Well....Part one has started here in Pittsburgh.
Stevie looks soooo gorgeous. Stand Back was pretty good. Enchanted is lackluster...not liking it.

I am watching Stevie right now in Pittsburgh and she looks amazing. Her hair and makeup and everything looks perfect. I think she looks younger than when I saw her last in concert a couple years ago. Whatever she is doing its working for her. Sara is on now and its sooo very good!!

Sara was pretty good. I miss the red cacoon. I miss Lindsey. She seemed to get into it towards the end....with all the spinning and hand gestures.
Fall From Grace....not my favorite live. If she doesn't try the note, I will cry.

I'm sitting here watching Stevie in HD and I have to say I am loving this. It's reminding me of some times long ago when I saw her. I mean she looks absolutely amazing, she is moving around and she sounds incredibly good. I've seen her many times and have been blessed to be front row a few of those times and I'm getting that feeling again. Thank you Stevie---for bringing those feelings back. And, I loved her version of Crash-first time I've seen it beside youtube videos.

I liked what they did with 'In the Still of the Night' or 'How Still My Love' or whatever it's called now. It was a much sexier song done that way.
Umm, everything up to 'Fall From Grace' was kind of flat for me though. More Stevie singing the songs than really getting into them. I'll put that down to repetition over the years. I guess I'm used to seeing Stevie sort of drifting off somewhere in her own thoughts when she's singing a song. That's kind of not there.
But she did look great. Mebbe a little heavy on the makeup in close-ups as far as seeing foundation. But otherwise she looked good. Fab.
This was on the HD channel in Pittsburgh at 10. Lucky I checked. It's supposed to be on the SD channel July 21 at one am too.

("How Still My Love") but "I Need to Know" needs to go....
She needs to rock it up more as Poison recently did with this Tom Petty track on their "Poison'd" compilation disc.

Excellent !!! :blob2::blob1:
I think what I am noticing and other people too I think is that we are used to seeing Stevie perform more "in the moment" of the song. With this being taped and I am sure some songs were done a couple of times? that maybe a little bit of the performance seems too polished, but have to expect that type of thing in a professionally shot and edited DVD.
I am just so happy that we got a DVD to play again and again in high quality.

I thought this was a great performance! As far as live tapings go, I think this is the most "into her performance" that I've seen since the HBO Bella Donna special. Lots of hand gestures and dancing, some spinning, and she looks phenomenal! Very thin! I really like her cover of "Rock 'N Roll;" she gets really into it. It would be fun if they included the Bob Segar cover she just did - "Face the Promise." She really rocked out during that. I think it's nice to see her do some different songs; whatever will keep her coming back again and again! :) Can't wait until next week for part 2!!!

on the 5.1 monitors I have, there was an obvious double of Stevie's vocals on "Crash"...Sounded alright regardless.
I wonder if OETA is only showing a shorten version (It was listed as Part 1 of 2 on the schedule), because "Rock N Roll" is now on immediately after "Crash".

She needs to rock a couple of songs up. Some of this reminded me of the 'Tango In The Night' video where she says, "Oooooh, ye-ahhh." a lot in songs. Kind of lifeless. "I'm here. I'm singing THIS song again. Oooooh, ye-ahhhh." Blah.
I did like 'Crash' a lot. She 'can' rock it out when she wants and I want her to do that more! :)

The live show we saw was awesome. I want my mom to tell me later which one she thinks is better. And then I'll tell you all what she said...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well we watched it together. When I got to her house she was watching CBS, some show with Marg Helgenberger and I said it should be on now so switch the channel. She said it's on. I said it's on PBS not CBS and she said it's the right channel. I said no, can't you see the CBS symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So she hit channel 2 on the remote and nothing happened. I said you have to hit 02 to get channel 2.
She got it right and we missed maybe the first 30 seconds. Stand Back, Stand Back. The tv in front of us along with a large mirror where I could watch the tv and her facial expressions at the same time. She looked bored silly thru the whole thing but when I asked her if she was bored she said no. She had a hard time understanding the words. Here's a good one for you. At the end of SARA when she sings, "all I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming" my mother said/asked, "was to know that you were a free man?"
I laughed and told her all us fans laugh at ourselves when we find out what she was really saying compared to what we thought she was saying.
She said the show was better in person. She commented that the show was edited cause of the different outfits, but they never showed Stevie leave the stage.
She said she could see Stevies' face better on tv than in person.
My only gripe would be that I didn't like the fact that the camera was all over the place. In every song the camera panned over everyone. After all it's Stevie Nicks not the SN Band. All the band members except Al Ortiz were shown constantly. Only one quick closeup of Al and then most of the time you'd hardly see him at all, like he wasn't even there.
I kept thinking I wish they'd show at least one song where it's all Stevie but that never happened.
The vocals were crisp and clear, a very good recording and ofcourse the lady looked beautiful.
The funniest part for me was when she said the director wanted to get the song SARA on tape before the world blows up!!!
Enjoy it everyone. Also there were no pledge breaks. They played it straight thru the full one hour, no interruptions.

Wasn't this supposed to be broadcast in HD? I watched a little bit of it tonight on KOPB's HD channel, and no HD.

It didn't air until 2 am where I am either, luckily I don't have to work in the morning so I stayed up to watch it. I love Stevie so much, but there were some songs that I felt weren't as energetic as I am used to seeing them. Though as was said earlier, it could have been because she may have had to perform them more than once. I loved the vocals on Sara. They definitely seemed stronger to me than when she performed it on the last FM tour. I also miss seeing her wrapped up in red and Lindsey playing - it adds to the drama of the song. How Still My Love was fantastic, until I saw it live for the first time it was always a song I never paid much attention to. I just can't get into her singing Crash. She does a great job with it, but I think I am just so used to hearing DMB sing it that something just seems off. I loved that she was attempting some of the high kicks - I remember at the Boston show last month she had to hang on to the drum or percussion set up to get her leg high, which I thought was so cute and funny. I'm glad she did Fall From Grace, I was sad that it wasn't in the setlist on the tour, I love seeing all the emotion when she sings it. Plus she looked incredible throughout the whole show, I can only hope I look that great when I'm 60! Overall I liked the broadcast and I cannot wait til I get paid next week so I can order the DVD!

I'll second that opinion. I'm definitely buying it. Is there a copy of Soundstage that will have everything on it? I know on the Soundstage website it lists the original show and then parts 1 and 2 that will be broadcast. However, "I Need To Know" was shown last night on part1???? So I'm a little confused here. I want to see "Beauty & The Beast" moreso than "Dreams", but am really wanting to get as much of the complete show as possible.
I watched a lot of part 1 over and over again. Really enjoyed the performance she and the band gave. I actually think they've gotten better since then, if that's possible. Maybe it's the setting of a live concert, but I'll never forget the show they did in Cincinnati about a month ago.

Well, Sure sounds like Stevie was singing with STEVIE as it blasted through my 5.1 system - WAS NOT one of the background singers either....Doubt it was a guide vocal (Stevie SEEMS more together mentally than Ozzy & his guide vocal tracks in concert) but it was very obvious to my ears
It was a good performance, Great - Dont think so...

Tells ya what kind of talent is here in Oklahoma doesnt it, when she cannot win ANY local talent contest but she enters some TURD FLOATING competition on the Boob Tube and wins it...
All the people I knew in Checotah were similar to those of us from Muskogee - Party-heads who listened to ANYTHING minus country! Didnt want ANYTHING to do with a "country lifestyle" (aka Cow tipping, Pickup driving, Sister/Cousin marrying, Tobacco chewing. Homo-phobic, Bush loving, NASCAR loving nitwits!!!) nor be associated with it.
I cannot wait until her career dies, she becomes a washed-up hack drug-head four-time married loser, moves back in with her parents in Checotah, gets a job at the local Sonic as a car-hop so I can drive to Checotah and place an order that she delivers and so I can yell at her "I ordered a Cherry Vanilla Dr.Pepper, not a slush you BLITHERING idiot...And you didnt deliver me my fries either" and send her crying back inside!!! I watched about four songs from Soundstage on YouTube. I hope I can proffer my thoughts here without incurring personal insult in return. After all, the very thread title asks for our reactions.
It's flashy & modern-looking (although it lacks the elegance & variety of the Dance). I saw only four numbers, but I wonder whether that strobe effect on the back screens begins to pall. The production is shot to look like television footage from a contemporary awards show on VH1 or wherever they broadcast awards shows these days. As far as the visual & iconic impression Stevie makes, it's certainly a vast improvement over those Boris Karloff years in 1999-2003. In her stance & jutting attitude, she's a lot more charismatic than she was five or six years ago. But the singing is still nothing but a sadly disintegrated once-great vocalist who used to be able -- not thanks to drugs but to youth & narcissism -- to soar & dive & pirouette vocally. I'm beginning to understand why her band always plays so stone-solid, without dropbacks or dropoffs: it's a compensatory tactic. (Waddy Wachtel really is the best possible guitar complement for Stevie because he fills in every space & often plays right over her.) As I listen to her sing these past several years, my expectations of hearing a pitch in the higher end -- say, above G4 -- are pretty constantly dashed, & this mental effect creates in me a sort of aesthetic frustration, like listening to an old standard & then not hearing a stretch of bars you should be hearing midway through. When she does hit pitch in the higher reaches, it's an unpleasant, trumpety sound to my ears. As for the guys in the band & their "sound," I don't think any of it is particularly memorable or expressive of idiosyncratic personality. When I watch them or listen to them, the only thing that occurs to me is that they're ... on the payroll.

^^^^^^
I agree with you that vocally she is hard to take at times and in comparison of the SA (heard here)

Having said that, I think judged on their own, the vocals in the new Soundstage production are not bad and can be great at times, like the thrill of blinding light into a dark room coming for a second of two out of a mostly always closed window. Though I readily agree she seemingly shrieks some of the higher notes to be pitch on and that to me is hard to watch.
In the end, I think it is great she is still around and when she puts a notion to it, she can give a full on vocal and performance even though she can never IMO match the same that she gave in her youth. In a way, it is unfair to expect it or make the comparison as none or at least very few can maintain the accuracy of youth
I do, however, like the Soundstage production, think she gives a good performance, and am happy to have it.

Yeah. I'll tell you what though, when they were showing previews for PT. 2 and she was doing Rhiannon, she had the top hat on I think, and she looked JUST like a picture that I have seen from her in the 70's. I was like Holy Cow, she looks so GOOD:blob2: Anyone else catch that?
I totally agree!!! I can't wait for Rhiannon! She really looks fantastic.
I would also LOVE to have her skin! She has the most beautiful skin I have ever seen; it's like porcelain. I was amazed the last few times when I got to shake her hand, and you can really see it in this Soundstage too I think.
Also, something to note about her is how unique her voice is. It certainly may not be what is used to be, but you never hear anyone else who sounds like her. So many singers these days sound so similar; Stevie is so special and unique and I love that about her.
Okay - when she sings "ask me and I'll be theeeeerrrreeeee" in that clip, she looks like its 1977 again with her stance, expression, and gesture. WOW!
And, I love the claws out in the claws line in crash.
Thanks for posting these.
You're welcome Jason. I can't stop watching this Soundstage footage. I'm loving everything about it. From the set, to the band, and Stevie's fired-up and inspired performance. :blob1:

It is almost as if the Godess Earth Mother personage I saw in the Storytellers set (which I LOVED) -- has been replaced (grown into) this fiesty ricker with a tude. What a treat to have both!
It still has not aired here. However, I am going to Louisiana next week and it is going to air there. I am also buying the DVD.

I can agree with that. I think when she goes for the real high notes, she just can't do it anymore, without having to scream or shriek to get there. But it's really not that annoying to me. Other than that I think her voice sounds awesome. And I agree with everything else you stated in your post.

On Sara - when she hits the higher notes, it might suit her better to sing it like she sang this, which I love:

In the end though, I think the SS Sara is great and I can't wait to hear the "clean" HD version.
Also, she looks like something out of a dream.
I hope Ms. Vicky sees this and sees that La Nicks is still fairly spritely on stage

Spot on! By Jove I think you got it. :)

for the backdrop for EO17. Perhaps even getting them there to perform it behind her (what a missed opportunity on the 111 or so foot CP stage) Of course, she would have to sing at this pace
I may have left the football team and joined the Dance Squad if my HS had done this

Exactly. She sounds amazing here. She could easily perform "Sara" this way and it still be effective. I think she was probably really nervous though, causing her voice to climb? On Soundstage you can tell she is really pushing it. Now, how do I get my head unstuck from watching sideways?!
Also, she looks like something out of a dream.
She's stunningly beautiful in this film. It's so cool to see her give a clear headed, drug free performance.

I just wanted to pop in for a minute and say a big thank you to those of you who are posting clips. Sadly, my PBS station is not quite down with the live shows. So, I will definitely have to wait until I can buy this before i will get to see it.
My opinion so far: she looks stunning. I don't know how much longer she can pull this off, but she really is very beautiful (duh) and sexy and fabulous. Her vocals are kind of not quite there for me (part of that could be the quality of the videos?) but it's like, screw it. I'm at the point where I have accepted she is not a young girl anymore (hello, it's about time) and either I'm going to love her for what she is (I do) or let it go.
One last thing though. The way she is acting in these performances (animated, interested, emotionally present) is not how she normally is, in MY experience, since the Enchanted tour. What I've seen so far in these clips are what I am always looking for when I go to see her live.

Part One
Good News: She looks incredible. Crash was awesome. She sounds better then she has in some time. Her voice bounces over the lyrics and there is a very playful exuberance in her phrasing, you can tell that she really likes this song.
HSML was also good and sexy and so was Rock n Roll.
Bad News: On all of her own songs up until HSML she sounds very uninspired, understandable she must be sick of singing these same songs now for 30 years.
Her voice sounds very thin and more nasaly and there really is no depth left to it.
She tries on Sara to muster up some energy but falls flat. She should take her own advice on Sara "it just doesn't work live". It did with FM during Tusk but she has never duplicated that energy and nuance.
Did I say she looks great!!!!!

My God, this is PHENOMENAL!
She has so much energy and really seems on top of her game.
The Stand Back kick was SO high. Sara was beautiful, as was How Still My Love. Crash was great - I love this song because she really looks like she loves it. She oozes sex appeal on this song and her eyes sparkle!
Fall from Grace was rockin', but it still isn't one of my favs. I had no idea this was "the meanest song" she had ever written - LOL - I thought Planets held that distinctive title. There was fire shooting from her eyes during this song, however, so that was pretty good.
I can do without "Rock and Roll". That kick at the beginning was hideous!
Can't wait for part #2!!

She has been saying FFG is the meanest song for awhile. I think she has referred to POTU as the angriest song. I suppose the difference belongs to her.

Just saw the show and I was surprised to find that that gal actually has a certain appeal!
It seems to me that when she walked out for Stand Back she emerged more slowly than she does at regular concerts. I like the the faster pace better, the purposeful stride. Actually, I want her to burst onto the stage, like she came through the wall in the I Can't Wait video. That's my dream.
The boots and tights certainly give her figure a more elongated look than the full skirts do. The flare at the hip, falling from the fitted top, gave her just a lovely waistline and very sleek look. When it came out, I had someone look at the FM Soundstage and they commented on her Reeboks and how dowdy they made the ensemble look. I sure wish they could see her now!
Had to guffaw when she said writing 3 songs every 2 years is just not enough for her! She used present tense.
Also, although she was talking about Bella Donna, she used the present tense in saying that "no one got broken up. "Everyone's all right." If I'd known she said this back then, that would be a clear indication to me that she was acknowledging then that she was still going to be doing something with FM. There was never any fear of her never touring again, unless someone drops dead.
I thought Sara was great. I also loved what she said about Joe complaining that FM only added it to the SYW setlist after their Soundstage had been filmed. That's a complaint that we had and it's fun to know that other people think just like we do.
Now, I thought her mod outfit was too contemporary for Sara. For that one, I want to see her draped in smoke and clouds, floating on the wind. But all you have to do is close your eyes to make that happen. Crazy, crazy . . . Can you speak a little louder. So beautiful.
So, I'm disappointed when she says that behind all the anger and meannness in Fall From Grace there's a tiny bit of love. I sure hope there's more than just a "tiny" bit. Indeed, if there weren't more, then the anger and meanness wouldn't exist.
So, she assures us that although she wants to, she is never gonna play How Still My Love for us on the piano. Yeah, applause. Here in Los Angeles we just sent a man to jail for life, for causing a train wreck. Stevie doesn't need to spark one. HSML is just a beautiful performance all the way through, but it gets really hot when she starts the "Me that's talking to you. . . " chant. Just sinfully good.
Goodness, I have to say that Crash sounds fantastic. I saw it in February and it got on my nerves. But this performance was delicious. A surprise.
As for Rock and Roll, I try to tell myself that since I don't have to look at that horrific BATB costume any longer, I don't have to spend the end of her shows in a coma. I've been liberated. But really, as long as Rock and Roll stays in the set, the tyranny continues. I try to take things day by day and remain strong, but I'm really afraid this cover is going to be my destruction.
I hate that the broadcast was broken up into 2 parts. I'm really in the mood for EO17 tonight, but I guess anticipation is a good thing.
When they promoted the DVD they said it had "bonus material not seen in this broadcast."
Look forward to next week.
Michele

Seriously, I have often said that in my life, when I have thought she was washed up/whatever -- she has always come back and thrilled me way beyond expectation. The SA tour, The Dance, The Gold Dust Tour, and this are notable examples. So, I never really count her out.

Actually, I've never thought she was washed up and this Soundstage didn't tell me anything new about her good or bad. I certainly can't say I was 'thrilled beyond my wildest expectations.' My opinion about her is pretty static. I just said she had a certain appeal in the same way I say, "Gee, I never realized it before, but Fleetwood Mac seems to have some sort of, um, I don't know chemistry or something. Not sure."
I forgot to say that I had to laugh at her "undoing the laces" of what seemed to be a petticoat in one sentence, while holding what seemed to be a cell phone to her ear the next. Somehow, those images just don't go together. A woman who wears laces that tie at the back like that, probably shouldn't be firing up her Nokia. Too bad Marcell Marceau wasn't around to mime for her.

She looked fanfreakintastic and I liked the song choices...mixed it up a bit...although I think there are going to be a lot of slow songs in the next set? I was flipping around last night (on TV, that is) & came across Soundstage on one of my PBS channels, so I watched it through to the end. Just extraordinary in every way -- except that band. I don't quite know what to make of them. They had it going on for some of the ballads, like HOW STILL, but they sunk things like SARA.
Stevie & one of her (four?) backup singers had a beauty & incandescence that transcended all time & quantum-leaped all space.

I loved it too. I was pleasantly surprised, actually. I have never really watched it through on youtube or anywhere else, because of the horrible reviews it got. Crash is one of my husband's favorite songs and I asked him to watch this SS version to get his opinion. He said he thought it was great.
Michele, I didn't catch the cell phone thing, but I found some humor in the undoing of the laces...just because. I'm not sure why.
Seriously though, how much longer can Stevie be sexy? At 60 she is stunning and whether it's makeup, lighting, camera angles, whatever- it's pretty difficult to pull that off for women even in their 50s.
I really need to order this. Perhaps I could put it on my baby registry on Amazon? :o I could say it's for the baby.

Enjoyed it quite a lot, and agree with many of the 'Crash' comments, i hadn't liked it live much in '07 but found the Soundstage version surprisingly nuanced, very well sung, and (dare i say) 'Tusk'-like in the production values, and a very high quality moment, darn optomist that i am, i thought it even sounded radio-ready and a chance for her to have the hit i've so long hoped for. Also, imo, she much improved her 'Rock n Roll' performance compared to the 'Crystal Visions' cd version, even tho she still didnt manage to hold the note sufficiently long enough on the last word ("time") and 'bend' that last note which it desperately cries for her to do. Yet i feel she has grown into the song nicely and prefer the longer reprise near the end, a repeated half chorus or so, it works.
Her FACE to me looked the most beautiful in perhaps ever- so strikingly pretty, and not in the usual surgical way of gals her age who look good, but just extremely rested, and the most flawless makeup since 'Mirage Tour' video- as my late cousin said when watching 'Mirage' with me, " she certainly turns herself out well when she wants to"-- her skin was amazing as many said.
Oh...sadly.. the clothes...poor Stevie. She adds so much, so VERY much, bulk and weight to herself in her lower stomach, thighs and hips, the dresses were the worst in terms of ruffles and ridges at her hips and thighs i'd seen in a long time. She just doesn't know.. She isn't nearly as heavy as she makes herself look.
OH, and last (minor) fauxpaus-- on two songs, the camera catches her slapping her thighs together to the rythym of the music (in the black pants)-- not a good look for anyone. Not too many years ago, Oprah had Tina Turner on and showed a clip of Tina dancing across the length of the stage slapping her thighs together, and Tina said, 'when i saw that clip i took it out of the show, it just doesnt look right' and Stevie, tho she didnt do it across the length of the entire stage, lol, it looked unfortunately 'trailer park' on her, and an astute editor would've cut it out of the finished shot.
LOVED the editing of the setlist, how refreshing that 'Dreams' did not show up first or second for the first time in 245 years, and liked 'r&r' in the middle, and think 'Rhiannon' will work nicely in the second hour next week- last bitch is that "Enchanted" needed to be done live, and often, back in 1983 and on the RAL tour, and unfortunately, it comes across to me now as 'Depends-Rock' and needs to go, too too dull and plodding....
But i liked the show from my sofa very much, much more so than from the floody front rows of Jones Beach in '07. Favorite moments: "Crash", much of "Sara'' and "Fall From Grace"- love FFG--- i wish she'd look at an old US Festival "How Still My Love''--- she just doesnt REMEMBER the best ending she did of it, ('hold-still, hold-still, baby-etc) and the lighting from the Street Angel where the stage goes black (for 'this is me talkin to you' in the middle) was also very effective, in '94. Little nuances of 'when did i nail this exactly right' can be hard to recall, but for me this Soundstage of 'How Still' pales BOTH to US Festival and Street Angel tours- too long, and without remembering the climaxing moments...

. . . . but they sunk things like SARA . . . .
I think in many ways the juxtaposition of her somewhat harsh vocal in Sara to the rather soft and lush (?) arrangement of the music and backing vocals did not work. Waddy played a harder, edgier guitar in the Bella Donna HBO concert version and it seemingly worked better than the SS version from this vantage point.
Note - - I liked Sara in the new version. I am just comparing and contrasting -- likely being too picky
To be fair -- I have seen only the posted videos -- the actual telecast and DVD likely will be a better sound.

She's doing the "mashed potato" -- I just do not see anything wrong with that. Rather, I think it is kind of cool for Angel as she wrote a rock and roll song and that is a rock and roll dance.
I am unsure in what song in the Soundstage she is doing it though.

I don't quite know what to make of them. They had it going on for some of the ballads, like HOW STILL, but they sunk things like SARA.

Sara would have sounded better if the accent of the song was more on the piano than the guitar. They ruined the opening bars of the song for me because of that.
I never liked the song Crash at any of the live shows I'd seen it performed at but for SS I must admit it was probably the best song they've shown us so far.

The band brought absolutely no personality or variation to it. If you strip the lead vocal & just listen to the backing track from start to finish, you hear how listless & bland & static it is. No dynamics. No evolution. No suspense. No quirkiness. I've heard karaoke tracks of SARA that were more interesting (for example, the SARA instrumental on "You Sing the Hits").
Suggestion to Soundstage: Keep the pianist on acoustic piano, put the drummer on brushes, keep the bassist, & put the guitarist on some sort of weird amp with a phaser. Ask the others to leave the stage for carpaccio, sandwiches & Evian. SARA doesn't really need a synthesizer on it -- I'd have thought I was stating the obvious here. Nor does it need a B3 or rhythm guitar, as Fleetwood Mac proved back when they were good.

I agree that the band was emotionally muted on Sara. It worked though - at least for me. To me, Sara is such a lush and intricate sound on Tusk, that few other than FM have been able to capture it on stage.
DO you think Waddy does that on purpose. I mean compare the SS version of his guitar to this version:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KmQ_1sXZJxI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KmQ_1sXZJxI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
or really even this version:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/guA52Uuupvc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/guA52Uuupvc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
as an aside - I love the harmonies display on this one (see 6:03-o4 ) -- the vocal, however, drives me batty.
Of Course, LB is the master, esp. from 6:09:

She makes the gesture as if she is calling someone, but if I know Stevie, she probably doesn't even own a cell phone. A phone yes, a cell phone, no. We're thinking modern times now. I don't remember her ever using the gesture before Soundstage, but she very well may have. Nonetheless I thought it was a cool effect.

I'm not sure about "You Tube" but it's one of the times that she sings "call me." You know she does that thing where you hold your thumb out and your pinkie finger and put it up to your ear like a phone receiver.

Aside from the fact that the phone wasn't in common usage, when they did become widespread, it certainly wasn't that type of phone. Actually, it really would have been funny if Stevie had done one of those retro hand crank gestures to dial up the operator and place her call.
If I think of the song visually, it does put me in mind of a bygone era, well historical era, yes. I would say just the phrase "sea of love" kind of takes you 50 years back. But it makes me think of a bygone Stevie era too. 1979 again. It has a strong sense of nostalgia to it with the heartbeat that never really dies. I would say this is more true of her Tusk songs (Angel, Storms too) than of the Rumours songs. The Tusk songs seem to have a mood of another time. Michele

I liked her voice on the new soundstage.. It's not the same voice she once had. But her voice has always changed.. however.. I think she has always done her absolute best with it, and I like how it sounds now. During the St. Louis show, I was extremely pleased. Some people just aren't gonna accept it.. but I mean.. what can you do? Stevie's not gonna transform her voice into what you once loved, and there are only so many demos and bootleg recordings from the old days. So, to those holding on to the past, your days might be limited.
I'm looking forward to this release.. She looked like she was having fun, and I really hope that "Sara" is released on the CD.

OK-
I just watched my broadcast off the DVR - AWESOME!! She seemed SO comfortable with herself, which isn't always the case when she's doing a TV thing. (It must of been those Ledgies that were there making her feel at home, right? :woohoo:) There were a lot of real fans there, from what I remember reading here before, correct? Anyway, that showed by the way she performed. I was downright proud of her while I watched this. :) She looked and sounded so great!! I especially loved Sara, HSML and Crash. I totally DID NOT expect to love Crash, as I'm not a big fan of Dave Matthews, but Stevie really had a fresh and interesting version of it. I loved it. And Sara - I've ALWAYS loved Sara, but it seemed the last time I saw her sing it (with FM) she seemd distracted and a bit "holding back". This time she just seemed to sing it as it should be, for the fans. Maybe when she sang it with FM she was distracted by Mick or Lindsey  I don't know. But I sure LOVED this version. In one word, Stevie seemed confident during the Soundstage performance. I can't wait to see part 2 next week. I hope there really will be a CD released as well as the DVD. That doesn't seem set in stone yet.
On a sidenote, my broadcast had some audio problems with it muting out for a few seconds here and there. Anyone else have that problem?

Well, we'd had a thread about Stevie and her air guitar and air piano (which she did on Soundstage last night) which incorporated her other gestures. Who can forget the lasso? So, now add this phone to the repertoire.
It's kind of funny, because as long as phones have been around, I think that gesture is relatively new, like 5-10 years old and I do associate it with the increasing ubiquity of the cell. Before, when people pantomined using the phone they would kind of put a fist to their ear, without poking out that pinkie. At least, that's what I see from observing tv, movies and stand up comedians:) Except for Bob Newhart, who actually used a real phone in his sketch -- and Lily Tomlin who's device was not unlike the current blue tooth.
Today I went to lunch at the Hotel Bel Air and saw Demi Moore and Bruce Willis (and I believe Ashton too, but I don't really know him on sight) having lunch with their daughter and a swarm of about 9 young girls. I assumed that the daughter was having a birthday party or something. Anyway, the Willis daughter (don't know whether it was the youngest or the middle daughter) had on a top hat, gloves and a red shawl. It made me wonder if she was a Stevie Nicks fan. Who else dresses in just that combo?

Well, then it's actually a good thing for you that the show was broken up into 2 parts. You get one extra hour of shut eye! Michele

I thought it was funny when she told the story of wanting to record/sing Crash and she was told that she couldn't because it wasn't a song for a girl, that it was a boy's song. Then she put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot. We all know that Stevie doesn't like to be told she can't do something. LOL. I really liked this version of it too, more so than when I saw her in April this year. I still can't believe how incredible her face looked on this show. She sure didn't look 60.

Yeah, I don't even know what the difference is between this version and the one I saw in February, but I think it rocks now. I'm not going to forgive her for doing a cover, because I like to attach meanings to Stevie's songs and I don't care to attach any to Dave's. So, I resent covers. But, this is now going up there with HSML and Sorcerer as to what makes me want to hit the "replay" button most.
There are so many different parts to savor, from the refrain to the childlike chant, "I'm the queen of the castle. You're the dirty rascal," to the "you're so dirty" part. I mean there are about 5 different little fun bits to anticipate.

I find the things she does to animate and illustrate a song -- when she doesn't have her tambo -- very interesting.
Clearly, she was trying not to fiddle with the strings on her mic for this performance, so she thought of different little things to do.
Over the years, she has had to cut down on the dancing, so the other fillers are always interesting to me. Some work and some don't.
Speaking of dancing, I was just thinking how powerful that old Angel clip posted in this thread is, because when she is standing at the mic with Lindsey she is making her body jump with hardly any effort at all. I mean it's not like she's moving her feet back and forth and you don't even see her leg bending. She just elevates up and down as if on a spring, fueled by pure willpower, almost.

My favorites were Crash and How Still My Love. Everyone was saying how bad her version of Crash was and it ended up being a great version.

I disliked this version "I Need To Know." Stevie does that song much better without the "help" of the back up. They slowed the tempo down too much. The Tom Petty DVD- well ALL of her other versions of "I Need To Know" are much better. That song aside, I think it was a great first half.

Loved the show, visuals were flawless, BUT the "sound reproduction" was horrible. I watched in Chicago on HD and it was awful.
It wasn't Stevie's voice, it was the sound. Some have speculated that it was not recorded direct, rather it was done through the PA for benefit of the audience, which would account for a crappy sound. Hope the DVD was/is better???

I didn't watch in HD, but everything sounded fairly good to me. The only thing I noticed was that there were a few times where the sound became somewhat muted. And they were minimal.

It's nice to see a few clips from the show to get a taste of it - especially for those that won't get the PBS showing, or haven't had the show air in their area yet, like me... AND CAN'T WAIT! But I'm not sure posting the whole show is benifical to anyone and whether it will undermine the success of the dvd when it goes on sale is probably something that could be debated, but essentially it's the same as posting something that's commercially available.
Oh wow those harmonies in NightBird are just breathtaking, they send a shiver down my spine. Thank you so much for posting all those clips really.
Is that NightBird version part of a DVD - I assume not? It's lovely.
I love all the Soundstage I have heard so far, she seems to have her energy back again - briliant.
Thanks again.

I agree with you that vocally she is hard to take at times and in comparison of the SA (heard here)

and The Dance (Silver Springs is good example) -- though The Dance vocals were not as good IMO as the SA vocals as far as post, say, WH vocals, which IMO could be great --

That version of Nightbird is from the television show Solid Gold -- note there is a rickin' version of Standback on that show as well.
Also, she performs both songs on Sat. Night Live.

The more I hear this, the more I like it. I get up early in the morning and play it both on my tv and the stereo system. I listen to it while in the bathroom, taking my shower. It's good to step away from the visual and just focus on the vocal/audio. She sounds fantastic! Given the proper promotion, this Soundstage could bode well for Stevie in a similar way the Dance did for FM. I really think it's on par with that show. And I think quite possibly the best is yet to come on part 2. I mean GDW, Rhiannon, and Edge!!!!! :woohoo:

But can you get the same exposure on PBS as they did on MTV?
I definitely think it makes Stevie look very modern and present day and will attract new fans, provided they get the chance to see it.

That's a good question. I definitely think people who watch Soundstage are more apt to be familiar with Stevie and buy the dvd than those watching MTV. I mean, can she really attract new listeners/fans from an audience who predominantly like rap and artists(I use that word loosely) like Britney Spears? So I think the sales pitch in this day and age would probably be better on a station like PBS as opposed to one like MTV for her. I really couldn't say how popular Soundstage is or what their ratings are. Apparently though she has already overwhelmed PBS with more orders than they could fill. So that's a good indication of her appeal to that audience and the ultimate success this could be.

Plus, The Dance likely is the last time MTV actually did something like that  I suppose VH-1 does Storytellers still, but I would not know as I do not get VH-1. I think PBS' Soundstage sort of took over the Uplugged MTV thing, which I think The Dance, though plugged, was part of.

Actually I think a lot of older rock/pop artists are venturing over to "country stations" like CMT to promote their music. The Eagles, Robert Plant with Alison Kraus, Bon Jovi, and Bob Seger to name a few. Weird huh?

I never though much of the song and usually wish she's drop it.
BUT, when I saw her perform the song live on the Gold Dust Tour (I think it was called that), I was actually blown away and loved it. This was a Chula Vista/San Diego show on that tour.

You know, I was thinking back to Fall From Grace. Someone mentioned something I think about not hitting that high note at the end. After hearing part 1 as a whole, there are several times when Stevie hits fairly comparable notes in other songs (If Anyone Falls), so it just makes me think that she could perhaps do it if she tried.

She can definitely hit them. It's just like an ice skater. You may do your triple double axel (or whatever) 20 times in training, so you know you're physically capable of it. You succeed 85% of the time. But there's that pesky 15% when you don't make it. You just don't want to try and fail during a performance, so you don't do it, but you could.

the 2nd part was pretty good - I didn't care for The One
and you can all tell at the end of the show her voice was getting very raspy - kind of ruined EO17 imo -
I don't know if this happened to everyone else - but my PBS station that was airing the show - the audio kept going in and out for like 2-3 second intervals it was SO annoying - it didn't cut during the good parts at least...
I wonder if it was to thwart people from putting it on YouTube or something...hopefully someone has better version than what I watched.
