View Full Version : Depressed or Don't Give a Damn?

OK...so tell me where I am wrong.
I was excited about a new FM Album and Tour. But now I am either depressed, or just don't give a damn.
The news of Sheryl Crow joining gave way to feeling of intrigue and uneasiness.
The response by Lindsey - that she is premature in announcing, made for more intrigue and uneasiness.
The Stevie interview in Q. about not going on the road with Buckingham unless he changes, made for more intrigue and more uneasiness. Do I even want to see this group if they're fighting?
At this point in time, I am not sure how I feel. Remember when the Go-Go's tried to do a reunion tour and everyone ended up fighting and tour cancelled after a few shows? The interview on Good Morning America was downright painful to watch. For me, it was like All Star Wrestling without the ring and a referee.
You people are seasoned...does this sort of thing happen like clockwork with an FM Album & Tour?

It wouldn't be FM without a bit of public dissing.
Personally I doubt if I would buy another album or go to another show with the current lineup unless they somehow persuade Christine to record with them or drastically change the set list.
So I guess I'm in the "don't give a damn" camp.

I just don't see Linds in that band with Sherl Crow. And, I would much rather see Lindsey solo than FM at this point. The chem between Linds and Stevie has to be there for me to see FM...Crow would just be a stick in the gears IMHO.

The only thing I can wrap my head around is LINDSEY touring.

Stevie's recent comments have certainly stopped me from wishing fervently for FM work the way I used to, just a few months ago. However, if they ever do get around to do it, the familiar excitement will kick in and I will be on board. Even during the worst days, they could put on a good show and I think that will still be the case if they work together again.

The way I look at all the public bashing, or a return the soap opera - is what else at this point would garner enough attention to get printed not only once, but reported everywhere? Do you think that an article talking about how everyone loves one another and gets along so famously would be an interesting read... No!
Whether Sheryl stating what she did was deliberate or whether she mis-spoke, only brought some focus back to FM - and it certainly grabbed some headlines....

I give a damn about Fleetwood Mac becoming some sort of 'freak' show whereby any 'past their best' musician, who can't sell their album tags along to sing the harmonies. Do you remember the Beach Boys touring a few years back and there was only one real Beach Boy - the rest just happened to know the words to California Girls. It was embarrassing - their children should have made them stay home or put them somewhere safe. I don't want Fleetwood Mac to end up like that.
I do give a damn about Lindsey releasing a new album and touring again. I don't give a damn about hearing Dreams/Outside the Rain/Stand Back/Silver Springs/EO17 sang in the same set list and in an ever worsening voice for the next ten years.
Did I answer your question:)

Even though Lindsey's 80s albums are better than the Fleetwood Mac 80s albums, these artists' best work is done together and played next to each other and sung to each other.
So, all this bickering is both kinda fun (they should do an album titled Rumours II -- really, they should!). However, it's also . . . depressing. After Tusk, the history of Fleetwood Mac is one of unfulfilled potential and lost time. As Lindsey put it, Say You Will offered the opportunity to rectify that (it's the best thing any of them have done since Tusk): it was the opening of closure.
The hard part -- frustrating, depressing -- is getting EVERYONE (even if it's just the four) to walk through that open door. Every ounce of my being wants to see them do just that. So I definately DO give a damn.

Exactly. That describes the Time lineup perfectly.

This may be the best post ever. Yes, yes and more yes.
Do NOT want a Fleetwood Mac All-Star Package.
Do NOT want anyone turning into Mike Love/Bruce Johnston (literally and figuratively).
DO want some Lindsey live on stage.
DO want some Stevie live on stage with a different setlist, happy and wanting to be there (though, admittedly, I just saw the lady live with the same ole songs and it was pretty fab, but it was my first show in awhile).
DO want to see some John McVie. And Mick too, I guess.
DO tend to rather two great solo shows over one show being done because they have to. Even if that means no John McVie.
In the end though, the fighting is not surprising. This is what Fleetwood Mac does. They fight. They speak through the media. They even get a little snarky at the others during live shows. John sits on his boat and waits. They wouldn't be Fleetwood Mac if none of this happened.

I agree, I would have to say of the five Rumours era members he [Mick] is my least fave.
John kicks major butt...his basslines are KickA$$....
Seriously, John and Mick would do well just to tour with Lindsey under the 'Lindsey Buckingham' ticket...

I just want to keep chatting. :]
I don't care at all what the group does.
DO want to see some John McVie. And Mick too, I guess.
Yea, I wanna see me some John!

Well, like that would happen! Stevie would be running behind them going "hey guys, wait for me!"

I don't care so long as Lindsey Buckingham does something. Anything. I would prefer solo stuff, but if he hits the road with FM, I'll go.

I oddly enough find myself not caring if they tour again either. I'd much rather see Lindsey stick to his solo thing, and Stevie to hers. I enjoyed Lindseys last album and tour so much I'd rather see him keep that going, he was having fun it seems. I really don't see a reason for Fleetwood Mac to get together again unless they make a record and maybe get Christine back, or change the dynamic. They have nothing further they need to prove.
