They were talking about that chick Amy from Evanescence (sp?) - Kathy Griffin liked her outfit and said, "It's very Stevie Nicks-ish," that bald dude laughed and agreed.

That's what Mary Hart said on ET last nite- they picked Amy as one of the worst dressed - and showed a clip of her on the GREEN carpet (sponsored by Heineken) - Amy said she bought the dress at a place called Trash - then they cut back to Mary in the studio saying, "She should have left it there." I thought she looked good - especially w/ her toned down makeup.

Not only was her get-up hideous, but Stone was pretty off that night. She had to be on something.

Speaking of the Grammy's, Did anyone see Melissa Ethridge? She did a tribute to Janis Joplin thing, which wasn't too bad. She is completely bald. I was just wondering if she is ill, or did she somehow think this was a good idea?
Anybody know?

Melissa Etheridge had breast cancer. She went through all of her treatment and is now cancer free.
I think it was an increadibly inspiring thing for her to do. Many women would opt for a wig, but she just put it all out there and chose to not let it break her down. And she did rock! She killed that song! I loved it.

So I'm reading R&R on craigslist for LA, and today some people are posting their "weirdest celebrity encounters." Came across this one just now:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/rnr/843336947.html
"1978... hanging out between the Rainbow and the Roxy. BSing with Wolfman Jack by the side door of the Roxy... there's like 50 people out there. Door opens, multiple people trying to exit, some of us outside get trampled. As I get up off of the ground, I see who it was that fell directly on me..... Stevie Nicks in a tube-top. Goddamn! I'll never forget that. She was probably very high... I know I was! (Yes... it actually happened. No, I didn't get to talk to her)."

In a Grammy review segment on ABC's show "The View", Mario Cantone made fun of Stevie's dress, he said something like "The Renaissance Fair is over, the Handmaid wants her dress back"... but Joy Behar recovered the segment by following up with "[Stevie] always looks beautiful and she's one of the most talented in the world!"

He joked that she's been wearing the same thing since 1976 and that she bought it from some kind of Wiccan store or something and that the Renaissance is over. But he basically admitted that he was just saying it because he needed a joke and thought she looked good.

I really disagree. It's not as if she wears all her Stevie garb in her day to day life.
The chiffon, long hair, tambourines, platforms, gloves and everything are a part of who she is on stage.
It's like saying Debbie Harry needs to dye her hair blue.

No Stevie doesn't wear her stage clothes around the house (at least I hope not otherwise she really IS Baby Jane!!!). But from 1975 to 1997 Stevie had a unique look that was altered slightly from album to album, tour to tour. Since '97 though she's been stuck on this one look. She used to wear different colors, different styles, her hair was changed around a bit. Now it's the same look every time. Don't women like changing their looks all the time? Stevie's pretty much the only female out there who keeps wearing (what looks like) the same dress to EVERYTHING.

Bahaha of course! But maybe Joy would get the idea that she NEEDS Stevie on her show, and I'm sure Joy has a way of getting Stevie's number! Or should I say Karen's? My only question is since Stevie isn't really political, what would she talk about other than herself? I can just picture Stevie up there talking to Joy about Tiger Woods. LMAO, but maybe if Stevie decides to release some new stuff, she could announce it on Joy's show! I bet a lot of Stevie fans watch her show, so it'd be the perfect place.

I agree. The long sleave black jacket, corset and skirt (now worn with blackgloves too) is so dull now, I miss the more gauzy things she wore. Wouldn't a floating, drapey gown be more forgiving to her figure than a rigid corset and tightly buttoned blouse? She could wear the 'Blue Denim' outfit and no one would notice she's heavier, wearing knee braces or wearing non-regulation Stevie foot-wear. I'm all for her breaking out the crimping iron again too.

My same thoughts exactly. Her style sometimes looks very matronly and old. The funky-plain black dresses the long dyed hair aren't helping her at all. What happened to the look she had on the Soundstage show?

I don't think she looked matronly or old, she just looked like Stevie, the one we're so used to seeing. In fact, she looked pretty happy through all the mess.
I don't think she could have worn the Rhiannon outfit from the Soundstage show because Taylor was dressed in a blouse and jeans, and it would have looked strange if Stevie came out with the Rhiannon wings, top hat, and tan boots, and Taylor looking like she was going to Sunday School.

My friend told me about this this morning because she knows I'm a fan. She presented it as something negative, which I guess it is, but I just replied, "her fans have been saying that for a while now so that's nothing new." Heh. Those dumb critics could be a lot worse so I'm glad everyone is just showing the love for the most part.

What did happen to her Soundstage "Live in Chicago" look? She looks so good in that concert. Her hair is better, her clothes are better, and her shoes are better. Her look at the grammys was matronly. Her soundstage look is still age appropriate- but modern and fun and flattering.
You cannot tell me whoever her stylist was for that concert is the same person who dressed her and did her hair last night!

What's funny to me about this photo is that Bette Davis was 52 and 53 years old when she filmed 'Baby Jane'... The only time I saw a resemblance at all, was Stevie's Woodstock Performance- that was in '98 or '99... so Stevie would have been 50, 51... We were all watching online, and someone actually said 'Baby Nicks'- it fortunately didn't stick, and Stevie usually has always looked much better- but the Woodstock performance did have some major eye-makeup gaffe, or something, plus I think she had been rained upon! Guess she didn't go in for waterproof cosmetics...
But based on this Davis photo and Nicks at Woodstock, aging into your early 50s seem scary, baby!

That is sexist. What if he would of said that boy from Aerosmith or the Eagles? It's funny you mentioned this becuase I was just thinking about stuff like this today.
But it's her uniform and it makes her happy, and she will surprise us, every now and then.
First and foremost, I am not Stevie and don't know what goes through her mind. It's easy for us to say, do this, do that. But......
It's her "uniform" - exactly. I think she has adopted what she feels best represents her look - the black dress from the Rumours cover. She said that she wanted to be the long cool woman in a black dress. So, she is. I'm a bit schizophrenic about the whole thing. The one part of me is glad that she's still around and that girls young enough to be her granddaughter are inviting her to play onstage at a major award show. To be honest, how many other female rockers from Stevie's generation have had that kind of impact and STILL get recognized today as being legit? I think Stevie has really gained the respect she wanted for so long. She may be toned down now and not as svelt as she once was but she is still here and people love her. She has done a great job keeping herself out there and still being relevant with today's artists. That is a huge accomplishment.
On the other hand...I would be lying if I said that when I see her come out in that same outfit and flat hair I'm disappointed and think she could step it up a notch. Put some layers in that hair and some lowlights or something! Bring it up a bit. Go back to those classy velvet jackets if you need something form-fitting. Throw a little splash of color in there somewhere. She probably looks at some of her shawls and capes from the days of yor as being a bit much for her now. Remember in an interview she said that she started wearing all those colors to get away from the black witchy thing because people started saying things? Funny thing was, she still looked witchy - just in color! Everything about Stevie since 1997 has been toned down. In a sense, I understand why - it's just easier for her. You become simpler as you age and you can't be bothered with this or that. "This works" so let's just stick with it.

I could be wrong, as I often am, butI do not believe that Stevie Nicks employs a stylist. She has wardrobe assistants who may interject here and there but ultimately, I think that STEVIE decides what Stevie wears. Honestly, what stylist would put her in the same (less than flattering) dress year after year. Stevie is way too independant and set in her ways to have a 20 something rummaging through her closet telling her what to wear and what to throw out. Stevie has been the self admitted constructor of the Stevie Nicks look since the first Fleetwood Mac tour. I don't believe she has or will ever hand those reins over to someone other than herself.
That being said, I think a V-shaped low cut bodice, lace/chiffon coat and handkerchief hemmed skirt would have looked much softer and more flattering for The Grammy's. That square across the front dress and corset top cuts her right across the middle. She's not heavy but she's not 100 lbs either. A few adjustments could have taken 10 lbs off her.

As the one above me said, it's her uniform. And... as she's said herself, "I don't change."

In case you haven't noticed over the past 35 years, Stevie consistently wears low cut tops and dresses, including the dress she wore on Sunday night. She's been doing this from day one. The style of the top is what I feel could have been improved upon. A V neck tends to elongate the body, therefore slimming it. You need not take other people's opinions quite so personally. There are, after all, opinions and everyone has a right to theirs.

Did anyone else see Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last night? Real Housewives of Orange County new housewife Lydia McLaughlin was on and her Mom was the guest bartender. On the show, part of Lydia's storyline is about her hippy pot smoking Mom, and what they have been through together and how Lydia doesnt approve of her toking...well when Andy Cohen introduced her Mom, he said that she used to carpool to high school with Stevie Nicks...and then the Mom puts her hand against her ear like she is on the phone and beckons Nicks to give her a ring...Did anyone else see this?!! :]

"OK, are you ready? It's now time to talk about Sweet Judy Blue Eyes. Now when you think of Lydia's mother, you don't think of a real actual human being, you think of the witch who sprinkled magic dust on a chicken carcass and brought it to life. Well, it turns out, Judy is just that. Judy lives in a place called the Land of the Bunnies, and there everything is happy and wonderful and everyone is in harmony with the earth. Everything is made out of jade crystals and everyone makes their living as turquoise jewelry salespeople on the sides of the road in New Mexico. Their bunnies don't hop and play in the meadow all day, they walk upright and tell you what to do. They are your lords and masters and they make sure that everyone is kind to nature and wears flowy outfits from the Stevie Nicks Collection for Chicos.
Yes, Judy is sort of like Glenda the Good Witch if Glenda had a gravity bong set up in her bathtub. When she encounters a stranger, she needs to sprinkle them with her magic dust and say a little prayer so that they are in her world too. "Shimmer of hope. Shine of belief. Shock of humor," she says as the dust she keeps in a little magical jar rains down on everyone around her. Judy's other magical gift is that she can make money appear from nowhere. Yes, she is rich. She just has money to throw around like they're rainbows on a clear day in a field where the sun beats down on the grass and a handsome naked man with long hair approaches in slow motion through the wild flowers to lay you down on a hillside and suckle your various nectars.
The problem is, Lydia does not like the Land of the Bunnies. She doesn't want her mother to live there and the two times that she has visited she has had to call her mother right away and have her come pick her up and rescue her and take her someplace real and cold and cynical. It is a church. Yes, Lydia lives in the House of the Lord and that seems diametrically opposed to where Judy has built her marshmallow palace. I guess it makes sense. We all rebel against our parents in many ways and the more extreme the parents usually the more extreme the rebellion. If your mom is essentially a Wiccan priestess that you would rebel by becoming a Puritan.
The problem is Lydia is winning. She has lured her mother out of the Land of the Bunnies permanently. She told Judy that her babies (one of which has the Christian name "Maverick") are going to live the holy life of the church and no Priestess of the Bunnies is ever going to love and cuddle her spawn. So Judy has left the Bunnies behind and has gone to live in the real world with the rest of us. When we meet Judy, her color has faded and her wind in her hair has died down to something that leaves her locks languid. We see them shopping and we see them at lunch and you can tell, just tell, that Judy misses the bunnies, oh yes she does. She thinks about them with every stray thought and thinks about bringing them up at every lull in the conversation, but she does not. She lives the life of a sad exile.
But as soon as lunch was over and Lydia drove away, Judy got in her car and she looked out on the sad parking lot in front of her. It was nothing but pavement and that green brown grass that is as brittle as overly-dyed hair. There were yellow lines and the haze of the hot afternoon making them flit a bit back and forth. She couldn't take it anymore. Judy had to go home. She took out her magic pipe and inhaled. This is the kind of pipe where you suck in instead of blowing out, and a little tune played. The world swirled around her and suddenly she was there, bright and relaxed and she saw the bunnies approaching the car.
"Welcome back, Judy," a big one, called Britghtstar, said to her. He was brown with a white belly and blue eyes. "Would you like to come to a picnic?" he asked, opening her car door. He took her hand and she stepped out. Suddenly she was wearing a violet gown and there were streamers hanging from a floral crown around her head. Judy was so delighted to be back, so happy to get going to a picnic. The parking lot was gone and before her there was a sea of dandelions just all yellow and magical and all you could hear was the buzzing of invisible bees going about their work. Brightstar still had her hand and she started to wade through the weeds towards whatever lunch awaited her. She took several slow steps, getting her bearings in this world that she had left for months."

"Lydia’s mother is the bartender. I can only guess the amount of restocking that will require when she leaves. She brought fairy dust. Lydia’s mom was BFF’s with Stevie Nicks in High School."

Saw it and you beat me to the post!
Thanks for doing the research..I had wondered if it was a Menlo association or from Stevie's earlier high schools before the move.
