My son is getting married this June and wants for me to pick the mother/son dance song. I need help with this. I can't figure out which song to choose.
Just to give a bit of background, he is my only son - when he was 4 years old, he underwent brain surgery for an inoperable brain tumor - the doctors weren't sure if he would survive. He had to relearn how to walk and talk again , I NEVER left his side, of course , for 2 months, and I helped him to relearn how to walk and talk again. He had another brain tumor surgery when he was 6 years old, also he has a shunt in his head. He truly IS my miracle child! He was so sick at one time, that he even got a wish from the Make A Wish Foundation. He is now 21 years old and getting married !
Naturally, we are VERY close , but I am having a difficult time finding a song that would describe how I feel about him.
Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.
The 1st pic is me & my son after one of his surgeries - took him to Florida -
The 2nd pic was taken Christmas 2007.

My friend and his Mom danced to "What A Wonderful World" (Louis Armstrong version). I thought it was a great choice.

Congratulations! I'd recommend doing a google search and just type "mother son wedding songs". I just did and a lot of songs came up I never heard of, or wouldn't have thought of. Here is one I checked out. It's called "Child Of Mine" by Carole King. The words are so pretty. The tempo is kind of slow though.
Although you see the world
Different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon
The wonders that you see
And all the new colors
And pictures you've designed
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a chi-ild of mine
Child of mine, chi-ild of mine
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a chi-ild o-of mine
You don't need directions
You know which way to go
And I don't wanna hold you back
I just wanna watch you grow
You're the one who taught me-ee
You don't have to loo-ook behind
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, child of mine
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a chi-ild of mine
Nobody's gonna kill your dreams
Or tell you how to li-ive your life
There'll always be people
To make it hard for a while
But you'll change their head
When they see you-ou smi-i-i-ile
The times you were born in
May not have been the best
But you can make the times to come
Better than the rest
I know you will be honest
If you can't a-always be kind
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, chi-ild of mine
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a child of mine
Child of mine, chi-ild of mine
Oh yes sweet darlin'
So glad you are a chi-ild of mine

What about Simple Man? I like Shinedowns version better than Skynards though.
Well mama told me, when I was young
Said sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this, it'll help you some sunny day
Ahhh
Yeah it will
Or take your time don't live to fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You'll find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget that there's is a someone up above
[Chorus]
Be a simple kind of man
Be a something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can
(if you can)
Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need now is in your soul
And you can do this(oh baby)if you try
All that I want from you my son is to be satisfied
[Chorus]
And be a simple kind of man
Be a something that you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can
(if you can)
Oh don't you worry
You'll find yourself
Follow your heart
And nothing else
And you can do this(oh baby)if you try
All that I want from you my son is to be satisfied
[Chorus]
And be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can
So baby be a simple be a simple man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can

Hey, you left out what you think of his fiancee. If you disapprove, maybe "Battle of the Dragon" might make a point?;)
Seriously, I get that you are excited about the big day. Congratulations on the upcoming event.
I have been to weddings where (as someone suggested) "What a Wonderful World" played for the bride/father dance, & it was nice.

I was going to suggest this- my friend swears it will be her dance at her son's wedding (he's in 2nd grade now- she likes to plan ahead!).

I know of someone else who was trying to find a good mother/son wedding song...she was leaning toward James Taylor, "You've Got a Friend." Thought it could be a nice pick :-)

Good point! At 1st, I didn't care for her too much, but I guess that NOONE is good enough for my son, I have gotten to know her pretty good now, and we have gotten really close.
Thanks for all of the song suggestions! I will let you know which one I choose!!!

congratulations on the son's impending nuptials!
I like an upbeat mother-son dance, like "Murder, He Says" performed by the inimitable Betty Hutton:

What a sweet story about you and your son. So sweet.
You said you were looking for a song how you feel about your son, but there is a song that came to mind, but it is more maternal, from the son's point of view. Paul Simon's Loves Me Like A Rock.
When I was a little boy, (when I was just a boy)
And the devil would call my name (when I was just a boy)
Id say now who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (when I was just a boy)
Im a consecrated boy (when I was just a boy)
Im a singer in a sunday choir
Oh , my mama loves, she loves me
She get down on her knees and hug me
Like she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And loves me
She love me, love me, love me, love me
When I was grown to be a man (grown to be a man)
And the devil would call my name (grown to be a man)
Id say now who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (grown to be a man)
Im a consummated man (grown to be a man)
I can snatch a little purity
My mama loves me, she loves me
She get down on her knees and hug me
Like she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And loves me
She love me, love me, love me, love me
And if I was president (was the president)
The minute congress call my name (was the president)
Id say who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (who do you think youre fooling)
Ive got the presidential seal (was the president)
Im up on the presidential podium
My mama loves me
She loves me
She get down on her knees and hug me
Like she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And loves me
Fade out:
She love me, love me, love me, love me
(loves me like a rock)
But then a sweet song I have always loved is Bacharach's 'Reach Out For Me'
When you go through a day
And the things that people say
They make you feel so small
They make you feel that
Your heart will just never stop aching
And when you just can't accept the abuse you are taking
Darlin' reach out for me
Don't you worry, I'll see you through
You just have to reach out for me
I'll be there and I'll comfort you
Oh yes, I will
Comfort you and love you
Oh how I'm gonna love you
When good friends prove untrue
And the things they do to you
They make you feel so bad
They make you feel that
You haven't a reason for living
So when you feel you
Could throw in the towel and just give in
Darlin' reach out for me
Don't you worry, I'll see you through
You just have to reach out for me
I'll be there and I'll comfort you
Oh yes, I will
Comfort you and love you
Oh how I'm gonna love you
They make you feel that
Your heart will just never stop aching
And when you just can't accept the abuse you are taking
Darlin' reach out for me
Don't you worry, I'll see you through
You just have to reach out for me
I'll be there and I'll comfort you
Oh yes, I will
Comfort you and love you
Oh how I'm gonna love you
Good luck in finding the right song. Someone should write a song for you.

Thank you so much for the nice words about our pic. It means a lot! :xoxo: Yes, there is no love like your love for your kids! I would do ANYTHING for any of my children!
Just an update, my son & I are heading to Childrens Memorial for an MRI tomorrow at 5 am - he may be having a shunt malfunction, so the doctors want to check him right away. I think he will have to have surgery again.

I don't have a wedding video. And this song wasn't out in 1984 anyway.
With my sister and my mom, and my cousin and my aunt, Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" was THE DANCE. I'm just hoping one of my kids asks me to dance to that song with them at their wedding. But definitely, "Wind Beneath My Wings".

Ugh, I'm sorry to learn this.
I'm sure the song is not at the top of your priorities right now, but when you do come back to thinking about it, maybe "Songbird" would work?

just an update: we went to see the neurosurgeon yesterday - my son is scheduled for an " explore the shunt" surgery tomorrow, he has been lethargic, more off balanced than normal, so the doctor wants to check it out, plus his eye is aiming outwards, so not good. It should work out ok, wwe have the "best" neurosurgeon, so I'm not too concerned. It's just always scary when a surgery has to do with the brain.
