View Full Version : Hannah Montana To Remake "Bella Donna"

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine Miley Cyrus was quoted as saying "my next CD will be a remake of Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna". She went on to say that it was one of her dads favorite albums, hence her familiarity with all the songs. And she had recently used the new Apple Computer program V.D.C.A. (Voice Database Comparison Analyzer). And it turned out >87% on similiarity between her and Stevie's voices. So her father contacted Jimmy Iovine (produced Bella Donna) to see what he thought of the idea of a remake. And he wasn't interested until they sent him the V.D.C.A. test results. Not only did Mr. Iovine think it was a good idea, he wants to produce it himself. As long as he can choose her duet partner for the song "Leather and Lace". She agreed and the project has a green light. Recording will start in December 2008 with hope of an March '09 release. With a major concert tour to support the album.

Sounds a bit like MORE Rolling Stone crap-a-zine B.S. gossip to me, why remake a classic - especially when the singer is a 'teeny-bopper'? I doubt her fan-base would understand the idea...
I guess next we'll hear the Jonas bros. will remake the classic Slayer album "Reign in Blood" and see if Rick Rubin (Who 'produced' the Slayer classic) would be interested in 'producing' it. One can only hope the Naked brothers band can remake Deicide's classic "Legion"...

If this is true, I think it's actually a really intresting thing. I don't think it's a bad idea at all. covering like Edge or Stand Back would suck, but this whole recreating Bella Donna thing would be awseome. And the whole voice thing is kind of true. My dad heard the song seven on the radio and said he swore she sounded like Stevie Nicks when she was young. I can kind of see it too. Imagine her follow up tour. Miley Cyrus would have a concert filled half way with Stevie Nicks songs (more then you get to hear at a Stevie Nicks show by the way  ). Do you have any idea how popular this chick is. I bet Stevie's version of BD would sell another million copies just from these newly exposed youngsters wanteing to hear the original version of the album. And really most of all, I think the prospect of maybe hearing a cover of Kind of Woman (Who the hell knows what songs they'd pick as singles?) just as an example maybe being played all day and night on the radio, thrills me.

NO ONE can copy Stevie's album "Bella Donna" even if the voice sounds similar. Everybody is unique and if you're trying "to be" Stevie Nicks you're not unique anymore. That's my opinion.

Alright, I'll easily say that I am AGAINST this thing completely. Hope it isn't true. The only positive thing that I could see coming from it would be that Stevie gets more exposure, and that could prompt her to do some more stuff..
But I am against this. I do not like Miley.

I hope people don't kill the messenger. Hopefully iamnotafraid will share where this information came from. It seems like a bad business choice for Miley. Miley has a large kiddie fan base and would probably sell a lot of albums, but wouldn't Stevie make most of the profits, as the songs would be hers? I can't see anyone letting her do this (including her father)--except maybe Stevie! ;)

Story is complete bullsh*t. Lots of reasons why, one being that her fan base would have zero interest in an album of this sort, two being Jimmy Iovine doesn't produce anymore, three being that I don't believe that Billy Ray Cyrus is a Stevie fan, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are big Stevie/Mac fans and THEIR kids know all the words to the "Bella Donna" album. Faith has said that her daughter loves singing along to "After The Glitter Fades". Tim and Faith ended their fist Soul 2 Soul tour with a duet of "Go You Own Way".
And the last reason why the story is complete false is when you do a search for it at Rolling Stone, nothing comes up.

I don't know what a hanna montana is, but this idea is ok with me as long as they spell "Bella Donna" as two words.

I care not for love nor money..nor this foolish idea - whether it is true or not.
I doubt Miley Montana Hanna Citrus can even begin to grasp the essence of the album "Bella Donna" .. I doubt she can even understand the lyrics.. And I'm sorry, but even the best of sound-alikes don't cut it for me - They can't what Stevie does in her original music.
Maybe when the girl decides on one name..one identity.. she'll have more positive attention from me.

You know, this whole mention of Bella Donna brings to light, the fact that she should have done something like a trilogy of songs for Soundstage showcasing Bella Donna. It was her first album. Henley should have been there and she should have done Outside the Rain, After the Glitter fades or Kind of Woman. Still of the Night was cool but it would have been cool is she did a trilogy like on the Enchanted tour and did After the Glitter Fades, followed by Kind of Woman and then Still of the Night with that awesome shawl twirl at the end. That would have been toooooooo cool. Can I please be a consultant for the Nicks team?

It never stops amazing me how upset people get when certain artists cover Stevie, and yet jump to her defense when she covers a song and fans of that artist trash her. A cover song can only help an artist. Like others have said, it provides the potential for new fans, but at the very least, the original artist gets royalties for the song(s) being used. So, don't shoot yourself in the face. Next time you hear about a legitimate Stevie cover, pour yourself a drink and give a toast to her financial success.

I don't believe this for a sec, but I do remember that when Stevie came to the old Star Lake Amphitheater with the TISL tour, Billy was just down the road at the Pepsi Roadhouse and left right after his show there to come up and go backstage to see Stevie. There was a story about it. So, he 'is' a fan.

Creative writing if you could call it that.
1. No Rolling Stone interview.
2. No Apple Computer program V.D.C.A.
3. Jimmy Iovine doesn't produce anymore (as far as I know).
Just before I wrote this I'd read on Yahoo news that Miley had the number 1 CD
this week. So that started the ball rolling. And one of my friends who has children
that like Hannah told me that he thought she sounded a little like Stevie. I hope a

:( geesh.
All I meant was that Miley's definitely not comparable to Stevie, and it would be very odd and not pleasant to hear her do a cover. I'm sorry that I don't like hearing teeny-boppers who think they're all that make a joke of Stevie's songs. Like Lindsay Lohan's Edge of Seventeen.

Boy, this could change up the "set list"!

Omg. I hope this is all a joke.
Anyways.
The Pros:
#1. This would be a good opportunity to expose younger kids to Stevie's music.
#2. Stevie could make a guest appearance on the tour.
The Cons:
#1. Cyrus doesn't sound a thing like Stevie!!!
#2. I bet there will be a lot of negative reviews just because Bella Donna is such a classic and it can't be matched.

I'm so sure Jimmy Iovine would need to hear a stupid voice camparison thing to know if anyone sounds like Stevie. He knows as well as Lindsey "I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you. You'll never get away from the woman who loved you."

I hope people don't kill the messenger. Hopefully iamnotafraid will share where this information came from. It seems like a bad business choice for Miley. Miley has a large kiddie fan base and would probably sell a lot of albums.
My source is greymatter (not the TV show). Much of this story has now been confirmed (read between the lines as Stevie would say). Someone of importance has just got off the line with Mr. Iovine's secretary (late Friday), and they are trying to stop the rumor mill so to speak. They didn't want this story to break. There is a little misinformation out there. Some in "high places" leaked the story that Miley would record a remake of "Bella Donna". When all the while the real story was that Miley would take Christine's place in Fleetwood Mac. Just look at how the original story lines up time wise with Fl. Mac's plans to record an album and tour. Doe's anyone think that happened just by happenstance?
And now that Hannah Montana is waning, it make perfect business sense for both parties involved. There's just too much money involved for any of the artist to say no. Stevie was onboard from the beginning. Lindsey was the one that held out the longest (artist integrity, you know). But in the end, everyone had their price.

RockALittle, sometimes the truth has to be told. This story has a life of it's own now. The Sheryl Crow story about joining Fleetwood Mac was just a ruse. Just some more disinformation to cover up the real story. Which of course as we can see now is that Miley will be replacing Christine on the upcoming Mac tour. I would like to give you all more details but I've already been warned that if I give away too much information I'll be cut off from my sources. But as of tonight I can say that I was delivered a rough take recording of Miley performing Songbird (vocals and piano), and it was amazing. While I'm still torn on the idea of Ms. Cyrus joining Fl. Mac. It will make financial sense if they can pull it off. But early today there was news (good or bad, you decide) that Ms. Cyrus record label, Hollywood Records was demanding a higher percent of the profits than originally agreed to by Reprise/Warner. Citing that it will cut into their profits on Cryrus' album "BREAKOUT". Reprise reportedly isn't budging on the original agreement. I didn't hear a dollar amount, but according to my sources it sounds substantial.
So after all this, the Miley "remake" of Bella Donna (ruse) and then the confirmation of Miley joining Fleetwood Mac (to replace Christine) by some of the actual members. Not just to tour, but to actually record a new FM album.........all thrown away by some record companies greed!
However you feel about the Cyrus/Mac tour and subsequent album, it just hard to imagine after all this time that $$$ could end this tour before it starts. Then again we are talking about Fleetwood Mac.
I'm sure there will be more news breaking on this story. If this Cyrus/Mac thing doesn't happen you can bet that they will do their best to cover this whole thing up.
One last bit of information about this tour. And it has nothing to do with Miley (I think?). Before FM decided on the name "UNLEASHED", they actually considered calling the tour "McLovin"! What a band.

Cyrus/Mac Tour info:
So Stockpickr.com has rated the "Cyrus Stock Index" down 5.6% as of January '09. With the continued bickering between Warner/Reprise and Hollywood Records over the once agreed upon contract for Ms. Cyrus to record (and tour) with FL. Mac, the stock index could continue to fall. Even after appearing on Forbes Celebrity 100 List with estimated earnings of $25 million for the year ended June 2008. The "UNLEASHED" Tour was going to be one of the biggest tours of the year with both Cyrus and the members of Fleetwood Mac participating. The actual name of the tour "Unleashed" was a comment on Cyrus' breaking away from the "child star" role she has played, and becoming a legitimate singer/songwriter. As reported earlier, the original name of the tour was supposed to be "McLovin".
After Billy Ray Cyrus received a special invitation to attend Stevie Nicks' concert in Burgettstown, PA in 2001 (someone with Nicks' camp extended the special invite to him) to which he accepted. He made his way over to the Post Gazette Pavilion and was quoted as saying "I was blown away by the incredible show she (Stevie) put on. I'd recommend it to anyone. She's definitely making the best music of her life. And I've been a fan for a long time". So before hopping his tour bus out to his next show, Cyrus got to spend some time with Stevie and Sheryl (Crow) backstage. He described the meeting as one of the "moments" in his career. And he appreciated the hospitality they and their crew extended to him.
Of course at the time he never would have dreamed that his daughter would have the chance to tour with Fleetwood Mac. After laughing about "why couldn't it be me instead of Miley?", he said he couldn't imagine a better opportunity for Miley than to tour with the Mac. Although when pressed he wouldn't comment on the "record companies" or specifically about Miley replacing Christine McVie.

Well, I guess it's time to bring this silliness to an end.
I have to laugh, it's the only way I keep sane. I do hope
that many of you were able to laugh with me.
To all of you going to see the real Fleetwood Mac tour,
please enjoy it. It's a very special experience, I know
because I've been blessed to see them a few times.

Someone asked me the other day, "What is the most ridiculous thing that you have ever heard?" I said, "Well, I actually read the most ridiculous thing: Hanna Montana joining FM and redoing BellaDonna..." It was a heart attack for a lot of people, and I have to admit, my blood boiled a little before I realized it was a joke.

I am sorry. I cannot pretend. This is a sick and disgusting thing I have just read. I know Stevie is so great to so many, but you cannot be Hannah Montana and re-record BellaDonna. That is unacceptable.
I admit to being a Stevie snob, I don't like it when others re-do her songs, it makes me cringe. Courtney Love did a horrible job, Smashing Pumpkins was okay, but because I felt like they took "Landslide" and made it their own thing, therefore, there is no comparing of "Landslide"s with Stevie's. But it's like....just stop Miley, before you do something really bad, just stop. I hate when new artists remake things because then you have 80,000 little girls singing these songs, thinking that Miley wrote them because they don't take the time to find out. Thats what happened when Destiny's Child took the Edge riff for Bootylicious, I like that song, but millions of people think "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks is a rip off of Destiny's Child.
haha--I am SO off my soap box now. Like, I am not being mean. I realize the good and bad that could come from Miley doing this. I wouldn't even mind listening to it if it happened, but it isn't something that I really want to think about. I love Stevie, I want her to he shared by the world, but not through Miley. I can't think of anyone thats popular right now that could really do BellaDonna justice.
Forgive me. Don't hate me. This is a democracy. I love you all.

Brysondt, it turned out that Miley aka Hannah Montana did put down vocals
for some of the songs from Bella Donna. I'll send a CD to the address you gave
me of some of the "rough mixes" that were obviously never finished. If you listen
closely you can hear Mick saying "Bravo" at the end of one of the songs. It's been
awhile since I listened to the tracks. She even did a few Christine numbers (maybe
that's the one you can hear Mick comment on).
In the end, I shut this thread down because I was warned by a couple of insiders
at Warner Bros' that they were afraid if this got out, and if it turned out that all parties
involved couldn't agree to financial terms, that it would actually hurt Fleetwood
Mac's tickets sales. And we all have to admit, like her or not, with Miley all venues
would have sold out.
In the end, as it turned out Miley was supposed to replace Christine. And I have it
from people in the know that everyone in the group was onboard. The last hold-
out was Lindsey, something about artisitic integrity. But like I said in one of the
other post, everyone has their price.
As a peace offering, Stevie (and possibly the rest of the group) was offered cameo
roles in the Hannah Montana movie. I've even seen still shots of someone who
looks very much like Ms. Nicks. Billy Ray Cyrus was thrilled to have Stevie on set.
Maybe it will be included in the DVD extras (fingers crossed).
I do have to apologize for acting like parts of this story wasn't true. Too many
people were investigating this story. And you don't want to get WB and the Mac's
management coming after you. So now you know why I had to act like this whole
thing was made up.
Bryson, let me know what you think of the Cyrus/Nicks CD.
But please do not share it with anyone. When you're through
listening, you can just trash it or send it back to me.
I really wish I could give more details.

I actually really like the Chicks version of Landslide. I think it has way more character than the very starkly plain original version from the white album. However, I get just as upset with people thinking that it was the Chicks song first.
Oh, and in case people can't tell... this whole Hannah Montana thing isn't going to happen. Half the posts on here about the "validity" of the story are just a big joke trying to upset people. Ms Cyrus might record a Bella Donna track on an upcoming album of hers, but the odds of her totally re-recording the entire album and releasing it are just nil.

well, at least the Dixie Chicks released it as a single (their last single, actually) BEFORE the infamous Iraq comments, because it did very well (making Stevie lots of money). ...hannah montana...
I'm getting sick! how can somebody have the guts to compare themselves to such artists as nicks or joplin?
I really don't want to start anymore rumors here, but wasn't it Mr. Buckingham
himself who said, when responding to these "Miley" to record....."Miley" to join...,
questions from reporters at CNN (or was it FOX?), that Miley is more like "Stevie"
now than Stevie is.
As you can imagine this part of the story was quickly swept under the rug. Can
imagine how Stevie reacted to this!? The Unleashed Tour came very close to being
cancelled. But of course Lindsey backtracked. He claimed he wasn't comparing the
two's performances. More so, that Miley was now going through what Stevie had
herself went through in the mid-70's to early 80's. Lindey also said that Stevie
was lucky to have him look out for her, much the way Billy Ray looks out for Miley.
My only guess would be, that he was implying that Stevie's music would have been
the same cotton candy the Miss Cyrus puts out, if it weren't for him. Again, that's
just my guess.
Most of the negativity seems to be spilling out now from the Cyrus camp. Although
they have still been very tight lipped about the "Mac" situation. When the story
broke that Miley was going to do the Bella Donna album, Cyrus' website and record
label website almost crashed due to all the traffic in the first few days of this news.
And then when she actually met with the band, and everyone agreed it would be
a good idea for her to replace Christine (as mentioned in previous post Lindsey
was the last to agree). Everyone saw dollar signs. And everyone agreed it would
benefit both parties. Cyrus getting go on a real tour, and learn from seasoned vets.
With possibly some of Stevie and Lindsey's songwriting skills rubbing off on her.
And of course the Mac counted on 100% sellouts at all the venues.
So it was Miley responding to Lindsey's original comments that "she was more
like "Stevie" than Stevie is now, said in response "it would have been nice to tour
with them if everything would have worked out. But I think it would have been
hard for Stevie to be on stage with me. We are two different acts, mine being very
high energy and Stevie's being well...what can you say about someone that over
60? For her age, she still does a decent job up there".
So far I have not read a response from Stevie on any of the Mac on Miley's latest
comments. Hard feelings run deep.

Some didn't believe there was a nugget of truth to this, but there is an actual nugget.
This from Entertainment Weekly's website.
Friday's Daily Variety reported that Cyrus' June 2009 departure from United Talent Agency to CCA effectively buried a few projects that were in active development, including a potentially "ground-breaking, multi-format music franchise" that would showcase Cyrus' "genre-defying appeal" and "prodigious musical abilities" by having the young singer interpret classic albums recorded by iconic women musicians, including Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" and Stevie Nicks' "Bella Donna."
The Turner and Nicks' albums were part of the project's blueprint, but more than a dozen candidates were discussed, including signature works from Carole King, Pat Benatar, Dusty Springfield, Heart, and Olivia Newton-John. Four albums total would be recorded in one monolithic, three-month session and then released one per-season over the course of a year (possibly as a Wal-Mart exclusive).
UTA reports it did approach management for Turner and Fleetwood Mac about possible one-shot, double-bill "Concert Events" pairing Cyrus with each legend. The concerts would feature one 45-minute set per act, followed by one 30-minute, collaborative set. Project buzz resulted in premature rumors that Cyrus might join Fleetwood Mac as a replacement for its retired singer, Christine McVie.
Even though CCA and Cyrus decided to concentrate on her film career - she's currently filming her first adult role in "The Last Song" based on the Nicholas Sparks novel - Cyrus' lost all claim to the album project since UTA developed the concept independently of Cyrus and reportedly the agency is attempting to cast another musically-adept tween star. UTA declined comment, but there's a supposed short list of back-ups, including Taylor Swift and Rihanna.

I won't go into Miley's singing voice, which on a good day I don't care for that much. Then again, I'll compare her to Stevie Nicks, who I liked in the context of Fleetwood Mac. Given the right songs, I might like Miley's stuff someday.
