that I don't know about? I would love to know how she came about covering one of his songs on this tour. I do recall reading one time many years ago that they were planning to do a duet.

He probably porked her, at least once in her career. I think that was sort an exclusive 70's rock guy club to be a member of.

At the show at the Hard Rock last week, she introduced the song by saying something like this / telling this story:
(paraphrasing here)
Jimmy Iovine, the guy who produced my first 3 albums, and who has produced everybody else in the world, was working with Bob Seger back in the early 80's. Jimmy told me this story about Bob Seger. One day he was waiting for Bob in the studio and he called when Bob was one hour late, two hours late, several hours late, waiting for Bob Seger in the studio.
Something like 18 hours later Bob Seger called him. He had jumped on his motorcycle after some sort of (something) and he took off the day before and was 5 states away when Jimmy finally spoke to him. Stevie said, now that's a true rock and roller. So this song (Face the Promise) is my homage to Bob Seger.
And during the song they played all this video of a motorcycle cruising down the highway.
I'm sure once a bootleg surfaces, the story will be clearer than my recollection, but that's the essence of what I remember she said in the intro.

Ok now, that's turning me off.
I wonder if she's thinking of licensing the rights to use Easy Rider clips as a backdrop.

I think 'Roll Me Away' or 'The Fire Inside' would work well though, I wonder why she chose the Segar song she did.
Unless.....someone is forcing her hand with these choices.
'Sometimes It's A Bitch'!
'Loves A Hard Game To Play'!
Could it be long before we hear 'You Light Up My Life'??

Dude, that's really crude.

I think that fits the meaning of the song too. You know, gettin' out. No, not Betty Lou.

I looked up the lyrics to the Seger song. The lyrics contain this line:
So long Arizona, so long desert sands
It's a great rockin' song according to the people that have heard Stevie perform it. She just sold her house there too. So: so long Arizona! Her father's no longer there. Her focus has changed.

lol She should do 'Famous Final Scene'. Hmm, that wouldn't be too un-Stevie at all.

Don't forget, Rick Vito played for Bob Seger for years so they have that in common.

I heard from a studio engineer who had worked with Shawn Phillips that Shawn and Stevie had tried working together, but she had been so impossible, Shawn gave up and refused to do anything more. No doubt he's not the only one who tried. Diva ;)

Who the bleep is Shawn Phillips?
Best kept secret in the music industry..... counts the likes of Alanis Morisette among his biggest fans.
Here's the Wiki:
Shawn Phillips (born February 3, 1943) helped define folk-rock in the 1960s and progressive-new-age rock in the 1970s.
...an artist of such raw talent, ambition and good will... Phillips' main attraction is still his voice. Reedy and flexible, with a remarkable falsetto, it is a potent dramatic instrument. —Rolling Stone Magazine
Shawn Phillips has almost twenty albums to his credit (of which millions have been sold) and a host of associations with some of the most respected names in the industry including Donovan, Paul Buckmaster, J. Peter Robinson, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and many others, yet he is virtually forgotten except by his cadre of loyal fans. The Texas-born singer/songwriter was called "The best kept secret in the music business," by the late rock impresario Bill Graham.
Beginning in the 1960s, Phillips made noteworthy contributions to popular music. He performed at the "Isle of Wight" festival and was cast to play the lead in the original production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (he had to withdraw due to his heavy recording and touring schedule.)
Throughout the 60s Phillips worked the folk music scene in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury, New York's Greenwich Village, and London. In 1967 Phillips moved to Positano, Italy, where he remained throughout the 1970s, writing some of his most well known work. This period produced the albums 'Contribution', 'Second Contribution', 'Collaboration' and 'Faces".
Four of his albums "Faces," "Bright White," "Furthermore" and "Do You Wonder" made it into the Billboard Top 100. In addition, the singles, "Lost Horizon," "We" and "Woman" made Billboard's top 40. One of the most sought after Christmas songs is Phillips' 1970 45rpm release of "A Christmas Song" on A&M 1238. The track is now available on the re-issue of Faces.
His latest album, 'No Category' featuring his longtime collaborators Paul Buckmaster and Peter Robinson was released in 2002.
Today Shawn lives in Port Elizabeth, South Africa dividing his time between writing, touring, and his work as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and firefighter.
ALSO: Shawn helped a young Joni Mitchell learn how to play guitar, as well as found himself sharing a London flat with his talented roommates Donovan and Paul Simon. He co-wrote “Sunshine Superman” with Don and was later invited by Paul McCartney to sing backup on the Beatles' "Lovely Rita”.
Considered a "pioneer rock balladeer" with a 3 octave range.
Now you know :D
