, incorporating in order to run all that would make just as much sense to me. obviously, i know nothing about running a business and am happy i don't have to.

Too much liability. They contract it out. But, I understand your reasoning. Even acts who make gazillions don't do what you're describing totally. There are so many pieces of the pie and people who get a cut, it's crazy.

can't you incorporate a business which would be contracting out? like you can hire a contractor to renovate your house and he might actually do nothing but oversee and get permits, contract out a plumber, an electrician, and architect, carpenter, etc, and get that all together and running.
i've heard somebody saying long time ago that if you run any kind of business, even if it's just you doing all the work, you'd want to consider incorporating, one of the reasons being that if it goes bankrupt then it's the business that goes bankrupt, and not you personally. obviously i'm very naive and just curious about all this...

Oh, I see what you're saying, like Kristen Buckingham is an LLC company. Yeah, I guess it might all fall under that umbrella then, a LB incorporated... I have seen that for artists before, but never as a "touring company". Hmmm. Something to research. I wonder if that is the standard practice.

Fleetwood Mac has had several corporations over the years. In 1997 they had both a merchandising corporation and a touring corporation. Then they formed a new touring corporation in 2001 and that one is the one that is still active today.
Lindsey is in at least two corporations that I know of, one is with Stevie called Then Sounds (or something like that) and one is his own called Now Sounds (well words along those lines).

Or if it was Mind Kit as in watch out for Kit, whoever Kit is.

ha, never thought about it that way but you might be right: he calls Kristen Kit (according to UTS liner notes i guess?).
i always assumed he/they put two separate words together and it sounded good - since he used word "mind" a lot all over SWS and also wanted to have Kristen's name included. but watch for Kit, acknowledge Kit, take Kit into account, think of Kit or however you want to spin it - you might be onto something.

So who does Now Sounds belong to then? This is so confusing :distress:
"Now Sounds" is actually the name of Lindsey's publishing. Stevie's is "Welsh Witch Music". These are not mortar and brick companies, to clarify. Anyone who writes songs needs a publishing company to put their songs under. It's ideal if you have your own, it means you own the copyright to the song and you get 100% of the royalties. Then you get a contract with BMI, ASCAP, SESAC for performance rights, royalty distribution, etc. etc. etc. It can get a little complicated - it's all about people wanting/getting a piece of your pie and you need to keep as much of that pie as you can. For instance, you can publish your songs with a music publishing company and only get a writer's share of royalties - you share 50/50 with said company or you can co-publish and get 75%. The pros for sharing publishing is that someone manages all the royalty stuff for you - if I understand this correctly, the example is that Lindsey's publishing, "Now Sounds" is registered with ASCAP (Stevie is with BMI) and those organizations manage their royalties and cut them checks. This is how Stevie's Mom was seeing checks for $25,000 - $30,000 every month or so from BMI for "Silver Springs". Stevie named the publishing company "Barbara Nicks Music" and split the earnings with "Welsh Witch".
 High five for that gem.

Cool! Thanks for the scoop Michele. I believe this is done primarily for tax purposes. I did think when you incorporate it was more for what was coming in rather than what was going out though and thought the roadies are paid from a percentage of ticket sales.
So, since it's legit and not a joke - I still have this thought - what a boring thing to put on a guitar pick!

Actually, it's not weird. It shifts personal financial liability for Lindsey to a "corporation" so that his individual assets can't be used to settle debts that the "corporation" incurs. You hire, fire, sign contracts as that entity so that if something happens, they're not going after a chunk of everything you make or have. There's a lot of contractual obligations in touring that would fall squarely on Lindsey if something were to happen. It shifts it off of him.

I think Stevie's in an admin deal and I think Lindsey might have been at one time, but I'm not sure what kind of deal he's in now. Main difference is who owns the copyright and percentages. In an admin deal, the songwriter/songwriter's publishing company keep the entirety of the copyright and can effectively (with a good lawyer or car salesman like reputation when it comes to haggling) work down the administrating publisher portion of the royalty to around 10% in exchange for the songwriter to not have to worry about all the day to day work of publishing. The co-publishing deal actually signs over part of the copyright to the co-publishing entity for a negotiated percentage which is not always half of the publisher's take.
They also get quarterly royalty payments, not every month.

I think it kind of depends on how their management situation is set up and what stage of their careers they are at, but yea, I would say it's standard to have some sort of incorporation. I personally would suggest to keep the different aspects separate for an artist with as many revenue streams as Lindsey has. Anytime you can take steps to put a buffer between the different things you make money from it's a good idea to do it in this business.
Like I said, that entity signs agreements and contracts and is the responsible party rather than Lindsey himself, shielding him from bad debts (outside of what he has invested in the company) and lawsuits.
Example: His contract says he's to do a minimum of 90 minutes for each show. He freaks because there's not exactly 500 brown M&Ms backstage and goes out and does a profanity laced 45 minute set. The promoter sues for breach of contract. LBTI would be liable, not Lindsey.

:lol::lol::lol: Love that example!
Thanks for breaking it all down. It's cool to know how everything works behind the scenes.
speaking of incorporating and the kind of money that can be lost on cancelled tours, for example - i saw today this article about FM/SN's australian promoter:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/promoter-andrew-mcmanuss-year-of-dud-deals/story-e6frf96f-1226223322391
"McManus said his company lost $2 million on a tour by Whitney Houston last March, about $1.2 million on The Who in 2009, and more than $800,000 on a cancelled tour by Peter Gabriel last year."
