Far Away? Far away from what? Section 209 is quite near the stage-Waddy's side. I'm in the front row of that section. Our seats rock!
Didn't want to be on the floor for 2 reasons. (1) Formal attire-We are talking black tie and tux for the men-gowns for the women., and (2) Table seating and the front table seats are not even up for sale. Or are you just being funny? Never can tell on this board.:p

Awesome!
Unfortunately, I've heard that its quite possible that Stevie's set will be cut down. Apparently, "she's not the focus of the evening." This is what someone told me who has read about previous Up and Front events. The focus is the alumni, award ceremony and student performances. :distress:

Has anyone called to find out the schedule yet? If not, then I'll do it on Monday as I doubt that they will be there today.
The dinner will obviously start first, then probably the awards, Marc Cherry, then Stevie. If we can get an idea of what time she might go on, then we can better plan our time of arrival. I, for one, won't have a problem missing the awards, etc. I'm thinking she will come on around tenish-over by 11:00 p.m.-that would be a short set and within a reasonable hour-especially for Saturday night-only two weeks away!:blob1:
They advertised the show yesterday in our local paper The Daily Bulletin out of Ontario, CA so there must still be seats available.

I wasn't being funny, just making an observation. I meant that you guys should be able to see pretty well even though you're not as close as people toward the front of the floor - I guess I should have posted "farther" as opposed to "far." Yes, she is. Thanks for the apology. :wavey:
FYI: I have been to the Honda Center many times and believe me we have better seats than most of the people who paid at least $600 to sit at tables on the floor-check out the seating chart. People are going to be sitting at tables. The best tables are $25,000 a pop and you can't even buy single seats at those tables. The back tables-in the rear of the arena-are $600 a seat. What do you think you'll see from there for $600? People in the $45 cheap seats above us will have a better view. And, we can wear jeans-not formals.
I'll be at the stage at Fantasy Springs the night before so I'm not worried about the Edge walk either. I'll get to shake her hand for the umpteenth time there.:blob1::blob1::blob1::lol:

This is from the information sheet:
As Cal State Fullerton continues its 50th Anniversary celebration, the university is thrilled that Front & Center 2008 will feature the legendary female rock artist STEVIE NICKS [isn't it amusing that they had to specify that she's a female?]. Famed for her mystical, gypsy-inspired image and distinctively powerful vocals, Stevie Nicks is one of the most successful female singer/songwriters in rock history. Adding further to the excitement, the evening will also showcase the talented students from the university's own award-winning College of the Arts.
In addition, Front & Center 2008 will feature a special presentation of the Orange County Titan Award to Orangewood Children's Foundation. They are being recognized for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the advancement of Cal State Fullerton, its students, and the broader Orange County community. We lok forward to seeing you there on Saturday, February 2nd, at the Honda Center.

Great show tonight.
Setlist:
Stand Back
Enchanted
If Anyone Falls
Crash Into Me
Rhiannon
Dreams
Gold Dust Woman
I Need to Know
Band Introductions
Landslide
Edge of Seventeen
Rock N' Roll
Awesome vocals tonight. Every time I see her live, I always forget how high pitched she actually is. I don't know what the problem is, but she really sounds nothing like bootleg and video recordings, much different in person.
We sat all the way up to Edge, when I saw that security was letting people from wherever go down to the stage, my date and I darted down. We got stuck behind a camera man but it was alright.
Stevie came right down to us and shook our hands (MY FIRST TIME) and thank god she wasn't wearing gloves :) Everyone who was at the stage was rocking out, they were all performers in the pre-concert activities.
After the Edge Walk was over, I kept cheering on Al who gave me a thumps up, screaming at Waddy who smiled and nodded (and whose pick I eventually got from a stage hand) and ran into WildHeart who came up and said "Liam?!" and we said hi and what not. (Lovely meeting you by the way, sorry I rushed off after we talked to Cory!)
After the final bow, all the band stayed on stage to take pictures with the performers, while everyone was gathered talking I ran over and yelled to Lori who I blew a kiss too and she waved and blew one back, she looked amazing. I still hate Jana and Sharon.
After everyone walked off, the various stage hands came out, at which point a young blond girl started rapping up cords. I asked her if she would give me the setlist taped to the floor, and she did. WildHeart (who's name I dont know :() came up and said hi to her, and it ended up being Cory Buckingham. I unfortunately was concert-high and made a fool out of myself, speaking frantically about how she needs to post more blogs and how I apparently love her.
All in all, I cam away with a pick, setlist, kiss from Lori, handshake from Stevie (attempted handshake from her Asian security guard who's name I can't remember right now), a smile and nod from Waddy, and a thumbsup from Al.
My most amazing concert experience to date. :)

Well, HAEWAFY was in the setlist too, it just didn't happen to be Stevie's setlist. To tell you the truth, the school's use of the song as a group anthem wasn't half bad.
I missed HSML and Sorcerer, but this was a wonderful show. Stevie sounded amazing and was very energetic, but being there was like walking the razor's edge between pleasure and pain. Some of the amateur songs performed about hope and dreams and orphans made me suffer in ways I've never experienced at an SN concert: well, I've never suffered that way except when Stevie does Circle Dance, Rock and Roll and Beauty and the Beast in her freak costume. Other than that . . . this agony was a first.
The Cal State students put on a show that started off with several corny numbers, but improved with Marc Cherry's comedy. Marc is kind of a hefty guy. At one point he came out in a fake pants and top, with a ruffled collar and sleeves, his version of Leather and Lace (with music from that song). When he introduced the school president he pointed out that Stevie accepted the invitation to perform as soon as it was offered, which made him wonder if maybe Stevie and the president, Milton Gordon, could have been intimate once a time. Maybe they had a rendezvous at the Costa Mesa Motel 6, where they were no longer educator and rock star, but just a man and a woman giving in to forbidden love. After describing the imagined lust between Stevie and Milton for some time, Marc apologized and explained that he'd been on strike too long, he needed to write.
THEN he said that the Fullerton students had a bunch of production numbers to show us. What?? I'd already seen a bunch of production numbers from them, I wasn't expecting still more. But it continued. Marc started singing himself (Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat) at which point the impatient crowd started shouting out "Stevie, Stevie!"
Marc ignored them and started telling us more about Stevie, how she'd sold 80 million records, was inducted into the RNRHF as part of FM, still had a solo career at an age when most people start to retire and, "most important," he told us that she's still hot. This culminated in a surreal tribute to Stevie herself. The dancers came out in "Stevie" attire. The women wore corset vests and flowing gypsy skirts and they gave us Stevie's life story in song. Huh!? At points it was gag-inducing.
They used Tina Turner's Overnight Sensation, Overnight Success, talked about how she and Lindsey formed Fritz (really?) and opened for Hendrix and Joplin. Then, they talked about how Stevie lost her friend Robin to Leukemia and to accompany this tragic tale, started singing It's a Wonderful World, made famous by Louis Armstrong. At that point, I wanted to die. I asked the people at my table to just start torturing me. I wanted waterboarding, but they wouldn't oblige, so I nearly used my jacket to tie myself to my chair and pour Aqua Fina down my own nose. I just wanted to escape.
They sang HAEWAFY while the side screens told the stories of foster children who had benefitted from the school's Guardian Scholars program. Actually, the song sounded good with a choir.
Finally Marc said he would stop torturing us and he introduced Stevie with vigor and excitement as if she was coming out right that second, but I knew she couldn't because her crew was still setting up her stage. So, after everyone applauded thinking Stevie was going to emerge any second, we got the entire Bootylicous instead, then 2 more looooong songs before Stand Back actually broke out.
I looked for Stevie to enter center stage, but she came out from the side.
After the first song she said that everything was written for her on teleprompters, but she wasn't going to read what was written. She was just going to speak from her heart: Welcome to Cal's 50th anniversary and she said that she was so touched by the tribute to her that she wanted to cry. Well, I wanted to cry too Stevie. I did cry.
For IAF she said someone told her "if anyone falls in love, it should be us" and she thought it was a great line with which she totally agreeed.
For Crash she said that she needed to explain why it was in the setlist. When she prepared for Soundstage she asked lots of people to appewar with her [I wish she'd tell us exactly who she asked], only to find out that no one could come. That hurt her feelings, but they all had good reasons for not being there. Anyway, although no one showed up, she had still practiced all of these songs [I wish she'd tell us exactly which ones] and she just fell in love with this one by Dave Matthews. She said it's a song told from a boy's point of view, but she was going to sing it from a woman's point of view.
This was the first time I'd seen Crash live and I enjoyed it. I thought that Stevie was a little stiff movement wise, but vocally she was great. Midway through Lori started singing the verses with her and I appreciated that harmony.
For Dreams she said it was the 12th song on Rumours. Written after they'd been recording for 3 months. She said Fleetwood Mac threw her out of the studio because they had "real" music stuff to work on and they wanted her to get lost So, this guy said, "I have a key" and so she said she would follow him wherever he was going. He took her into this room that happened to be Sly's. She said in the over three months that they'd been recording there, no one had ever seen this room before. No one had known about it. At this point, the story sounds salacious to me. This guy took her into a room with a bed? I have a feeling that he didn't take her there to write. But she said she had her piano with her, so . . . Anyway, she says that's how Dreams came about. "Thank you Sly Stone." I feel she should thank Fleetwood Mac for throwing her out in the first place.
She does a little hula dance at one point during Dreams and that's when I first began to fear that there would be no HSML and I'd seen my last hula shake of the night.
For IDWTK she says it was written by her favorite rock star who is playing the Superbowl tomorrow which she thinks is really big. She tells us all to pray for him.
For the band introductions she says that Jimmy is their "golden angel". She says that Lenny is a master percussionist, which is a step down from Taku being her favorite percussionist. She says Carlos is full of grace and one of the loves of her life. She said Lori was her partner crime and that Jana has now been introduced into their world of "criminology." She says she's known Waddy since 1972 ever since she and Lindsey were living with their producer. Waddy is someone she's known as long as her parents (?). There are just few people that you've known that long in your life. And he's been her musical influence and inspiration for as long as she can remember.
For Landslide, she said she didn't really write it about her father, but he thought it was about him and she just said, "Daddy if you want it to be about you, then it is." So, the song was for all the fathers and her father too.
Edge of Seventeen was absolutely on fire. At first, Cal State had its dancers on the sidelines and let them come to the stage for the Edge walk. Watching them do their fake dancing was more than I could stand, but they soon let the authentic fans up to the stage. After the walk, Stevie made contact with all of her band members, from Lori to Al. She kind of ruffled Waddy's hair as she passed him.
As the Cal State performers gathered on stage with Stevie, she again said she was going to talk from her heart instead of reading from the teleprompter. She said it was so important that we were out there supporting the school and the students who need art and love and all the world has to give. And she reminded us to go out and vote.

Two nights in a row! What did I do right?
Nothing really to add to the reviews above. I did take in a camera despite what they said and I was able to take 30 up close photos during "Edge". Like Wildheart and Liam, I made my move early and we all, as it turned out, stood quite near each other. Got a 2 minute video of Rock 'n Roll as well. When Stevie does her little rock-dance during Waddy's solo she was right in front of me and I got it all on video. There is a God. Security told us not to take cameras in but I decided to risk it and I was glad I did. WooHoo!:]
Like Liam, I too got one of Waddy's guitar pics (sp?) from the roadie. Did you check what Waddy has written on the back yet? What a character? Stay 200 feet away! :]Also, got to talk briefly with Marc Cherry (Golden Girls/Desperate Housewives) and had him sign my program. Beautiful picture of Stevie on the 8 1/2 x 11 cover. I picked up an extra on my way out as most of the dinner guests left theirs at the table or threw them on the floor.
BTW, my loge seat was right next to the stage, 1st row inside aisle right across from people who paid $12,000 a table for the same experience. And, also more importantly right beside an entrance to the floor. So despite what another jealous poster thought, my seat was primo for the price. I took a gamble since we ordered blindly but my strategy paid off.
Well, Rush tickets are going on sale so gotta go!

I thought the inclusion of Crash was a crazy suprise for Soundstage, but had no idea it would become one of her freaking staples. And with Stevie when she gets a staple it''s the kind of staple that you can't get out of the paper, even with a staple remover.
But seriously, she played 11 songs, 3 of them covers. Stevie, pick 1 or 2 a show and maybe rotate or something. That's 27 percent cover songs.

No, only their last performance was dedicated to Stevie. I did like their rendition of HAEWAFY, it was awesome hearing it sung by a professional choir.

My date brought her camera, but we stupidly left it behind during the Edge Walk. Probably my fault for making her get up and rush down to the stage.
Yeah I did! I wasn't sure if it was a joke or what, but I have it taped to my wall with the setlist now. I only kept one program because, ****, how many times do I have to see that picture?

Yes, they had a tribute to Marc Cherry too, which was amusing, using characters from his shows The Golden Girls and Desperate Housewives to salute him.
Stevie's tribute was more serious (which made it more hokey at times). They also showed a few bursts of her old concert clips performing, while playing In My Life.
It was the whole thing of talking about Robin dying of leukemia while they sang, "and I think to myself, it's a wonderful world," that made me sure I might have to hang myself, even though the arena rafters were quite far away and I'm not sure of how it could have been accomplished.

Stevie Nicks is magical, gorgeous, simply mesmerizing – it's unbelievable she will celebrate her 60th birthday this year. At an age when most of her peers have retired, it's as if she's just getting started.
Nicks still looks amazing – nearly flawless porcelain skin, a fierce mane of long blonde hair and a body that still fits into those corset dresses quite nicely. Her deep, sensual voice didn't crack once Saturday night at Honda Center in Anaheim, as she belted out lyrics with ease to close Cal State Fullerton's annual "Front & Center" gala fund-raiser. She worked the crowd over with her eyes, tossing seductive glances at video cameras as she pranced around the stage, slipping into her signature twirls, slapping her tambourine and innocently playing with her flowing skirts and scarves.
Granted, ardent fans had to first endure the usual "Front & Center" salutations.
Now in its 13th year, the program has hosted a variety of talent, including sets from Chicago, Gladys Knight, Tony Bennett and Natalie Cole, interviews with Walter Cronkite and Whoopi Goldberg, speeches from Colin Powell and the late Christopher Reeve, and comedy from Bill Cosby. Before each headliner, however, there are musical skits staged by Cal State Fullerton's performing-arts students, often overly lengthy explanations about the university (now celebrating its 50th anniversary) and chatter from the event's alumnus MC, this time "Desperate Housewives" producer and creator Marc Cherry.
Curiously, once the crowd in the packed arena was patiently awaiting the Hall of Famer's entrance, the house lights would lower, then brighten again, while background music (at times blasting "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child and "That's the Way Love Goes" by Janet Jackson) would die down over and over again, each time giving false hope that Nicks would appear. Eventually the waiting paid off, of course, as Nicks materialized through a hazy fog on stage, smiling wide-eyed as she stormed into a rocked-out version of "Stand Back."
She smoothly transitioned between songs – including a playful take on Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" and a kickin' version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "I Need to Know" – while occasionally pausing for storyteller moments to give background about key tracks. Before slowing things down with "Landslide," for instance, she admitted to the crowd that the song was not about her father, but he thought it was, so she let him believe it. She dedicated the song to all of the fathers in the audience – and the crowd responded by whipping out cell phones and lighters to slowly wave in the air as she sweetly sang the lyrics, bringing some to tears.
Every three or four songs, Nicks would disappear for a few minutes for a wardrobe change, switching up from black velvet to black leather to black lace, all with assorted colored scarves. Each time she left the stage, it allowed her band time to shine – via beautiful piano transitions, orgasmic percussion battles and, as an intro to the bewitching "Gold Dust Woman," a searing guitar solo.
For her part, Nicks exuded elegance and maturity as she confidently fired through "Dreams," "If Anyone Falls in Love" and "Edge of Seventeen," despite the fact that several fans could be heard screaming out the wrong lyrics to that last one – "just like the way we love" instead of "just like the white-winged dove." But this was mostly a die-hard crowd, dozens of female admirers clad in true Stevie garb – crushed-velvet outfits, cinched corsets, flowing gypsy skirts and black gloves in leather, satin or lace.
Nicks never disappointed, and ended the evening with a bang - a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" after a final wardrobe change into a flowing white-and-black top and a chunky top hat with a giant feather sticking out of it. The song brought the crowd to its feet once more, as hordes of people rushed the stage to dance and hopefully touch Nicks as she graciously reached out and shook at least 50 hands eagerly extended in her direction.

The camera angle is interesting. When I saw Fleetwood Mac there in 2003 and Stevie in 2005 they were wanding, patting down ETC.

Stevie Nicks rocks Cal State Fullerton fund-raiser
Still striking as she approaches 60, this year's 'Front & Center' headliner served up a lively performance for the annual event.

I like it when they say nice things.
And she looks amazing in the pics - much better than she did even a couple of years ago.

Stevie came right down to us and shook our hands (MY FIRST TIME) and thank god she wasn't wearing gloves :)
Good. I understand the need to avoid all the germs, but I really hate those things.

She had on the gloves for GDW, so I was surprised when they were off for the Edge Walk. What makes it worse is that they look to be bulky leather gloves.
Often for the Edge Walk she stuffs her hair down her coat, but she didn't do that this time either. Her hair was down and I did see a few people touching it. Michele

Glad to hear everyone had a good time. Kind of sucks the set was so short, but I guess that's to be expected for this type of show. Great pics, thanks to those that posted!

Edge was amazing, I don't know if you can tell by the video, but all the school's drama kids and honored graduates started off at the side of the stage, and worked their way right in front of Stevie's mic and were all dancing and throwing their arms up, really into it. If they were REALLY into it, we'll never know, but Stevie sure thought they were.

The school professionally filmed the entire evening (including Stevie's set). I'm sure they cannot get permission to release any of her footage officially, but since it exists I wonder if it might turn up unofficially someday.

I just watched all the youtube vids. I wasn't thrilled with her voice. :sorry: She seems a bit off to my ears, but that's JMO. Can't put my finger on it. I did hear some vibrato on IAF, so that was a nice surprise. But not her best performance for me. Looks like she was having a really good time, though, and she looks really good.

I agree with you, a little. I disagree with the word choice of 'suffering', but one does hear a bit of discomfort in Edge, and R&R. If she was suffering, she certainly put on the brave face...the show must go on!

Of course - she could speak the whole song instead of singing it.
She did it a lot in the RAL tour
If we could ever see her crouch down to the floor and start screaming the verses before the wail - I'd die (a little).
And I could go further by telling Stevie that she needs to just get over it and wear the white shawl that she used to wear in the 80's during the song. It's not gonna kill her. She could wear black underneath for all I care. Just whip the damn white shawl out! And the white boots!

I think the downside of doing these one-off shows is that she does not have the time/opportunity to properly train/strengthen her voice, so her vocal stamina is not what it could be. Accordingly, she is singing like a bird for If Anyone Falls, but then practically speaks by the time Edge of Seventeen rolls around. Still, it was cool to see a little of that HBO concert-era bopping, even without the feathered hair flapping.
Hopefully Joe Thomas will have those vocal chords whipped into shape by the time she hits Reading.

You'll get your chance! I sat there for the first five minutes of Edge watching the other side of the stadium, seeing if they were letting people from the terrace seats down to the floor, and the second I saw that they were, me and my date got up and ran down to the empty side of the stage.

I had no idea they were going to let EVERYONE down for the edge walk, I was in section 208 and after they let the performers up front, it was like they opened up the flood gates and everyone just started running to the stage - everyone who knew what was up I should say - the 70 year olds stayed in their seat and I had to crawl over them to get to the opening to the floor.
