Today while I was driving I was flipping the radio dial and came upon a country-western music station playing a beautiful song I have never heard before.
It was sung by a man and the most prevelant phrase I kept hearing him sing was either, "there ain't no one who can sing like me." Or "there is no one who can sing like me." Every once in a while a woman would chime in on the backup vocal singing the same line, but the man was definately the lead vocal.
Someone please tell me the artist and song title AND if your feeling extra generous how about sending me a link to this song via pm???

There's a song by Billy Bragg on the album mermaid avenue called Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key that has those lyrics. These are the full lyrics, is this the one?
I lived in a place called Okfuskee
And I had a little girl in a holler tree
I said, little girl, it's plain to see
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
She said it's hard for me to see
How one little boy got so ugly
Yes my little girly that might be
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
We walked down by the Buckeye Creek
To see the frog eat the goggle-eye bee
To hear the west wind whistle to the east
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Oh my little girly will you let me see
Way over yonder where the wind blows free
Nobody can see in our holler tree
And there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree
And laid it on the she and me
It stung lots worse than a hive of bees
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Now I have walked a long long ways
And I still look back to my Tanglewood days
I've led lots of girls since then to stray
Saying ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
If it is it I can send you it. Plus you should hear some of the rest of the album, it's a realy great album.

Shew. Country music today is so heinous. case in point, I was driving a few weeks ago and the radio was on...and some song came on about why this guy liked "sunday." He was talking about baked beans...a porch swing and a coupon for 50 cents off ground round...or SOMETHING to that effect. One word. YIKES.

Billy Bragg's biggest hit was Sexuality, a pro-gay supportive alt rock hit.

Im not usually a country fan myself but when I was flippin the radio dial this man's voice just totally called out to me. RubyTuesday already sent me the track and I'm totally loving it. I'm gonna send the link to you. Please listen to it and tell us what you think. I can't wait to play this for my mother and all my friends!!
Interestingly enough the album cover looks like a scene out of the Gypsy video.

If you want to hear great country, yes, both old and new mixed in with great rock, both old and new (yup, even Peter Green era FM) plus maybe some folk and other genres try KPIG if you are in the SF Bay Area or kpig.com if you are anywhere else. It is radio at its best, like I remember radio being.

Am I missing something? How does this look like the Gypsy video?
Btw, that album isn't country. It's Woody Guthrie lyrics with new music written for them.

Now that you've shown me this I realize my mistake. The photo that comes up with the song looks way different than this.

A lot of modern country is heinous, but then a lot of modern rock music is dire too. There's still fantastic country music out there, it's just probably not played on the radio much.
every time someone says country music sucks i want to reach for something sharp.
there isn't much good country played on the radio here, no. trisha, dierks bentley, dixie chicks, miranda lambert, and some brad paisley are all i can stand for the most part.
