do you have iTunes? I have that song on a radio CD single...so it's superb quality. I can put it up here for you, but it would be in that stupid iTunes format...not sure how to convert it from CD to mp3...

Actually the entire concert did get released on CD. However the "The Dance" CD didn't include the entire concert. The songs that didn't make the album were all released as b-sides to various singles from the album.

I too have wondered why they did that. That song, along with SS and Rhiannon are the highlights of that show, so why it never made it to the CD, who knows. I know I was disappointed when it came out that GDW was not on it.
I think Temporary One could have been taken off, but that is JMHO.

Eh, I guess you are right, but I just don't care for that song. (Temp. One I mean)
I don't know if it was just a space issue or what, but I still think there could be another song left off instead of GDW.

http://www.mediafire.com/?j1vyo0tnr4lYes, thanks. This whole GDW thing is a real mystery to me. The band seems to have such a bias against it. I still do not have any FM live performances of that song...not even one (the above will be my first, but it's from recent years...I know she did it for her solo concerts, but no Mac versions seem to exist), and I would really like to have a good live version from the Rumours, Tusk, or Mirage era, but it doesn't seem to exist. I don't get it. And I haven't got one single demo of it either. So, I'm just wondered why this is such an elusive song. Does anyone know? And if anyone has any good quality demos or lives, I would highly appreciate it if you could post them. I also love the Bob Welch & Friends Live Roxy version. Does anyone have that? Anything? Thanks! :)

There are a handful of FM versions of GDW from the Rumours tour, I believe. I downloaded one of the shows up for grabs over at on the Rumours forum, Philly 1977, Stevie does this really high-pitched wail at the end of the song, pretty crazy. I can't figure out how to only upload the song from the zip file, but if you go back a few months on the Rumours forum, there's a whole thread of live shows and I'm willing to bet GDW shows up on a few of them!

As for The Dance, what single did Songbird appear on? I know the Silver Springs sing I have has Go Insane, Over My Head and GDW but that is all I can account for.

i agree. The Dance version is probably the best version I've ever heard...other than the Rumours one.

I don't like it either, but Sweet Girl is not exactly a favorite for that matter. The 2 gals scared me with their 1997 offerings. Thought the mojo was gone. Even so, I think Temporary One is a good song for the funeral post in another program though. I have used some of the words in a funeral program: "The river goes on and on, and the sea that divides us is a temporary one, and the bridge will bring us back together."
GDW is not my favorite Stevie song, but I do think that it remains fresh in concerts to this day in a way that Dreams and Rhiannon have not, for me.

Well, I think I am correct in saying that GDW was not played on Tusk or the Mirage Tours, so you won't find any of those. It was played on the Rumours Tour, as well as the Tango/Shake the Cage, Behind the Mask, Dance, and SYW tours. I would agree with the comment that was made that the Dance version might well be the best live version of the song that I have heard from any era. That Manchester 1990 version ("take your silver springs and dig your grave") is probably a close second - hated most of Stevie's performances on that tour, but that one has always been one I enjoyed.

Thanks bucklind. I have a couple of those shows, and GDW is not included, so I gave up, because I figured they were probably doing the same set list for the entire tour. And of course, I only downloaded soundboards. I usually don't like the audio quality of the others, so I haven't tried Philly. I guess I should download a few more. I think they may have done GDW for at least one of the Japan shows, but I don't know about the audio quality of those.
Well, I think I am correct in saying that GDW was not played on Tusk or the Mirage Tours, so you won't find any of those. It was played on the Rumours TourI sort of figured they probably never did it on the Tusk or Mirage tour. I was just grasping at straws. :D
I would agree with the comment that was made that the Dance version might well be the best live version of the song that I have heard from any era.I still favor the Bob Welch Live version by a long shot, which included several of the FM members. Maybe it's not pure FM, but it's fabulous. It was done around 1981, I think, so it's sort of like a between Tusk and Mirage tour version. ;) As much as I love FM, I lived it back in the day, and I have a harder time accepting their current sound. I still love them just as much, but it's just not the same for me. I still crave the original sound.
