...that flowy fabric luvvin' singing sensation Stevie Nicks has quietly put her palatial Pacific Palisades mansion on the market for around $14,000,000.

Miz Nicks purchased the 7,178 square foot Southern Colonial style house in June of 2005. Property records do not reveal the purchase price, however, Riley Realtor, one of Your Mama's obscenely well connected sources, tell us that Miz Nicks paid $9,000,000 for the gated and secured 1.2 acre property and then proceeded to remodel the library making it a double height space.

The party line, according to the Arizona Republic, is that Miz Nicks is selling because she wants to downsize and is moving to a "rock and roll penthouse" in Santa Monica where the still touring singer/songwriter can work without worrying "if the pool is taken care of and [if] the grass is right." And you know what, we believe she wants t0 simplify. But Riley Realtor says that's not the whole story.

The rumor is that shortly after husky voiced Miz Nicks moved in to the property that has sweeping canyon and ocean views, she began to think the 5 bedroom and 6.5 bathroom residence (with guest house) is haunted. Yes, puppies haunted. And apparently Miz Nicks is not down with living with the ghosts of Christmas past because Riley Realtor tells Your Mama that Miz Nicks has already packed her brocade bags and fled the scene and the only folks living up in there with the chain rattling apparitions is Miz Nicks' household staff.

Although Your Mama can't confirm, it's entirely plausible that Miz Nicks may have decamped to a swanky condominium building on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica that practically hangs over the Pacific Coast Highway where property records indicate she has owned a 3,029 square foot unit overlooking the Pacific Ocean since March of 2004.

Gossip and rumor, kids.

Anyhoo, what is not gossip is that the big Pacific Palisades house is not the only piece of luxury real estate that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has been looking to unload. Back in early August we learned from Mister Big Time (via the Arizona Republic) that the former Fleetwood Mac-er put her long time Paradise Valley, Arizona property on the market for $3,800,000. Records do not yet reflect a sale of this property, but Your mama was unable to find it on the Paradise Valley MLS so we simply don't know the status of this property. Simmer down children, we do not want to hear your outcries of celebrity real estate information deprivation. Your Mama is not a miracle worker and we simply can't get all the poop all the time.

Wherever Miz Nicks may be Your Mama wishes her a happy home surrounded by mountains of velvet and beaded cushions and miles and miles of draped fabric trailing the floors and blowing in the breeze.

Paradise Valley home was sold:
http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2007/12/update-stevie-nicks.html

Following up on our earlier discussion about Miz Stevie Nicks, Your Mama just received word from a gentleman we'll call The Cactus Pusher who informed us that the tambourine shaking singer's Paradise Valley house has been sold for $3,000,000

The Cactus Pusher was kind enough to send along paper work that clearly shows the property was originally priced at $3,800,000, later reduced to $3,300,000 and that the sale closed on December 12, just two days ago. Lawhd children, the money has probably not even hit Miz Nicks' bank account yet.

That looks like the house in the Stand Back Scarlett video. The whole ghost story confirms the fact for me that I think shes just plain....lonely. :(

Anyway, I did not picture Mama Nicks house to look like that at all. It looks very dark.

Just confirms for me that she's just plain brilliant at marketing both her image and her real estate.

The house itself is white - - - so maybe that spruces it up a bit. Naturally much expensive real estate in California is about presenting a visual image - maybe whoever designed things "balanced" the visual image of the house against flowers in the gardens, the trees etc. in order to create a certain "atmosphere" or "mood." Also, I bet you that the ads said something like "lovely shaded yard" rather than dark. Really though, it IS seriously hot in California sometimes in the summer, and maybe "dark" means "cool" there, sometimes.
To be honest the main thing that struck me about it is how SMALL it seems compared to what I might have imagined. But then, that neighborhood is obviously VERY expensive, especially being so close to the ocean, so anything bigger is probably gonna start costing some serious, major buckage.

I like the "Southern" flair of it - seems to me to reflect part of her personality. You can almost picture a Debutante's Ball, with Stevie as the host.

And I have pumpkin pie.

I have a sneaky feeling she's not lonely though.

Super job of Sleuthing, right here on The Ledge. I'm impressed-
Only thing; if by any chance the 'haunting' angle (not angel) is fabricated, only the author would know-- it could cost Nicksy millions...It's generally hard enough to sell a zillion dollar property (in this case, $9 million inflated to $14 mil) but a rumour of it being haunted could bring the price way, way down...
How do i know?
Well, another diva i once was quite fond of, (no longer so), actually went onto a tv talk show years ago- The Oscar-winner whose name is a four letter word suffered the indignation of the National Enquirer printing an article that her kingdom that SHE put up for sale was haunted. For close to two years, her multi-million dollar palace just would NOT sell and she said the realtor was asked by every potential client and just some nosey types if the house was "really haunted."
The exasperated star, whose primary concern has always been largesse directed at herself, finally did what a girl had to do and took to a national talk show to roll her eyes and say "NO, the house is NOT haunted" when the (dutiful) prompted tv host inquired if it was true she was trying to sell her dream house and that it was haunted. After she did her tv bit, the house sold, finally.
So, thank you for your very fun to read piece, and thank you again in advance, because i think we could very well see Nicksy herself on a national tv show assuring people she's not trying to unload a haunted manse.

It looks like the old Selznick Studios building in Culver City. It's that old Mount Vernon style of colonialism. which you can see in Beverly Hills, too. I don't picture Stevie in this. She's more castle, or as she once said "pyramid on a cliff." There is that one home on the cliff just off 17-Mile Drive outside Carmel that is so magnificent -- one of my favorite buildings in California (posted on the Ledge a few yrs ago) -- that looks like the proper abode for Stevie.

I know a lot of it may really just be her "stage persona," but I really do feel that she has a "southern belle" side to her personality, and this house reflects that. Think HBO Special - Gold n' Braid - - - - Angel and her pretending to be an "old-fashioned dance hall girl" - she said, "I love it. I love it!" - - - Think "Stand Back Video: Civil War version" as someone else mentioned.

On the other hand, I strongly suspect that this is actually the house that her Dad bought for her shortly before he died. Maybe she was actually speaking metaphorically when she said that there's ghosts there.

I know a lot of it may really just be her "stage persona," but I really do feel that she has a "southern belle" side to her personalityNot me, man. Stevie has always struck me as California through & through. Arcadia High through & through (well, not anymore, since the student body is quite a bit more varied than it was in 1960 - 1980).

I don't know why these ghosts bothered her. The ghosts at the recording studio in 1981 scared the peppermint oil out of her, but she wanted to spend more time with them afterward. Of course, in the interim she probably saw "The Sixth Sense."

Would Stevie even mind a house being haunted? Seems to me she might be cool with that.

I remember when she mentioned that Robin used to rock the baby's cradle after she died.

Since she thinks of herself as being sensitive to things like that, I would imagine she senses a bit of the paranormal wherever she hangs her hat.

Maybe this time it's just Lori and Sharon running around in sheets with eye-holes cut out of them, hoping a jolt to the heart might get Stevie's songwriting juices flowing again. These days more than a few Ledgies would resort to it, and probably Mick Fleetwood, too. ;)

I remember when Stevie lived up in Benedict Canyon about a 10 minute drive from my old place in Beverly Hills. My friend Hilary used to like to have a couple of tequilas and go up there to steal her mail. It was so weird. Whenever someone would visit me from out of town it was like, "take us by Stevie's..." haha instead of, "hey, show me around your place..."

That was in the 80's when she lived on the top of Angelo Drive. My friend, Paolo's girlfriend did make up or something for the Rooms on Fire video. He said that his girlfriend said Stevie had all her stuff in plastic bags against her bedroom wall.

You guys, THAT was the kind of house I picture Stevie living in. It was on a cliff...with big iron gates and the "guest house" was in front of the actual house. The "guest house" was about the size of a small town. It was all painted light blue and over the archway entrance to the house there was a placard sign that read something like "KASTEEL KAMPHUZEH" or something like that.

Driving up that canyon (especially at night) was a nightmare as it was so narrow and winding with a huge, huge drop on your left going up...and on your right going down.

Now THAT was impressive.

Jim

I'll have to dig out some pictures from the 80s to post sometime but, I'm sure you've all seen it.

I think maybe even more impressive is the concept of hard-core '80s-style Stevie Freaking Nicks doing 90 down that road at night in a red Porsche while coked up and yelling at her agent on the phone at the the same time.

I could be wrong, but I think maybe in earlier interviews when she talked about the ghosts of Robin, seeing ghosts in castles, etc., she was talking literally; whereas now when she's talking about her Dad's ghost she's talking more "metaphorically," or at least talking more about "sensing his spirit."
As opposed to what she now probably realizes were possibly just hallucinations she may have experienced "back in the day."

This does not look like the same house in the Australian interviews, where she wore that cool red rose dress.

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/2360/spanishqy8.th.jpg (http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=spanishqy8.jpg)No, that house was described as a "1927 two-story, Spanish-style abode". Here is the link (http://www.nicksfix.com/australian_womens_weekly_dec2005a.htm).

If Stevie bought the colonial house in June 2005, then it must be the one she talks about in that Australian interview, which was issued in December 2005. It says:

"Like a true gypsy, Stevie moves often (on tour she often changes rooms in the same hotel after a while) and is actually leaving this home for a new house two blocks away, where every room, she says, will be recreated as it is here.
"This house was a great bachelorette house, but there's a not enough privacy if I want to have a man here, or friends to stay, or my family. We would all be on top of each other. I have god-daughters and a niece I adore, and I want to have them with me." "

And it turns out the move wasn't what she thought it would be:
"Nicks has lived here for two years, and it was a mistake, she says, from day one. So she is moving to a penthouse apartment on the beach and the house is on the market.
'I saw it, and there was this big family living here that obviously loved it. So there was a vibe here. And something in me thought, maybe I can have that. I was not here three days before I thought, what the hell do I here? I was too shallow and stupid to realise that it wasn't the house I'd fallen in love with but the mom and the dad and the four kids, and the smells of the cooking.' " link (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2007/09/08/sm_stevienicks.xml&page=2)

It seems rather sad that she expected a bunch of friends and family to join her at the big new house. . . and no one showed up? And then she winds up in an apartment, which is surely smaller than the Spanish house. None of this makes any sense to me. What does Stevie want from life?

Also known as Kasteel Kamphuyzen, the 6,000-square-foot main house and 1,600-square-foot gatehouse are perched on the edge of a canyon in Beverly Hills. The castle was built in 1981 by Beverly Hills designer Mark Nixon and named for his business partner, Baron Herbert Hischemoeller van Kamphuyzen of the Netherlands. The structures, with stepped gables inspired by the 16th-century castles and townhouses of Holland, have been the scene of many civic, corporate and charitable galas. -- Cecilia Rasmussen

I disagree. The very wealthy, and that is who will buy this, generally are untouched by the current mortgage and rate related crisis. This house likely will sell for cash and likely some that cash in toto will come from a bonus check. Moreover, it seemingly is an anomaly in that it is on a huge site. I predict it will sell in a few months. Interestingly and as an aside, the NYC market is still raging, though the lesser properties may soon bust. I think this is so because NYC is a coop based market and that board review of a buyer's financials along with, on average the need for half down and a percentage (usually half) of the purchase price in cash/securities) adds an extra layer of protection. In other words, the sub prime loans do not apply to the majority of the NYC market. Now, if the stock market falls significantly, this house may sit. But, there is no sign of that happening to any significant degree. Of course, if I knew this for certain, I'd be a billionaire

As for her profit, after two years, each owner occupant gets the first $250,000 tax free and then must pay tax on the remaining profit. So, if she makes all $5 million (a big if) and she pays 6% of the $14,000,000 selling price to a broker, which is $840,000. So, $840,000 + $250,000 = $1,090,000. ($14 million - 1,090,000) - $9 million = $3,910,000. $3,910,000 * 75% (there is a 25% capital gains tax) = $2,932,500, which is what she will make less any California capital gains tax, other taxes, and closing costs.

On Edit - THANK YOU PAULA!!!!!!!!!!!! -- I hope I did that one correctly

I do not think she can do a 1031 exchange for this proptery, though she has a commercial studio in it.

But, I sure would take $3 million in two years while living in the palace that earned it

(I received the impression that her feeling was, "WOW i must be a big ROCK star or something now! " ) There also is a black and white photo of her standing next to a Mercedes, at her home. I just found the photo. This is one of my favorite photos of Stevie because it seems sort of "symbolic" of how she and Lindsey, after some struggling, finally became successful and got to be in "a big time rock-and-roll band."

[QUOTE=Ghost_Tracker;734804]She also has told a story about seeing the movie "Risky Business" on video tape at her home in Paradise Valley and calling up to have a red Porsche 944 delivered the very next morning, and they DID it!QUOTE]

Here's how it went down, according to the Courtney Love/Stevie interview from 'Spin' magazine some years back:

CL: I had a Learjet phase for a little bit, but I couldn’t really afford it. While we’re on the subject, tell me about your rose Porsche.

SN: Me and a bunch of my friends were in my house in Phoenix, we were up all night doing lots of cocaine and watching that movie Risky Business. That’s one of my favorites. And I just made a call and that Porsche was delivered.

CL: You said "I want a rose Porsche"?

SN: I said, I want the same Porsche that’s in Risky Business.

CL: There’s a Porsche in Risky Business?

SN: Yes, there is. And I bought it. That morning.

seeing as she has never driven and there were no cell phones in the 1980s that really takes some imagining.

There were cell phones int eh 80s, I had the Motorola Brick in the mid-80s and Stevie has never said she doesn't drive, she said she doesnt have a license. I'd see her in a Jag and not a Porsche anyway!!!

So you're saying she drove around back in the day with no license and amouts of coke and booze in her system that would make Ms. Hilton and Lohan and Mel Gibson look like Sunday school teachers and never once got busted?? allllrighty,

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/2360/spanishqy8.th.jpg (http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=spanishqy8.jpg)No, that house was described as a "1927 two-story, Spanish-style abode".

I wonder if this was the house that she lived in when she wrote 'Rock a Little'? The one where she described the loud crashing of the waves that literally rocked the house? Is this the house where the garage caught fire ('Fire Burning')? Is this the house that's near Steven Speilberg's?

I thought the place she wrote "Rock a Little" in was a 2 bedroom condo in Marina del Rey. I don't know...I thought so.

I also thought that when she was writing about the "Fire Burning" house it was when she lived on Doheny Dr in the late 70s.

I'm probably wrong though.

In the FM forum, under the Tusk tour there's an article posted from People magazine, 1979, where the Fantasyland house is mentioned. It says:

"Nicks' large Tudor home above Sunset Boulevard is now on the market because it attracted hangers-on who overstayed their welcome. "Any man I ever went out with called the place Fantasyland. I'm 31, I won't always be in a rock band, and I don't want to come out of this absolutely helpless." So she is moving into a modest beachfront condo."

Edit: I just reread this after I posted it, and it occurs to me that she is saying the same things now that she said in 1979! OT but she says stuff like she has no time for a man in her life, just the band and also about the goldfish and the ladybug cartoon - good Lord, that should be one awesome cartoon if it ever sees the light of day...30 years in the making...

This reminds me of this awful movie playing on Showtime a couple of weeks ago. I suppose I was too lazy to change the channel. Anyway, the only thing I noticed about the movie (in my peripheral vision) was that there was this subplot involving an interspecies love affair between a goldfish and a frog. After some research, lo and behold:

Though this house fits the description of the "Fantasyland" house to a tee, it's asking price of only 2.5 Million is it's biggest giveaway that it isn't the Fantasyland house. There's just no way a house of that size on Sunset (which would be the Bel Air/Beverly Hills area of LA) would be that cheap. You can barely even get a condo/townhouse in that area for that price :sorry: . Lindsey's pad went for like $21 MILLION just a year or two ago, and it was in Bel Air overlooking LA. Plus, the usage of the Sorcerer video dates this clip from sometime after 2001, and she apparently sold the Fantasyland house in like 1979. Encino would make more sense for this price point, but it still seems like a lot of house for the money in the LA area! There really isn't any way of knowing which house this was, and when she owned it, because the woman changes homes so often lol. Plus there are bound to be homes she owns/owned we never knew about. My guess though is this is a Street Angel era home though given it's time of broadcast.

The house in the video isn't the place she owned in the late 1970s. That place was in the Hollywood Hills, & the place in the video is described as a Bavarian villa "hidden in the hills outside of Los Angeles." That can mean anywhere from the San Fernando Valley to Woodland Hills to Santa Clarita to even the San Gabriel foothills. The Hollywood Hills (above Sunset Boulevard) would never be described as being outside Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Hills home is where Stevie & Jim Ladd from radio did her 1979 Innerview. I don't think she sold it until after Fleetwood Mac got off the road. She went straight into her Marina del Rey condo, which was completely accessible to the public. You could walk from the beach right up to her back window & look in.

There's another show w/ the Bavarian house, "Millionaires and Mansions," something like that. Like a rip-off of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." It was hosted by an actor who used to be on the Young & the Restless. I thought they said that house was off Franklin Ave., in the Hollywood Hills.

I believe George Clooney bought the house which Stevie had infamously referred to as "Fantasyland" back in 1979.

"The house is set at the top of a steep and winding road in Los Angeles. Since buying the property (from Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks), he has put up a large glass-fronted guest house, where the 'gang' play poker long into the night. "It's like the Playboy mansion without the sex,' he told an interviewer.

The home is very much a bachelor hang-out and there isn't a whiff of a feminine touch, even though French waitress Celine Balitran (a former lover) lived there for several years."

^ How do you know? ;)Oy, you wouldn't believe those scruffy, busybody fans back then, Paula, scrambling around after Stevie Nicks, photographing her, watching her every move. What creeps, lemme tell ya. They'd spend hours at the county assessor's office looking up the addresses of all her real estate holdings! But Stevie should have been smarter with the Marina del Rey condo. She knew before she bought it that it had a giant window, floor to ceiling, on the BEACH side! And the beach was easily accessible! Just amazing that Stevie bought that property & moved in. But if she hadn't, we might never have had the song Rock a Little!

Before she lived in mansions . . .

This article talks about a house in San Jose that was, reportedly, right next door to Stevie's.

http://www.metroactive.com/metro/01.09.08/alleys-0802.html

Those of us who worshipped What's Happening will always cherish that episode where Rerun got busted for bootlegging the Doobie Brothers show and the message it taught all of us. Rerun was the lovable bulb-shaped dufus character and he couldn't get into the show, so a few thugs set him up with free tickets in trade for illegally taping the show. And the tape recorder fell out of his overcoat during the song, "Taking It to the Streets." That's right—back in the '70s you could actually go to jail for recording somebody's show. That entire episode is now, ironically, available on YouTube.

The 12th Street house sits right behind what's now the Naglee Park Garage, a small restaurant in the corner of the plaza at 11th and San Carlos, which includes a legendary downtown 7-Eleven and which functions as the western gateway to Naglee Park. Back in the early '70s, the Doobies lived, partied, rehearsed and did who knows what else in this house. Singer and guitarist Tom Johnston used to park his motorcycle on the porch of the place. Bikes were constantly out front. Skip Spence from Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape also held court. According to the Doobies' Pat Simmons, Stevie Nicks, later of Fleetwood Mac, lived next door.

The house was an institution in downtown San Jose during those years and it should be in all the books. And speaking of that, Johnston himself actually appears in the San Jose City Directories at this address for the years 1971–1973, so the info is right there in the public domain for everyone to see.
