Do not use Pro-Meris flea preventative!!! My boss was ording some stuff over the phone and the girl who was taking orders refused to sell it to her because it has killed several dogs! A customer brought some in and the fumes were so bad that I got dizzy and felt light headed! I don't think that I want to be using this on my dog or cat!
This is the season for fleas so if you have problems, please use Advantage!

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

Do you guys use a separate heartworm preventative? I use Revolution, which does fleas, ticks, heartworms, and sarcoptic mites.

We have dogs & cats. Thanks for the info. I'm surprised they still allow it on the market.

I use Interceptor for heartworm, but all heartworm meds work the same, it's just a matter of preference. I used to be a vet assistant and Interceptor is the only thing my vet sells. I just got used to using that.

Frontline and Advantage only prevent fleas, where Advantix prevent fleas, ticks, and mosquitos. I have heard bad things about Advantix, such as lots of side effects, loss of hair, and someone at my dog training club, lost her dog because of it. This has been a few years back, but I still don't use it.
The bad thing is, is that fleas can develope an immunity towards flea products over time. Advantage may work for some dogs where as Frontline may work better for others. If you look at the back of a Frontline box, it says it is safe to apply once a week, safe to use on nursing bitches, and is water proof...
I have never given my girls flea products or heartworm while PG and nursing.

I am too, but then again, there were problems with the Advantix about 3 - 4 years ago, and it is still on the market. There are warnings with using flea chemicals, mainly seizures. I think if the product has killed just one dog or cat, it should be taken off the market.

That's not true. Frontline works on both fleas & ticks. I use Frontline & Heartguard(for Heartworm). I get both of them from my vet. I've never had a problem with either of them for over 15 years.

Yeah, me, too. I've used them on my current dog & my dog before my present one & have never had a problem.
