I am compiling a Stevie CD of just sparse, piano demos, including Planets of the Universe, Forest of the Black Roses, etc. I'm looking for suggestions for the track-listing for the perfect one-disc CD.
I've already designed the cover, but I will design interior CD booklet pages for lyrics, credits, spooky photos, as well as CD backtray and CD label (even though I only use lightscribe CDs now. I love not having to print and adhere labels anymore.)

Great idea! Piano demos are my favorites!
As you suggested, definitely Forest of the Black Roses and POTU...
And I agree with the others on China Doll and Blue Water as well...
I would also suggest some from my own piano playlist:
Gypsy- slow piano version is a must!
After the Glitter Fades piano demo (Stevie hits pretty high notes on this one)
Gypsy Beggars
Forsaken Love - piano demo!
The Tower (of course!)
Beautiful Child demo - rock n roll lullabye
Christian (Spinning Wheels)
Knocking on Doors
Bella Donna - piano demo
Belle Fleur - piano demo
Sisters of the Moon - piano demo
Smile At You - (mostly piano - maybe some guitar enters later)
Rock a Little - piano demo w/ Mick
Sara - Cleaning Lady Version
The Nightmare piano demo - 14 mins + long, but still kicks ass!
Definately sisters of the moon. it's her best piano demo. beautiful, subtle head-range notes at the end.

Definately sisters of the moon. it's her best piano demo. beautiful, subtle head-range notes at the end.I love that one.
Another one I'm crazy about is "All the King's Horses," with what sounds like Mick Fleetwood on drums & some of her non-FM pals on guitar & bass guitar.

These are all great suggestions. The piano demos of Rhiannon, Three Birds of Rhiannon, Forest, Planets, Sisters, Sara, Highwayman and The Tower are definite. Concerns for length/running time and audio quality will determine final setlist, but Beautiful Child, slow piano Gypsy are right up there. Thematically, I'm married to the more "haunting" tracks (hence the title, "Ghosts"), so I will probably end up creating vol. 2 with the less ethereal tracks!
I will also edit files in Soundforge to trim extraneous material when necessary (i.e. I have one demo with 45 seconds of studio fumbling before the song actually begins) as well as minor, fixable ticks in the recording. I'm basically a novice in this territory, but I have one my DJ friends training me to use Soundforge and Acid Pro, so I'll exploit his talent.
I'm going to try to keep the set cohesive in terms of audio quality and tone, so I'll need input. At some point, I'll do a CD of live cuts, solid demos, etc. There are so many possibilities to extend her discography. There's another thread about getting one's friends into Stevie and it makes a good point. A disc of dance remixes, scaled-back ballads, country, etc. - with artwork & liner notes - is a great way of bringing more into The Temple of Stevie.
By next week, I'll post as working version of the set list, which I will adjust according to feedback and then I'll begin the sound-editing. I'll design the booklet's interior pages afterward because I'll need to collect lyrics and songwriter credits. There may be a throwaway "in her own words" line or two about a certain song as part of the design.
