I'm starting to wonder what he meant by "ROCK"? Aside from the leftovers from that solo album he's working on, still working on actually... I'm not hearing the Turner plugged into the stacked amps ready to blow my mind...

This just seems like a continuation of UTS...? Love Runs Deeper may be a good one, but aside from the ones we've already heard... I'm hoping the rest of the song does something. The falsetto, whispered lyrics with the accoustic guitar is wearing thin...

I will state that I love this man and his music, but there are songs we all FFWD, I just hope this CD isn't 60% FFWD.

I competely agree. This whispering down the Mic has to go.
I will be completely dissappointed if the Model 1 isnt blowing through those boogie amps, to the point where I would start saying Lindsey is BETTER with Fleetwood Mac than he is as a SOLO Artist.
Okay he's had a few good solo Singles but they don't cover the same amount of ground as when he is with the MAC.

Thanks Ireland for the Heads Up.

Interesting sounds...that one song reminds me of the Go Insane album, particularly "Play in the Rain".

It (GOS album) is an interesting "collection" and definitely not the same sound theme running through it.

[Later...I gotta go listen again.]

It's hard to gauge the full impact or sound of the tunes from thesee 48 second clips.... So I'll wait to hear the full versions before deciding if I like it or not.... But some of them sound really interesting:thumbsup:

From what I heard, I absolutely love it! Time Precious Time sounds like its gonna be a winner but you didnt hear enough of it!! Love Runs Deeper was just gettin great when it cut off.....Great Day is wicked!!! I love it and agree that sounds like something from GO INSANE.

So happy Shuffle Riff ( Wait For You ), Twist Of Fate ( The Right Place To Fade ) and Gift Of Screws all made it on here!! Hearing them with clarity was so great!!

Underground and Bel Air Rain sound like they are gonna be good songs but again, he tends to build up in songs before the explosive finale so its hard to pass judgement on those just yet--any of them for that matter!

If anybody does go give em a listem keep in mind they are posted backwards and the first is the last song--last song being the first:]

Having just listened again to these louder... The sound on these rips isn't very good.... Sounds as if someone was recording these with another device... Also, does one of them sound like there's an audience clapping at the beginning?

Yeah it appears that Bel air Rain has an audience clapping for some reason, where was that recorded.

I also agree with the sound quality. The songs I already had from the original GOS were much clearer and crisper than those recordings.

All in all though I think the album will be okay. Not the Rock album we expected, Not the Billboard top 50. Not Rumours 2 or Tusk 2.
It appears to be a mish mash of lindsey old styles mixed with his new styles. For that reason however I am still expecting good things to ome from the album.

Hrm.

I'm not thrilled at the moment, but they are just sound clips. It sounds like all the guitar parts were taken from previous songs. I could sing along to the new songs with older lyrics. Nothing new/innovative at this point to my ears.

I guess I'm in the minority here... but I really like what I'm hearing. I wasn't really excited at all about another Lindsey album after Under The Skin, but these clips sure fixed that! From the clips so far I like Bel Air Rain the most. This album sounds far more balanced than UTS... pop, rock, slow, fast, experimental, and safe songs are all represented in these clips. Will it be another Out Of The Cradle? Probably not... but it could easily become Lindsey's second best album from what I'm hearing.

See, I never expected it to be a rock album and I didn't think that from what Lindsey said. I just thought it wouldn't be acoustic like UTS. I thought it was going to have more music in it, more bass, lead guitar, less spare drumming. That's what I was thinking when he said it was going to rock more.

No, I think it sounds amazing too. A great companion piece to UTS.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the names except for the 3 I recognized.

As for buying the CD - of course I will buy it.

When he did Soundstage I bought 4 copies from PBS . and sent 3 to friends.
When he did UTS, I bought 5 one for each ticket I bought and an autographed one at the venue, (plus I gained another friend )
When he did the Bass - I bought 6 and sent 5 to Europeans friends. and gained another friend
Come September, I guess I am in for 7 copies... and now, I gotta go find me another new friend.

(Bad habit of mine...I buy my friends --- with Lindsey Buckingham music.)

I just don't get it... He said he wanted to rock more as a Quartet w/ Mac (sans McVie)... and now on his own he's never really shown me that "masculine" force he's preached about... I haven't seen it since.. Tango... and OOTC

Live is a different story of course... but his music in the studio from SYW to UTS.. to me has been sort of vanilla and light...

Gee....people are worked up here today....Some clown releases some badly ripped song samples and everyone starts making half-witted judgments. How come? Nothing better to do? I love the it is not rocking enough complaining. What were you all expecting? Except for a couple of tunes, how much hard rock has Lindsey ever done in his career, particularly on record? It just not what this man does and when he does do it, I don't think he does it all that well. Come, on record, never did it for me. A nicely constructed solo, but constructed is the key word there. Live it works for me better. I just think some peoples personal desires got in front of what would realistically be produced by this artist. I will wait for the CD before I make an opinion on the music I am hearing. I for one am hoping for an album of well crafted, well sung songs, suitably recorded and mixed, that sound like good Lindsey Buckingham tunes.

actually, I think, I might just buy this one :blob2:...I quite like what little we hear and I'm really pleased he left those 3 songs that we already knew, on there! I do agree that the high whispering has to go though, I'd rather hear a harder normal 50yr old something singing voice any day! (or maybe studio tweaked to sound younger if necessary). Sounds good to me so far though, encouraging!!!

Well I somehow have missed Shuffle Riff all these years, cause I've known GOS and Right Place To Fade forever but never downloaded Shuffle Riff. That was by far my favorite clip too, Shuffle Riff. I'm so glad now I've never heard it cause its actually going to be a new song to me, completely by mistake but thats fine with me.

And so far i'm in the best 3 songs are Wear You Down, Gift of Screws and Right Place to Fade. It's not even that they're actually rocking, even though they are. For me it's that they're not that danmed quick sped up guitar over a whispered vocal **** that he's re wrote about 20 times the past decade. I really like Bel Air Rain a lot, and I have to say its probably his BEST fast picked guitar song to date, but about 3 other songs just sound like Blah Not Too Lates, especially Time Precious Time.

Well, they were recorded in hotel rooms on a portable 16 track. Who knows what kind of mics he used?! I am a bit disappointed in the production quality, but the songs themselves are great. I hate the percussion style that he used on "Show You How", "Great Day" and other tracks where he's just tapping the mic for drum sounds, and the cheesy digital metronome as a percussion noise. It's funny he did that because he has such a reputation for being a great sound guy.

I could do without the metronome sounds as well. I don't mind the mic tapping but I have no love for the tip-tap-tip-tap of the metronome. I wonder what he thinks it adds.

Oh yeah, I also hate that contraily reverb he's been using like on "Castaway Dreams". It sounds like when I first started messing around with reverb units a couple of years ago. My singer was drowning in it. It seems the style of his songs would better fit a more natural sound, rather than using loads of reverb to fill up the empty space due to the spare rhythm section. There are different kinds of reverb that don't sound so fake that accomplish the same thing. It's minor, but it's annoying.

I was actually referring to the Youtube sound clips themselves, not the production values of the actual tracks.

I do agree re: the lameness of metronome/mic tapping in lieu of actual percussion. Then again, when has Lindsey ever exhibited solid musicianship/overall good taste with his drum/percussion tracks over the years? I'll never be able to take the Out of the Cradle recording seriously due to the lame, unnecessary, outdated (even for 1992) Fairlight-drenched drum machines featured on just about every track.

C'mon guys, lets not shoot the album down before it hits the streets.

Lindsey is a genious, he's a perfectionist, he's eccentric...bordering madness in the studio...he is what he is and I myself am just thankful to get new music period because lets face it---he has always sacrificed his personal works for the sake of new a new Mac album. He used to have alot more time to dedicate himself in the home studio but my "guess" is that his prioroties have changed and his attention to detail has mellowed with a wife and kids.

No, its not OOTC but what I heard was great---went in with an open mind to expect most anything and was pleased....very pleased.

I think we are getting our cart before our horses to judge it now---let it come out and keep an open mind and dont stress obver it! :p:blob1::]:wavey:.

To those who are saying that you can judge the album by these small clips, well I think you're kind of right. You can get a pretty danmed good idea. I mean I dount the other 3 minutes of those songs are gonna be drastically different then the clip you heard. And I doubt sound quality is gonna turn a bad song into a great song or a great song into a horrible one. So if people really hated these clips, I don't think its fair to say to them, they're idiots for judging the album before hearing the whole songs.

Well, I'm not sure. I do think that there are vocal moments in a song, brief passages, that can save something that's otherwise mediocre. In so many songs, the last 40 seconds or so are really the point whether everything gets hotter and more dramatic. Maybe the tempo speeds up, the vocal gets more emotional or intense, a new guitar riff or lick is thrown in, additional lyrics accentuate the chorus. Lots of things can happen. I don't think a song goes from black to white in the spread of a minute, but for me it can change from a "C" to an "A" based on a few glorious moments.

I have to say that I totally agree with you. I mean all that was posted was the intro to every song. As far as I'm concerned, the best part from DYMM was that bit towards the end when he altered the vocal melody in the chorus slightly, that brought one hell of a smile to my face. If I had only listened to the 1st 50 or so seconds, then I doubt I'd be as pleased with it as I am now.

I refused to listen to the clips. I'm going to wait until I get the actual CD and listen to it all the way through. I will agree with some of the earlier posts. I'm ready to hear Lindsey without the whispery voice! It would be okay sometimes, but I really hate it when you can't hardly tell one song from the next----same voice, same tone, same basic music. I don't want Lindsey to fall into that rut. He has always been so inventive and creative. Lindsey's music has always been different, and you can always tell one song from the next. I want it to stay that way.

Really? Oh, I'll probably get flamed to hell and back for this, but even some of his stuff going back to Tusk is interchangeable to me from a sonic standpoint. That was NOT the case on Law and Order and certainly not OOTC, and I can always go back to those for some ear-tickling.

UTS was obviously deeply personal and moving, but from a production standpoint most of it was a mess. Click tracks left all over the place, muddy vocals, distortion that didn't sound intentional (esp. on the vocal tracks). Only a few songs show his true studio genius, "Down On Rodeo" being the best. That and "Red Rover" are my two favorite tracks of the current era from him.

There, and now I will pull on my asbestos coverall. :)

I still don't get the click tracks but they've never really bothered me too much. I'm sure I could have done without them though.

None of the vocals really struck me as muddy. Which ones were you thinking of?

I get distortion on the chorus of It Was You on the "because IIIIIIIIII waited..." part on most of the speakers I play it on. I think it didn't distort my monitors or my studio headphones but I'll have to double check. That lead me to think that it had been mastered just too damn loud that most speakers distorted on that part due to the high RMS volume as opposed to the distortion actually being on the vocals. I'll need to double check that. Either way it's a mistake that shouldn't have happened. Any other points of distortion you noticed?

I noticed this too. It's not distorting on our speakers, he just recorded it with too hot a signal. It was distorting at the source, so there is no way to make it sound like it isn't distorting on our end. If you were to listen to the original track, you would see that it peaked above 0db and he would have had to rerecord it to fix it.

But how could someone with so many years experience make such a simple mistake? Is it because it's digital instead of analogue? Maybe he thinks that if you record hot with digital you get the same nice saturation that you'd get from using a tape. If he's peaking above 0dB on the basic recorded track then he's about 18dB too hot  How did he not hear the distortion and go back and fix it? I'm sure he must have heard it when he was mixing it.

(This could also explain his strange fondness in recent years for a phased effect on vocals, with all the bottom end removed.)

Sometimes that happens. I mean, when recording Alex for some of the demos we were doing, we'd frequently end up in the red. I had her about ten feet from the mic, a 20db pad on it, a nice Focusrite compressor and limiter, and the gain all the way down. She still managed to distort at times. Sir Mix-A-Lot's engineer in Tacoma said that one opera singer he recorded was about 40 feet away and she still hit the red.

I don't mind the vocal effects. It took me by surprise just how much bottom end he'd removed on Did You Miss Me but I didn't mind it and now I don't notice it.

I had wondered if it was something to do with him recording stuff outside the studio and he's trying to get rid of unwanted frequencies but he that's the case he's taking it to the extreme and removing way more than he probably needs to. I record in the crappiest sounded room around and I don't cut nearly as much low frequencies so I don't know what he's doing. (Although my best still isn't even close to Lindsey's worst in sound quality) He must just be doing it for effect.

Yeah, I don't get that. I thought his radio performance of DYMM sounded much better vocally than the actual studio version. Both versions could have used some autotune, but the live one was so much better sounding.

But Lindsey's no opera singer!

Alex must have some voice! I'd love to hear some of your stuff if you've got a link to some clips or anything. I never had a problem with clipping, but I've got a whispery, weak little voice so maybe that's why

I do! It's all on iTunes and Amazon under "Sinai 48". We also have a myspace page. For the best example of Alex's power, try her on our tune "You Don't Know". She kicks some serious butt there. If you pm me, I can email you a song.

Lindsey's cd will be reduced to sawdust before it's even released! hehe Can't wait to read the manifestos when everyone actually gives listen with the cd in their hands! For additional reverb, give listen while your taking your evening constitutional. :D

I think it sounds pretty great. And I'll even go as far as to say that this could be his strongest album in years. Not sure about all you naysayers, but Lindsey Buckingham has been at his creative peak with every single new record. And he's still there today.
I love the sound of Under The Skin and the production on GOS sounds similar. It has nothing to do with his singing or lack there of. But it has a lot to do with wanting to do something new and interesting.
