I forgot to add that Tina Turner and Cher looked GREAT! And congrats to Amy Winehouse for winning 3 Grammys!

I'm watching. This is the best Grammys awards show I've seen in a very long time. I'm really impressed with everyone's performances (except Kid Rock, who just botched the beginning of that duet) - I like the no host format and that they're in the Staples Center and can do these huge productions.

Amy's won 3 awards so far - one was for either R & B album or song, not televised, I noticed it at the bottom of the screen just before the first commercial break. I hope she sweeps every category she's nominated in!

Gotta go watch my girl Alicia....

Hey Livia..

I thought so too! Even the gospel numbers were great with Aretha, and cool about Amy!! Alicia was awesome too! I'm still in awe about how wonderful Tina looked! How old is she again?? Holy Moly!! I want to look just as half as good as she does!! Geez..:blob2:

well, hopefully she'll get completely clean, record a new album in the future and be able to be here to receive it in person. i believe the u.s. granted her a visa to come here -- i just think coming over here probably wasn't the healthiest thing for her to do.

i thought the same thing. i'm not a big fan of hers, but i'm still pulling for her.

i watched off and on tonight, and my only big WTF (aside from that stupid will.i.am performance) was carrie motherf*cking underwood beating trisha yearwood for best country vocal performance. that is CRIMINAL.

When was the last time someone said in their acceptance speech "and to my Blake who is incarcerated"?

You can't argue that she has talent and an incredible stage presence. Hopefully she will get the help she needs.

did you also notice her changing song lyrics to include his name, etc? i mean, as much as i would hope when he's out of jail that he'll straighten out, probably the best thing for each of them is to not be a part of one another's lives simply based on past history and the fact that there seemingly is a lot of turmoil in their relationship. they enabled each other.

i hope she stays clean.

tina melted mine. i want to be that old and move like that. seriously. fierce. beyonce annoys the hell out of me. i loved how before she bought out tina, her entire performance was lip sync city.

also, i'm in love with the foo fighters (FEBRUARY 21ST, BABY!!!) and brian (the guy who was up for a chance to play with them) is a local dude so i was kind of rooting for him.

so true. she looks and sounds amazing. did you like her outfit and nipple city?

I guess I just expected...ehhh, more. we've already seen Beyonce do Proud Mary at the Kennedy City Honors and we've seen Tina do it a zillion times. I guess it was the most logical choice, but it just fell a little flat.
her entire performance was lip sync city.

I was pretty impressed with her performance last night, along with a few others (hello Morris Day and the mutha****in TIME). Like you all said, judging by the look on Winehouse's face when she won record of the year, I think this might be the kick in the ass she needs.

Loved the Beatles tribute. Loved Vince Gill and his little joke to Kanye about a Beatle giving ME an award. lol LOVED Cher and Tina Turner is the best!! She has the talent that most of those new kids wish they had. Loved Tina and Beyonce singing together. Would love to see more of the older musicians/singers on these types of shows instead of all these newbies of the last few years. I don't care about Amy Winehouse and pretty tired of hearing about her. I don't think she deserved that many nominees and she doesn't have that much talent. I guess if you're in rehab and a very troubled person, it will bring you more fame than you deserve. At least her parents were by her side.

It definitely was a bit better this year than in past years.

I watched until 9:30 p.m. & I taped the rest which I'll probably watch tonight, but the highlight was for me was Tina & Beyonce. I'm not really a Beyonce fan, more a Tina fan, but I thought they both did an excellent job. I went looking for a list of winners & was glad that Maroon 5 got an award. I was also pleasantly surprised to see this:

Beyonce looks BEAUUUTIFUL!!! She is gorgeous!!

And Tina looks reaaally great! Yes at her 68 she looks so young..
But she doesn't move like in her 30s or 20s.. I've seen videos of old shows, she is a bit slower. It's like comparing Rhiannon this decade with the 70s. But still. she performs great!! I adoore her!

I have to agree with you here.. it actually doesn't. Some of my favorites didn't get their "album award" either.. as I LOVE Daughtry.. nothing.. I agree, as I think true musicians aren't out to seek the awards.. I think the awards just come to those people!;)

I'm sure some artists think that way. Others think selling huge numbers makes their album great. Others think that if their fans like it & they themselves are happy with it, that makes it great.

I watch the Grammy's (on DVR so I can fast forward through all the bull**** :D ) to see the live performances. I thought it was a really good mix of music from several different genres, but nothing was all that spectacular. The last time something actually blew me away was when U2 & MJ Blige did "One" a few years back. Was that even the Grammy's? Maybe not. Anyway.....

Which is usually about 98% of the show.

I think they should show some of the other categories winners get their awards...it is an AWARD Show after all, not a PERFORMANCE show ...

Best Contemporary Blues Album: Eric Clapton & JJ Cale - "Road To Escondido"
Best Short Form Video Album: Johnny Cash - "God's Gonna Cut You Down"
Best Classical Crossover Album: Turtle Island Quartet - "A Love Supreme: The Legacy Of John Coltrane"
Best Chamber Music Performance: Eighth Blackbird - "Strange Imaginary Animals"
Best Surround Sound Album: The Beatles - "Love" (George Martin & Giles Martin, producers; Paul Hicks, surround mix engineer; Tim Young, surround mastering engineer)
Best Historical Album: Woody Guthrie - "The Live Wire: Woody Guthrie In Performance 1949"
Best Instrumental Arrangement: Joe Zawinul - "In A Silent Way" (Vince Mendoza, arranger)
Best Spoken Word Album: Barack Obama - "The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts On Reclaiming The American Dream"
Best Polka Album: Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra - "Come Share The Wine"
Best Reggae Album: Stephen Marley (would they give this award to anybody with any OTHER last name?) - "Mind Control"
Best Traditional Folk Album: Levon Helm - "Dirt Farmer"
Best Traditional Blues Album: Henry Townsend, Pinetop Perkins, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Honeyboy Edwards - "The Last Of The Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, Live In Dallas"
Best Rock Song: Bruce Springsteen - "Radio Nowhere"
Best Rock Instrumental Performance: Bruce Springsteen - "Once Upon A Time In The West" (From the Tribute to Ennio Morricone album)
Best Pop Collaboration with vocals: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - "Gone Gone Gone"
