Well, I'm not saying that she would go with Fleetwood Mac at all. But I know I like Sarah McLachlan's sound soooo much. And Stevie likes her too. So, she would be my choice. To me, she's not really exciting live, but when I think of her songs, I could so get into Lindsey performing on them. I moan with the possibilities there.

One problem. Joni and Christine are RETIRED. Both are basically done, save for little things on the side every few years, maybe. Look, there's no way in hell Sheryl Crow would be joining the band if Christine hadn't RETIRED. As for Debbie, Chrissie, and Patti, I don't think any of those would be good fits. They're too CBGBs (for lack of a better term), which is not a bad thing, but it would really be appropriate for Fleetwood Mac's needs. Mick and John are the wheels, Lindsey is the brains, Stevie is the mystique. What is needed is the unabashed pop writer. Christine was bubble gum at it's finest, and Sheryl is pretty darn good bubble gum, too.

Here's something to think about. How would most people feel about Christine being in Fleetwood Mac if all they knew of her was her 1984 album? That was a good album, but it had a feel that was pretty different from Fleetwood Mac. It's not a good representation as to how she sounds with Fleetwood Mac (which is really the whole point of a solo album). I could say the same about Lindsey and Stevie too. I think Sheryl deserves the benefit of the doubt on this.

I am curious - do you see the addition of another female as a conscious or de facto replacement for CM? Or, do you see it as a move in another direction with nothing to do with replacing CM though both play the keyboards and share the same gender?

I think they are not in any way trying to replace or be disrespectful to CM.

I also think the CM fans are having trouble making this distinction.

In the end, FM has always changed members. To me, this is no different.

Tone - respectful :D

I do see any new female joining FM as a replacement for Christine and I have said I am still in denial about her leaving in the first place!

I know FM has always changed members it's just that since I became a fan in 1973 Mick, John and Christine have always been there. To me, rightly or wrongly, this would be like getting a new bass player or drummer.

I actually wouldnt mind seeing Colbie 'fill in' for Christine.
Im sure she already knows the members of the band...her father being Ken and all.
And she has said that FM is an influence, and she would probably love to play with them.

I doubt if Christine would want to commit to a whole album. I can't imagine her giving up her life in Kent for a year in L.A.

I think the Earthquakes were only one of the reasons she left to come home. Her marriage had just broken up, she was fed up with the rock 'n roll lifestyle and I think she wanted to spend some more time with her brother.

She's pretty much retired now. If the collective will exists for the Rumours lineup to make some more music together then they will find a way. I just don't believe that the will exists.

So if Stevie needs a female friend along to make the tour happen then it looks like Sheryl Crow is it. I'm not sure there'll be room onstage though. 5 band members, 2 backing singers, 3 extra musicians, 1 extra percussionist and Lindsey's testosterone

I think the Earthquakes were only one of the reasons she left to come home. The band has an odd history of freaking out about earthquakes. Didn't they freak out about the 1971 Sylmar quake after arriving in Los Angeles? Stevie has mentioned being afraid of earthquakes a lot, & Mick has talked about it, too. Didn't he say at one point that he was moving to Hawaii partly because he was afraid of quakes? I laughed when I heard that: Hawaii is highly seismic.

Ditch Buckingham & Nicks...get Bob Welch, Billy Burnette & Martha Davis

Play the "House of Blues" sized venues. Fleetwood Mac is LONG past the days of arenas...the SYW tour was a joke being in venues that large. They had the right idea during The Dance tour to just do 8-12,000 seat amphitheatres...multiple nights in bigger cities. Nothing wrong with playing smaller venues...they NEED to regain the intimacy of their audience again. Fleetwood Mac has lost it's touch with their audience.

Oh...those who mentioned Pat Benatar...Neil Geraldo is part of the package, so if Pat joins, so does Neil. Sound familiar?

Get Robert Pollard and a lead guitarist. That whole 2 albums every ten years thing would become 10 albums every two years. The dude writes so much that there's really no need for anyone else. Of course, I'm not so sure having him in the same band with McVie would be good for McVie...

PS, if your curious, check out some of the samples from his solo and Guided By Voices albums on Amazon. Songs I'd recommend to Fleetwood Mac fans are Miles Under The Skin, Our Gaze, Hold On Hope, As We Up We Go Down, Game Of Pricks [Alien Lanes version], Closer You Are, Teenage F.B.I., Blessed In An Open Head, Glad Girls, Everyone Thinks I'm A Raincloud (When I'm Not Looking), Girls Of Wild Strawberry, and Love Is Stronger Than Witchcraft.

They wouldn't be able to fill a gas tank, let alone the House of Blues, with that line-up.

Fleetwood Mac is LONG past the days of arenas...the SYW tour was a joke being in venues that large. They had the right idea during The Dance tour to just do 8-12,000 seat amphitheatres...multiple nights in bigger cities.

Let's see... on the first and second legs of the SYW tour, they PACKED much, much larger arenas- for example, Corestates Center in Philly, AC Convention Center, Nassau Coliseum, Continental Airlines Arena, etc... and the list goes on. All of these venues were 14,000+ and were considered sold out. It wasn't until the third (and fourth?) legs where they weren't packing them in as much. Especially in the NY/NJ/PA area, it seems like they came back three or four times, so it was to be expected.

Nothing wrong with playing smaller venues...they NEED to regain the intimacy of their audience again. Fleetwood Mac has lost it's touch with their audience.

I don't think so. FM has always been about "Big Time Rock 'n Roll," just like the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, etc. They are one of the few remaining relics of the classic arena rock era, so it would be pathetic for a bunch of 60-year-olds to suddenly hit the club circuit. Let them go out with some dignity!

Thank God somebody has some sense around here! I saw FM 3 times on the SYW tour... they filled the 15,000 seat BiLo Center in Greenville, SC in 2003; They packed the 23,000 seat Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC in 2003; and I'm certain they did sell out the 19,000 seat Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte, NC in 2004. Just because some of y'all don't care for a Fleetwood Mac that contains Stevie Nicks and/or Lindsey Buckingham doesn't mean you can discount their selling power and popularity, or expect the rest of the world to be on board with ridiculous notions of bringing in obscure past members. For the past 33 years Fleetwood Mac has been defined by Buckingham and Nicks like it or not, for better or for worse. :sorry:

It's true. In 2003 they were one of the top-selling concert acts. It only went down in 2004, due largely to over-saturation of the market, not lack of interest by the fans. Casual fans just weren't willing to shell out $100 again to see the same show 9 months later; doesn't mean they aren't interested in FM.

Just because some of y'all don't care for a Fleetwood Mac that contains Stevie Nicks and/or Lindsey Buckingham doesn't mean you can discount their selling power and popularity,

Because it's not good music unless it sells well. Just ask Brit Spears. I'd rather have an amazing musical experience (go figure THAT'S what I want from a concert) in a club of 1000 than have a bland experience in a sold-out stadium. It's not the size of the crowd or venue, it's the quality of the music, of the experience. Fleetwood Mac has compromised that in the last third to half of their existance.

For the past 33 years Fleetwood Mac has been defined by Buckingham and Nicks like it or not, for better or for worse. :sorry:

WRONG!

Fleetwood Mac has been defined by Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. The only way it will be completely accepted as Fleetwood Mac is if Christine came back, and that isn't going to happen. So, let's have fun with it.

They sold out huge venues with Billy and Rick, too. It doesn't mean that people were oblivious to the obvious. It just meant that it was close enough to what they think of when they think of Fleetwood Mac. Which, is still Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, and Lindsey in the minds of "most".

But, is it art? Is it a worthy artistic statement? Or, is it just a big money grab? For me, the fact that there were more backing musicians than band members on stage suggests it was about the money. Trying to recreate songs as they sound on albums, especially one that is one of the top selling albums ever and was overplayed thirty years ago, is sad, if not pathetic. There was little true art there.

The SYW arena tour was a joke for the band, alright... they laughed all the way to the bank! As has been previously stated, the only shows that didn't sell well were the band's second and, most often, third trips to the market (such as the cancellation in Chicago, which would have been the fourth play in a years time).

Fleetwood Mac- as a creative force- is long dead and gone. That said, there's plenty of value and interest for many people- not just the people who only know the Greatest Hits- to see what is considered the "classic" lineup of Fleetwood Mac. If you don't like it, don't go.

Nobody- and, I do mean, NOBODY- wants to see the aforementioned proposed Fleetwood Mac lineup. LE/HOB wouldn't touch that tour with an eighty foot pole. Might as well borrow John Waite from the Ringo Starr "All-Starr Band", get a contest winner in each local city, and call the package "Mick Fleetwood's Macs". John & Martha could do a killer medley of "Missing You" & "Talk To Me", since they are basically the exact same song anyways. I'd totally go to my county fair for that.

The only person who I would except "joining" Fleetwood Mac is Colbie Cailait. She's a soft voiced piano player, who is Ken Cailaits daughter. Keep it in the family. And if they made an album bring daddy back to produce too.

Who needs some non-Mac, lite radio, stranger onstage with the legendary band. It's always been about chemistry - and this would wreck it.

For the next album, Stevie should be involved the whole way through, not just come in with a few songs and do vocals. John and Mick seemed much more engaged with the album.

It was a GREAT album, but seemed a little disconnected. If Stevie is really on board, they wouldn't need a more-current star. That's a sellout move, and I believe it would backfire, because people pay to see the band they love. Not some new version.

Just my HUMBLE opinion.

They sold out big arena's in 88 because the name was re-established by the works of LB who produced a new contemparary sounding Mac. His name has never been big in the eyes of the the crowd, so nobody was really aware that the creative force of the band was lacking. BTM did well, because Christine's great songwriterskills for singles. She could keep the legacy alive through "Save Me", a bland song, but still sounding vintage "Radio-Mac". But the ship was sinking. When Stevie left nothing was left. Not that she had delivered ANYTHING wothwhile for years, The crowd couldn't live with a Mac without Nicks. I won't say much negative things about the Time line-up, but they just chose the wrong direction by trying to copy Ther rumours line-up in concert.

Art? Lindseys contributions to SYW were alone more art than the whole production of the band since 88.

I agree on the artistic level of the liveconcerts. That reproductionapproach is not my style either, but it's done quite impressive and with ooomph. I saw four SYWshows, and the weren't lackluster at all, although very overperfected. But let's be fair: lindsey rocked it with a pleasure that was felt all over the arena.

Who needs some non-Mac, lite radio, stranger onstage with the legendary band. It's always been about chemistry - and this would wreck it.

Apparently Stevie. But, it's hard to argue that Sheryl Crow is a stranger. The band chose HER to do the induction speech, and she has since worked and toured with Stevie and has done some work with Fleetwood Mac. Hardly a stranger.

They sold out big arena's in 88 because the name was re-established by the works of LB who produced a new contemparary sounding Mac.

That's not at all accurate. Stevie Nicks was still a big name in her own right during the Tango days, and Christine's songs were all over the radio (moreso than Lindsey's or Stevie's). Yeah, Lindsey produced the album well enough. But that's not why people bought the album. The band was all over the radio and MTV in 1987, and Lindsey's quitting the band probably did more to generate even more interest in the band than any of his actual music or production.

Plus, the Fleetwood Mac brand still meant something, although it was beginning to slip. The problem I see with that album is that Christine and Stevie had fairly bland songs on the album and they somehow chose to use the blander stuff from the new guys. It's the era of what could have been.

No arguements there, though I have to point out that it wasn't just a Billy Burnette-era Fleetwood Mac thing. Combined Time, Cradle, and Street Angel didn't sell 400,000 albums.

Eh, I'll reserve judgement on that. Considering the last studio album Lindsey was significantly involved in had been released ELEVEN years earlier, it should have been good. If I spent eleven years overthinking an album, it would probably be a major artistic statement, too. This is why I tend to be a fan of guys like Robert Pollard who release a lot of great music every year. Bob's a big exception to just about any rule, but last year alone he released an album full of unreleased demos from the pre-Guided By Voices days, an album full of his stage banter (funny stuff), an EP, a "best of" package for the Fading Captain Series (which was a series of Bob's side projects), and four full-length albums. Bob also released a magazine of his collages (many of which have been used for album covers). Now, it's hit or miss with Bob, but he probably releases one or two albums worth of great music EVERY year.

The only pleasure I really got was from listening to John McVie, who was the only one that didn't have at least two others covering his parts. The overperfected/reproduction thing, along with the same canned speeches night after night just killed it for me, and I saw three variations on the set the three times I saw them.

A remote interest in indy rock has all but killed any enthusiasm I've felt for this band. Worse yet, it has caused more in the way of frustration in that they COULD be an amazing band on their own if they'd throw a little caution to the wind. But playing it safe and spouting off psychobabble bores me to tears.

what other female would you want to join up with them.

To me, only one woman could join the mix: Iris Dement.

I also pine for Johnny Marr and/or Bernard Sumner to join.

The only woman to me who could join is Sandy Stewart. She's a great keyboardist/pianist, good back up singer and virtually unknown. Plus she's a friend of Stevie's. IMO perfect for the job.
