I don't like castles much...........but I do like some Palaces. Here's my favourite a few miles from where I was born - Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

Your kids are gorgeous Pip!

I don't like castles as much as I like trees but have you ever been to Leeds Castle? It's definitely worth a visit and afterwards, since you're in the area, you can go visit Christine McVie!

It's because, Mr Matthews, there's a village called Leeds in Kent! :D
The castle is pretty nearby

Edit: haha, Leeds Village has a website can you believe? http://www.leedskent.org.uk/

If they had a football team I believe he would! But according to that website they only have a cricket and a table tennis club.

I don't think the table tennis club looks all that great though, but maybe that's just me:

I like castles and cathedrals.
I think my favorite of the castles I've visited is Chambord.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Chambord

It seems from photos that Germany has some of the prettiest castles, though I've never been.

You cannot have a thread about one of my favorite things without THIS castle!! Neuschwanstein Castle.

BTW, did you see Captain Jack Harkness or anyone else from Torchwood? Heh.

That first castle pic is AWESOME.

Many years ago, (almost 40!) I was a foreign exchange student to a little village in northern Bavaria called Tambach.

We lived in servant quarters next to this castle...

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x7/ewgubbels/schloss.jpg

Then I rode a bus to the larger city called Coburg to go to high school. I saw this Castle "die Veste" every day...

Wow... that's gorgeous!

I should add that the older the castle, the more I love it. I prefer non-ornate, non-fantasy, non-disney looking castles. This castle in Portugal is called Almourol Castle, in the middle of the Tagus River. It dates back to Roman times and ooh how those walls can talk. Ahhhh...thick and rich in history.

PS
Your kids are über cute.

My favorite castle is the Heidelberg Castle. Heidelberg is one of my favorite places in the world.

This isn't the castle but a cute video that was taken in Heidelberg, I believe on the Hauptstrasse.

Some pics of the castle that are not mine but clearer than any of my older pictures that I do have.

Hey CelticGypsy...

I loved Heidelberg too. I went to a festival where they lit the castle in red at night...it looked like it was on fire.

It was to commemorate something...but I can't remember why. (I was too busy watching the police fish drunken American soldiers out of the river...) It was a wild night.
