View Full Version : Dumb question, but is there any hope for a new setlist this summer?

I am well aware that Stevie has been totally boring and predictable these last few years, but is there any chance this summer of a few songs that have not been in the setlist recently? I am not asking for much. Just three or four different songs. Hell, even two songs that have not been played recently would make me happy. She has to throw us a bone, doesn't she?

The chance of that happening is the same likelyhood of seeing a diamond snake in a black sky. I realized as far back as the Rock A Little Tour that things were pretty much gonna stay the same.

Well, what's troubling is that I think there is a good chance she will add something new. But the problem is, it might be a cover. There's at least a 50% chance that it will be. That gets under my skin.

Hasn't she already stated that Sara is back and Storms will be done along with another cover of a Petty tune?

The thing about Storms was an April Fool's joke.

As for Sara, well she did it at her Soundstage, so I guess there's always hope. I really was happy enough to have Sara for the last part of the SYW tour. So, if we're due a surprise, I want something other than Sara. And I'd like it to be "hers," although when I say hers, I mean to allow Talk To Me, Some Become Strangers, and I Still Miss Someone in that description.

Rooms on Fire just needs to come back. According to someone on SW she rehearsed The Chain, Talk to Me, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Silver Springs for the CV tour.

I heard the set-list would include:
Nothing Ever Changes, instead of I Need to Know
Violet & Blue, instead of Fall from Grace
The Wild Heart, instead of Outside the Rain
a menacing, almost operatic Sisters of the Moon
an acoustic set with Beautiful Child, Love Is and The Highwayman.
And I heard she was cutting Dreams;, replacing Stand Back with Sara
and she's finally going to close with a three-song Rhiannon thread including Forrest of the Black Roses, Rhiannon, and a song she began writing 25 years ago and just finished.
Well, that's what one (and sometimes two) of the voices in my head keep telling me.
Isn't there some crazy fan out there that can kidnap her dogs and hold them hostage until she changes the set? I wouldn't even be opposed to Sharon getting kidnapped as long as they treat her right.
C'mon someone, if not for me, Do It For the World!

Enchanted = Best. Stevie. Tour. Ever.

There are SO many touring acts I want to see this summer. If Stevie comes to Texas, I'll probably go...but the pre-tour excitement thrill is gone and that makes me sad.

I totally agree -- ENCHANTED was the best Stevie tour for sure.

This is going to be a VERY good summer full of acts that I am dying to see and the idea of seeing the same old Stevie set doesn't excite me. I didn't even see her last year cause it sounded like a big yawn. What I DID love, however, was seeing her with Tom and the Heartbreakers -- that was AWESOME!!!

I"m seeing Stevie at DTE on June 15th and the 'set list' thing still kills me everytime. I mean as an artist wouldn't you want to shake things up some instead of singing the 'same' songs over & over & over (...& over again)....She has a wonderful catalog (seperate from FMac) theres no reason why she should do 'covers' period. If for some reason this could be her 'last' tour she needs to make it special and do songs not done in ages. No matter how she might feel....as fans we like songs that maybe she doesn't. I love Blue Denim or TTM or heck Long Way To Go which to me would be just rocking....or ROF or I don't know just something different...I don't want 'Crash' I'm not into the Dave Matthews Band...I know a few of there songs but not much. Stevie should play Stevie songs...not even Tom songs....(sorry Tom...like ya but want Stevie songs)....I want something rare and unheard of period......Its a sad day that songs at concerts can't be something special. Yes, I paid the ticket....like most of us did but I guess the only ways for our voices to be heard is just not go.....but I can't do that now....so I must eat my own words so to speak......I guess I'll try & hope for the best for all of us & maybe, just maybe we'll get some 'surprises'......God willing....thats what I'll hope for us all...Please Stevie make these concerts special for US fans....not the fly by night fans....for the real fans.....
I do agree Enchanted was awesome.....I loved all the rare songs.....I so would've loved to have heard Blue Lamp to or Battle of The Dragon.....well I guess the list goes on................no offence anyone....:wavey:

I agree with the above poster.
She has soo many amazing songs, Mac and Solo.

I really don't understand the cover songs she does at all.
Sure I got INTK back in 81 when she had much less material, but now, between that and Crash its kindof...un-called for maybe?

I would love to hear Storms, Crystal, and WISYA live.
Not to mention her solo stuff, NEC, ROF, MLWCYM, WLT...the list goes on and on.
My mom and I were talking about it, and she thinks the reason that Stevie is doing so many cover songs is because her voice has changed so much. I don't find that to be a valid excuse, her SA, TSIL, and SYW songs would translate really well live, and its not like ROF or any of her OSTOM songs would be that bad either. Could I see her not wanting to do say...Kind of Woman, Beautiful Child//Sisters of the Moon, and Thats Alright live..sure.
But her last three solo albums have so many good songs, she cant replace those covers with one of those?
and let's not forget those unreleased songs.
Why not preview a new song to the audience from an 'upcoming project' [the Rhiannon project, a new solo album, a new mac album. WHATEVER]. Just something new?

I mean, I paid..yes I paid the 90 dollars for my ticket to see her. And everyone else here did too. The least she could do is add something! of her own. And I really hope that I am not dissapointed by this show...

We can't expect her to drop Dreams or Rhiannon [hey theres an idea!], because I'm sure half the audience is there BECAUSE of those songs, but what I don't get is that, she doesn't even play her biggest solo hits!
TTM, SDMHA, and L&L all were higher on the charts than EO17. but she doesn't play them.
TTM was even higher than SB!
And then we have ROF which was her biggest europoean hit, and its like..why not play that?

I really just don't understand her thinking.
She's kept the same songs for like 20 years...isn't it time for a change?

What I'd love to see is someday Stevie doing some sort of a set where maybe someone she trusts is on piano, like Sheryl. And Sheryl sort of goes where she wants to musically, and Stevie sort of follows along. Like "After The Glitter Fades" could then morph into "Straight Back" and then something ancient and obscure like "If You Were My Love", even if it's just a scant chorus or two. But I think that we'll never hear anything on stage from Stevie that hasn't been on an official release (either from her or from another artist). I think to her, or her handlers, they would be afraid this would make people all the more interested in these unreleased tracks and search for them online.

i personally think unless she has a profound reason to do it, she's not going to switch it up.

i've always wanted to have a 2-thread part survey. one, everyone spitting out any song they would like to see added to the setlist. the second being the survivor and finally a winner of the song ledgies want added and send it to stevie.

for soundstage, she added sara to the setlist because a producer (was it the producer?) asked and nearly begged her to. she HAD to do it

if we could all come to an agreement on one song, and as a group ask her to play it....

PBS traditionally airs a Soundstage season in two parts -- from January to March and then from June to August. Give or take a week.
Sometimes they don't start back until July. When that happens, they run through September.

My assumpton has been that Stevie's Soundstage will kick off the second half of the current season, in June. Which would seem to be corroborated by her touring in June & July.

However, if GlennGlenn was told "Fall 2008," then it sounds like they'll be using Stevie's show to END the season.

Or maybe a FEW people could make some signs and discreetly hold them up at the next show: Mohegan Sun Arena. Don't be rude, but if people could let HER know their interests directly, maybe it would help. (I just woke up, too)

Someone else posted they'd like to hear any two different songs from all her albums. I like that idea.

The only way you can vote is with your feet (ie, don't go) or maybe with your signs if you already have tickets and want to try to make contact.

Speaking of "Some Become Strangers" as a surprise song, it was one of the songs I plotted if I were going to do a Stevie show.

The setlist:

I Need To Know
Dreams
Some Become Strangers
Enchanted
Gold Dust Woman
Sisters Of The Moon
Stand Back
It's Only Love
Rhiannon
Beautiful Child
Fall From Grace
Edge of Seventeen
Rock And Roll

I think it all comes down to the fact that Stevie is afraid to switch it up. Keep in mind that for the "Enchanted" tour, which has probably her most switched up set list ever, she apoligized for doing songs that "no one is going to know". I love Stevie, but she really underestimates her audience. And it all goes back to the "Rumours" album, before the album came out they did a short tour featuring songs from the album (including "Silver Springs"). The set didn't work with the crowd, so they never did that again.
She forgets that in 1976 many people were still really wanting to hear "Oh Well" and "Hypnotized" so to hear new songs by new people wasn't going to work. If Stevie were to totally switch her set list up (as most artists do) she would very surprised to hear how well it goes over.
According to the article the house was only half full for the other night's show, we'll see what it looks like tonight. If she continues to keep doing the same set over and over, tour after tour, she can expect to be playing the Wolf's Den next time she comes to Mohegan Sun. For those that don't know, the Wolf's Den is the free concert area in the middle of one of the casinos, you can get a seat, or you can sit at a slot machine and watch the show. Or just catch it as you walk thru the casino.

She is promoting the Soundstage concert -- so that will be her setlist. I think she thinks that "Crash" is a welcome change and constitutes the change this year a la Circle Dance, Rock and Roll, SYWTBARRS - is the last three shows. I also think that when you have been around as long as her, the seven or so songs that have to be in the set crowd the set. Having said that - she really should realize that Enchanted, Sorcerer, and the other non-hits are readily replaceable and she should make the effort.

skuncles
04-20-2008, 12:44 PM
That's just it, she has been around long enough that she could do almost anything from her catalog. Look at people like Springsteen, he does shows where he doesn't do "Born In The USA" or "Dancing In The Dark" or any of his huge hits. The reviews for those shows are usually his best.
Stevie could do a total SOLO set and drop "Rhiannon", "Landslide", "Gold Dust Woman" etc and fans would still be happy as can be. You would almost think that with a Fleetwood Mac tour supposedly in the plans that she would lay off the Mac songs on this outing. From her perspective alone I have to think she gets tired singing the same songs night after night.
I'm about ready to head out the door down to the casino, we'll see if she's as on fire tonight as she was last year!

strandinthewind

^^

and - she grew a set and dropped Landslide for the TISL shows for that very reason - she said she knew FM was going on tour in a year or so. Some fans complained, but from what I saw, they still had a good time.

Have fun and take my advice and ignore the ATM's in the casino

The thing is, if people stop coming because she doesn't change the setlist, she would never figure out that was the reason. She'd attribute the dwindling box office to other things.

And, in all fairness to her, she has been singing mostly the same set list for three years and the people are still coming

On edit - maybe she views the mini tour with Henley and the summer with Petty as breaks in her touring schedule that showed change.

What amazes me is how Stevie is able (& willing) to maintain this grueling touring schedule, year after year after year. This is a woman who, thirty years ago, got so tired on long FM tours that she could barely work up the strength to sing "Rhiannon" & "Angel."

Now it's thirty years later, & Stevie tours every year, sometimes twice a year, at the age of 60.

I just got back from the Mohegan Sun show tonight, GREAT show. Stevie may be doing the same old set list, but she's having a blast doing it. Even "Crash" was fun, and she said that doing that song has been the most fun she's had on stage in 15 years. This was basically the same show as last year, but the crowd ate up every second of it. Stevie thanked us at the start for allowing her to walk out to a full house, and again at the end for "being a great crowd, I don't get crowds like you every night, I'm beoming an old lady and you've made this so much fun for us."
So for anyone thinking about going, do yourself a favor and go, you WON'T be disappointed. Oh and to top it off, I won $143 on a slot machine, not too bad!!!

This is exacally how i felt after seeing her back in September, Blah, blah, the set list...I KNOW. But this was the best id ever seen her. and the happiest ive ever seen her. No there were no "rarities" or "surprizes" and its not 1983, but IT WAS A GREAT SHOW AND A GREAT PREFORMANCE . She really did not dissapoint. Glad to see thats still the case. I actually can't wait to get to hear her do crash in person. I ADORE the dance of seduction after HSML., and whish she'd kept sara in the set, but hey, the dvds commin out soon, so its cool.

Glad u had such a great time!

In the end, given the choice between only one or the other, I'd take an awseome performance of a tired set list, over a great set list not done very well, although really there's no excuse to not have a little of the latter mixed in, but when it comes down to it, while your there what matters most is HOW she is performing, not WHAT she is performing (again i'm not letting her off the hook  )

So, she once had a really great time on stage 15 years ago? 1993. Michele

Oh ok. So The STC tour was fun, and then presumably straight up through 1993 to this day, she didn't have fun. That's too bad that touring was such a drag for her. I might have thought 'The Dance' tour would have been fun, as it was a return to the glamour of a high-dollar tour (compared to SA, which was in buses) and also because she had Christine there with her.

I also might have though the first Vegas shows would be fun for her too, because of the special effects she introduced. But maybe they were stressful..

And don't forget to factor in the +/- 5 margin of error. So it could have been the most fun she's had since the Dance Tour... or the STC tour. In any event, Mama just likes any excuse to hike up her skirt, mmkay?
