I'm not around here a lot. I used to hang out on the Rumours list and we had a good time there. And I truly love Lindsey. My son, Jonathan, was involved in a car accident on 12/4. He was an unbelted back seat passenger involved in an MVA. He suffered a temporal facture and a left epidural hematoma extending to the basal fossa. He hit his head REALLY HARD! We spent three days in the ICU. I saw him intubated and only able to respnd by tears. He is having on and off head aches, but nothing that keeps him up or awakens him. He has dizziness on postural change. He is a good kid and plays lead guitar and sings lead in his band...LOL...If you pray, say a prayer for Jonathan.

Is he home? Did he suffer any memory loss or other brain damage? It sounds like it's a miracle he survived. Wow.

We are in a much better place than we were a week ago. Can you imagine seing your kind intubated...on a breathing tube... and the neurosurgeons are asking him questions...can you follow my finger...can you move your fingers? I'm just thinking I have to pay it forward. There's a food drive at the local grocery store tomorrow. He could be dead or paralyzed. I know that. A friend of my older boy's...kids driving to school and she ended up a quadliplegic. Kids and cars are not a good thing. He is okay, though. I swear I have gray hairs because of this. Thanks for all your good thoughts.

I definitely will. Having a family member who is having serious medical problems, I can definitely sympathize.
Do you know about the study they did on prayer? One group of patients was prayed for, the other was not.
NOBODY involved in the patient's care knew who was in what group - not the doctors or nurses, not the family members, not the patients themselves, no one. Not the people doing the study either. And yet the patients in the group that was prayed for tended to do better.
I really do feel that praying helps.

I'm not a spiritual person. I pray on my own when I need to. What was messed up when we first got to the hospital. We hadn't seen Jon and we knew it was bad. But Fred, the chaplin, immediatey came up to me in the ER, followed me up to the ICU... "can we pray"...and I kept thinking...what do you know that I don't know? He kept saying..."should we have a group prayer?" My older boy, Matt, who is 22 , said to me later..."...mom..you should have seen your face! I thought you were going to hit him!"
Prayer does help, even if it's just for family members. Fred, the chaplin, I know now it's his job, but don't crowd me....I said a lot of prayers by myself and I know you guys said some. There are get well cards coming from so many people. But that night, Fred the chaplin pushing the group prayer...not the right thing to do.

Speaking of my Mom, she's a religious person. She was best friends with a woman who lived across the street - the mom of one of my best friends. This person was VERY religious - maybe to the point of it being borderline schizophrenia. Not quite "Carrie's Mom" but she was gettin' there.
My Mom once got into a fairly bad accident right in our neighborhood - this was many years ago. The Doctors felt that somehow a nerve got compressed and it made her pass out - a random freak thing that could happen to anyone. Her foot was on the gas pedal when she was leaving the driveway - ended up going through a fire hydrant and then continuing until she was maybe 3 doors down and hitting a tree. Was wearing her seat belt, thank God - banged up a little but nothing serious. She woke up and saw a crowd gathered around her, and her close friend immediately said to her, first thing, "It's a SIGN from God!"
They talked occasionally after that. I think maybe my Mom even said as much as "How are YOU?" instead of the usual "Hello."
So yeah, believe me, I get what you're saying.

No, I cannot imagine. Just glad you got through it & hoping next week is better for all of you.
