One of Stevie's heroes, Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplaine is in town at the West County Mall in the Wentworth Gallery for her art show that will begin tomorrow. Too bad Stevie doesn't know about it. That would be awsome to go to the mall and see the 2 of them there and getting a picture with two legends. That would ROCK! I doubt Stevie does know about it, because doesn't she have another show tomorrow? I am going over there tomorrow so I will try to see if Grace would take her picture with me, if so I will let her know that I went to see Stevie today and get her reaction on that. Just thought I woiuld share that with everyone..... I am soooooooo excited!!!!!!:blob1::blob2::]

Ask her if they ever met each other. Oh, wait. They did meet each other because there is that terrible quality song they sang with Heart in a concert. Maybe you could mention that, and see if she has any memories of the occasion.

There's a good chance they met before that, FM opened for or shared the bill with Jefferson Starship several times in '75 and '76.

Nice to see that Grace is so active in her painting now. I don't think she really does any stage work now, that's lovely that she is at that point in her life that she can leave that aside and focus instead on something equally creative and rewarding.
And, from the photos I have seen of her, she appears to be very comfortable with her age, silver hair and all.
A lesson is in there somewhere, for our Stevie to learn..

just sayin'

Well I never want to see Stevie with gray hair. I don't even like it on myself. But to each his/her own. I think Stevie's very comfortable with her age. She as much said so in a recent interview how she felt 60 was only a number. It's how you feel inside that counts and more.

From the Belleville News-Democrat June 13, 2008:

Nicks isn't really bothered by her recent birthday.

"Really, it is just a number," said Nicks, "but an important one. Better that the alternative. I would say. I've never been one to be obsessed with my numerical age. I really do believe you are as young as you feel, and as long as you are happy within yourself and good to others, your youth shines through, no matter what your age. It's all about change.. in lifestyle, diet, and emotionally. Age is about learning and growing, not your number."

Now that's a good perspective on aging!

better that the two of them don't meet again .Grace might repeat her famous quote about old people having no place on a rock and roll stage.

I believe she feels that way because you cannot build a show around two songs (Somebody To Love and White Rabbit). I believe Grace released two solo albums that sold about 1000 copies collectively. Obviously she has other songs than the two I mentioned, but who really knows them? It would be a ten minute concert.

Hey, at least Stevie had the good sense (along with at least half a dozen other well known acts at the time) to turn down the chance to record "We Built This City".

And I actually thought that Grace lived as a recluse in the desert , her daughter China sort of helping her out and being her contact with the outside. Something like all the acid she did in the 60's and 70's and drinking etc had given her some psychiatric illness as she was getting older. I wish I could remember where that came from, possibly from a VH1 thing years back.
Good to see, she's on her feet and doing something creative.

That would be a shame if Dreams didn't sell much. I have that album of hers, and it is great. "Full Moon Man" is epic. I also have her album, Welcome to the Wrecking Ball. It isn't as good, but I still like it and the artwork on the front and back and in the gatefold is hilarious. There were a couple of other albums also, that I don't have.

Here ya go:

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/SummerConcert/Story?id=4956277&page=1

"Slick, whose brash style in the masculine world of rock was a role model for today's greatest female performers, confessed in a 1998 VH1 documentary that "all rock 'n' rollers over the age of 50 look stupid and should retire."

Counter:

"The grande dames of rock and pop -- Tina Turner, Cher, Bette Midler and Madonna -- are still recording, touring and commanding astronomical ticket prices at the biggest venues with fan bases that cross all age barriers.

So, too, are Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Gladys Knight, Dolly Parton and many more. Only one publicist, Liz Rosenberg, who represents Nicks, Cher and Madonna, commented on Slick's classic off-color invective.

"What an ageist statement to make," Rosenberg told ABCNEWS.com. "I find all these women totally inspiring as their fans obviously do as well. Tell Grace to get out on the road this summer and see if any of these 'grand dames' perform. I think she will change her mind. And tell her to bring her daughter with her."

On a sidenote:

"Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, who shocked audiences in the 1960s by jumping offstage drunk to pick a fan's nose and once exposed herself sans undies"

:eek::laugh:

 That's why you hardly ever see a JA tribute band.
