This might be something only Jeremy can answer (so thought I'd post it here in case he pops in) but anyone that can help on this would be great. :)

I'm working on building up the content to the JS & The Children album page in the Penguin Discog & I noticed a "D. Senek" as a writer along with Jeremy on the songs "Joan Of Arc", "Someone Told Me", "Beauty For Ashes" & "War Horse" and I was trying to get Senek's first name for completeness (rather than just entering them in the database with just "D" for the first name) and when I checked these songs at the BMI site, these songs there are just listed as being written only by Jeremy so I couldn't figure it out that way (or by Google searches etc.). So, does anyone know Senek's first name? (and Jeremy, it's completely understandable if you'd prefer not to divulge their name here, as I know it's not your favorite recording and many involved with that project seemed to just use first (probably pseudonym) names (like the musicians etc.) and I realize that you may not even know some of the real names of those people anyways, so we can keep it as is, just thought I'd ask is all. :)

Anyways, any help on this would be great, thanks in advance for any replies that might appear here related to this. :)

john - i think d. senek's first name is david, an american member of the cod who joined in the early 1970's.

zero

ps - jeremy's feelings to the contrary, and as we have discussed previously on the ledge, 'j.s. and the children' really is a wonderful record, as good in its own way as peter's 'in the skies'.

Great! Thanks zero, good to know Jeremy feels OK about this too, haven't had the chance to dig through some old posts here in a while to read the JS&TC discussions but maybe I will, should be some good reading, I've always loved the record as well! :)

Hmm, do you think/know if David Senek is the real name of one of the musicians listed on the album (Phil Ham, etc.)?

Well, we know that David Michael Senek is a real person. I don't know if he's the person on the album, but I don't think that they would pick a pseudonym that is so close to the name of a real life person.

Definitely David for the first name, and a few years ago I noticed a David Senek listed as co-composer of the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest  Not that I was watching closely, you understand :o It's quite an unusual name, so maybe it's the same guy. It should be easy to confirm on one of the Eurovision sites somewhere.

Btw, I love "JS & the C" as well.. fantastic :)

Well, what I meant was that maybe they had to list D. Senek (i.e. the real name) under the songwriting credits for legal reasons but that perhaps one of the musician credits on the album (just listed as vague first names: Michael, Moriah (well, obviously not this one! :) ), Boaz, Ginnethon) might have been Senek under the name he prefered with the COG or whatever? Just a thought, maybe we'll find out someday, but thanks for the middle name too, I'll add that as well if there's enough space in the field (oh & thanks also Michele for the ASCAP & BMI site links, it's been great for getting more complete names!). :)

Yes, John, Senek's first name is David. And he is currently living in Denmark, which would account for the credit on that Eurovision song. An excellent and inspired songwriter.
Boaz' real name is Paul Sarran from LA
Ginnethon's is Skip Whalen from New York
Phil Ham is Gregory Morton from Dallas
Moriah? I don't remember. It's been thirty years since we had contact! And in fact about the same with the others.
David (he's from Ohio) and I did cowrite those four songs mentioned above. I have never received any royalties for those songs or any others on this album so I don't know about the mix up with BMI. It seems as usual these companies continue on in their own sweet way until someone has the time and money to holler, and I have to be judicious with both these days!
Hope this is helpful.
Sincerely, Jeremy.

Sorry Jeremy, two more (if you can remember) I overlooked, if you would be so kind:

1. "Michael" - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica

2. Also, The liner notes also state: "Engineered by Nick at Aengus Studios", then there is a reference to John Nagy as being an Engineer on the record.

Was Nick a nickname for Nagy or were there 2 engineers? If 2, do you recall the last name of Nick?

Thanks very much once again, this really is invaluable to us and that should be it this time! :)

hi again john,

'michael' might actually be david senek. he was known as 'micheal' in the children of god. i guess that is why michele refered to him as david michael senek in her post. i believe his given middle name is paul.

ahh yes, it was the '70's.

some more background: as jeremy said, david was from ohio (newton falls) and at the time of 'js and the children' he was almost as famous, or infamous, a children of god member as jeremy. david was married for a few years to the daughter of a very rich and powerful oil executive. the establishment was not pleased in the least.

david senek does now live in denmark. there is a web site that includes a brief bio and a picture: http://www.statelinemusic.com/
link to 'collaborations' at left and scroll down a page or so.

Great stuff zero, thanks! Hopefully Jeremy can confirm this as it does sound like it makes sense if it's him.

yes, all true. Btw I just remembered that Moriah's name was Cheryl Kugler -- from Indiana I think. She was temporarily married to Greg Morton (Phil Ham).
As far as the name of the producer/engineer, I forget.
Michael on vocals and playing rhythm guitar and harmonica is David Senek (Paul Michael as his name was in COG).
That should do it? Any other questions I'll try to answer!
