hey David...i've put this petition on all my lists and it looks like i am getting a few ppl signing it...the problem is i know all the lists i'm on have well over a thousand members...hell prob 2000 from all over the world but i don't understand the complacency of stevie's fans...it's like well she didn't get nominated this year maybe she'll be nominated next year...so now that we've got this petition going and ppl have a chance to voice their angst against the ptb who do the nominating why are ppl still not signing...this isn't a guarantee that it'll go anywhere but it's a "try" to do something to get their attention...thanks for signing David...take care...pat

The reason why Stevie hasn't even been considered is because she already IS in the Hall as a Mac member. To be considered as a solo artist your solo career has to have been as big or bigger than the work you did with your group (i.e. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Eric Clapton etc). In terms of females, there is no way Stevie will get a solo entry before Pat Benatar or Ann and Nancy Wilson. All the petitions in the world won't change that.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just stating a fact. Huge Stevie fan, but they look at many things and one of them is consistent worldwide appeal and "Bella Donna" is her biggest success (and that was 26 years ago, and only in the U.S.). The Hall looks at whatever influence Stevie has had as stemming from her work with Fleetwood Mac and they are already there.

Hey Al,
This was the exact same thing my boyfriend said to me last night, but I signed it anyway. My thoughts are, even though the Mac with Stevie are already in there, I don't think it would hurt anything to give this a "try" and our best shot, and hopefully, maybe this just may end up in someone's hands, with the Hall, who may be able to do something about this, and change the rules, somehow. I'm with Pat, on the "let's give it a try" and see what happens deal..! I was the 4th one to sign this, and I'm SOOOO hoping that it goes somewhere! Sign away people!!
Hugs,
Arlene

i've been down the road with Al on this b4...i know how he feels he's a great stevie fan but like steviefan49 said what could it hurt to sign...even if i get the 1000 sigs needed and from the look of things i'll be lucky to get to 100 at least we know ppl care about this issue...as to not being know around the world as a solo artist have u seen the list of past inductees...are u telling me that grand master flash was known around the world...come on Al...it's basically the british commonwealth and the u.s. that make up the music industry and that's where stevie has had success...as to her getting in after heart...maybe...maybe not...at least we've tried to do something instead of sitting idley by and doing nothing...take care...pat

I just signed! Stevie deserves to be in based on her solo career which was huge in the 80's. She had the biggest selling album by a female the year of 1981, and Bella Donna stayed on the charts for almost a year, even as "Mirage" was preparing for release in the summer of 1982, "After the Glitter Fades" was in the top 40, and Bella Donna was still on the Album charts!!
She was the undisputed biggest Female Artist in America from 81-83!!!
And still charted respectable numbers in the later 80's w/ Rock A little and TOSOTM, which went Top 10 after 3 weeks of release! So she remained strong during the whole decade, alongside her Fleetwood Mac imput!
Even the Rolling Stone readers polls earned her the favorite female singer many years...esp. 81-84.
I dont think you can compare Stevie w/ Pat or Heart, it's just apples and oranges to me...they all deserve it, but there's no denying that Stevie to this day, has the strongest and most influencial career...She's the long distance winner!

Well, it wouldn't hurt anything, but I honestly don't think it helps anything either. Several years ago I signed one for Heart and that did nothing. I don't think the people at Hall give a rats ass what the fans think. KISS fans have been trying for years and gotten no where. What we the fans think doesn't matter to the Hall. Stevie just doesn't meet the criteria that the Hall looks at, and also as I've said, she's already in there, so there is no rush from the Hall to get her in there again. Speaking only for myself, whether she gets in there or not, does not change my opinion of her. If she never sold another record or never toured again, I would still be a huge Stevie fan. She doesn't need awards or recognition from the industry. It's nice, but she doesn't need the valadation. She's a legend already, some statue saying this doesn't change anything.

The R&RHoF is a BS organization. Just another publicity generating thing for Rolling Stone Magazine publisher Jann Wenner.
Have you SEEN the nominees this year? What a load of crap. Look who HASN'T been inducted...Genesis, Deep Purple, Moody Blues, Rush...all MORE than deserving IF they'd been Wenner's pet bands, but they never were a Rolling Stone favorite band, so they don't get considered come nomination time.
Plus, how can you even THINK of inducting Fleetwood Mac and not include Bob Welch?
Plus, what is "Rock & Roll"?? It's NOT Miles Davis, it's NOT the Beastie Boys, it's NOT Granmaster Flash, yet they've been inducted.
The only artists in this year's crew of nominees that fit the "Rock & Roll" label is John Mellencamp & The Ventures. Beyond that, the others aren't deserving.
Yes, that includes Madge.
It's the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME...not the POP HALL OF FAME!!

I definitely think it "could" help, if it fell into the proper hands! I'm a optimist and always look at the glass as being "half full"! If we all went in with the attitude of "it's going to get us no-where" - which to me is pretty poor, imo, and pretty negative, then that's what's going to happen! If we look at it, as several of us have already stated, at least we have a CHANCE, and are going to "try" to get her in! Too bad the other groups didn't work.. but that was "THEM" and not us! We HAVE to think positive, and keep a POSITIVE approach on this, and maybe we may have a chance of getting this to the proper parties to make it all happen!

hey Al...just sign the petition will ya...she deserves to be in it and that's all there is to it...ur logic is a little flawed btw regarding not putting single artists in there once they've already been inducted...the beatles...paul mccartney...yardbirds...eric clapton...simon and garfunkle...paul simon...there are some great examples that show they can get in alone...now as to the single act needing to outdo the band...there is no way that sir paul outsold the beatles...nuff said...please sign the petition...love pat

I signed the petition. However, what I said about solo artists from groups was that there have been many solo artists who came from groups including the ones you mentioned. All of the solo artists you mentioned, McCartney, Paul Simon, Clapton etc all continue to have HUGE solo careers. In all three cases their solo careers are on par with their group efforts.

i can honestly say in my circle of meeting people in life, when i mention stevie to them, 95% just love her~ all colors, ages, religions, people from different countries~ she is just that type of girl, whether you go for the airy fairy-ness as she has been called or for the fact that she is in my honest opinion one of the most awesome imaginative songwriters~ whether you like the fairytale, gypsy, sister of the moon aspect of stevie or the fact she has been around forever (bite my tongue) or the fact the hands down the babe can rock w/ the best of them~ she so flippin' deserves to get in as a solo act~ i personally love everything about her~ i can't imagine life w/ out her & her music, her stories of life that are entertwined in her songs, her beauty even as she ages, the chick is timeless elegance, also i love...just everything damnit!!!~

But the R&RHOF is not based on sales or chart positions. Inductions are based (well, they're supposed to be based)on the contribution the artist has made to rock music & the effect they've had on it. Of course I would love Stevie to be inducted, but realistically I don't know when it will happen. As popular as she was, she wasn't all that groundbreaking tbqh. Not that all artists in the R&RHOF were...

See, I consider Beastie Boys rock. I think they deserve it, I believe they really were groundbreaking. But you bring up a good point - where do we draw the line on what is "rock" music? I can see Miles Davis & other early blues artists being inducted because were the pioneers, so to speak. Without their influence, would there be rock music?
But more recent artists? I dunno. Madonna is not, nor has she ever been, rock. I don't think anyone would argue that. Has she changed music? Not really, IMO - she's changed the music BUSINESS. Rap artists have influenced music by making that type of music more mainstream & accessible to a wider audience, but that doesn't mean they're R&R artists. Maybe they should change the name to the Mainstream (or Popular) Music HoF. :D

I agree the RRHOF induction board is bs. Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner is the King of the board and we all have read Rolling Stone's less than stellular attitude towards her over the years. I think Stevie does deserve to be inducted as a solo artist. There are many contemporay artists who list Stevie as a major inspiration in thier lives.
I live in Cleveland and literally drive by the Rock Hall everyday on my way to work. The fact that the Rock Hall is here and they still have the induction ceremony in New York is a source of contention for many Clevelanders. They had the opening concert ceremony at the old Browns stadium and let me tell you it it was packed and it ROCKED.

Artistically, or in terms of sales?
Stevie's solo albums have not sold as well as FM's but that's a ridiculous standard to hold anyone to. FM has sold so many albums since 1975! The fact is, her solo career has been distinctive artisitcally and commericially. I will never enjoy solo Stevie as much as I do FM Stevie, but I still think she's done far more amazing things as a solo artist than most musicians who separate from their respective bands. Of course I signed the petition :-)

I will never enjoy solo Stevie as much as I do FM Stevie ...Partly because her sound has always had the stale whiff of session-stench.

She had two good albums, one okay album, and the rest have, um, fallen short of the glory of the Salamander. What's worse is that she has had almost as many compilations as actual solo albums.
Sorry, I just don't see it happening.
