I apparently live in a hole, because for some reason, I never paid much attention to this song until recently and now I can't stop listening to it! Great Stevie/Lindsey harmony on the chorus, really cool production (love the "Big Love" throwback), powerful and catchy, it's freaking awesome! And those synths at the end! Gah!
Where have I been? Is total adoration of this song common? Did they ever do it live?

It's my favorite on SYW, especially since LB neutered Smile at You. I don't think they did it live, but I could be mistaken. They did Destiny Rules once or twice before taking it out of the set in 2003 but I don't recall Everybody Finds Out. Although, if I'm wrong I hope somebody posts it. Hint, hint.

"neutered Smile at You" Very good description. I don't mean to hijack this thread because EBO is a kick ass song, but hate to this day what LB did to Smile at You. It went from being an angry passionate song to well... a lethargic weak song. I do enjoy listening to it once in a while, but still prefer the demo.
ok...back to the topic at hand. EBO
I wish it was released on radio. Damn, can you imagine the music video to that song? It would have been fantastic given the right director/vision.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song, too! The ending is my favorite - esp Stevie's mini wail:)

One of my top 3 favorite songs on the album. The bragging, taunting, self-delusional lyrics and the attitude with which they are sung is out of this world. The energy that Lindsey brings to the chorus . . . sensational.
Anywhere we can, baby, everytime he can . . .get away.

Its a good song- I like it- but Lindsey's dated production casts a pall over it (as it does over most of the record)

Great song, indeed. It's my second favorite Stevie track on SYW.

I love this song, too.
I remember the band performed it in a rehearsal on the Destiny Rules DVD so they may have tried it out live. It would make an awesome showpiece.
My favorite part of the song is when Lindsey sings the "bum bum bum bum" underneath Stevie's "I know you don't agree..."

I LOVE this song, but what I love more is that you've just found it. I think that's priceless. I don't know how sometimes songs go right under our noses like that. For me about 5 years ago, I "discovered" Sheryl Corws "Your'e Not The One" and was like OMFG< LOVE this song, blah, blah, blah, how did I miss it, etc. All my Stevie friends were like HELLO, this has been out FOREVER. But hey, amidst a semi dry Stevie spell, was fun to stumble upon, and see, same for you.
But EFO is for sure a great song. Well worked on together by SN & Lindsey SO unlike SAY for sure =0( That was just a terrible thing they did to it. EFO could have just as well been on Tango. It's so of that era w/out sounding 80's.

Lindsey gets hassled so much from folks who think he castrated 'Smile At You.' I have to disagree. First off, Stevie would never just let Lindsey to what he wanted with her song and just let it go if she truly didn't like it. They are "her children." Stevie is not in the same place now as she was when she started developing this song many (many) years ago. Stevie is not angry anymore, she is if anything reflective and a bit sleepy.
Now onto EFO: hot song. I'm not sure how it would have played live, there seem to be many undercurrents going on musically and vocally.

This was the one track that I went "OMG!" when I first heard SAY YOU WILL all the way through. Love this song -- it's definately a stand out cut.

rbsI like it, too. It's pretty clean. But I have to throw in my hatred of Smile at You. Even if I had never heard the song in demo form, I'd still hate the 2003 job. Something's wrong with it technically. I think Rupert Hine, with his tin ear, must have snuck in & arranged & produced it. It has a lot of the same flaws in layering that Escape from Berlin or I Still Miss Someone does.

One of my favorites. They missed a great opportunity not releasing this as a single.
For those that don't already have these, here are a few alternate versions I had on my computer.

Please elaborate on the flaws of Berlin and Somebody. I always thought that Berlin was an exceptional song.
EFO is a very cool rocking song. Interesting that it does not sound at all like a FM song to me. Nor does it sound like a Stevie song. Was anyone else involved with producing this and was it an old song that they updated?

Wasn't Everybody Finds Out the Stevie demo they had Chris Lord Algae produce? Maybe they stuck with his general design for the song and just had it tweeked by whoever produced SYW (his name has escaped me.)

Please elaborate on the flaws of Berlin and Somebody. I always thought that Berlin was an exceptional song.I think the engineering is awful. At one poing, the gain even drops out. It's like a senior project for a college course in mixing technology.

A snarky comment from Vanessa? Well I NEVER! :distress:
Anyway, if Lindsey was the producer...That means Chris Lord Algae was the mixer?

Without a doubt, Say You Will's finest moment. Production is killer, wonderful lyrics and Stevie's vocal is fierce. I love the "don't you know...don't you know" part towards the end...

*falls over in a dead faint* That would have been an unbelievable video. :blob2:
It's one of those songs where everything just fits together perfectly -- production, lyrics, vocal, music -- it all just clicks together like a jigsaw. It would have brought the house down live. It has that kind of darkness and energy that the original Smile at You had.
And those synths at the end just clinch it for me.

Stevie's not angry anymore? I don't know about that. But you're right that ultimately, she did let him do it since that's the version that ended up on the CD. I just wish she would have stuck to her guns and preserved the energy from the demo version because it had much more bite to it, which made the song a fan favorite in the first place.
