Amazon is listing the DVD with a March 11 release. No details regarding any possible extras.

Excellent! That's not too far away. Maybe he'll use it as promotion for the next album so that'll also be released not too long after (yeah, right...). Hopefully all the missing songs from the HDNet showing will be put back in.

EDIT: Amazon.co.uk has it listed as "Live at the Bass Performance Hall (W/Dvd)" so is it perhaps going to be a CD/DVD set?

Still no idea what is going to happen to the documentary that was shot during the making of UTS - would make a perfect bonus feature here. (yeahrights with Peestie...)

I'd rather it was replaced in the original place in the show. I didn't like how SYHA and IAW were tagged on the end of the Soundstage show.

Wow, this is exciting news.

Um, I don't believe anyone in the FM band believes in DVD extras. They did a scientific study and found that their fans don't want or need anything extra, so the DVD will likely contain only the HDnet broadcast and nothing more.

Actually....

Consider this (in terms of staying in the public eye)...

2003-2004 Say You Will Tour
2005 Soundstage
2006 Release of UTS, Crossroads, Craig Ferguson, Conan O'Brien, Where ? Meets Film (can't remember the title)
2006-2007 UTS Tour
2007 Ellen, Fashion Rocks with Carrie Underwood
2007-2008 Questions and Answers on YouTube
2008 - Release of the Bass performance

I am sure that I've misssed something...but the guy seems busy...and has a marketing program in place.

[On edit -- Add World Cafe, and Rockline and the interview with Matt Pinfield]
Thanks for the PM's.

Good to hear about the bonus footage, but what happened to "Turn it on"? I thought it came off pretty good live, but maybe not the first few nights  Hopefully an unmentioned extra.....

Lindsey Buckingham to Release Live DVD March 25, 2008

"Live at the Bass Performance Hall" Captures Electric Spirit of Singer, Songwriter, and Guitarist's First U.S. Solo Tour in 14 Years

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - February 5, 2008) - Lindsey Buckingham will release a live DVD, the first ever of his 27-year career as a solo artist, titled "Live at the Bass Performance Hall," on March 25, 2008. Shot at the Bass Performance Hall in Forth Worth, TX, on January 27th, 2007, the performance captures the innovative, tightly orchestrated minimalism that characterized the acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist's first U.S. solo tour in nearly 14 years.

The DVD finds Buckingham, joined by his three-piece band, transitioning easily on stage between his solo back catalog ("Trouble," "Go Insane," and "Holiday Road") and electrifying versions of his hits with Fleetwood Mac ("Tusk," "Second Hand News," "Go Your Own Way"). The show also features performances of six cuts from Buckingham's latest album, the intricately crafted, acoustic-guitar driven "Under The Skin," including "Not Too Late," "Show You How," and "Shut Us Down."

Buckingham's "Under the Skin" tour, which took place over 2006-2007, was enthusiastically received by critics. The New York Times praised the artist's appearance at New York's Town Hall, saying that, "the strength of Buckingham's songs, his singing and guitar playing, and his strange intensity as a performer carried the evening," while "his stamina kept the music's energy fresh and volatile." The Chicago Tribune called Buckingham "an enigmatic rock'n'roll icon" whose tour is "worth the wait."

The "Live at the Bass Performance Hall" DVD package also includes the documentary "Not Too Late" -- which consists of more than 45 minutes of exclusive, behind the scenes bonus footage shot and produced by Lindsey Buckingham himself -- as well as, an audio CD with the same track-listing as the DVD minus "Tusk."

The complete track-listing for the DVD is as follows:

Not Too Late
Trouble
Never Goin Back
Second Hand News
Castaway Dreams
It Was You
Big Love
Go Insane
Under The Skin
So Afraid
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Tusk
Go Your Own Way
Holiday Road
Show You How
Shut Us Down

Plus bonus documentary "Not Too Late"

Hey Tulsa Mini

Thanks for tracking down the info on the new DVD/CD. I am intrigued by the Not Too Late Documentary...and LOVE that the CD will accompany the DVD.

Seeing the Soundstage performance was wonderful, but HEARING it (Thank you Madness Fades) brought so much more energy and love for the songs (to me anyhow.) It's hard to describe...

So....to have the Bass Hall Performance to watch and a separate CD to hear, are, for me, a big morale booster... (Cuz, the CD will be able to travel in the car with me ;) )

SO excited for the documentary footage!

But since he shot it himself, I hope that doesn't mean that he's not in it. I don't want to see 45 minutes of Neale and Brett. Well, I guess Lindsey's in it. I think he shot the videos for his UTS songs himself too. Warner Bros. probably wouldn't cough up any dough for professional videos, poor devil. Still, it's good to know his kids got their money's worth out of that camcorder he got for Father's Day:laugh:.

He may have filmed the Q & A sessions himself too.

I was making fun of FM not putting extra goodies on their multimedia products, but Lindsey has kind of kept up with the times, with his Myspace page and all. I do think baby steps are being taken to widen his exposure and it's great.

I really don't care what his POV of Neale and Brett is.

Of course, if his kids are in it, that would be fun to see.

Now, with Show You How, I was incredibly interested in the FM pictures he chose to use in the video. Sitting there trying to slowly navigate through each frame was quite fascinating.

Well, being serious now, I did think he could have told us what she thought if he wanted to. He told us what she said about Flying Down Juniper -- which I don't even think sounds as good as The Love Boat. But I have to say I felt different about the song after that. I didn't like it, but as long as I knew that Lindsey knew that a lot of people thought it a little sappy (sounds like in addition to Kristin, other people told him to leave it off the album) and he made a conscious effort to put it on there anyway, then I was perfectly happy.

I dunno. I've heard some stories about her being .. ugly .. even when the kids weren't around. I won't judge her, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel like she looks like a bitch. In the eyes. Just my impressions based on the photos. I don't really care. They're a good looking couple and have good looking kids... he lets her spend his money and he probably gets what he wants in return, so it doesn't really matter.

Sad to read some rather negative comments about Kristen on here...I've been out of the loop a bit with all of that, has she not been keeping a low profile with his fans? Maybe she dosn't want to get in his way and comes over a bit distant because of that...I dunno, or has she been in their faces?
Perhaps someone can enlighten me. I think she's had a bit of a positive effect on him to be honest and it's a good one..at least he's out there a bit more and I'm sure it's thanks to her ( at least a little bit)

This info has already been posted but I know you guys like to see the promotional side of Lindsey so here's the ditty from Billboard Magazine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is following up his 2006 solo set, "Under the Skin," with "Live at the Bass Performance Hall," due March 25 via Reprise. The CD/DVD package includes 15 tracks gathered from a January 2007 performance at the Ft. Worth, Texas, concert hall and features tracks from "Under the Skin" as well as tracks from Fleetwood Mac's back catalog.

Of the latter, Buckingham tackles songs like "Never Goin Back," "Big Love" and "Go Your Own Way," and is backed by a four-piece band. The DVD also includes 45 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage.

"Under the Skin" was Buckingham's first solo album since 1992's "Out of the Cradle."

I was thinking about this. I was thinking that as the tour went on I was getting tired of his barking. But then I thought, "Well, that's Lindsey and you should be happy he still has and nourishes that side of himself." Also, as the tour went on Lindsey became more Lindsey. He used to come out and quietly walk to the mic and start singing so quickly I would say, "Why is that guitar tech saying 'reading the paper, saw a review?'" And he'd stay quiet throughout the song. But by the end of the tour, he was screaming at the conclusion of Not Too Late. And I just had to laugh, because that's how he is.

It's like the Law and Order cover. Handsome man, but generic hunk. Who the heck is he? Cover of Go Insane? That's Lindsey and no one else! I can't live without the signature eccentricities.

So true. My brother is a casual fan of Lindsey's and loves his work especially with FM, but some of the solo stuff too. For me, the weirder the better, so I'll be so excited to play him something that I think is awesome and he'll just be like "you really do have a thing for the weird stuff, don't you?" I remember the first time I played him "Gifts of Screws" and he just sat there wide eyed and I was all dancing to the left, to the right, up and down, etc. I have a thread on the Rumours forum going about Live in Boston, but one of my favorite things about that DVD having spent some time with it is how Lindsey is a bit more uninhibited than I was used to seeing him and how fun, entertaining and exciting that is. The eccentricities are what make him even more intriguing to me, hence why live versions and demos of songs get more play than the polished versions that he spends so much time perfecting.

But by the end of the tour, he was screaming at the conclusion of Not Too Late. And I just had to laugh, because that's how he is....

That's Lindsey and no one else! I can't live without the signature eccentricities...

You know what I would LOVE to see....or even hear for that matter....the show where he got pissed at the Turner and smashed it to smithereens...

Oh yeah, that's one thing about The Dance dvd (although it's one of my Top 5 FM items of all time) is that Lindsey is being relatively formal. Once they went on The Dance tour itself, he was much looser and running around everywhere, but the DVD doesn't capture the more wild part. Michele

I was at that show!!! OMG!! The memories...It was friggen' amazing to see him in such a fit of wild animal rage. I took my mom and she thought that was how he was at all the shows. It was pretty incredible.

The saddest part? I actually had over 100 pics + video (including that moment) from that night and then my camera was stolen the next day at Penn Station. :distress: Atleast I got to experience it.

Buckingham said that the scaled-back sound of Under the Skin made putting a setlist together harder than its ever been for him as a solo act.

"There needed to be a strong nod paid to the tone of this album, and it was not easy figuring out how to do that, you know, because you still have to play some of those songs that people want to hear, and you still have to make a show that has an arc, and is exciting for you -- and for everyone else, hopefully."

My husband did and got may 24th as delivery date ...I'm not sure exactly what it is with Amazon and dates. I am a big Stereophonics fan(theyre a rock group from Wales, thats them in my sig pic) and their latest album, Pull The Pin, was released in Europe back on October 15. I ordered it Immideately on Amazon, but kept recieving messages FOR OVER 4 WEEKS that there were various delays. A fellow fan I correspond with in Ireland finally sent me the Album over the internet and I have it. I wanted to pay for it though! Now in my case the cd hasnt been released here in the United States yet, so that may have something to do with all of those delays. I feel for those of you that keep getting these delay messages! I know how frustrating it can be.

Lindsey Buckingham, "Live at The Bass Performance Hall," (Reprise) 4 stars.

Somehow Lindsey Buckingham managed to do the impossible, which was to be generally underrated while playing in one of the most popular bands in the world.

That band, Fleetwood Mac, put Buckingham on the map, but it's his far-too-infrequent solo endeavors that have featured some of the best music of his life.

The incredibly gifted guitarist, songwriter and singer is spotlighted on this, his first live solo DVD, which was filmed in Fort Worth, Texas, during his first U.S. solo tour in nearly 14 years.

As one might expect, the musicianship is impeccable, with Buckingham fronting an understated three-piece ensemble while spinning through 17 songs from his solo career as well as from his days with Fleetwood Mac.

Six songs are from his latest solo disc "Under the Skin," including quiet standouts like "Not Too Late," and the shimmering, harmony-backed full-band workout "Castaway Dreams." He also offers some intriguing reinterpretations of his own vintage work, like the decidedly-different versions of "Go Insane," and Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk," and "Go Your Own Way." In addition, he shows his passionate vocal style and stunning acoustic guitar work in a torrid take of "Big Love," while blazing away with equal intensity of several electric numbers, such as "So Afraid," which starts mildly before building toward an explosive ending.

Rating Scale: One Star (poor) to Five Stars (a classic)

Buckingham goes his own way in fine form
http://www.star-telegram.com/408/story/546088.html

By ANDREW MARTON
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Watching Lindsey Buckingham's first solo concert DVD, Live at the Bass Performance Hall, you reach the conclusion that the essence of his former band Fleetwood Mac was not Stevie Nicks' witchy-woman stylings, Christine McVie's blues-tinged singing, or even the granite back-beat of drummer, Mick Fleetwood and bassist, John McVie, but Buckingham's pioneering guitar work.

Released today, this concert DVD offers all 16 songs from Buckingham's Jan. 27, 2007 performance at Bass Hall, the Fort Worth stop on the guitarist-singer-songwriter's first extended U.S. solo tour in almost 14 years.

Whether on a nylon-string classical guitar, a steel-string acoustic or his trademark acoustic-electric guitar, Buckingham eschews the standard pick in favor of all five fingers of his right hand. There are close-ups of Buckingham's hands as they nimbly perform his distinctive guitar calisthenics.

All this intricate guitar work cocoons Buckingham's equally original vocals. Whether it's on the six cuts from the 2006 CD, Under the Skin, or songs dredged from his early solo period (the country-shuffle Holiday Road, Go Insane, Trouble) or, even further back, from the Fleetwood Mac catalog (Second Hand News,I'm So Afraid, Go Your Own Way, and Tusk), Buckingham's voice is in fine form.

As he moves from barely whispered verses to primal-scream choruses, you are reminded of how enigmatic and avant-garde he remains.

Hardly a Mr. Entertainment when it comes to amiable stage patter, Buckingham, helped by his backing trio, hits the concert's high points with the protracted guitar jams at the end of Fleetwood Mac's I'm So Afraid and Go Your Own Way. On each, Buckingham's left hand explores the outer limits of the fret-board while his right index finger flicks out one serrated note after another. Each solo ends with Buckingham in full mad-scientist mode, head thrown back, mouth agape, as he bangs his fists on the guitar.

The Bass Hall's crisp acoustics enhance the singer's embroidered harmonies, and the proximity of the stage to the audience creates an intimacy that he clearly relishes.

Buckingham seems so at home at the Bass that when he delivers the by-now-requisite "see ya next time" farewell, you believe he will make a return trip to Cowtown.

I thought about this when both Tom Petty (also with Tony) and Lindsey were touring at the same time and now after watching the DVD I'm thinking about it again: I hope Tony loves and admires Lindsey and just wants to remain his manager because of their many years together. I'd like to think that he'll always be there, working hard to shop Lindsey around, no matter what and that he won't ever bail if there comes a point in time when Lindsey can no longer make money through FM. I hope Lindsey's has strong musical connections that aren't based on his marketability.

Lindsey Buckingham's semi-solo DVD has ups and downs but seems tired

Ron Harris, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published Wednesday March 26th, 2008

"Live at the Bass Performance Hall"

Lindsey Buckingham (Reprise)

From the first song featuring a marathon of arpeggios, singer/songwriter Lindsey Buckingham assures viewers of his first live performance DVD, "Live at Bass Performance Hall," that he's still got the goods with a guitar in his hands.

But that's not saying much. Buckingham could thrill you with fancy fret work in his sleep. He's that good. It's the rest of the package - stage presence, voice and delivery - that Buckingham must deliver with confidence to really win us over.

And he fails, not miserably but poignantly, as many fading superstars from other eras do.

The man who breathed excellence into Fleetwood Mac so many hits ago begins well, opening with a haunting and heartfelt solo version of "Not Too Late." The camera loves him appropriately, giving us close-ups of his flying fingers and well-composed angles of him singing under the spotlight.

He follows that up too with a sizzling take on "Trouble," a rendition wiped clean of the FM radio sheen that dominated much of his early work with and without the Fleetwood Mac collective. The song sounds more relevant without other instruments in his way.

But his musical artistry gives way to fatigue halfway through the set. He gives up on some vocal high notes that he doesn't have the energy to reach on important songs, like "Go Your Own Way," a moment that should have been a high point but instead the left the audience at Bass Performance Hall fairly listless.

Buckingham has earned his fatigue but it's still sad to see on display.

If it's any consolation, he still looks good at the front of the stage clad in jeans and a simple leather jacket. He goes through many equipment changes throughout the performance, and wields some gorgeous instruments from Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Renaissance Guitars, as opposed to the traditional acoustics. Guitar aficionados will eat this up with glee, even when Buckingham's voice wilts.

Interesting. That's just what I heard from everyone who attended: that GYOW was fairly listless. Not.

Lindsey could have gone onstage and shot someone in the face, he could have set his guitar and the entire Bass Hall on fire...that audience wouldn't have budged. They were THAT dead. I'm NOT kidding. It wasn't on the DVD, but before GYOW, Lindsey was looking up into the balcony and saying "Get up!" and I remember turning around the throwing my hands up and going "GET UP!" too.

It was sad really. I HATE seeing concerts in North Texas...they suck. Lindsey was amazing that night...the audience was horrid. :distress: When you have a big vortex of suck, it's hard to get in the mood.

If he'd recorded the DVD in another city where the audience was amazing....it would have been 100 times better. The crowd makes a difference.

Christy- The audience wasn't into it? WTF???? Most of the shows that I had gone too, the audiences were REALLY into it! It surprises me that the Texas show was picked for the filming, kind of takes away the thrill, at least for those of you who went to that show.

Overall, I just LOVED the dvd, it's Lindsey, what's NOT to love! lol

My favorite was the documentary, that was just so up close and personal, I could watch that over and over again. :D

The audience was into it, but they weren't standing up, freaking out into it which is what you expect at a rock show. I will say that Bass Hall is one of those places that doesn't seem conducive to the "rock show" etiquette. Don't get me wrong, I love Bass Hall and it was a brilliant choice sound wise but that's the first rock show I have ever been to there. I mostly see theatre, symphony and ballet. People go to Bass wearing dresses and suits. There were actually people super dressed up for Lindsey's show. It's almost like people didn't know what to do. Also, I think with everyone knowing that they were filming the show, they didn't want to get up.

Then skip Go Your Own Way. That just underlines your opinion, that I don't agree with by the way. On the other hand: this show doesn't have the same energylevel as some of the third leg shows AFTER this one. There's camera's here and he tries so get into "control"-mode. Not the state that fits him these days. I've heard better versions of these songs because he just let's himself go into those versions. Then he doesn't sing and play technically perfect, but alot more convincing.

Review by Thom Jurek

This double-disc package by Lindsey Buckingham, guitarist, songwriter, producer, and principal musical architect of Fleetwood Mac's multi-platinum-selling sound, contains a live DVD of concert performances with a bonus documentary, plus a CD that includes all but one of the performances on the DVD. The material ranges from tunes on his last solo album, the brilliant Under the Skin, as well as Fleetwood Mac nuggets, and a choice track or two from his other solo offerings. His band features second guitarist Neale Heywood, drummer Takuya "Taku" Hirano, and bassist/keyboardist Brett Tuggle. Lindsay Vannoy plays additional keyboards on some cuts. Things begin quietly enough with "Not to Late," the opener from Under the Skin, followed by "Trouble" from 1981's Law and Order. These are stark and deeply emotive performances. They are not accompanied, but Buckingham's custom designed electro-acoustic guitar is front and center with that stunning voice of his. "Never Going Back Again," from the Mac's Rumours follows this and it too is played solo. This is a deeply personal and moving performance of this song. Things remain in familiar territory with a full band performance of "Second Hand News," but it needs to be stated that without those trademark Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie backing vocals, it's a bit stark and half-baked. When Buckingham goes back to playing his solo material, the passion returns in spades. "Cast Away Dreams" drifts in to the heart of the listener and hangs there, revealing the brokenness in its lyric. This follows in the sprightly, rhythmic "It Was You." The way the back and forth vocals work, staggered slightly and tightly arranged, is as sophisticated as pop/rock gets. Mac fans get fine readings of "Big Love," and "Go Your Own Way," (and on the DVD they get "Tusk" as well). But what Buckingham is trying to show on this excellent set is that he's an artisan in his own right and always has been. His solo written material is as fine as anything he wrote for the band. In fact, one becomes aware of just how deep and wide his talents as a writer, performer, and arranger go on his own. If anything, Live at the Bass Performance Hall is a stellar introduction to a man who has been in our midst for more than three decades, and has been all but ignored as an artist in his own right. This excellent set will hopefully go some way toward righting that wrong.

4 Stars

For those that have seen it already - when he's talking on the phone with presumably his manager about signing to a label and shopping the album around and all the rejections he seemed to be getting, I'm assuming this was ahead of and for the release for Under The Skin - before he ended up settling with Reprise right?

I mentioned it before, they should have filmed one of the concerts with general admission standing in front of the stage instead of seating. I went to the concert in Falls Church (I think it was the third show on the tour) and it was open in front of the stage and everyone was packed right up to the stage like at a normal rock show and it was awesome, people moving around, getting into the music, etc. Went to the show a couple of months later in Baltimore and they had reserved seating in front of the stage and the audience was dead, sitting there snacking silently on chicken fingers and stuff like they were at a movie or something. The performance was great but it was definitely one of the lamest shows I've ever been to. If the artist can stand, so can the audience.

That' what confused me - remember what he JUST said about being free... It appears even after he settled with Reprise, the deal never ended up getting any sweeter, since in that first phone call it sounded like Reprise was willing to sign him, but they weren't going to do anything for him - and again I'm assuming that's promotional wise... Cause if that's what he/they were talking about, they sure stuck to the deal by not really doing anything for him, promotional wise (in a big way).

Perhaps this is what we should be "flooding" his Q & A emails with. If Lindsey does tour again, I think he should know how much his songs on "Cradle" mean to all of us and how wonderful it would be to hear more of them live. Not only that, more L & O obscure stuff, like Bwana or Mary Lee Jones. And I'm not kidding when I say that I'd absolutely die to hear "Go Insane" stuff played somewhat the way it does on record. I am smitten with the acoustic versions of this and that, love them, but I'm crazy for the way songs like I Want You, I Must Go, and Slow Dancing sound the way they are- and it would be incredible to see him play those as well.

I know I've drifted somewhat away from your original point, but now that there is a possibility of a new album/new tour I'd like to throw my wishes out there in hopes.

Lindsey Buckingham — “Live At The Bass Performance Hall” (Warner Bros.): One of the most underrated guitarists and songwriters of any generation, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham churns out well-written nuggets of deceptively complicated rock like almost none of his peers. Buckingham’s work has generated countless hit singles, but also countless efforts that influenced future generations. He’s helmed the catchy “Go Your Own Way,” but he’s also the mastermind behind what most people consider the first intentional lo-fi album, “Tusk.”

On “Live At The Bass Performance Hall,” a CD/DVD package, we get to see all sides of Buckingman, and, man, is it a good ride. We see the guitarist Fleetwood Mac gems like “Go Your Own Way,” “Second Hand News,” “Never Going Back” and “Big Love,” but we also get a big chunk of the songwriter’s critically acclaimed 2006 disc “Under the Skin.” And not to be missed is a couple of his better-known solo works like “Go Insane” and the classic “Holiday Road.”

The sound on this live set is crisp and clear, and the DVD looks great. This is a great set for anybody who loves Buckingham, but it’s also the best introduction to the underappreciated artist out there. It’s perfect for huge fans and eager music lovers who want to discover something great they may have missed.

William: I'm dad, im in charge of the studio

Lee Lee: I'm in charge of the kitty

That was documentary gold, then we get:

Lindsey: Rock N Roll Harnessed faceless entity hemming us in, media, no spotinaity, nurture, life's not a straight line blah blah ****ing blah. The camera man should've told Lindsey he was being filmed making these boring speeches and just had the camera off and followed the kids around the whole time and release that. The concert was just, okay. I've seen better. Hawkeye, that doc was psychotic but what makes you think Lindsey needs to be told anything by some "cameraman?" Who do you think filmed this anyway? Peter Bogdonavich? LOL! Lindsey knows exactly how he appears on camera since this thing is his own creation...in every way. He is trying to convey something about the state of the music business and make everyone think he's just poor poor pitiful LB who can't get a record deal anymore. LOL!

Only semi-interesting shots were those where he was sitting in his studio, leaning forward so that 70s Lindsey from the framed picture up on the wall looked like he was sitting on present-day-lost-in-thought Lindsey's shoulder. I just watched the Not Too Late documentary.

With regards to the rejection phone calls, when I read Ledgie reviews, I thought Mr. B. was talking about the new album...(2008 product)

After seeing the rejections (phone calls etc.), I think he was showing us how freaking hard it was to get 2006's UTS accepted and out on the shelves. The bottom line is money and music execs are more conservative with backing.

I count myself damn lucky to have the CD and to have been to the concerts. Getting to that point, must have been a struggle for the man & the artist.

Did anyone else interpret the documentary this way?

Didn't Mr. B. mention something along the same lines in the Charlie Rose interview? FM sold more units than he did, therefore, his solo album became SYW.

I heard that the audio issues weren't 'repaired' either. Pretty disappointing as the last thing I want to do when watching a dvd is continually make audio adjustments. The best dvd I've ever seen is coldplay live.

There are audio issues with the boot I recd and I was told that those issues are present with the official dvd. I haven't watched the concert yet so I should not have mentioned them or my disappointment. Anyway, I find the mini-doc "NTL" quite interesting; although various visuals had my head ready to spin seizure with the rapid shots. Not too keen on Kirsten's unsteady hand for a number of the package/insert stills. Bottom line, I would have paid $$ for the doc on its own...priceless.

One thing that annoys me about the doc. is the shots of the ground in the middle of a part where, instead, we could see Lindsey talking, playing guitar, working on his album, etc. Those shots where it appears someone stuck a camera out the car window to film the ground bother me- but maybe it's my vapid interpretation. Perhaps this is art and I'm just clueless.

I think the concert is great, great, great. It's weird...sometimes Lindsey's voice doesn't translate on film as well as it does in person. He sounded fantastic at all the shows I went to, but I can hear some glitches here and there in his voice on the DVD. Nothing severe. I keep forgetting the man is, like, 60.

I love Kristen's cover shot. He looks like 40 in that picture. lol!:xoxo:

Well, I absolutely love Lindsey's voice on the doc and will prob burn audio for my listening pleasure. ;) I will also add that I was rather hoping for some footage of the actual 'making' of UTS - editing...splicing...layering tracks...all those madscientist details I am a freak for. ohwell.

Received it and just watched the doc, so some thoughts.

Concert: Definitely will get extra play over here again, good audio overall. Can't beat the Philly boot though.

Doc: Highlights (apart from the ones we had already seen) were indeed the different version of CAD and the small guitar instrumental at the end (with the SUD chord structure, I think). The other guitar doodles with Surrender The Rain type speeches on top aren't much to write home about, honestly.

I didn't find the editing and the shaky footage annoying myself. Biggest gripes so far are the overall seriousness (surprise) and his phone conversations. Seriously, this is the 21st century and by now artists are taking back the control that the record industry used to have. So do something or shut up about it!

Packaging: Looks nice otherwise, but the booklet's a bit too thin. Should've made a bigger one or printed all the info on the case itself.

Thank you Lindsey, but you should really put the next album out soon!

If I recall correctly, on the boot there are one or two of the later songs where there is a severe drop in the level of volume...forcing an adjustment if you want to hear properly. Then again, my ears may just be hyper-sensi. :xoxo:

FYI on edit - that KISS! on the end must be habit... :sorry:

Well that's what I thought when I first saw the music videos. But then I figured that Warner Bros. didn't give him any money to work with, so he was just a man, doing what he can.

The documentary is done the same way as those videos, using the same footage over and over again to simulate continued action. It gets old. One part that I really like is when it looks like he is driving home and the ghost image of his childhood home is superimposed over the tree-lined route to his house in the present day and that sort of gets to me.

Makes me wonder why he didn't throw Flying Down Juniper into the documentary!

It isn't that I didn't enjoy the home-made quality of the doc. Actually, that's what appeals to me- but I would have preferred more footage of Lindsey working on the album, editing, recording, etc. instead of so many cuts of grass/ground shots. But it's a minor complaint. I'm honestly happy with the overall quality of this release and if Lindsey wanted to make another one with shots of the wall, his bathroom, potholes...I'd probably love that as well. As long as he has his music in it, I'm set.

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in quite some time, but have been a posting member since...wow, 1997!!! The Dance tour, how time flies! I was finishing up college back then and spent spare time chatting with Ledgies.

Anyway, I was reading everyone's comments about the doc and was wondering when it was filmed. There is a moment of film that shows Lindsey walking around his house (former house?) and there is a still shot on the UTS cover of this segment of film. This might lead me to believe that the calls to record company execs were to secure a company for UTS. However, UTS was released by Reprise, which I believe had been his company for a few years...? In the doc and in a recently posted interview, we hear that he is a "free agent". So, I don't think he would have considered himself a "free agent" prior to releasing UTS. Maybe I am just getting confused though...???

And, his comment to his final phone caller, something to the effect of seeing the writing on the wall. Do y'all think this means releasing material via Fleetwood Mac, rather than solo? If it was meant to show him shopping for a record company for the new solo album, I'm curious if that material will now fill a new FM album...?

Then again, maybe it was as someone else recently posted, an illustration of the music business industry bottom line mentality of today.

I'm thinking it was shot over a very long period of time with clips from pre UTS release to clips from post UTS release.

michelej1

I'm thinking it was shot over a very long period of time with clips from pre UTS release to clips from post UTS release.

I do think that a lot of the clips are pre-UTS. What's confusing about his being a "free agent" is that he may have been a free agent before UTS, but he just recently said it again in an interview. So, I don't know . . . Of course, even if he had a hard time finding a record label then, I think the segments are in the DVD now because of his current situation. He's discussing what happened then to make a point now. But it is confusing and I was asking the same questions that you are.

Good observation about "pushing the live album limit", time for a poll obviously.

Fans of Lindsey Buckingham need to own this. Sure, it contains the Buckingham basics he’s played countless times in concert–”Go You Own Way,” “Big Love,” “Go Insane,” “Never Going Back Again” and “I’m So Afraid.” And yes, he’s pushing the live album limit–with Fleetwood Mac’s Live in Boston (2004), the Soundstage Presents Lindsey Buckingham DVD (2005) and now this. But Live at the Bass Performance Hall is simply the best place to hear the artist’s most recent solo material.

It may be the least live sounding live album in existence, but for Lindsey Buckingham–king of quirky studio invention and polish–Live at the Bass is downright earthy. I can’t say for sure, but it certainly seems as though a healthy amount of overdubbing has gone on. Audience applause appears to be manipulated in a few places. The percussion sounds a bit too crisp, the vocals too perfect, and hardly anything betrays an ambient “room” sound. Perhaps that’s all due to meticulous close-miking. Perhaps the band is playing to a click track with some programmed drums in the mix. Maybe they’re just freakishly good. Either way, I find this recording more enjoyable than Under The Skin.

For me, Buckingham’s 2006 solo effort Under The Skin is a fatiguing listen. It boasts some top shelf Buckingham material and individually many of the songs are impressive, and some are flat-out amazing. But it all feels as if he’s painted himself into a corner in the studio. The sound is claustrophobic. Liberated from some of the studio wizardry, the material from Under The Skin can breathe a bit more. And there are a whopping six cuts from UTS on the new live disc. Taken with the three new songs Buckingham previewed on the Soundstage DVD, that brings the total to nine out of 11 UTS songs that have officially been released in live versions. Compile them at once, sit back and enjoy. Nothing sounds radically different, but the material crackles with a passion that is not present in the studio.

What about the other songs on Live at the Bass? Oh yeah, they’re good too. Bonus points for a cool solo version of “Trouble,” a fun romp through “Holiday Road” and a fantastic performance of Tusk’s “I Know I’m Not Wrong.”

You know, we live in a new world and with so many fan bootlegs being easily circulated today, I think performers ought to put out a live DVD each and every time they do anything -- sneezing included. I mean, there are going to be boots floating around anyway. Why not have one clear, pristine, official version of every tour you do, just for the historic record? No one is buying this stuff anyway, so is there really a gigantic fear of over-saturating the market?

I can understand limiting your live CDS more than I can the live DVDs, actually.

Rush have released a live DVD of their last two tours and have a third one out later this year. Not to mention the three VHS concerts they released in the 80's and countless live albums over the years. And I'm glad that their recent tours are being released officially for exactly the reasons you said, Michele. I want a new DVD of Lindsey's next solo tour just so I can have it. Who knows, it might be the last solo tour he does and then we'll have no official live document of the new songs when they're done live and that would be a shame. (I'm working on the assumption that he will indeed get a record deal and tour for the new album)

That's a very good point - however, putting something like this out through Warners is essentially a waste of money. He should sell these things privately at concerts or through his website, I'm sure he'd make more out of it then.

But then this is Lindsey and the thought of him selling a release of a concert played on the very same tour is an impossibility - the instant live thing is fit for bands who have no need to polish everything to perfection.

There's an OOTC special. I think it is only 1 hour long. But if they taped that much of the show, they must have taped all of it. Lindsey should release that. I know that he had people asking him for OOTC songs during this last tour. If he's not going to give the people what they want in concert, he can do it on DVD.

Wow, the whole concert on Online Video!!! It is much crisper and clearer than on my VHS recording. Yeah, it is only a snipet of the actual show...I saw him in Austin, TX in 1993. Best concert ever!!!! So intimate and up close. I remember it like it was yesterday.
But, one thing I've always wondered. My VHS copy, which someone recorded for me, is from VH1, and we see the VH1 logo in the bottom right of this online version as well. I remember back in 1992, PBS advertising a Centerstage performance, but I missed its televised date back then. Folks on here also discuss, or refer to this recording as PBS's Centerstage. I am curious if there were two different televised concerts: one on PBS and one on VH1. Does anyone know?

One of the broadcasts had more concert footage than the other, whereas the other had interspersed interview snippets with Lindsey. I forget which was which. Allegedly, the show took place in Chicago, but it always sounded suspiciously like the San Juan Capistrano radio broadcast from the tour.

Lindsey Buckingham: Live at The Performance Bass Hall
by Reg Seeton

If you were like me and had tickets to Fleetwood Mac when they cancelled some of their reunion shows back in 1997, you probably thought there was no hope in hell of seeing the magic of one of the best bands to come out of the ‘70s and 80s. Well, that’s what I thought until 1998 when I caught Mac’s mystical front lady Stevie Nicks at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon on her “Enchanted” tour. When it was all said and done, I thought that show was as close as I was going to get to seeing Fleetwood Mac. However, when I first heard that co-Fleetwood lead singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was hitting the road for his first solo tour in 14 years in support of his new album “Under the Skin,” it was THE perfect opportunity to complete my own hybrid Fleetwood Mac reunion after seeing Stevie a decade earlier. So, after hopping a plane to Las Vegas to catch Buckingham’s “Under the Skin” show at The Luxor, it was only a couple of months later that I found myself in the crowd at The Commodore Ballroom for Lindsey’s intimate and sold out show in Vancouver. I’ve seen hundreds of big musical names play intimate theater/hall/club shows, and Lindsey Buckingham is, without a doubt, one of the best acts I’ve ever seen, especially at The Commodore where the crowd went nuts.

If you’ve been a fan of Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham over the years, you’ll be happy to know that on March 25, 2008 Warner/Reprise released Lindsey Buckingham: Live at The Bass Performance Hall on DVD, recorded in Fort Worth, Texas, which perfectly captures the magic of Buckingham’s 2007 “Under the Skin” tour. Fifteen years after his 1992 release “Out of the Cradle”, Lindsey sat down to write “Under the Skin” after Fleetwood reunited back in 2003 for the “Say You Will” album and his latest solo efforts proves that at 59, he hasn’t lost much in the way of vocals or his masterful guitar picking abilities. If anything, like Lindsey says to the crowd early on in the set, he’s still got it. After seeing two live shows and now the new DVD, it just reconfirms the fact that Lindsey Buckingham is one of the best guitarists and singers that’s ever taken to a stage.

The new Live at The Bass Performance Hall DVD is exciting on several levels aside from the music alone. The video quality, obviously shot on digital, is outstandingly crisp, clear and colorful, which helps to enhance the intimate feel of the show. The audio quality in Dolby Digital Stereo is one of the best “Stereo” mixes I’ve heard in a while. It’s precisely crisp and clean with a perfect balance between channels. The technical quality of this disc oddly reminds me of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Dance” DVD, which was a first generation music DVD released in 1997 that’s still one of the better looking and sounding concert discs you’ll find on the market.

As for the 16 song set list on the disc, with multiple guitar changes along the way, it’s almost exactly what I remember from both live shows that I caught on the tour. Kicking things off with the sincere “Not Too Late” from his latest release before launching into a much softer version of his ‘80s solo hit “Trouble”, Buckingham takes the crowd on a nostalgic journey with such solo favorites as “Go Insane” while sprinkling a few new numbers like “Under the Skin” and “Show You How”, which are two of Lindsey’s best songs of his entire solo career. As any true fan would hope for, Lindsey hits nearly all of the great Fleetwood Mac favorites that he took the lead on, from “Never Going back Again” and the powerful “Big Love” to “Tusk” and what’s arguably the best performance on the disc with “Go Your Own Way”. The Live at The Bass Performance Hall disc is worth its weight in gold just to see Buckingham thrash away, two-handedly, on his guitar during the lengthy solo. Try seeing it live! It’s an absolute must see for any true guitar aficionado.

Also included on the disc is a candid and extremely personal documentary, which gives fans an inside look at Lindsey’s home life and the making of “Under the Skin”. Not only is it highly creative with songs from the new album, but it also raises several interesting ideals and questions, like what it means to hold on to your ideas, going beyond boundaries, and how life is simply meant to be. Lindsey also questions what he has to prove in a rapidly changing music business and also asks whether the music business will eventually be there for him. It’s clear that such a passionate musician is at odds with where he fits into the scene after making such an impact. The documentary is a welcome and warm surprise.

Although age does catch up to Buckingham in the later stages of the show, getting winded at times before the encore, it’s simply due to the fact that the guy plays his guts out for the entire set. My only complaint, after seeing the Vegas show at The Luxor in a more subdued cabaret set-up and the higher-octane, high-energy show at The Commodore in Vancouver, the crowd at The Bass Performance Hall was EXTREMELY WEAK. Lindsey could have done himself a favor and recorded the Vancouver show for the DVD, which would have given the disc a more appreciative tone from the audience perspective. Despite the listless audience, Lindsey Buckingham: Live at The Bass Performance Hall rocks and delivers the same musical greatness as the actual concert experience.

The funny and ironic thing is now that I’ve seen both of Fleetwood Mac’s main vocalists, I’ve heard through the unconfirmed grapevine that the band might be reuniting for a release in 2009. All the better, let’s hope there’s a tour.

SOLO SECOND WIND

"Live at Bass Performance

Hall"

Lindsey Buckingham (Reprise CD/DVD)

Lindsey Buckingham, at 58, has gotten a second wind. Since subsuming solo songs into Fleetwood Mac's 2003 "Say You Will" album, the singer-guitarist has released the live "Soundstage" DVD and the introspective studio disc "Under the Skin." This new live CD/DVD package documents a 2007 show, with the seemingly ageless Buckingham playing solo and with a backing trio.

These performances are a shade more self-conscious than on the "Soundstage" DVD, but that release's highlights are also gems here - riveting solo versions of "Trouble," "Big Love" and "Go Insane." What's new to this set are rollicking group renditions of "Holiday Road" and "I Know I'm Not Wrong" (from "Tusk"). The DVD also includes the hour-long documentary "It's Not Too Late," simultaneously a diary, a manifesto and music video.

It's ultra-artsy in a homemade way, but Buckingham at least isn't coasting on his classic-rock past.

No, there was just one. Michele

Thanks Michele, not just for this answer, but for all the others as well. And I thought I knew a lot about Lindsey! It is great to have so many contacts who share an appreciation for him.

"It's a Long Way Down the Holiday Road"

Curious convergence of events going on here at Pop Life. I just received the new Lindsey Buckingham live CD/DVD, Live at the Bass Performance Hall, which is mind-blowingly faboo. Seriously, it rocks almighty. That guy might be the most underrated guitar player in the pop pantheon. His baroque reworkings of Trouble and Go Insane are iTunes-worthy and then some. He also tosses in a robust version of Holiday Road, the rollickin' theme from National Lampoon's Vacation, at the tail end of the set (yep, complete with dog barks).

Oddly enough, Steve Spears and I just recorded a raucous, Coppertone-slathered podcast about "Spring Break in the '80s," including the movies, memories and songs associated with hitting the road for rest, relaxation and demoralizing moments in tropical climes. (The show should launch in a day or two.) Anyway, one of the songs we played was Holiday Road, which I'm proud to say I also own on vinyl. Anyway, here ya go, a little Lindsey to brighten your day...or your road trip.

p.32 DVD Review - there is a picture of the album cover

Lindsey Buckingham - Live at the Bass Performance Hall

Taped in January 2007 in Fort Worth, Texas, this live performance from Lindsey Buckingham is a "concert" in the old-school sense of the word. Dispensing with stage props and featuring minimal between-song patter, Buckingham runs through a mix of back-catalog solo material, Fleetwood Mac hits and songs from his most recent album, Under the Skin. The ambiance is less that of a rock show than something akin to a classical piano performance.

Whether that no-frills approach is good or bad depends on one's tastes, but there's no denying the dazzling skills with which Buckingham brings these songs to life. While the set isn't entirely "unplugged", it's Buckingham's unique finger-picking - played mostly on acoustic guitar - that drives the bulk of the material. Tracks such as "Show You How" and "Big Love" showcase his six-string prowess in all it's glory, even as Buckingham never succumbs to virtuosity for its own sake. No matter how sparkling the execution, the songs remain paramount.

Other high points include a stately rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Second Hand News" and rollicking, rockabilly-tinged versions of the solo tracks "I Know I'm Not Wrong" and "Holiday Road." Fleshing out the DVD is a 45-minute "home" documentary, wherein an otherwise upbeat Buckingham laments the deterioration of the emphasis on artistry within the music industry. Also available is an expanded package that includes an audio CD with the same track listing (sans "Tusk") as the DVD. -RH

two things... i don't know how much "Show You How" shows off six-string prowess or virtuosity. i love SYH, but it's probably the simplest thing he's ever played. and also, "I Know I'm Not Wrong" is not a solo track.

I told Netflix I wanted a copy to watch, & they reported it will be a "LONG WAIT."

I got angry for a minute, but then realized, "Well, It's Lindsey, after all."

Ah, David . . .

I vacillate between being eager for your review and being afraid of it.

Can someone xplain what this means? I hope it's not that the songs were written as if he was movie-making.

No really, I don't understand this expression.

In other words, no matter how impressive his playing may be, it never overshadows the importance of the song itself.

Thanks Johnny, That is actually maybe the greatest compliment I've ever read about him, and that short sentence sums up my fandom. He always puts the song above his playing, which is - imo - the main reason why he'll never be on the greatest guitarists-lists.

That's definitely the "problem" of why he's so often overlooked and underrated. The Steve Vais and Eddie Van Halens of the world get attention because of their guitar theatrics. And not that those guys aren't talented -- they certainly are -- but when you play to benefit the song, as LB does, and not just to get your audience's rocks off, your skills tend to go more unnoticed.
