View Full Version : The mac album you own but never listen

I'm not really a fan of the music on Behind the Mask, the only Mac album I refuse to buy.
Reading a thread in the Post-Rumours forum, about Behind the Mask, I asked myself.. is there any Fleetwood Mac album I was doubtful to buy, but at the end I did, and now that I own it, never want to listen?
I think it is Time. I do like BTM, and the only pre-Rumours album I own is Bare Trees and I liked; I don't listen it often but from time to time I enjoy it. I even enjoy Disc-4 from The Chain boxset. I think I enjoyed every Fleetwood Mac album I got, even including live, soundstages, bootlegs, etc. But Time was an album that I never got hooked by its sound. Not even Christine songs.
Is there any mac album you got, but never listen after the first times you played it?
I post this in the Rumours forum just because it's the most popular, but feel free to mention albums from any era (and if you want, even solo works, for example I bought Go Insane but I didn't like it and it's forgotten in some box).

I don't listen to all of BTM, and don't even own Time. I only listen to select songs from BTM. I did buy 2 Christine Time songs of itunes though.
But I pretty much fully enjoy the rest of them. :)

I own them all and listen to them all... I just listened to Time last week due to some talk of Dave Mason and such...
Vill I think you would really love some pre-Nicks stuff... check it out!

RUMOURS & MIRAGE and, to a SLIGHT lesser extent Fleetwood Mac (1975)
And, increasingly, ALL Fleetwood Mac albums. I'm finding myself less & less inspired to play their albums at all (well, except for the live stuff from the Peter Green era).
I think the Madison Blues set has only gotten one or two listens since I bought it...I don't seem to gravitate toward that album at all.
These days, I'm more into listening to the Allman Bros Band, Little Feat, & the Grateful Dead....I'm in a "jam band" phase right now.

Have you ever picked up Winwood's About Time... It's so much better than his latest 2008 release... About Time is a jam band album with Latin rhythms...

I feel the same way you do about TIME. The whole thing I played once and didn't like any of it, including Chris' songs. Trouble in Shangri La was a very long wait and still to this day I only like the songs produced by John Shanks. Sheryl Crow produces herself well but destroyed Stevie's songs IMO.

I really don't listen to Fleetwood Mac that much anymore. I'll get Lindsey's new album, as well as Dave Mason's new album this month. Doubt I'll play them all that much. It's definitely a part of my past. I guess I played the albums just a little too much.
Anything after Tusk doesn't get much play. It was all bland and/or hit-or-miss. Time was the one I listed to the most out of that lot. I enjoyed the chemistry between Bekka and Billy, and thought Christine had some good songs. But the rest just felt forced.

Time
Madison Blues (love it, but I have to be in the mood for it. It's been a few years now since my last mood). LOL
And while I'm at it, these solo albums, listened to all 3 once or twice only:
Crystal Vision - SN
Under The Skin - LB
Live at Bass Hall - LB

After playing Steve's latest about 200 times already, I just can't imagine that he's got a non-Traffic album any better than this latest one (which sounds an awful lot LIKE Traffic, come to think of it).
But, since About Time is the only Winwood album I DON'T have, I'll have to take your word for it. Note to self: scrounge up some bucks to get "About Time"

Tango in the Night.
It has one exceptional moment:
Lindsey's subtle, unexpected vocal coda on Stevie's "When I See You Again" still resonates. In the album's final seconds - following a collection of synthetically polished, but emotionally detached songs - two members of the band finally connect, making music together, rather than in spite of each other.

I don't listen to the Dance all that much.
The only songs I really do listen to are BTLH [waayyy better than on SYW IMO], and Silver Springs [more emotion than on Rumours...].
I usually just have some random mix on my iPod of what I'm into at that moment.
Right now hot picks are:
Gypsy [Extended]
Bleed to Love Her [Dance version]
A bunch of Mirage stuff
Thrown Down
RTTG
Angel
A lot of Stevie right now for some reason.
I usually like Chris' songs A LOT more...

I really don't listen to as much Fleetwood Mac as I should. I've got all the albums, and majority of the solo releases by the members, but sadly my wife can't stand any of it. So, either I listen to stuff when she isn't around or in the car. Plus, there are other artists that I love just as much (think Dylan).
I probably listen to more solo stuff than FM these days. Have been trying to listen to Dave Mason the past couple of nights (trying to like him). Haven't drilled my ears out yet to escape!
I guess the FM stuff that I NEVER listen to would be Future Games and Bare Trees. Really really can't tolerate those albums. Give me anything before or since and its ok (well I don't really listen to Mirage either).

Agreed :wavey:.
I'm mainly a Green fan, but became obsessed with "Bare Trees" a few months ago. Even if one doesn't like Kirwan's songs (which I can't understand :sorry:), Christine has some real nice songs on it. Never listen to Mirage, Penguin (except Nightwatch), Behind the Mask, Live (1980), don't want to own/listen to Time.
Love the 80's vibe on "Tango", but some guy named Lindsey screwed up most of "Say you will" with his gimmicky double-speed guitar overdubs :o.

I own most albums except Time and Penguin (which I eventually downloaded off a blog site and yes, its poor.) I recently picked up Behind The Mask for a £1 from a charity shop. Havent had a chance to give it a spin yet.
To be honest i'd say Tusk. It leaves me cold. Even if it was culled down to be a single LP it would still be lacking in good tunes. Very un-Fleetwood Mac-like therefore it doesnt really work for me and rarely, if ever, gets an outing.

I used to agree. My version of Tusk on iTunes currently looks like this:
Think About Me
Save Me a Place
Sara
What Makes You Think you're the One
Storms
Not That Funny
Sisters of the Moon
Over & Over
Angel
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Beautiful Child
Tusk
Never Forget
Farmer's Daughter

I recently made a list of 20 fave Mac tracks . . . I think it broke down as, and this shocked me:
Stevie - 8-1/3
Lindsey - 7-1/3
Christine - 4-1/3
EIGHT by stevie? Stevie out-numbered Lindsey!!! Christine was half that of Stevie!!!! But it's what my heart told me was true. Isn't It Midnight just missed making the list. That was probably an error.

haha.. but I admit I partially agree with AlmostSimon. Though I wouldn't say TUSK is "Very un-Fleetwood Mac-like", cause I think it was just an evolution, specially for Lindsey, but I feel Lindsey started to turn into a more "monotonous" sound.
Mick's book mention Lindsey started to watch all new wave bands concerts, but Fleetwood Mac did not become a new wave band. Instead, it tried to turn into a different sound, a sound that was included also in his solo albums, and that's what I don't like about them, some songs are too monotonus, even some in OOTC though that's is my favorite solo album.

Lets see....I don't own any or the prior S & L stuff...except whats on The Chain box set that I have. I guess I'm just not into the blues era of Fmac...not that I don't mind the blues itself...just not so much with Fmac...
I haven't listened to Fmac/white lp 75 in sometime/its ok...not crazy about Tango or Mask...its been awhile for both of those....or Dance too. Heck even Rumours/ Live/GH 88/or the Best of Fmac GH #2/or even The Chain/....I guess I've been listening to more my bootlegs because of the extended versions etc that I have and theres more different songs on them. I do love Rumours/Tusk/Mirage...and the re-issues to Rumours/Tusk but they could've put alot more different songs on it but chose not to? We all know they have more versions than even what was released too. Heck they could put whole 'live' concerts out too.....what they are waiting for I'll not ever know. Mirage so needs a re-issue as the cd is so 'low' when its played for an offical release its really a sad one period a disgrace if you ask me. No excuses really. Actually, I'm kinda wanting to listen to other artists right now. Not that Fmac/Stevie/Lindsey/Christine etc....but when you listend to there music so much....you kinda need a break. Theres so much other music to listen to. Has anyone listend to Eva Cassidy....she sadly passed away some I think 10 to 12 yrs ago....she actually did a cover of Songbird....she had cancer..check Youtube out....its such a shame she has such an impact now that she's not here. She could sing like anything. I also love Nanci Griffith...she kinda folk music like....another wonderful artist....and of course the usual classic rock artists....too much to list.....so I have great boots/masters and such to me having those are better than the offical released items sad to say...not that I don't have 'all' of those....cds/vinyl/45's/ps etc.....who knows since its been awhile since I've like looked at it all....anyway. Thats whats happening with me......:D

I don't listen to Penguin at all except for "Bright Fire." It's one of my least favorite Mac albums and I haven't really listened to BTM as much either. I also haven't heard all of the albums before "Future Games." It's not because I haven't liked what I've heard, I just haven't reached that era of FM yet. I love the whit Fleetwood Mac album, I think it is the album I listen to second most (after Tusk) and when I only have one FM disk in the CD player in the car, its the dance, I listen one quite a bit. I will confess, I only have on album of FM's that's not from the Rumours lineup, and its Then Play On. That or maybe Rumours is probably the one I listen to the least. But I still love both of those albums.
