That's a nice story. I can remember age four when I appeared on a local children's TV show. I don't remember the actual show though.

Ugh. Typed out a long response and lost it while trying to post. (Hate when that happens.):mad::mad::mad:
Will try again later.

It's because of the trauma she remembers it. What an awful thing for her to have gone through. And I kind of doubt that is just the way things were then. That's the way things were in her family. How awful for her brother to have been shipped away like that. :(

I remember going to stay with my grandmother when my brother was being born. I was three at the time. I think you can remember the big things from when you are that young. I probably have other memories from that time that I cannot recall. Photos can sometimes unlock these. Or memories that I cannot pinpoint the timescale for. I just know Billy was born in '74 so I know exactly how old I was during that event.

I just wonder how someone can remember things from when they were 3, and also what other tragic and sad stories is she hiding under that bonnet? [/IMG]

I think my earliest memories were from when I was 2. I remember sharing a bedroom with my sister and grandmother. I slept in the middle (3 twin beds pushed together). And I think I literally did not sleep for a solid year. I laid awake at night staring at the ceiling and the sheets, imagining creepy-crawlies and images of dead people. Pretty intense for a toddler, eh? I remember the sense of relief I felt when the night started to lighten into day and my parents got up for work...

And of course I remember being pottie trained; that was pretty traumatic.

Oh, I forgot to mention a little 'thing' that happened on the ferry over to Ellis Island on Sunday.

Some woman on the boat to Ellis Island almost ruined my day. My mom and I were looking out the window as we passed the Statue of Liberty. And my mom innocently says "Ohh, I remember seeing a program on channel 13 about how they built the statue. It was a present from France." So, I said "Yes, but they didn't provide the pedestal." This woman next to my mother rolls her eyes and huffed and said out loud in our direction "It was a gift to the American Government."

So I looked at her and said "True. But it is a fact that when we agreed to accept it we knew that the pedestal was not part of the gift and we had to raise funds to build it ourselves."

And she sort of laughed sarcastically to her boyfriend or whatever and huffed out loud "At least they gave something." And she was sort of rolling her eyes and shaking her head to her boyfriend as if to say "well I really told HIM off."

My mother was giving me a look that said "Don't you dare make a scene." And, of course I wouldn't but we both got a laugh at this indignant little beast. And she wasn't even European, she had no accent. But she was holding a NYC tourbook so obviously she wasn't local. And, to make matters worse, she was wearing BLACK leather pants with a BROWN suede jacket. What kind of a hooker dresses like that?
:lol::lol::lol:

I hate know-it-alls.

Oh and I meant to say I'm glad you and your mom had such a nice day together. :)

That reminds me of a conversation I overheard at the St. Louis Arch a few years ago. This woman, from wherever, was going on about how the Arch is the tallest structure in North America. When I interjected that there are many taller buildings, namely the Sears Tower and the Empire State Building, she grew visibly irritated and insisted that the Arch was taller (which, at 630-something feet, is definitely not), and then just turned away like I wasn't there. People believe what they want to believe, I guess...

And how many cats did they have to shave to make a tube top that large? :wavey:

LMAO!

I would love to visit Ellis Island. So glad you and your mother enjoyed eachothers company. Anymore, my mother just drives me insane. Sorry about the snooty bitch on the ferry. People like that just amaze me... I would have asked when she was invited into the conversation.

I've been to Ellis island once and i enjoyed it immensely.
Great place to get bit more into the life of the people of the time.

And because this hasn't exactly got anything to do with anything said before,

When my vacation at the all inclusive hotel was ending,
we were heading on a bus to the airport,
a woman complained "...and i had to raise my arm THREE times to get some wine, what kind of all inclusive was this supposed to be.."

What can i say?
I can understand that,
that kind of thing will seriously ruin ones two week holiday, doesn't it.
