That looks great!
Go Insane full band?!? Shut Us Down/Under The Skin back to back? Only one OOTC song? Perfectly placed bathroom/concessions break song w/ Come?
Hope this stays intact for Portland on Wednesday!!

I just got back from the show. JustCrazyLove gave us the setlist and has already expressed the excitement that's still got me a bit heady. World Turning was in the set too after Come.
I picked up a t-shirt at the door. It's black with the infamous GOS album cover on one side and a picture of Lindsey from the waist down ascending stairs on the other side. Really nice.
Lindsey emerged in a black shirt, black leather jacket and black jeans, which makes it totally different from the blue-jeaned UTS tour! He looked slimmer than he did for UTS, trim and tone.
Great Day and Love Runs Deeper sounded amazing. After LRD, Lindsey says that they were out supporting an album that . . . He paused and I mentioned that the album is "not out yet". He thought it was funny that I was right, that the album is not out yet. Yeah, I'm observant that way Linds. It's amusing to me that a guy with such a hard head has such good hearing in concert.
Later on in the evening he said that the album was coming out on September 16, he thought and asked the audience if he'd gotten that date right. Livia -- also in attendance, shouted "Yeah" confirming that he did have the right date and he acknowledged the answer. So, we felt well represented.
Lindsey said that many of us know he is from Palo Alto and mentioned that his family was there that night. He said he loved them all very much.
Just Crazy Love is right that "Go Insane" sounded incredible with a full band. It was the highlight of the evening for me, vibrant with the extra vocals and Lindsey mimicking the "go insane" echoing chant from the album. Delicious.
Gift of Screws ROCKED. A few songs afterwards, he mentioned that Gift of Screws was actually from an Emily Dickinson song and so the title is not as rude as it sounds. He said it's actually about the struggle of making perfume.
He talked about writing Big Love in 1987, which, he recalls, was not the best time in his personal life or in the lives of other band members. He mentioned that we probably knew about that, with a laugh. And he said his life has changed now that he has married and had 3 years. He can't believe it's been 20 years.
Back then, he wasn't singing just about "looking" for love. He was "looking out" for love as in guarding against it. But luckily he says, that's not true anymore.
For Did You Miss Me, he says it's the lead song off of the new album, but wonders if it should even be called a single. He said he doesn't think that term applies to him anymore. After all he says, he didn't see anyone doing a DYMM video did he? But, still, he says the song has been getting some radio airplay, even if it's not really a "single."
It was good to hear Don't Look Down, but when we told him we wanted something off of OTTC, I think we expected to get more than just that.
Time Precious Time is the only new song that didn't work for me. I know he likes to play it because of the intricate guitar work. It seems to have almost a mandarin flavor. But I'm not really into it.
He ended with Treason, which I think would have been a great anthem song, the kind that would have caught on with the public and been a rousing, singalong, show closer, if it had been released in the eighties. I liked it. Great Day, Love Runs Deeper, GOS, DYMM and Treason really make me excited for this new album.
Great man, great show. Fate takes time and watching Lindsey evolve these last decades has been well worth the wait. I feel delighted anew each time I see him and for different reasons. If I needed to be amazed, I was.

I wasn't happy having Come and ISA in the same setlist during the SYW tour and I'm not happy about it now. I wish he'd pick one or the other. The audience gets into Come later on in the song when the intensity builds up, but it's slow start doesn't help the set momentum.
I forgot to say that when Lindsey introduced Neale that he said, as usual, that he's known Neale since those big bad Malibu days when they were all hurting themselves. He added, "It's a good thing I can't remember that."
When he introduced Brett and discussed Brett's accomplishments, Neale added that Brett makes all of his own dresses. Lindsey repeated that accolade and said, "I didn't see that one coming."
He introduced Wally as the "groovin Cuban" and said the UTS tour really picked up when they added Wally. I'm sure Taku is glad to hear that from his perch in Bette Midler's band.
There were moments during Shut Us Down when Lindsey made the audience titter by playing guitar with one hand.

i bought a plane ticket to tulsa for THAT set list? ugh...
with fleetwood mac touring next year, why couldn't he have omitted shn, ngba, world turning, tusk, ikinw, and dare i say it, even gyow in favor of SOLO material since this is a SOLO tour...i believe the words on rockline were 'drastically re-tooled the set'...uh, not exactly...this isn't much different than the last tour with the exception of GOS songs replacing UTS songs...why no right place to fade? why no wait for you? why no down on rodeo? ONE song from out of the cradle? and i'd rather hear save me a place than big love yet again...

I had a feeling Holiday Road was out after re-listing to GOS (song). The chance for him to make crazy, erotic, howling noises in GOS replaces the need for it in Holiday Road.
Come/So Afraid = should not be in the setlist together. They occupy nearly 15 minutes of show. Selectively, yo ucan fit about 4 other songs in that space.
Kept, UTS but not Castaway or It Was You... eh...
I'm so stoked for hearing Go Insane and him doing the mimicked backup vocals on himself... It was slighlty a bit overkill with the slow Insane and Big Love in the set. They both have that same flavor.
I bet there's a tweak or two before I see the show in Indy, if last tour was any indication... i.e. - Turn It On, Shut Us Down, etc. Plus the one-time appearance of Bwana.
Just b/c he loves a challenge, he should go for something that was all studio, nearly impossible to replicate live... Play in the Rain, or something of that nature...

Having not heard the leaked GOS songs, I can't say how I feel about the set other than THANKTHEHEAVENS there are recognizable songs I can groove too for my shows...I admit to nightmares of every song being from GOS before the album is even officially released. Not being sure whether a reaction of swoon, scream, bounce, dance, wail, faint or sob is appropriate can be frightening... :o

I loved hearing the new songs last night. Great Day reminded me of something from Go Insane and Love Runs Deeper sounded great. I thought Did You Miss Me was the most boring of the new songs played.
I kept hoping for more OOTC and Lindsey solo songs and was a little bummed by all the FM songs. I know he needs to do a few and GYOW gets everybody on their feet but they were the same FM songs as usual. He could have done some different songs from Tusk or I would have loved Tango in the Night.

Some recognition needs to be done:
JustCrazyLove - Thanks for the Set List. I know it's not easy, remembering all of those titles. I was trying to keep track of the Bob Seger set list back in 2007. You wanna hear the songs and yet you gotta keep focused, and write in the dark.... That was a lot of songs in LB's set list.
Michelej1 - Thank you for the running commentary. I am amazed that you had the guts to yell at him that the CD isn't out yet. ( ) I love impromptu stuff where he trades comments back and forth with the audience.
You brought some good insight about the songs which were chosen. I was ready to be disappointed, and then you told me why I should like the set list. Thanks. Also, thanks for the description of the T-shirts. (A photo from the waist down?) Did they have any autographed CD's or keychains or cheesy stuff....stuff, that I would really need and HAVE to buy?
Golden Braid - Like you, I would love to hear Tango the Night, but I suppose he has to play to the masses (or play what is familiar to the masses.)
I wonder if he'll be in the mood to do "requests" like he did last time? (At least little snippets of songs....like Johnny Stew.)
Come on Denver -- Sept. 24!

Niki,
With no offense to UTS (I miss Show You How being in the setlist), it is MUCH easier to dance, bounce, wail, faint and indulge any other kinds of emotional excess in response to these new songs than it was to, um, Castaway Dreams.
You know, he starts the show off talking about a wet girl hiding in his room. He hates to hover, but he has to love her. That's a pretty nice beginning;).
He ends by saying that it was not such a great day after all, but it got me thinking it was going to be a great night.
I'm not really into Shut Us Down. I'd like to see that gone. Save it for FM and sing it to Stevie, in place of Say Goodbye.
Zzagar, I think that by doing Go Insane with a band, it is distinguished from Big Love. It made me hope that he would do Big Love with a band, especially when he started the intro to Big Love saying it had been through many incarnations. I thought he meant he was going to revert back to one of his old incarnations.
Troubling note: When Lindsey introduced Big Love and said he wrote it during his last year with FM (during his first stint with the band), he did not say he left as a survival move. I found the omission very alarming and wanted to run up on the stage and take his temperature.
Betsy, and you know I really didn't YELL either. So, I was somewhat surprised that Lindsey heard me. I was annoyed by the album not being out, but it has nothing to do with him really. Poor devil. He made me laugh when he said that he didn't see anyone around shooting videos of his Did You Miss Me song. I guess if he hadn't done the home made videos for UTS, he wouldn't have any at all. If that guy wants videos, I'm mad at WB for not giving them to him.
Yes, I WAS surprised about the picture of him ascending the stairs on the t-shirt, but it was the first thing that caught my eye. I think there were about 4 different shirts. I have to say -- you can't tell much from the waist down -- but it wasn't like he was going up the stairs with alacrity. His jacket is drooping, his hand is hanging by his side. I think an active person takes the stairs with their arms raised a bit -- in a racer's stance. I wish his body looked a little more energetic tackling those stairs , but I think it's still a cool picture. I'd like to wear that on the FRONT of my shirt really.
There were autographed Bass Hall cds. I didn't see any key chains.

You have to remember that some people like to just watch Lindsey play guitar. I'm the same with Richard Thompson. I'm disappointed if I don't get Shoot Out The Lights and one of his epic guitar workouts like Hard On Me or Can't Win. I don't really like Come all that much, but Lindsey does beat the crap out of the guitar on it which is always exciting.

Michele -- you didn't *yell*? And he still heard you? He DOES have good hearing. I used to watch Bee Gee's concerts and they always had the ear plug things in. He doesn't wear them on stage, does he?
Important information needed --
Does he use a guitar pick on any songs? Does he toss the pick into the audience?
Does he perform any songs just by himself, or is it the whole band on everything?
I'm iwth zzagar...Right Time to Fade...where art thou in the set list?
Ditto with I Will Wait for You...
Maybe the songs are too old and he likes his *new* stuff.

Ok first impressions...Do we really need come and I Know Im Not Wrong again? I am really worn out on those two. Im guessing he wanted to do a song from SYW and that was the one we got, which I am not too thrilled about.
Even though its one song, Im so glad hes doing Don't Look Down. Just something to represent that album...its always appreciated.
I am really excited for the new songs. Ive heard Love Runs Deeper, Did You Miss Me, and some parts of Treason and I know I am already in love with both of these.
I am glad hes doing Shut us Down again...to me that is one of the best off UTS. Sorry Michele, Show You How just bores me to tears.
I am completely baffled that he is not doing Holiday Road. That may be his most famous song next to Go Your Own Way. Everybody and their mother knows Holiday Road.
Now everyone promise me youre gunna yell out the Right Place to Fade at your concerts because this needs to be added.
Thank you Michele and justcrazylove for reporting back to us. Now some questions....
How was the audience? Did they stand for the rockers??

From the majority of reports, seems peeps are prettywell pleased with GOS, so I imagine I will be as well.
Lindsey has bionic ears...he heard/responded to my low purr from 4th row.
Telling, his ears went cauliflower at Grove last year when Kirsten growled spitfire "That was your son!" in response to Lindsey missing Williams' "I Love you Daddy." HMMM.

Betsy,
He used the pick for UTS and he did throw it into the audience. He also threw his towel into the audience and the same person who got the pick got the towel.
Lindsey does have some sort of gray ear things in his ears during the show.
Jimmy, before the show started, the security person told us if we stood, we should stand right in front of our seats and not approach the stage. Some people protested that Lindsey LIKES for us to approach the stage and play his guitar during GYOW. The security person said they were the venue's rules and she didn't want us at the stage, but she conceded that if Lindsey asked us to play his guitar, we should do it.
I don't like to stand anyway, so I didn't. The people around me did. Livia tried to test them before the show asking the people in back of her, "If I stand up, you aren't going to yell at me to sit down are you?" The guy never really gave her a straight answer. So, I got the impression he didn't really want her to stand. Still, several enthusiastic people timed their stand up dancing together, figuring that if a bunch of them did it, no one could get too upset. That seemed to work and towards the end of the show, most people were on their feet.
I think it was an enthusiastic crowd. Michele

I'm pretty pleased with this setlist, but I'm also excited that I'm seeing him toward the end of the tour (second to last weekend and last show) so that all the little unnecessaries or omissions can have a chance to work themselves out. The only song I'm really sad not to see is "Wait for You", so I hope that gets thrown in. Other than that, I'm going to be seeing the dude in person for the first time after 11 years, so I'm not feeling too picky.

Excellent setlist! I am one of the few (it seems) who loves that Come and ISA are both in the setlist. I doubted he'd drop ISA and I wanted him to add Come as well. It sounds like I'm going to really enjoy this show. I cannot wait to hear Go Insane done with a full band
Was SUD done solo or was it done like the fantastic full band version from the Ellen Show?
I am so, so, so, so glad Holiday Road has been dropped! I like the studio version but the live version from the last tour never really did much for me since it was mostly just samples. I'm sure I'd love it if I was actually in the room listening to it, but given the choice I'm glad it's been replaced.
Last questions - was Walfredo on a real drum kit or was it those MIDI things again? If he's not on a real kit then how do the MIDI sample drums hold up to the rocking setlist? I thought that the more rocking songs on the UTS tour could have used a real kit - especially Tusk, GYOW and ISA.

the kit was a midi kit with a real snare and real cymbals just like last year, but without a doubt the sound coming of this kit was incredible and bigger than the UTS tour. Wally is an amazing drummer and really rocked the house without a doubt the second best musician on the stage!

Jimmy, I would take I Know I'm Not Wrong a thousand, million times over I'm So Afraid! That song is fantastic live and one of my favourites from Tusk. ISA is so worn out and predictable. It's become Lindsey's Dreams (GYOW doesn't count, because that pretty much always rocks).

That's exactly what I thought about "Wally". He tore it up.
Trouble was not like the UTS tour, it was a bit more rocking - it was very, very good, I think I got tears. :p
The inclusion of Come was great, and it was shorter than before, which made it better. But then, I really like Come.
I'm not usually super mega stoked for ISA, but this time I was. Although it would be nice to hear other things, like people have already said, ISA was good, sounded a bit different (I can't remember exactly how it was different, maybe the vocal, or maybe it was a bit shorter, it just seemed less draggy and more full of cool stuff) and I was both delighted and lacking the urge to use the restroom during ISA this time.
In addition to the funny quip that Lindsey threw in during his "Malibu House" introduction of Neal ("good thing I don't remember most of that!") -
when Linds was introducing Brett and saying how he's so versatile, plays this, that, and the other, Neal piped up with "And he makes his own dresses!!" which was super funny. Brett goes "And I'm f*cking good at it, too!" or something like that.
I was very impressed with the GOS songs, and can't wait for the album. Like Deb said, the Did You Miss Me song was actually (IMO) the weakest of the new tracks.

Honestly, If we're talking about Come, Im So Afraid, and I Know Im Not Wrong I would want Come to be dropped. Its just Come doesn't really have a catchy melody or anything. I feel like ISA is a good song, plus a great guitar solo. Now when your throwing in two of these kinds of songs is where it starts to get old. One or the other, Id be cool for ISA to drop.
Or for both ISA and Come to be dropped and add 4 songs from OOTC. :D

I second mylittledemons motion!....which make this motion PAS...WHERE THE VIDS AT FOOS!?!?!?!
Here are my misc. notes from Saratoga show. I really enjoyed the show, I think more so than Under the Skin Tour.
Really enjoyed the full band version of Go Insane. Sounded awesome, Lindsey playing acoustic guitar, and I thought it was really entertaining [in a good way] how Lindsey even could do the low voiced "go insane" lyric. I was crying with laughter.
Trouble was also a full band version, similar to the 92 Out of the Cradle Tour version, with Neil doing the ascending guitar riff.
I also was not a big fan of both ISA and Come. Both have the solo where Lindsey does the Frankenstein impression walking around on stage. I only need to see this maybe one time. :)
Lindsey used a pick on Under the Skin, and did throw to the audience. I think some of his family was in the front row, so they got it. Along with a sweaty towel at some point.
Also, I did not think it was so good to close with Treason. People where on their feet for the last couple songs, then as the last song, Treason is introduced, which was kinda a downer, people sat down, etc. Would rather have closed with something stronger and known by the audience. Maybe they will change that for the SF show.
Lindsey had a new guitar I had not seen before, not sure what kind. If anyone knows, please send me a note! Was used on "Did You Miss Me", plus a couple of other numbers. Looks kinda like his Turner/Renaissance acoustic electrics, but a smaller body, and a single neck pickup, no soundhole.
I would have liked to see higher attendance. The venue was maybe 75% full. But the people there seemed to be into the show, which was good.
The food was not good at the venue. I didn’t do the prix fixe dinner, but I would have liked better other options. Note for future shows at Mountain Winery.

I didn稚 do the prix fixe dinner, but I would have liked better other options. Note for future shows at Mountain Winery.
Thanks for your notes! Do you know where Love Runs Deeper was in the set? Also, how was Don't Look Down?
This was the setlist [as posted earlier], with the addition of World Turning + the drum sampling thing someplace in the middle. Lover Runs Deeper sounded really good, the sound was excellent, full, and vocals were good.
Don't Look Down was a surprise, I remember in the rockline interview he noted they would put more OOTC songs in the setlist, so I was waiting for something. He played his Turner electric, and did acoustic introduction on that guitar as well. I kinda like the 92 OOTC tour version a little better, because he inserted the solo bit on that arrangement, which was omitted last night. But was good, nevertheless.
Set list [+World Turning someplace in the middle]:

...the ambiance music, the stuff played over the PA while we were anxiously waiting for LB to take the stage, was...LB music. Guitar instrumentals of some of his songs, I recognized Down On Rodeo. I don't remember this minor touch from the Under the Skin tour.
Also, played the Clash, which I can't complain about, either.

Just got home from the airport a couple hours ago. Y'all pretty much covered everything. A few notes:
The girl who got the pick and the towel was not a member of LB's family. The family members were all sitting in the raised section to the right of the stage.
I really liked the set list - the GOS songs all sounded great. I thought DYMM was fantastic live, but I really love that song anyway. My only disappointment was that there were not more songs from OOTC.
I thought the crowd was lame - relatively speaking - compared to the Texas crowds I'm used to (and you crazy Texas/OK Ledgies). :D But yeah, once GYOW was played, everyone was on their feet.
Yeah, the pre-show was music was really cool.
The Mountain Winery is now my 2nd favorite outdoor venue, Red Rocks being #1.
I have a feeling if the album takes off, they'll add more dates. Hopefully, another run through the south.

There are some cute "girlie" shirts they're selling. They say "Lindsey Buckingham" at the top with an upright guitar below that. I don't recall what kind of guitar it is, sorry. I believe they had men's sizes of that shirt too.
Michele, regarding the Sept. 16 comment: I thought LB said, "I've got a new album coming out...uh...sometime this month..." I said, "The 16th!" And then Lindsey said, "Yeah, that's right, the 16th." :D I was purposely loud, but I can't believe he heard you make your comment about the album not being out yet, you were so quiet.
Y'all are gonna be blown away by the full-band version of "Go Insane." That was a definite highlight.

Aha!
After Did You Miss Me, when Lindsey turned away to get his other guitar people were yelling at him, "Yes we missed you Lindsey!" I thought that was funny.
Also, I loved that song live too and was grateful to have a new one that I could sing along with. I have a copy of Time Precious Time from the radio as well and I guess I could have learned that well enough to sing along with at the show, but that one didn't do much for me. DYMM is infectious.

Thanks! :wavey: The show and the GOS songs were too good not to say anything...
I thought the crowd was lame - relatively speaking
Hey, don't talk about me that way!!!;) But seriously, they were kinda lame...last time we went to Lindsey there, this security yard duty lady sat by me the whole time to keep me from getting up and dancing, because people behind were complaining. This time was better - we were at the end of the 3rd row right in front of Brett and a speaker with no one in front of us - we got up and danced some.
The Mountain Winery is now my 2nd favorite outdoor venue, Red Rocks being #1.
Isn't it spectacular? I wish I lived up there, it even smells really good.
I would have said "hi" if I had known you were there.:woohoo: I kept seeing a girl I thought looked familiar, but I don't know if it was you. Are you going to San Francisco show?
Livia
09-09-2008, 07:48 PM
No San Fran for me. I wasn't online once I started packing Friday night and flew to Cali Sat. If I knew you were going, I would have definitely wanted to hook up and say hi at some point. You too, GoldenBraid!
Here's a pic of the set list I snagged, and the best pic I was able to take all night, without using a flash, holding the camera in my lap. They were VERY strict re: cameras - searching bags and making people return cameras to their cars. I think I only noticed one flash going off at the beginning of the show, and I didn't turn around to see what happened w/ that person.

I noticed a lot of you are whining about Lindsey's setlist. I for one am thrilled he is touring at all. I have no complaints about his choices. I'm glad he has included Come this time around. I can't wait to hear him rock the house. In fact, I'd love it if he just played Come, I'm so Afraid, Tango in the Night, This is the Time, and Countdown all in a row on volume 11. Then take a breather and play Not that Funny, then do it all over again until my ears bleed! I'd go home deaf, but happy!:)

Thank Livia for the photos (esp. the set list) and commentary.
Can I ask a question -- When LB performed DYMM live, did he raise his voice an octave, speed up the melody or get louder on the chorus? (Maybe it's too hard to remember.)
You guys are so lucky to get to hear the first two concerts...when the performers are as excited as the audience is.

DYMM was pretty much like the studio version - he did raise his voice on the chorus at the end. Maybe not a whole octave, but it was very similar to the studio version.

I do appreciate ANYONE who has the gumption to post the live concert photos. It takes fear and guts to do it [take photos during a concert.]
I was able to sneak a camera in at the Boulder Show. The security man was large (think former pro wrestler) and literally knocked a guy's hand down as he was taking a photo with his phone. In doing so, Mr. Security pushed people out of the way to get to the camera man.
I got a few photos, but they were all blurry...fear makes me shake the camera, I guess.

I just got one of those Live Nation surveys about the concert. It asked a lot of questions about the venue, but whenever I had the opportunity, I boasted about Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac, hoping that will help the band negotiate a deal in 2009.
At the end, the survey asked me a question about my opinion of Samsung. So, I wondered if they are a potential sponsor. Coincidentally, at the concert, I spilled a bottle of water in my purse. It ruined my Iphone and my Palm Pilot, but my Samsung cell phone carried on. Samsung takes a licking and keeps on ticking. So, I gave it high marks with Live Nation.

I'm seeing him in a couple weeks and my thoughts on the setlist:
Go Insane full band! While I thought his acoustic performance of this song was more intense than the album version by far, it's going to be interesting to see this done differently (ironically, "differently" being closer to the album version than his usual live arrangement).
I'm bummed that DLD is the only OOTC song... I was so hoping for Soul Drifter. Oh well, at least he's including one.
No Holiday Road? That one always got the crowd going and I agree that it is arguably his best known solo song (thanks to tons of replays of National Lampoon's Vacation). A mistake to drop it. I'll miss Castaway Dreams as well, but you can't have everything, and I do realize that slow songs often don't play as well live. I also wish Wait for You was there... oh, how I love that song!
Come... eh. It's like the poor man's ISA. We don't need it - but ISA is indispensable, IMHO. If one of 'em goes, it should be Come. Lindsey not doing ISA, a showpiece, would be like Stevie not doing Edge of Seventeen for her solo shows. Also, I love seeing how he's changed it from previous tours - there's always tweaks with each new go 'round on the road.
I'm very excited to hear the new songs!

That looks like Brett's guitar tech's set list/notes. So he knows which guitars to have ready for each song, and how they need to be tuned.

HA! Well, I wasn't fishing for compliments - I was just wondering who all the lurkers are.
Okay I admit it I知 one of the lurkers! lol This is my first post so Hi everybody.
I知 a big fan of great guitar players, and yes as my name implies I have been to a lot of concerts and have many front row shows under my belt. Some of my front row shows include, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour (twice), Jeff Beck (twice), Robin Trower, and BB King, just to name a few.
I致e got 4th row tickets for Lindsey痴 Anaheim show and am really looking forward to it! It will be my first Lindsey/Fleetwod Mac show so I知 excited, I do own the Bass Performance Hall DVD/CD so I kind of know what to expect, and basically I知 expecting a lot the DVD is very good.
One thing about this thread though is a few have said they would want to see I知 So Afraid off the set list. From the guitar player fan in me I think ISA is one of the best songs on the set list. I知 really looking forward to seeing that song live.
I知 sure I値l post more after the show Friday. Is anyone else going? If so is there a meet up planned?
