Oregon, Washington, Canada? Am about to embark on a LONG road trip that's taking me to all the above places. Wondered if any Ledgies from any of those parts had insight to points of interest, points to stay away from. I'm on no schedule for this trip, and will likely meander onto cool things, but I'd hate to have gone to any State/Country only to find that a local tells me later, OMG, you DIDN'T go there?!?!?!?

Anita, you will be in Cascadia Subduction Zone territory, so this should be exciting.

Scientific findings of the last several years have shown that the Oregon coast is vulnerable to great (magnitude 8 to 9) earthquakes that can occur on the offshore Cascadia sudbuction zone (CSZ) fault system. CSZ earthquakes are rare events: the last great quake occurred about 300 years ago. They occur every 200 to 600 years, it is believed.
Visit the following sites on your trip through the Pacific Northwest:
1. Oregon Department of Geology & Mineral Industries

2. NOAA Center for Tsunami Research (Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory)
http://nctr.pmel.noaa.gov/
3. Humboldt State University in Arcata (CA), Department of Oceanography

See this list of tsunami brochures for points along the Oregon Coast:

WOW! That kinda rocks. I am earthquake Queen, having been in one of the largest Stockton, Ca. had ever seen (though it was nothing compared too) the Loma Prieta Quake, and the LA quake, so if it's gonna hit, surely it'll do so as I'm traveling thru. lol
I had said from the get go, I didn't wanna come home, so maybe the CSZ is destined to swallow me up!
Joking aside, the Geological Oregon locale would actually be right up my alley!
Thanks man!

Thanks man!
ABut all kidding aside, Anita, if you have an extra few days, you must take the drive east from Portland along the Columbia River Gorge. Awesome.
When you get to Washington, see the parks on the Olympic Peninsula.

Yes, you must go to Multnomah Falls, and Vista House.

Both are less than 35 miles from downtown Portland, and definitely worth the drive.

I'm also a huge Twin Peaks nut, and eager to do my own TP guide since I never got to be a total nerd and go to a TP convention. But there are 2 Snoqualmie's in WA. One near North Bend & Cedar Falls, the other almost at the border, but I can't read a map for **** so maybe I was reading part of the State Parks, cause now I can't find it. Anyway, I am REALLY excited to see that area. I hear it's just gorgeous.

Vancouver? Capilano Suspension Bridge. http://www.capbridge.com/ My friend went there when we were little, and ever since then I've wanted to go SOOOO BADLY...it looks so unbelieveably beautiful. So I'll recommend it to you, so that you can take pictures and I can live vicariously through them. ;)
I'm not so familiar with the west coast...never been. I've heard Victoria, BC is beautiful, and I've also heard that it's really really lovely on Vancouver Island. And there are tons of coastal mini-cruises for whale watching and stuff, and just seeing the sights.
Points to stay away from...well, I know some of downtown Vancouver is apparently quite sketchy. I think it's the west end? Not sure. But I'm told one should ask around, so maybe check at your hotel or something...because apparently you don't want to wander through those areas. However, it's likely nothing worse than your average less-than-touristy part of any big city.
Have a great trip, sounds wonderful!!

It's the Eastside of downtown that you want to stay away from. Grosse Mountain in North Vancouver is also great if you are into hiking.

Jimi Hendrix is buried in Renton WA at Greenwood Memorial. The Space Needle, monorail, Experience Music Project museum, Farmer's Market and the first Starbucks coffee shop are about 20 minutes away in Seattle if you haven't done that ever.

There's a Jimi Hendrix statue in Capitol Hill (Seattle) which is 'gay central'.
Mount Rainier Park (WA) is really beautiful.
