Stevie Nicks is in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage, which airs on PBS. Joe directs the show.
From Stevie-Nicks.info. An accompanying CD would be awesome!! I guess the information was in a Nashville newspaper.:]

lots of negativity. I suspect it will be something like FM did with Live in Boston. We will get some live tracks that may/may not be on the DVD. I would like to have the tracks that dont make it to the DVD or maybe at least one new song?

The post says she is "in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage." It does not say or imply that the CD is a rip of songs from the Soundstage. I took it to mean she is recording new songs. Is there something I missed?

Thats what I got from it too, but since Joe Thomas is the director for the show, I think its just a CD to accompany the DVD.

A new CD would be great, but I have a sinking feeling that we're going to get a ten track "sampling" of songs that have been around for several tours.
My prediction, if I may:
1. Stand Back
2. OTR/Dreams
3. Rhiannon
4. Landslide
5. GDW
6. Circle Dance
7. FFG
8. Edge
9. R&R
10. BATB

Grammy Awards could be victim of writers strike
Grammy Awards could be victim of writers strike (http://www.twangtownusa.com/cgi-bin/NewsScript/newsscript.pl?record=3742)
By BEVERLY KEEL • January 17, 2008
The Writers Guild of America's strike that essentially shut down the Golden Globe Awards now threatens to disrupt the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, so the Recording Academy and two unions are working to save music's biggest awards show.
On Tuesday, the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists issued a joint statement in support of the Grammys. It said they are encouraged by news that the WGA has signed an interim agreement allowing The 39th NAACP Image Awards to be telecast as scheduled. The Grammys' producers and AFM reps have requested the writers guild sign a similar agreement with the music awards show.
Nashville Association of Musicians President Harold Bradley, who serves on the American Federation of Musicians' international executive board, said the union hopes to reach an agreement similar to the one between the WGA and David Letterman's production company that allows writers to work for the company's shows.
"It's only a once a year show, so it wouldn't hurt the network, if that is what the writers are trying to do," Harold said. "It would hurt the Grammy show, and it would hurt the musicians." MusiCares, the Recording Academy's nonprofit arm that helps musicians in need, also would be harmed, he said. "This would be quite a blow if they couldn't have their show. I hope the writers understand how important it is for the show to go on to support the humanitarian efforts of MusiCares."
The Recording Academy's president and CEO, Neil Portnow, said in a statement, "We are in a different industry than the motion picture and television business; I am quite certain that most are aware of the extremely difficult and challenging conditions facing our industry's creators and companies."
The Associated Press reported that guild spokesman Gregg Mitchell said a waiver "is unlikely to be granted." If no waiver is granted, the question would be if the unions would allow their members to cross picket lines. "We really think that the writers guild will carefully consider what we have said to them and will work it out," Harold said.
Among Nashville acts and work nominated for Grammys this year are Taylor Swift and Paramore, both up for top new artist; Vince Gill's four-disc These Days boxed set for album of the year; and "Before He Cheats," the Carrie Underwood smash written by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, for song of the year.
The Nashville Symphony's Alan Valentine plans on attending the Grammys, even if it means crossing the picket line. The symphony is up for two awards. "I'm not a member of the union," he said. "I'll write the show if they want me to."
Hill recovers from knee surgery
Faith Hill is recovering nicely after knee surgery Jan. 7 that was the result of an old injury suffered while playing high school softball and through normal wear and tear over the years.
"Who has time to slow down?" Faith said in a statement. "I intend to be back better and stronger." She is preparing for her MusiCares tribute to Aretha Franklin in Los Angeles on Feb. 8 and recording her 2008 Christmas album.
Keith, Nicole go house hunting
Don't believe those media reports that have Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman living in Europe or Australia. I hear they are shopping for a Nashville home while their home near Leiper's Fork is being renovated. (Real estate guru Rick French, who works with Keith, couldn't be reached for comment.)
"Nashville is very much a part of Keith and Nicole's plans now and in the future," Keith's spokesman, Paul Freundlich, said. "Any reports to the contrary are just not accurate."

My only thing about that is it is relatively easy to rip the song from the DVD to CD. In other words, if the CD contains the same songs as the DVD, why go through that effort, esp. since the CD likely adds nothing significant to the sales volume IMO.
So, I am hoping, perhaps in vain, for a new sudio release of one or two songs. After all, even GH packages have new stuff  -- though her last one did not, save for the DVD stuff with comments.

Nice try... that's another Joe Thomas. This Joe Thomas is a veteran country music producer based in Nashville, who, I believe, is pretty much only doing Soundstage-related things these days. As such, I don't have high hopes that this CD will be anything but the bastard stepchild of "Live in Boston." But then again the terminology used in the article was "recording an album," which sounds like a lot more than merely producing/overdubbing a live CD. I have this deep dark fantasy that Joe will assemble a bunch of Nashville's finest session musicians so that Stevie can quickly run through some of Carrie Underwood's rejected song pile. I know that sounds horrible, but at least it's something new! Five years without a single new studio recording from Mama is just cruel!

I can't even imagine what type of cd would "accompany" a dvd of Soundstage... Unless it's a cd of the full show. And why Nashville? Could it be that she's recording country tunes? Maybe an ep? Doesn't really make any sense especially when thrown in with the Soundstage dvd. Seems going country is the new flavour... Bon Jovi' latest cd was leaning towards country... Jewel's upcoming cd is supposedly country... Jessica Simpson (not that she counts), her next cd is apparently country too... Sheryl Crow lives in Nashville - but from the sound of her latest songs, it's not really country... So who knows what this is... But hey, anything new from her if it is in fact new material, is great in my books!

I agree, except I can see her cutting some songs from the show. Another possibility would be an interview, but of course that doesn't make sense, given that she is in Nashville for the recording, which would be unnecessary, unless she's sitting in the Grand Ole Opry with an urn of Jesse's ashes on her lap, for sentimental reasons ;).
Of course, this could be an album of extras, like Space Needle & You're Not the One, etc (I like to get people's hopes up). But more likely it's five live recordings of "Dreams", recorded back-to-back.:distress:

Stevie Nicks, the infamous "breadwinner" of the 70's rock band Fleetwood Mac, is 'rumoured' to be in Nashville this month, editing her SoundStage special, and recording an album that will accompany its DVD release. Our correspondent tells us that Nicks is reshooting close-ups, editing in footage of 'white winged dove's' being released into the studio audience, and having the entire concert's vocals brought up two octaves. A dancing scene featuring the now 74 year old Brad Jefferies will also be included in this incredible performance.
The CD portion of this package will feature one new song, written by Sandy Stewart… and sung by Sheryl Crow. The tentative tracklisting includes:
1. Outside the Rain
2. Dreams
3. Rhiannon
4. Gold Dust Woman
5. Edge of Seventeen
6. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
7. Stand Back
8. NEW SONG. Title has not been released.

I do think this CD will have new material, she already released Crystal Visions, and now she is in the studio recording new songs for this CD. The fact that she is in Nashville tells me that she must be working on the N.O. song, otherwise, why not just go to Los Angeles? I do not think Fleetwood Mac went into a studio to do the CD for Live in Boston, just like Stevie did not need to go to a studio for the live tracks on CV. As for editing the DVD, or putting live tracks on a CD, I doubt Stevie would be involved in that, technically speaking,...there are people who she hires to do that for her. And looking at the quote "Stevie Nicks is in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage..." it appears that she is recording A CD that will accompany A DVD...not THE CD that accompanies THE DVD...so, to me, it appears that they will be two seperate entities. Just my opinion tho.

I believe the album will be new material. I believe that Stevie spent several years trying to think of a good way to release some new material without having to produce a major all-out album. Someone has been giving Stevie fresh new ideas for marketing:
1. Greatest hits package with DVD & funky commentary on old videos
2. Soundstage DVD
3. Accompanying CD of new material -- a 2-fer
Stevie has found her way at last out of the morass of the industry cul-de-sac.

Wow, I have no idea what everyone is smoking here, but have any of you seen how these concert DVD/CD packages work? The CD is just the audio of the DVD, usually with fewer songs, thereby making the CD redundant. This is just how these things work.
The CD won't have unreleased gems, it won't be a country album, it won't have awesome rare stuff, it'll be an audio of the DVD.
Now if she's actually recording an album in ADDITION to tweaking the DVD, then that's different. But Stevie has said she's taking this year off from doing anything big, so I wouldn't bet on that either.
Finally if Stevie's track record holds up, this release won't see the light of day until the late summer or fall.
That's just how it is. But I suppose those who chose to can live in their fantasy world and these wild concepts can become reality.

I didn't realize all of the people with negative opinions on here had all of the right facts and all of the positive people had the wrong facts. The only thing we have to go on is this one quote, so why is it that we're all smoking something if we're all speculating on what our opinions/thoughts are on this project? I guess no one is allowed to have any thoughts or opinions because that this just unrealistic.

One can have all the opinions and thoughts they want. I'm just saying the odds are that the CD that is being worked on is the companion disc to the DVD ie. the audio version of the DVD. I could be completely wrong, but if I had to wager money on this I would bet that it's just a companion CD. Which by the way, I am more than happy with. People can speculate all they want, the trouble is these speculations turn into expectations and excitement builds for what might be. But when that doesn't happen everyone bitches about it. Speculation is fine, but try to keep it reality based.

i think we all have differing opinions and thats what makes us individuals...nothing wrong with dreaming as i'm probably 1 of the biggest dreamers on this board or the other 4 im on...that being said i think if stevie was recording a brand new album not just the live from soundstage she would release it on it's own just like the rest of her solo projects...i'm loving the fact that we'll get a cd from soundstage bc not a lot of fans got to go to that show...i tried a day after the announcement came out and wasn't able to get tickets and i'm a citibank card holder...i think most of us are happy she's making a cd at all and i can't wait for it to hit the stores...peace out...pat

after 107 posts on these boards, i'm surprised you haven't come to the conclusion that usually around these parts, the term reality based coupled with the name stevie nicks really aren't synonymous with one another.
that aside, i wholly agree with the aforementioned statement of it simply being a companion disc a la every other soundstage performance released en mass and i wouldn't be surprised if the audio was being remixed. it wouldn't be the first time an artist added vocals to a live performance

Two things I wanted to point out. 1. If it's the same producer as soundstage then it's prob. all about the soundstage music but if it's an actual new recording of Stevies' music you might want to keep in mind that 2. Sheryl Crow now considers Nashville her home.

I feel your frustration, Jaz. But in fairness, we're talking about an artist who does not update us with official news of her plans (especially through her website) as quickly as many other artists do, so naturally people will speculate - especially since we often read correct things elsewhere before they are announced by her people. Add to that the euphoria many of us felt when the Mac reunited for The Dance, & then the brilliant solo TISL album. All this just a few years after lethargic performances, & talk of quitting the music business within five years to paint (remember that interview around TimeSpace?). And what still rings in my ears is when she got off the tranquilizers & said that the days of four or five years between (solo) albums are over. But still we wait. So naturally many of us are used to getting our hopes up & then (a bit) dashed, & we end up sounding cynical. You've every right to call us on that, but I think better communication from the artist might help solve the problem. JMO

Agreed, but I tend to think that a large part of Stevie's appeal is about the veil of mystery she keeps. She touches us with her music, but she does not touch us in the physical sense. By contrast, can you imagine if Stevie started up a blog, or, heaven forbid, started posting her daily diary entries into a blog? Although we would be fascinated at first, I can imagine that we would grow tired of it after a while. She will start to seem like a normal, unremarkable person who just happens to have an extraordinary job. I would like to think that she always floats around her oceanfront penthouse wearing the Bella Donna dress with the parrot in one hand and a tambourine in the other, and a wind/fog machine is constantly blowing. But the reality is that she is probably wearing a black tunic with fuzzy slippers, hair rollers and no make-up. I just don't need or want to know about this reality
Speculating about her career and about her songs is half the fun and keeps us wanting more. She knows exactly what she is doing.

This is true. and i was just thinking about this yesterday, watching mtvs life of ryan. (the one about the pro skater) and i was thinking, ya know is it really necessary for me to watch this guy have breakfast. play mini golf and chill in the hotel room? Then when he shows up at the events and does cool tricks and stuff, all i can think is "He likes Captain Crunch". this is the problem with "now" celebrities and artist. I feel spoiled getting up-to-the minute myspace bulletins from other bands i like. The speculation is part of the fun with her.
Im glad that stevie keeps the mystery and does not have a daily blog, or any of that.
And as usual, I keep no expectations. so JUST a DVD is a total thrill. ANYTHING else is just icing on the cake.

I completely agree...Stevie is certainly no fool. Stevie is the kind of person who gets involved in something once the ball starts rolling. For example, the TwoVoices tour, that turned into the huge Gold Dust Tour and lasted the entire summer of 2005, and it all started with 4 shows in Vegas, and later Don Henley. Since she is in the studio, the momentum is there, so it might give her a push to record new material...it's like a snowball affect.

She touches us with her music, but she does not touch us in the physical sense. You know it's funny, having met a few different members of Fleetwood Mac over the years, people have asked me about Stevie. And I say so I havent ever met her, and in a way I like that. I would never turn down the opportunity certainly, but that distance is a bit more fascinating to me I guess.

That was a popular show with her fans. They all seemed to love it. It had some strong material on it (Edge of Seventeen, After the Glitter Fades, Dreams), performances were good, &c.
They should have released a special-edition DVD of it available through the Web channels, like her dudfficial Web site. Chris could have designed the box.

Her vocals were also almost completely redone for those as well. If you listen to a raw recording of the Red Rocks show and compare it to the released version, it's like two totally different shows.

I think she redid her vocals for Stand Back & Leather & Lace for the radio broadcast of the Oakland 10.04.83 segments. The real Stand Back vocal would have been virtually unrecognizable as Stand Back to most little boys & girls.

Yes, there have been several interesting threads over the years about what kind of technical enhancing they did to Stevie's vocals on the finished Red Rocks release. I'm afraid I'll need to get a few slaps with a wet noodle though, because I actually have never heard the 'raw' version of the Red Rocks performance that was eventually doctored up and released.
It makes sense that the TITN vid also had some vocal fiddling, because her voice sounds much...different on the video than what I remember from the 2 live nights I caught in '87. That whole video annoys me anyway. I hate when they film through a fuzzy/gauzy lens and use all that slo-mo. It's like they were purposely trying to make Stevie look laconic. I can picture the director of the re-takes "Ok Stevie, now look into the camera...keep looking...ok now pout! Good, slowly..slowly turn your head away keep pouting look from the corner of your eye, good! Cut! Ok Charlie, we'll print that one, but slow it down by 3/4 speed and add lots of fuzz."

Stevie has found her way at last out of the morass of the industry cul-de-sac.
at this point
eff the whole album
i would be happy with TWO new Stevie songs
that's enough of an album for me
