Wow-

I thought I'd wait it out to get better seats, and they haven't showed. I believe this is a newer casino, and I guess they hadn't been holding out seats like most casinos do. I'm planning to call them though, just in case they have some tickets left from comps that won't be used.

Have fun! I hope I can join you guys!

Stevie Nicks and her music coming to valley

Desert Post Weekly

"When I started out, some writers called me a sex symbol," said Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks in 2001 USA Today interview.

"I always pointed out that I was a songwriter. If you want to stay in this business, you better write your own songs, because any career built on being cute is doomed. Nobody stays cute forever."

Hear that Britney?

When it comes to her looks, however, some might argue with Nicks on that last point.

Girlishly petite (she's just over 5-feet tall, although she wears 6-inch platforms on stage), a group of early 20-something young men were overheard recently talking about soon-to-be 60-year old.

"I don't care how old she is, she's hot," was the general consensus.

Nicks is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. On stage she's created a persona that's a mix of wood nymph and sultry songstress.

But it's definitely Nicks' music that people are coming to hear when she takes the stage at Friday night at Fantasy Springs in Indio.

Her career spans five decades, including her first band, Fritz, with high school sweetheart Lindsey Buckingham, to her years with Fleetwood Mac, and finally to a successful solo career.

Many of her songs with the Mac fall along the lines of the ethereal persona - think of hits like "Rhiannon," a song about a Welsh witch.

"Landslide," on the other hand, chronicles the disintegration of her relationship with Buckingham.

But that's just one side of Stevie Nicks.

Her solo career turns that image around. Songs like "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," recorded with Tom Petty, and "Leather and Lace," recorded with former lover Don Henley, show Nicks to be a rocker with edge.

According to her Web site, NickFix.com, the set list for Friday's concert will probably be similar to her appearance last November at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, featuring tunes from her 2007 retrospective, "Crystal Visions: The Very Best of Stevie Nicks."

The disc is great blend of Nicks' most popular works, including "Stand Back," "Enchanted," "If Anyone Falls in Love," Crash," "Rhiannon," a dance club version of "Dreams," "Gold Dust Woman," "Sorcerer," a cover of Tom Petty's "I Need to Know," "Landslide," "Fall from Grace," "Edge of Seventeen" and Led Zepplin's "Rock and Roll."

The approximately 80-minute set is about 60 percent solo and 40 percent Fleetwood Mac hits.

But the truth is, it's all Stevie.

And after more than 30 years on the rock pile, Nicks is still a performer with a voice.

Cool article!

I called about comp seats yesterday, and the person I talked to welcomed me to come down 1/2 hour before the show in case there's any no-shows for spoken-for tickets. But she also told me those comp seats were spoken for over a month ago, and there was a LOT of interest for this show, show she didn't sound exactly positive. :distress: So, we are gonna have to skip it. I'd hate to drive the 3 hours down there only to be told "sorry-there's no tickets available."

I'm hoping Stevie will do more shows over the spring or summer, or maybe even do a couple shows with Petty! (His shows go on-sale the day after the Superbowl, FYI)

HAVE FUN YOU GUYS!!! PLEASE post a detailed review!

I know, right? I liked the article....right up to that point. Oh, and the idea that L&L shows she has a "rock edge."

Yay for those who are going! And please post details when you get back! :wavey:

how was the show?

The show was the best. :] I've seen Stevie 4 times this past year, starting in May at the Greek in L.A. I can safely say that she never sounded better, looked better, or seemed more happy. What a show!

Security was tight. A lot tighter than when I saw Don Henley there last year around this same time. They actually had guards sitting in the aisles (One right beside me ) and in front of the stage to the right and left of the primo middle tribal section. That section was totally off limits. For future reference, the tribe gets the front 7 or 8 rows in the middle section (B). I was lucky enough to get an aisle seat in the 4th row of section A right in front of Waddy so I was quite happy. I didn't get to shake Stevie's hand but very few people did. I did get quite close to the stage a couple times though and got some decent pictures.

I'm not one for memorizing or writing down set lists so I'll leave that job to someone else. I know that Gina, from the Ledge, asked for the set list before the show from one of the stage crew/soundman (forget who he was); now whether or not she got it we will see. I'm sure she'll post.

Anyway, the big news (at least for me because the last time that I saw her was at Jack's 2nd show in Aug. 2007) was the addition of "Sara" to the set. She said she was "quilted" into doing it by the producer or director or whatever from Soundstage. The song was great and Waddy played an updated, 2008, guitar backing that gave new life to the song. Not that it needed it, but it did made the song interesting as only Waddy can.

Scott Plunkett was back on keyboards-missed Brett though! The girls changed up their outfits a bit. Sharon had her trademark tight black leather dress on but added leggings and Lori had some velvet pants ensemble on. Everyone but everyone on stage looked and sounded great.

Got some pictures too as I mentioned earlier. Now, if I could ever figure out how to up-load them to this site things would be great but I am too tired and too swamped with week-end chores to try now. Anyway, it's onward and upward. Honda Center tonight. Will let everyone know how that went too. As someone pointed out earlier, I believe the set will be shorter there. Curious to see if she keep "Sara." Hoping she does. By the way "Crash" wasn't as bad as some posters painted it out to be.

As an aside, I was lucky enough to sit beside two members of a Stevie Nicks tribute band. They drove 4 hrs from Ventura County to see her. Now that is dedication. Props to you girls. We had a blast trying to protect our portion of the floor while snapping photos and trying desperately for the stage despite the "guards." Sad to report one determined fan to our left, got thrown out because she kept trying to get to the stage. As I said, security brought their A game last night. Not like Soboba (Who could forget that show!) thank God-right Gina.:p

Chow for Now! :]

Michelle,

They were staring because the dress was drop dead gorgeous.:blob2: Too bad you couldn't make the Honda Center show. I did get to the stage there and I never thought I would. I actually thought I'd have a better chance at Fantasy Springs. ;) Life is funny isn't it? Will definitely check out your web-site. Rock on Lily!
