I don't know. I'm a new kid on the block.

My impression is :

They (La Nicks & Mr. B) don't seem to talk to one another. Instead they talk to the press about one another.

We eavesdrop through the press.

The "agreement" was that Stevie would record with FM as long as Lindsey is not the primary producer.

Didnt read the "article" but I like the idea of another producer. I think it will lead to a more collaborative effort from the band.

It wasn't an article - it was a blog. Nothing is confirmed.

I reckon it's just cause Stevie doesn't want Lindsey stealing her thunder, however, come the 2009 tour, she'll have nowhere to hide:thumbsup:

I think she should haul out in a red cape during the solo in, say, GYOW and dance her ass off, twirling from one end of the stage to the other.

Let's see whose thunder is stolen then :wavey:

What she does instead is leave the stage and let him have his moments, which he deserves.

As for LB producing her, I think he, though brilliant in other ways, mostly has lost the touch. I did not like what he did for her on SYW for the most part, save, perhaps, for GB. She, on the other hand greatly enhanced his songs, like the vocal in Miranda, which is just way cool. Many say she ruined Peacekeeper. I agree the solo version is 10 times better than the SYW one, but I cannot say for sure La Nicks is the one who changed the key, etc. But, if that is so, then, yes, she ruined it.

What she does instead is leave the stage and let him have his moments, which he deserves. It's so gracious of her to "let him have his moments"!

As for LB producing her, I think he, though brilliant in other ways, mostly has lost the touch. You're just repeating my views from a long time ago. I said he lost his ear a long time ago.

I did not like what he did for her on SYW for the most part, save, perhaps, for GB.That was bad. Even the mixing on her voice was bad -- it was careless. The gain went up & down, & there was a strange electronic hiss all the way through it. Just awful. The engineering was as botched on that as it was on "Doing the Best I Can."

She, on the other hand greatly enhanced his songs, like the vocal in Miranda, which is just way cool. You must be kidding, but I know deep down you aren't. Stevie's vocals on all those older tracks were both completely unnecessary & irritating.

Many say she ruined Peacekeeper. They all ruined "Peacekeeper," especially when they played it live.

Ok, I respect that you may not care for Lindsey's production skills lately. I can see your point with that. Not your thing, totally understand. However, I have to strongly disagree about this "greatly enhanced" part. I have played that album (or parts of it) to gawdknowshowmany of my friends, and each time I play it they make sure and tell me how much they HATE, HATE, HATE the woman singing with LB on his songs and why didn't he just leave her off.

I personally like her there, but then I loved the way those LB songs sounded without Stevie on them. So as far as "greatly enhanced" I can't really see your point...his songs sound great with or without her.

I think her vocal on Miranda completely changes that song for the better. It gives it a more complex vocal dynamic. Also, on Say Goodbye, she is almost "love gone bad but I want the love back" on a stick. I also think she added on Red Rover, though LB apparently manipulated his voice so he sounds like her at points. I also LOVED this song live.

Peacekeeper is the only song I think she sounds deadful on. The solo version is much better.

In the end, I think they work better live these days. But, who knows -- they certainly have surprised many before.

It was horrifying live. He cared little for his pitch and she looked like she wanted to watch her socks dry instead

I did, however, love her vocals on Miranda and Red Rover. I thought they made his already good songs more complex.

But, to each their own.

Also, are you calling La Nicks a wiggler

That production aspect aside, I thought he broke down the basic structure of two chord demo and produced a very whistful sound. And, he realized her voice could not reach the value of the one in the demo so he made it like a lullaby. I am sure she had huge imput as well in that though.

I think it is. I think you think that is snotty of her. I think she learned a long time ago that she could steal focus without even really trying and it pissed off the other members. So, I think she learned that was not a nice thing to do and adjusted her antics accordingly. Anyone in a band knows everyone has to kind of do that to a degree and the one who stands out the most must make a conscious effort to tone it down at an inappropriate part. How can that be a bad thing?

Below is the text from a post of mine from a month or so ago.

Lindsey to me has always been a master craftsman of songs. In his recent work I personally hear a loss of that wonderful songcraft he has such a gift for. To me it is a combination of things. Guitar playing that was too out front compared to what the song called for. (Songs on Say You Will) A degradation of his vocals that have left some songs whispered instead of sung. (Much of UTS) Use of dated vocal processing effects particulary in the choruses of songs. Engineering choices that leave songs feeling sterile and muted. Finally the songs themselves. While no doubt Lindsey has improved as a lyricist, I hear a lack of melody and a definite lack of hooks more often than not in his more recent song output.

I am not convinced Lindsey has lost this gift and I think an outside co-producer to work with Lindsey and the band may be able to harness and redirect some of Lindsey's creative ideas.

That production aspect aside, I thought he broke down the basic structure of two chord demo and produced a very whistful sound. It was a three-chord demo, & it's still a three-chord track on the album. But chord complexity never had anything to do with fleetwood mac, anyway. They've always been essentially a I-IV-V band, even back in the blues days. Most pop & rock bands are. (Incidentally, "Goodbye Baby" is a I-IV-V.)

Then I misspoke. But, the sound of the final product is wildly different and IMO better than the staccato (staccati ? ) demo.

Oh please. Stevie would never "dance her ass off, twirling from one end of the stage to the other." That would require her to actually move, something she hasn't done much of in years. Anyway, if she tried she'd probably trip over her damn orthopedic shoes and fall on her ass. At which point I'd laugh off mine.

If the story is true, then to me it smacks of Stevie trying to wield power in the band, something she probably feels she lacks when Lindsey is in charge of production. It's like a child saying "We play the way I want to play or I'm taking my toys and going home." Grow up, Stevie.

She doesn't leave the stage during GYOW. On the songs where she does leave the stage, like ISA, I'm sure it's less so Lindsey can have the spotlight than so she can get a rest. She does lower her profile during GYOW, just like he deliberately lowers his during Rhiannnon and Stand Back, so that she can have her spotlight. He even lost his guitar riff on Rhiannon, so as to intrude on her song even less.

Furthermore, I believe they were especially deferential to each other during Rhiannon and GYOW this last tour because of the many years they spent upstaging each other during the respective signature songs.

I think they are very respectful of each other, which is a good thing.

That, of course, translates to some into La Nicks being a power hungry, fake, manipulative, tired, old cu*t and LB being a saint

Slowed down a bit? When I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert 5 years ago, the most movement she gave was to turn her back to the audience. I've watched clips of more recent performances and in those she was even less active than what I saw in person. I think it's a gross understatement to say that she's only slowed down a bit.

I do have to agree with you though about her performances on the SYW tour...she was very blah and stagnant, but i think that was because she was unhappy with that tour and album altogether. As i stated above, on her CV tour she was revitalized and enchanting on stage.

Well I'm happy for you that you saw that side of her, but in clips like her very recent performance of Bob Seger's "Face the Promise," all she appears to do is stand still at the microphone. I doubt very much that on the upcoming tour we'll see her twirling across the stage as in Strand's little fantasy.

Yea - me too. I loved the dramatic outfits (I believe you correctly labeled the Wild Heart ones like Turandot (speaking of hyperbole :wavey: )) -- but, I still like her shows. I wish she'd sing her won obscure stuff instead of these covers, but I realized long ago that the world just won't work the way I want it to  So, I am still into her for the most part. That, though is fading without new stuff. I mean I have been a fan since 1975ish

In a way and I know this is going to draw the ire of the femi-nazi's -- La Nicks at 60+ cannot ever be that lithe young hottie from 1973 - 83. Such is Life I guess.

It makes me a little sad that many of these Lindsey threads inevitably become "Stevie Nicks discussions." I like Stevie enough...well, actually, to be honest I liked her a little more at one point but the more I read about her attitude and interview comments the less I respect her. It's not that I want her to grovel on the floor before Lindsey. She doesn't even have to like him. But it would be nice if she would stop dragging his name through the dirt and bringing up all kinds of mean and horrible things he did to her, like, 30 years ago. It's sort of annoying. Not that he's an angel, but he's kept his mouth shut so far.

I concur. It's her thing, I guess. It seems like when things were going well, it was all her (i.e. it was 'her' decision to join the band)...and when they were bad, it was Lindsey and his production.

I'm sure every time she gets interviewed, they ask her about their relationship in the 70s and how it fell apart. Well, everyone knows about it now. No need to keep dragging his name in mud. 'No Comment' is probably the wiser and mature thing to do these days.

By the way re: Stevie's star quality. I saw her in concert at Jones Beach a few weeks ago. She twirled. As much as she used to? No. But she didn't need to. She's like Cary Grant. Every minor nuance had the audience in thrall -- and rightfully so. . . she's luminous . . . like a star.

(Obviously, I'm talking metaphorically here.) When I watch today's Stevie on TV or YouTube, I don't "see" what so many others see. Yes, she twirls & wiggles, but I haven't enjoyed a twirl or a wiggle of hers since the U.S. unemployment rate was above 9 percent.

How I completely agree with you. When I hear people say how she performed Rhiannon just like she did in the 1970's and then I see the performance and think to myself, "I don't think so buddy." A few months back when I posted this photo in the Tusk Tour Thread and you commented, "I wish FM still had this kind of Vibe." I wanted to reach thru the computer and hug you(don't be afraid). I fail to see why Stevie would even want to be involved with Fleetwood Mac in any project anymore. Everything the band has done to her has been bad. They basically took away her life for the better part of 30 years and made it so she could never have an off day much less get married and have children. As far as Lindsey goes... well what more needs to be said about that guy? He pretty much ruined the entire Say You Will album. In between his poor production of Stevie's songs and trying to make the album a double album (like that failure Tusk,) the guy has the nerve to go out and outshine and outperform Stevie thoughout the entire tour. What a jerk! On top of that, even though Stevie has taken several personal jabs about him and the production of the album in the media, Lindsey has not respond in a similar fashion at all. Talk about gutless!

This time around things are going to be done right. They're going to bring in someone who Stevie likes so Lindsey won't get his grubby paws on any of her material and ruin it. When you're listening to the next Fleetwood Mac album, you'll be skipping every Lindsey track to hear Stevie. Afterall, Stevie is the reason why Fleetwood Mac even exists much less is around anymore. They need her more than she needs them!!!

I know it is...i wouldn't put anything past Lindsey. He threw Stevie up against a car and practically chocked her, and that's mild compared to the CAH incident.

Couldn't have said it better myself Jason.

BTW, message me sometime! I'd love to reconnect! Did you see about my mom? :wavey:

Maybe Lindsey should drag her down the driveway with a car, so long as he takes a tape recorder. That way we could find out if she can still hit the highs like she used to.

That was mean wasn't it? :D

I can't see why she would want to be involved with FM anymore either but to say eveything the band has done to her is bad is absurd and very insulting to Stevie. Did she have no free will? No mind of her own? If she had really wanted to get married and have a family she could have done.

There is no doubt that the introduction of Stevie and Lindsey propelled an average band to Supergroup status but by the same token they weren't exactly setting the charts alight at the time were they?

The statement about everything that Fleetwood Mac has done to her as being bad were taken from John McVie himself, but I definitely agree with him. Stevie has said many times that being in Fleetwood Mac is like being in the Army and you can't take an off day. *rolling eyes* Yeah, right. My point is, she has taken very little responsibility for her own decisions of not getting married and having children and chalks it up to being sacrifices for the band. Because there's no possible way Fleetwood Mac could have survived without her. *rolling eyes again* Funny, I've never heard Miss McVie bellyache about how she had to sacrifice her entire life and possibly having a family of her own for the very same band for an even longer period of time.

What does this have to do with Lindsey? Well, look at what's going on with Fleetwood Mac now, and who do you think is the one who's wanting another producer other than LB and Sheryl Cow to participate? Maybe Fleetwood Mac would have never attained the star status they would have without Stevie, but it's too bad Lindsey didn't leave her when he had the chance in 1975.

FOUL -- she has repeatedly said it was her choice and she is at peace with it. She went on about how being a great aunt was good enough for her. She also notes that many of the women in the same boat as her made the same choice.

Maybe you missed those 100 or so articles over the last ten years :wavey:

Who knows - maybe you just are sick of hearing her talk about her scrifices. But, that does not lessen them. And, people are always asking her that question. What's she supposed to do, rudely say "I AM NOT ANSWERING THAT QUESTION ANYMORE"

. . . but it's too bad Lindsey didn't leave her when he had the chance in 1975 . . . .

Actually, she left him becuase allegedly he wanted to marry her and she did not want to marry him (hence his line "packin up - shakin up's all you wanna do") -- But, had he left her and FM (or never joined) in 1975 - it is likely we may never have heard of him in any significant way. They all needed FM to get stardom. True, La Nicks and her ambition went way beyond that. But, without FM to propell her who knows what would have happened. I personally think she was too ambitious, talented, pretty, and eyecathing on stage to go unnoticed for long. But, the reality is FM made her.

Come on, Lindsey can start sweating just walking on stage. Hopefully he

wears exrta deodorant so those onstage with him are'nt suffering.

Stevie is a lady so she does'nt sweat she perspires.

Seriously though what is the big deal if Fleetwood Mac have another

producer on board? Lindsey looked pretty frazzled in the DR doc and being

married with children seems to be aging him quickly. So maybe it will be good

for him. I think a new producer could bring a fresh approach to the music

and take some of the stress and pressure out of the recording sessions.

Um, biased much? One-sided calling your name.

Yeah, there's a LOT of ambitious, talented, pretty, blah, blah, blah people out there- and many of them probably have better voices than Stevie (Oh my! Sacrilege) yet they aren't even heard of. Let's try that theory all the way and not get all exclusive because it's your Stevie. I'm not going to disagree with you about Lindsey not amounting to anything had he not been in FM, but why is Stevie apparently cut from finer cloth? Big whatever.

*note: I read the whole post and I understand it's simply your opinion. But the reality is that I'm flying very high right now on my "Lindsey Great News" kite and it always seems that someone from the chiffon side has to cut the string and send me crashing before I can fully enjoy my ride. I am as harsh on La Nicks, believe me. I just note when I think people give LB too much credit. I do it with her as well. In this instance, people are all over her for trash talking him. IMO -- they ignore that it may be the truth.

And, fly that LB kite as high as you want. I, like you, cannot wait to hear the new record. True, I did not care for UTS despite a few moments of coolness (note -- I did not care for some of TISL because I think she was vocally lazy) . But, I loved his songs on SYW and am anxious to hear the rock side. I guess to me, talking about FM has nothing to do about the excitement in the LB solo dept. I think the people who like only LB are way to sensitive when it comes to people talking about his work in the context of La Nicks. Such is the fodder of FM boards.

On edit - I think La Nicks is cut from a finer cloth because she had more ambition. LB was the one with the musical talent for production. But, I sort of get the feeling that he would have never really finished his songs if he had had to work to put the roof over their heads. I think he would have still made great music though. Interestingly, I credit both of them for each other's wounds. I think the team work resulted in the music. In other words, would ISA been as great without La Nicks egging him on and providing her input? I am sure it would have been great, but as great as it turned out -- Who can say for sure? In the past, they played well off of each other. Sadly, I do not think that happened a whole lot (save for SG) on SYW. That is why I think an objective opinion might benefit them. To the LB peeps, that translates into La Nicks is a fukcing cu*T.

She's never said this. I don't think either of them ever considered the subject of marriage. Just wasn't on the radar. Maybe too "establishment" or something. According to her, they thought they were married in every sense of the word and so did her parents. As to why she broke up with him, she's given a 1000 different reasons and none of them had to do with him wanting to marry her.

Since he's the one Polydor wanted and also the one that FM wanted, I doubt that he would have been a failure without her. If nothing else, he could have eked out the same type of career that Waddy has. He might not have been famous without FM, but his name would probably be known to other musicians. Michele
