View Full Version : Time to remaster!!!
Isn't it time both Stevie and Lindsey released remastered versions of their solo albums?
I have been trying to do a Lindsey compilation CD recently and find that i can't add stuff from Law & Order, as well as from other albums, because the quality is so poor.
I also think it is way beyond time for Stevie to remaster her albums (espescially BellaDonna/Wild Heart/Rock a little ). There is a wealth of material which she could add to these remastered releases, so isn't it time she got somebody to sort this out!
Hope we can start a good long thread, which may reach the ears of Stevie & Lindsey!!

Agree, way over due, add Mirage for FM. It must not be cost effective for them to do otherwise I would think they all would have jumped on it by now.
Esp for Stevie being that she has sold so much more than LB. It is time for a remastered box set for sure.

Could someone explain to me what exactly remastering means? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but what are the differences in the remastered recordings?
Thanks!!!

It basically means to improve the sound quality.

Mastering is the act of taking the final master tape and applying equalization and volume adjustments so that the album has a cohesive and "finished" sound.
The term "remastering" is applied to a reissue, and is simply finding the best source tape (ideally the original master tape) and applying the above techniques to produce a good sounding reissue. With advances in analog-to-digital converters, remasters have the potential to reveal a lot more detail in the sound than was possible in the early days of CD.
Unfortunately, modern mastering techniques also have a bad habit of jacking up the volume levels too much, destroying the dynamic range of the recording. While this makes some CDs sound better in noisy environments (such as car stereos), they often sound terrible when played on a decent stereo at home.
The SN albums in greatest need of remastering are "Bella Donna" and "Wild Heart". These were issued on CD sometime in the 80s, and I suspect they didn't use the original master tape but copy tapes that were created for vinyl mastering. These CDs are very thin sounding. I don't think the albums from "RAL" onward are really in need of remastering, but it would be nice to get deluxe editions with bonus tracks.
I'm surprised "BD" hasn't been reissued in remastered deluxe form by now, given how popular it is. It would be tough to pick the bonus tracks for "BD" given all the outtakes that have leaked over the years, but it would be nice to get final mix-down versions of the studio version of "Gold And Braid" and the BD version of "Gypsy". The live version of "I Need To Know" from the HBO special would be a nice addition as well.
"RAL" has the most obvious bonus track choices: The 45 mix (soft intro) of "I Can't Wait", "Mirror Mirror", "Reconsider Me", the 12" version of "The Nightmare", "One More Big Time Rock 'N Roll Star".
Unfortunately, given the dismal demand for CDs these days, the time may have already come & gone for remastered SN albums. But how about releasing them on-line for download?

I still think remastering the cds would be awesome.....of all of Stevie's solo cds....with of course extras......with outtake photos....she could really do so much with this.....as well as issue the DVD with extras for the HBO concert......I'd have her do all the cds starting with BD /WH/RAL/Mirror/SA/TISL....all with extras....it could be awesome....They could do a limited # of cds only.....or heck release it as a 'special' only box set......like what a 10 cd limited edition or something like it with preorders only for those that don't want to do the downloading thing....(like me)....same with Lindseys stuff......if anyone really does need a box set its him.....with his extended versions etc....I'd buy it too.....Fmac does need to re-issue
Fmac 'live' cd with extras.....Mirage for sure/Tango/Mask.....it would be cool really....as well as all there dvds' there HBO Mirage special with extras/Tango Dvd with extras and all there videos on DVD as well.........Its a crying shame again they could do limited editions or something through Rhino records in case they don't have a label?? They do have options.....now if they'd only see those options....IMO anyway.................:D

While I would like to see the SN catalog being remastered/expanded (There's enough material to make bonus discs for each individual release...coughcoughMaster-reelscoughcough) - I am sure the record labels see this as not a $$$$ making opportunity

Didn't someone buy them from Modern records when it closed?? Can anyone tell us about this?? I know there was some thread about this sometime ago.....Help??

That's what's wrong with the music industry. All about money and nothing having to do with the quality and beauty of music. Sure, the music industry has probably always been about $$, but at least the music was better back in the day.

I'd love it if Stevie did a reissue release for BD and WH with extras. It really beggar's belief that she has so many beautiful demo's from both albums that never made the cut. Who wouldn't love to hear Julia or China Doll or If You Were My Love, etc on the BD album?
I also think it's time the released 'officially' the BN album. How they've managed to not have that out there already I'll never know, considering it was that LP that got them notice by the Mac.

I would really really like to have the videos as well. Not that I don't see Hold Me or Gypsy in my head whenever they run across the mp3...

YES!!!!!!! Time to remaster and include bonus cuts on Bella Donna, Wild Heart and Rock A Little.
I know the remasters of Fleetwood Mac's White Album, Rumours and Tusk sure sound better. Wonder how the remasters sold?
