With all the hits and misses on Ebay, artistically speaking, I thought many of you would appreciate this current auction. IMO, it is stunning!

Not one to shun anyone's approach to art, and their interpretations of Stevie, I find this one to be a true capture, I almost wonder if it's not a real photograph.

I think it's Photoshopped or whatever. Here's the original photo, they're too much alike.
Just my opninion

I don't know, I actually think this person (the original, because the auction states this is a photo of the original drawing) really did draw this. I think so because of the hair. In the photo Stevie's hair is very frizzy and there isn't much definition, whereas in the drawing the hair has much more detail and you can actually see strands instead of frizz. Also, you can really tell that the dress is drawn, as well as the details in the shall. You notice the drum is different too. The face is the only thing that would make me think it was photo shopped because it is such a close likeness, but even with the face there are some subtle differences in the shading. I say it's real! :)

No question it's photoshopped. You can transfer any photo into a charcoal drawing and then change it as you want. The "drawing" is exactly the same (with some minor enhancements). The shadows from the drum are the same (the actual drum however is cropped out). If it were a n actual hand drawn piece of art but based on the photo for inspiration, why wouldn't the artist have corrected the blurry hand??
The listing says it's a photo of the actual drawing, all that means is it's a copy of the original copy. People are so easily fooled these days. But that's what keeps eBay sellers in business.

Good point. I didn't even catch that. Well, if it is photoshopped, at least the person isn't trying to get over 200 bucks for it like that other one that was posted here a while ago.

I totally agree w/ all points. Thing is, it's SO lovely, I just don't want to think it's a fraud. I'd love to think that someone out there has talent and is sharing, but then again in this day and age, I could be so wrong.

It's still beautiful, in and of itself.

Man we all need to start doing those and get RICH !

If you have photoshop, no matter what edition, here is the ~two-minute-art~ formula:

CTRL + SHIFT +U to remove all color
In Layer, open background layer ("duplicate layer")
CTRL + I to inverse pic
In Layers (right side of screen) change drop-down box from "normal" to "color dodge"
In Filter > Blur > gaussian blur

Set pixel value to your desired effect

Print the thing, grab a black charcoal pencil and marker , trace a few lines of the printout.

Now you can say you created it with pencils and markers, JUST like the Dian woman. :D

Welcome to the world of art!!

I posted this a couple of months back, but here is the completed drawing that I commissioned my friend to do.

A few of you, that have posted in this thread already, assured me it was done on Photopshop, but last month I saw the incomplete drawing and watched him work on it.

It is done in charcoal:

Liam, I know I am one of those who said he uses photoshop, and I still maintain that he does.

He takes photographs with his camera, edits them in photoshop, prints that on art paper and uses the now vague outline of the photo as basis to make better contrast with his pencils.

It's not so much art, as it is tracing something that already existed, and that he does very nicely. But, it is NOT original work.

In my opinion, this is why the drawings look so flat and lifeless too, so two dimensional without spark or depth.
If he would draw from a REAL life living model, a 3-d starting point, his work would pop off the page instead of disappearing into it.

What I would be interested to see would be a drawing he ONLY did IN class, with his art teacher there, and never near a computer. A free hand drawing from nature or imagination instead of tracing a photo as basis.

Why do I even care, I don't know, it's just, it IRKS me to NO end, there are real artists out there and then these crafters/cheaters. A distinction needs to be made.

You posted the link to his gallery. So, here I link freehand pictures from that gallery to prove my point.
Conan, your 17 year old highschooler, his real work from a year ago:

Another drawing from a year ago that I think he traced but not using a computer, just through the paper:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/tanjalalie/cheat/Speed_Avatar_by_LordAvatarZ.jpg

now, a year later, a BLATANT photo, he did not photoshop the original photo vague enough as basis before he started tracing and drawing on it, so all pixels still shine through specially on the left side of the portrait. He took this picture himself, he says.

Here is one where I think he combined techniques: the bottom half is a traced regular pic of his friend, and the angel is a negative , an inversed pic, which you can also easily do in photoshop, ACTUALLY, it's the THIRD step in this process (see my post above ).

BUT AT LEAST! he is trying a different concept instead of JUST tracing and copying, so that's good to see.

And lastly here is a sketch I am working on of my two sons. I took this picture myself, too. Ofcoursesince it's just in the beginning stages I just made the very light sketch for now, later i will use a 2B or 4B pencil to reinforce the shadows and highlights. :D

(For anyone who believes that one, I have some nice bridges to sell you! ;D )

Here is that picture, by the way :), still in color too
