View Full Version : Biloxi Review -SPOILERS

Well, Biloxi was fabulous! Stevie was on point and really singing better than ever.
It was general admission, and I lined up at 5:30 and scored front row directly on the barricade below stevie's mic, on waddy's side.
SPOILERS BELOW~
Opens with Outside the Rain/Dreams
several usual songs-the order may be wrong and I may be missing some from my memory:
Stand Back
Sorcerer
If anyone Falls
Landslide
Crash
Fall From Grace
Big Suprise-a Bob Segar cover --Face the Promise--Stevie really rocked out!
Gold Dust Woman
Rhiannon
EO17
Rock and Roll
Ended with HAEWAFY--she did it as a nice tribute to our troops.
She told us she spent her 60th bday at the show Wicked, and said she could totally play the witch.
NO edge walk! The stage wasn't set up close enough to the barricade, so it was not possible!
NO BATB!!
The stevie commemorative casino chips are cool.
But it was a great show, the high heel boots were on the whole time and stevie really rocked some dance moves!

Wow, I'm actually somewhat pleasently suprised. OTR has been gone for quite some time, so I'm kind of excited to have that back, and the Bob Segar cover sounds awseome. And stephanie, did she play IAF twice?
Stephanie

oops yeah--that should have been ended with HAEWAFY. oops! I fixed it above.
also, the name of the segar cover was Face the Promise.

NICE, I've been saying forever that I wanted Stevie to drop BATB and add HAEWAFY.

Thanks for posting a review so quickly, Stephanie. :) Stevie really mixed up the setlist this time. I am actually surprised that she did change it slightly. I thought for sure it would be the same setlist as last fall. I don't understand all the covers however. Couldn't she just as easily done a song of hers that she's never done before instead of a Bob Seger s0ng? :(

Thank you for the review. I have a question though.
Since OTR flows into Dreams, she didn't do her little Dreams story did she?
Did she still tell the Sorcerer story and do any funny gestures?
I am also happy that OTR is back because I have always liked the way it flows into Dreams and is a really good opener.

I feel bad for everyone that couldnt do the edge walk. Sometimes that happens, and when it does, its a real bummer.

Wow, I avoid General Admission shows, but getting a seat like that makes it all worthwhile. Sounds like a great night.

Stephanie, thanks for the information on the show. I'm glad Stevie changed it up a little bit. I agree with others about the cover songs, I wish she would sing more of her own. But the Zep song is a real rocker.
And what did you think about the venue at the Hard Rock? Doesn't it hold about 1400? How were the acoustics? Thanks!

trading the old opener for the even older opener is not real change.
trading the old closer for the even older closer is not real change.
i'm excited because i'm bringing my dad and we have great seats. i'm excited to see stevie perform and catch the energy from the stage. i'm not excited about the setlist at all.

the venue was awesome. small and intimate. Not sure how many it held, but it was full.
Acoustics were great. Because she did a whole week of rehearsals there prior to the show , so they had a week to get it all perfect.
Merchandise was CRAP! One guy taking cash only, looked like he rolled out of a van, all old stuff except one black tee with the new tour logo.
The casino chip is very cool.

the concert was amazing. seriously. setlist aside, Stevie was on fire. I posted a review on The Chain and I'm in the process of sharing pics/vids.

I think you were. I figured out who you were and turned around after the show and you were already gone. I was wearing a black top, moon necklace just like yours, light jeans with rhinestones on them. I have short dark hair. I was just slightly to the left and in front of you. Yeah it was amazing. Stevie was the best and most alive I have seen in years. That high kick was super high and the boots stayed on the whole time!!!! I saw you taking vid, on the front they were constantly telling us to stop vid and flash photos, so I only took about 30 still pics. Few very good ones though!

Do you guys think that the idea for the Seger song may have been suggested by Rick Vito? Did Rick play on this particular Seger album? Another possible connection that might have sparked the idea in Stevie is that Kid Rock -- with whom Stevie is friends, right? -- worked on the Seger album.

It looks like during HAEWAFY she's was rockin' a new cream or white coloured coat with tails, over the white dress.

Stevie said she asked a bunch of people to do the Soundstage with her, making it sound like Dave Matthews wasn't the only one. I wonder if this Seger song was one she tried out then too. Michele

For the SYW tour, during NGBA, before she joined in on the chorus, Stevie would use the time to get dressed for Rhiannon over there in the corner. Seeing her bare arms as her assistant put her into the Rhiannon wing sleeves was extraordinary and rare. It was like seeing the ankle of a polygamist wife! Forbidden.
One thing that I thought was very cute on the Bass Hall dvd was that Leelee pulled up her shirt for no particular reason. Stevie should try that some time.
Michele
Looking forward to seeing her in Cincinnati on the 26th of June. I REALLY like that Bob Seger song she covers. Is How Still My Love in the setlist or not? Stephanie doesn't have it listed, but it's on Jazzmen's youtube videos. I want to see that performed, along with If Anyone Falls. It's been awhile since I've seen that one done in concert. Looking and sounding good Stevie!!!!

oh yea- it was there. I was typing fast and trying to remember in my hotel room, and I think I got a lot of the order jumbled too.
She said the seger song was b/c Jimmy Iovine produced it, and told a story of how Jimmy told Bob, see you tomorrow after a recording session. Well Bob never showed up, and Jimmy called him and he replied, I am a hour outside Detroit. So she said her producer inspired her to do it.

I love her to death, but I just have to say this....She really needs to stay away from cover songs. "Crash" doesn't sound good when I heard her sing it (saw it on youtube), and She does ok with the Led Zepplin song, but when I read Bob Seger at the bottom of the page.....i don't know.... I want to hear her songs. And yes, I know I will hear her music, but there are some songs that men originally sang that women cannot sing, and Stevie yes, she can sing, but I don't believe that she can sing everything. I am sorry but that's the way I feel. Now if she wanted to cover a Tom Petty song she could sing "The Waiting". I can hear her sing that one. She did great covering Tom's "Free Fallin'" as well. I am very excited to see her this comming Friday, and whatever she sings I won't care because I will be having such a good time. But I just think in my own opinion, that there are some women of rock that don't need to be singing male songs. Just because you have a great voice doesn't mean that it can do and sing everything there is. But I am excited to hear it, just to see what it would sound like.

I don't like the fact that she does so many covers. It simply doesn't make any sense to me.... And it's rather frustrating, to tell you the truth. But I still love me my Stevie.

Thanks Stephanie. I'm glad she left HSML in. I've never seen her do that in concert and I understand her performance of it is very sexy these days.
It seems like she is talking about Jimmy being her producer in present tense. Am I reading too much into this?! As I recall, it was reported that Stevie and Bob Seger were actually collaborating on some music back in the mid-80s(around the time of RAL). I wonder whatever became of that?
but there are some songs that men originally sang that women cannot sing
Well, I have to agree with you on Stevie's cover of "Crash". What I've seen on the internet, I think that one is a little lacking when compared to Dave Mathews'. However, I think she does a terrific job with R&R and I think "Face the Promise" is tailor made for her. I'm really looking forward to seeing her do this one live!
Thanks for the video Jazmen!

Cool backdrop.
I agree -- she is one of the few artists able to support the troops with both her mouth, checkbook, and time. I also think she is great for saying no matter how you feel about the situation in Iraq, the troops should be taken care of. She figured out a way for her to fit taking care of them into what she does best, sort of like a doctor donating medical services. I think that is great.

I'm a fan, not a groupie. But since you asked.
81-that was a very limited "tour" and the only footage most people saw from those shows were from the In Concert film that aired on cable or the video released. And HSML was cut from that.
83-I was there, I honestly don't "remember" seeing her do that. For whatever reason, and I could list a few, but I won't. So was it good? Want to share an audio or video clip?
86-I don't think she did it on that tour. ?
89-Didn't see her. I don't think she came close to where I lived, and I don't travel long distances to see her. I do have a tape from the San Jose concert from that tour and HSML was a highlight from that show for me. Overall, I wasn't too blown away by this concert.
05-Didn't go to Caesar's Palace for the aforementioned reason. I did see her on the Gold Dust Tour, but HSML was dropped from the setlist.
07-She didn't come close to home that year.
So there you have it, I'm going to get to see her do this song after all these years, hopefully!
She takes her shirt off!
And I thought that Stevie always thought that less is more when it came to being sexual. Besides that, I consider myself a "BUTT MAN" :]!!

Is it just me or Stevie seems to be playing around with this whole notion/rumour and just having fun with it. Kind of like poking some fun at herself and at the media/rumor mill. It obviously is not a rumor that is going away anytime soon, so might as well poke fun at it.

Do you have Irfanview or Photoshop or another similar photo editing software? You might need to reduce the size of the photos.
Are you using Photobucket or Snapfish or a similar photo hosting site? Not sure what size limitation is.
If you still need help, you can email them to me and I can upload them for you.
Just PM me if you need help.

She does seem to be playing that up recently. She made a comment during the intros at Mohegan in April about all the witchy things she does with Lori. Then she asked that we didn't write to them about that....I don't really remember her commenting on it during concerts before, but I'm loving the Chatty Cathy version of Stevie during concerts.

The Chris Isaak show was hilarious and had lots of good music. I wish the whole thing was available on DVD. For Stevie's episode, I liked the way she was able to laugh at herself. She's got a great sense of humor, whether she's having fun or angry. She can say the most amazing things.

Now that my tunnel vision has abated, I am thrilled to hear Stevie do whatever covers are inspiring and exciting to her at any given time. It shows that she is alive and loving music and not so wrapped up in the Stevie mystique or the fear of disappointing her audience that has kept the set so much the same for so long.
Go Stevie! Be fearless and creative and do whatever the hell you want!!!
My 2 cents.

WOW, Just watched Face the Promise a couple times and I got to say, its one of my favorite performances ever by her. I think she finally made a really great cover decision. It's not like Rock and Roll, where she's doing one of rocks most well known songs ever. She's doing a very obscure Bob Seger song. Since I have never heard it previously, it's really almost like a new song to me. Really how is it any different then her playing Talk To Me. Neither song was written by Stevie. I got the same feeling wathcing the Face the Promise for the first time, that I got when I watched Fall From Grace on the blockbuster awards back in 2001. Seeing her sing a brand new song with such fire made me love her so much more. Face the Promise is just that for me.
One of her best decisions ever, just months after one of her worst. (Crash)

:wavey:
the story she told us (tampa) about doing Crash was really cute. several musician friends were supposed to join her for the DVD taping and no one showed. she called dave - who dropped out as his newest baby was just born - and said she was going to keep it and do it without him. she said she enjoyed singing it from a woman's perspective as a solo, though i would kill to hear a duet.
and my inner child still squeals thinking about it. i listened to that song on repeat back in the day... when i wasn't busy listening to stevie on repeat.
